I grew in hydro for my first few years of growing before eventually having a go at organic. I can relate to what the guys are saying above about yield, growth rate and flavour. I've experienced the same, there is a difference, not huge, but there is. I've compared with clones. There a many variables to consider though so I'd be cautious to say that one is better than the other with 100% certainty. The flavour issue with hydro could be down to something missing in the hydro nute lines that would maybe address that lack of flavour. Or perhaps there's something we're not nailing with hydro. Cannabis is such a complex plant with so many different compounds and terpenes.... It's either that or its that same effect that you get with fruit and veggies where the larger the fruit is the more its flavour seems to dissipate.5 points

Thanks @Pat999 you've saved me a lot of typing bru POTM is still going to rest for a few more months. @CreX and others I appreciate the enthusiasm and support but hopefully you understand. On the other hand I can always start a POTM with no prizes. Let me know if you guys would be keen for that? You'll get the badge at least If you have any foresight and would like to see prizes return for POTM then it would be a good idea to support the competition and post your entries. It would also really help to set your ego aside and vote for those members who have entered once the poll gets going. We will still be running Snapshot Of The Month. That'll be starting soon soon. Just finalising prizes.4 points

My reason for going organic is it ends up being cheaper in the long run. No expensive nutrients. It also feels more natural. I'm not force feeding the plants. They just do their thing like nature intended it to grow. Sent from my VTR-L09 using Tapatalk3 points

H Guys, it also depends on the selection of the plant when breed. Some strains are selected for indoor and others for outdoor. The Green Crack I grew indoor was nothing like the plant I grew outdoor. Humboldt genetics are selected for outdoor growing. While the Jack Herrer grew indoor was better than the outdoor one. So I think selection plays a big role as well. IMO, the difference is there. A buddy of mine did a side by side clone dwc vs soil grow. The dwc finished faster and had bigger buds, but the soil grow had a more pungent smell. It also had an earthy taste to it. Something the dwc bud was lacking.3 points

Honestly bru if you're growing to show your plants off then a journal is there for you, I don't grow to win anything, I do it because of the joy it will bring me. The bud is the best prize you could ever get, don't forget that. For now POTM is not going to happen, this isn't the first time it fell on its face only to be brought back. Start up more traffic on the forum, get more people involved. I seen somebody say they don't want to update daily because that's boring, well buddy if seeing your grow daily is boring then perhaps you shouldn't be doing it at all. My friend can attest to when he found me on 420 International with journals peeking over 30k views, updating on a very frequent basis. We can't start this comp on the basis of there might be a prize, does it mean if 15 people enter and 2 drop out it'll leave you with no prizes because it's below the minimum requirement of participants? Honestly bru and this is the end of my rant, leave it for now. Update your journal, enjoy your time here, enjoy your trials of error and success, give advice and take it in. Stay blazed Sent from my G3312 using Tapatalk2 points

You'll win a packet of marshmallows tbh. I agree with 420SA, there isn't enough people entering and honestly it'll just be a waste of time. No company is gonna sponsor 7 blokes growing, and I'm not pissing on anyone but if you enter a veg plant for POTM it better be a doozie. Even with this current grow off, people were gifted awesome genetics with a simple rule, get a journal going and keep it updated. But apparently we have children who are also stoners that can't even do that. If I had the choice I'd never do a grow off comp like this again, because people take you for a nai not to mention the load of fucking hippies that also joined this forum. I have a tent full of plants, and a shortage of stash, so flower time ... Mixed batch, originating from clones and seeds, although they're all pachamama stock, so just taking what I get. Theoretically, White Widow, Gorilla Glue #4, Super Lemon Haze, Super Silver Haze & Blue Kush. I say theoretically, because previous experience has shown they end up pretty much the same. Nice, but not what was expected. So, here goes....1 point

Update on the unknown strains. Some of these guys are surprising me with some amazing growth over just a few days(pic1&2), cant wait to see what they look like next tomorrow, i mean next week;) i did also notice the ones doing so great are the ones in coco/perlite/soil mix, gave no kak at all. The other that are just in coco/perlite/vermiculite showed signs of deficiencies early already and has been up and down to keep their ph at 5.8, which for some reason after adding mix reads at 6.2. Yes the mix was ph balanced to 5.8 before feeding. i think on next replant i will add all of the plants to coco/perlite/soil mix instead. Also takes less feedings, as suppose to everyday feedings with coco/perlite/vermiculite.1 point

Whats good everyone, i have 3 x peyote cookies germinated in solo cups. They got rootbound really quickly and i had two plants finishing up in my space so i had to transplant them into little 2L pots to save space while my autos finished up. Girls were transplanted into these tiny pots 10 days ago, and ive not once seen them perk up since. Plants are in jamies orgasoilux, 3 weeks since germination. Sitting under a 240W QB dimmed to 120W in little 2L pots. Being fed molasses/EM1 and plain water. Last watered them 2 days ago and before that it went 3 days without water. lights on: 22-23C 50-60% RH, lights off: 17-19C 70-80% RH1 point

That's a recovery and a half, well done Pat. I must admit, I was a little stressed and thought it would take way longer. Obviously got the attention they needed, balls and all1 point

Interesting thing, he gave us two buds. At the time we didn't know what it was, we were just told to puff a small section of each and write our findings down, only after we compared notes did he tell us what it was. So as for the placebo effect, that's a no from me Sir1 point

From my experience, between indoor hydro and outdoor soil of the same strain/mother The indoor nugs were much denser and frostier... And had a nice dank smell early in bloom, smells left somewhat towards the end of the grow. The outdoor nugs were still dense, but not as dense as the indoor, the nugs were bigger than the indoor by a good amount, and kept their scent all the way, through drying and curing. So now obviously the circumstances between the 2 are vast and I can't give a true comparison... But I'm pretty sure the soil move played a big role1 point

I havent been on any forums that offer such amazing opportunities to show off your grow... As a fairly new member, it is an exciting avenue to show off my plants and to gain something, however small it may be. I do agree with you about peeps needing to participate and not spectate, but how's about a monthly poll either way, with prizes offered if more than 15 or 20 people vote or enter a Pic... I'd rather have a prizeless POTM than nothing. Most growers on this forum seem to be new growers who are battling it out like we have when we started growing.. And I don't think we should be too critical about how they update their grows.. Even some of the more experienced growers and members on this forum have incomplete journals that have been left off. So yea man... It's not ideal with the amount of participants that have been playing POTM, but there is more than one way to skin a cat1 point

Day 21 Some good growth has happened this past week on majority of the plants. I added some auto's into the mix, want to get some STS and do a bit of experimenting and reversing to try get some seeds and see how it turns out. Daiquari Lime #2 does not have a seed in it yet, I popped 2 and the one has not yet germinated so popped the 3rd and now waiting for that to germinate and then I will pot it. My Bag seed plant is growing nicely, although is not happy about something so I did a semi flush on Sunday and will monitor it. Either PH issues or too many nutes, I may have started feeding too early. Very very bushy though and I am not sure what to do with her? The others are all doing well, liking the growth I have been seeing on the CBD Critical Mass, GSC #2 is has not been happy the past two days or so. Will check the roots tonight, perhaps she is root bound. GDP #2 will need to be re-potted soon too, surprised it survived actually. Very robust strain. Will be a bit behind the others but happy to wait a bit longer for it. I am sure the yields will be worth while.1 point

They're 2-4 months old. I would normally veg for another month or so, but I've got the chocolope (indoor growoff) in the pipeline and some imported Nirvana GSC & Sherbet Cookies seeds that I'm itching to pop.1 point

It's another early morning off day gardening session for me. Having potted 15 clones and checking up on my flowering girls which has gone to 12 days since 12/12 switch. Bay11 is taking a tos long time to gooi pistils but it'll get there. The rest are already going nicely. My AK, BD, Bay11 and Lemon Diesel are all over 1m already from the ground to the tip. The two AH girls aren't far off 1m a piece either. The runts are the SA and DC OG, take a peek. I also potted up my little Vanilla Kush clone which was showing beautiful white roots, no soil lost from the root ball. Have a jas one ouens Sent from my G3312 using Tapatalk1 point

Your pH range is too unspecific and you are going to run into problems. If you are going it organic then narrow the range to 6.0 to 6.4 with 6.2 the sweet spot. Inorganic your range is 5.6 to 6.0 with 5.8 the sweet spot.1 point

For what it's worth...I germinate my seeds in full summer sun. They are built to handle extremes we are blissfully unaware of. Even indoors will do well under HPS imo.1 point

I wish bud but we've tried to revive POTM a few times. It just doesn't get the level of interest it should to make it worthwhile for sponsors. There are a good few, like you, who would love POTM to go the distance but we need at least 20 entries a month to really make this comp a good contest and worthwhile for the sponsors. One thing I don't think some members grasped is that it doesn't matter if you know that your plant won't win. Entering your plant is essentially a vote in favour of keeping the comp going. No matter at what stage it is. If the comp doesn't get enough entries it can only look like very few are interested. More interest = bigger prizes too Sucks to make decisions like this but it wasn't a tough one unfortunately...1 point

I have to agree led are the future...... but we live in the presant and unless you want to spend 15k+ on a panel hid will kick led ass any day of the week. I am not trying to be nasty but I have seen countless people buy led panels ... today they use hid. Just my 2 cents Cheers Reaf1 point
