My reason for going organic is it ends up being cheaper in the long run. No expensive nutrients. It also feels more natural. I'm not force feeding the plants. They just do their thing like nature intended it to grow. Sent from my VTR-L09 using Tapatalk2 points

Hey guys, Completely new to growing. thrown a few seeds around to see what they do in the past, but never followed through. was hoping you guys could give me some advice, I'm planning an outdoor grow for this season, don't plan on investing too much, around R1500. the issue is I'm really unsure of which route I should go. Coco or organic soil. I've been looking into it, and the coco option is really appealing to me, but it seems daunting, and expensive for what i had in mind, and the organic option seems fine, but I'm not aiming for "fine". I made two separate lists for whichever grow I decide on. Coco perlite hortimix a,b and mpk (from hydroponics.co.za) 3x 20l Fabric pots (although I've read around 11l pots are good enough for coco) found a very inexpensive tds and ph meter combo on bid or buy, its the same model the hydro stores stock for around 400. some calmag, ph up & down and then the organics list is not as comprehensive, because I went down the coco rabbit hole. soil (obviously) considering the freedom farms premium blend, or the hydroherb promix organic which is 50l for around R300, but i cant find enough information on the ingredients, also found something called orgasoilux. 3x 20l Fabric pots maybe some perlite? all the potting mixes I've seen, say they feed for s short time, so which nutrients does one add after that period? would some vermicompost do? or would i be better off going for the hortimix combo as it can be used in organic soil too, but then the water has to be ph'd to make it available to the plant. basically I'm really keen on the coco, because I'm looking for quantity and quality bud, but I don't want to invest too much, and be too inexperienced to actually get a good yield, or even worse kill the plants. does anyone use the hortimix a,b and mpk, is it simple? I'm planning on getting some feminized seeds too. the royal gorilla, silver haze and utopic haze. will they do alright in our climate? can anyone suggest some good strains for outdoor container growing? whats the best local seedbank? any that have a no germinating return policy? thinking of going with biltong and buds or cannasmiths, thoughts? any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.1 point

That sounds incredible man. I plan on training, and all that. Will be sure to check in here when the time comes to groom my girls. On the super soil and promix, I have done some research, but I will be sure to check it out. Yeah, buying the FF or similar soil would be R1000 for 120l, I must admit, that dents the budget, plus the biobizz grow and bloom is another R600 for two 1l bottles, which I'm not even sure will do for 3 girls in one season, and don't even get me started on the over priced fabric pots Loving the community. Thanks again my dudes.1 point

Firstly a disclaimer, I'm a new grower only on my second grow. But I've recently switched to coco/perlite and I'm loving it. I think there are different trade offs and there are some very experiend soil & organic growers on this forum that can help you out if you go that route. I'm not sure there is a clear answer one way or the other. Its really going to depend on your interests and goals... If you are interested in coco/perlite I can certainly tell you what is working for me so far and why I prefer it, also have you seen https://cocoforcannabis.com? Quite a lot there, if you are intested shout and I'll send some links etc. Perhaps we'll need a coco/perite thread at some point1 point

Wow... #cracks knuckles Heisenberg tea is AACT He has complex ones and basic ones. I ran into root issues because I was once a noob who took outdoor plants, rinsed the roots, and put it in my hydro... Lol what a mess!! Thankfully, Heisenberg saved me and my grow. He lists only American stuff... Great white mycos and ancient Forrest soils and stuff... I found the basic teas ingredients here in SA... Per 10l Basic ingredients are EM pro(25ml or more... Note that the bottle says its viable for 90 days.. So don't be shy) mycoroot mycorrhizal fungi (25ml of the granules) Molasses (1tbsp) Brew for 48hours in dechlorinated tap water... at room temp (20-28)... I use water that has been standing for 48 hours minimum Those 3 ingredients will fix your rootzone.. I add kelpak, worm castings, humic acids, magnesium sulphate, various soils for diversity... As long as you have the main ingredients you will have a great tea Chuck it in fairly liberally if you have an infection... I'd go for 100ml per 10l res Then go down to 50ml per 20l for inoculations every few weeks or every reschange1 point

I did not pH my water for outside growing. If you plant in September I would go 40l. If you plant end of Desember 20l would be fine. Check out the soil on the 420store. It is good. Sent from my VTR-L09 using Tapatalk1 point

I agree freedom Farm soil with biobizz Bloom if you have extra bucks get the biobizz grow too but you won't need it for the first few weeks the freedom Farm soil should be good for 6-8 weeks atleast I also add a bit of Epsom salt when using biobizz1 point

Welcome to the forum. If I was you I would by 3x 40l smart pots. 3 bags of either Freedom Farms/ Organic Matters soil. One bottle of BioBizz Bloom. Find a sunny spot an let the plant grow. Any local seeds will be good for outdoor growing or American seeds like Humboldt seed organisations seeds are good for outdoor growing. If I was a first timer I would not go the hydro/coco route. But the decision is yours. Sent from my VTR-L09 using Tapatalk1 point

Just to throw a spanner in the works, there is also Organic Hydroponics, but I have not seen any of the nutes here in SA. I am a organic soil grower, but I can tell from some experiences abroad that I think it is very much up to the grower, and his or her available nutes + knowledge. Some of the dopest dope I ever smoked was hydroponically grown, and also some of the dopest dope I ever smoked was good ol soil grown. I think the flush is what really makes a hydroponic smoke match up to a soil grow, with that said I'm horrible at hydro, will give it another go when we get some organic lines in SA. Awesome thread OP, stay blazd up 420SA!1 point

I grew in hydro for my first few years of growing before eventually having a go at organic. I can relate to what the guys are saying above about yield, growth rate and flavour. I've experienced the same, there is a difference, not huge, but there is. I've compared with clones. There a many variables to consider though so I'd be cautious to say that one is better than the other with 100% certainty. The flavour issue with hydro could be down to something missing in the hydro nute lines that would maybe address that lack of flavour. Or perhaps there's something we're not nailing with hydro. Cannabis is such a complex plant with so many different compounds and terpenes.... It's either that or its that same effect that you get with fruit and veggies where the larger the fruit is the more its flavour seems to dissipate.1 point

Was it an earthy taste because you knew it grew in soil or because it was really earthy. Remember there is no spoon1 point

So decided to snip those dreary looking bottom leaves and they seem to like it alot! Progress is ok seeing how crappy Cape Town weather is at the moment but they look healthy.1 point

That's mostly my experience too... Enough to convince me to try this out and see how it goes... My idea is to have the speed and vigor in veg, get them to the size I want, train them nice... Then into soil to bloom. I will be showcasing this in my grows.. Including the Chocolope competition plant1 point
-
IMO, the difference is there. A buddy of mine did a side by side clone dwc vs soil grow. The dwc finished faster and had bigger buds, but the soil grow had a more pungent smell. It also had an earthy taste to it. Something the dwc bud was lacking.1 point

Synthetic is the wrong word. There is nothing synthetic about it. Minerals or salts would be P.C .1 point

I literally stand and stare... A whole hour can pass without me even moving... Occasionally I'll swoop in real close and inspect a leaf and then swoop out and resume my stare... Personally, I think they like the attention and or my presence1 point

Added a tray to enable me to give a real good flush before harvest this time. Added the first net today and gave them their first feed since they in the fabric pots. . The big budha cheese is also smoking very good final yield 200g lower than I'd like but it's dank1 point

It's another early morning off day gardening session for me. Having potted 15 clones and checking up on my flowering girls which has gone to 12 days since 12/12 switch. Bay11 is taking a tos long time to gooi pistils but it'll get there. The rest are already going nicely. My AK, BD, Bay11 and Lemon Diesel are all over 1m already from the ground to the tip. The two AH girls aren't far off 1m a piece either. The runts are the SA and DC OG, take a peek. I also potted up my little Vanilla Kush clone which was showing beautiful white roots, no soil lost from the root ball. Have a jas one ouens Sent from my G3312 using Tapatalk1 point

Oh! Yes... Growing is addictive lol... The more I research the more parts and amendments I need and crave... I often find myself thinking about my grow before I go to sleep... And very often lose attention and daydream about growing... Mid convo at times... HI! my name is Richard, and I'm a growing addict. It's so bad, my girlfriend has banned me from any shopping isle with lights or fans or anything that could possibly be used to grow with...1 point

Thanks man, surviving despite me! Doing a bit of leaf tucking and stem pinching to expose the developing areas. I know, I do have a 100x100x200cm tent I bought and haven't opened, still unsure how far I want to go with this lil hobby. Kind of spent more money than I can afford! Although if I switch to photos, I can use the smaller tent for veg and larger for flower, get a perpetual deal going on. Perhaps that would pay for itself over the years.1 point

They look great. Are you going to move some of those plants somewhere else? They will get too big for that tent1 point

Stop listening to those nyaope smokers, coco/perlite or organic matters soil. However I would not transplant it again you'll most likely kill it. Just leave the plant and see what happens for the next few days, don't over water, don't under water, don't fertilize. Just leave.1 point

Awesome,@stinky, very much inspiring hope, but luckily our constituted has proved to be modern and progressive. I'm a secular humanist and really, I can never wrap my head around all the superstitions the world sells to people. But people are seemingly becoming more open minded, hopefully society will get more accepting of greater diversity and inclusivity. That said, conservative fuckers hey, those special snowflakes will always make war on our liberty, cause Jesus, white power, misogyny and homophobia is apparently worthy of being defended..... IMO I honestly don't think much calmag is necessary especially if you are using tap water...there is plenty available in the nutriplex as well As long as the pH is on point, they have enough available to them1 point
