Thought I'd give an update on what's happening my side grow wise 3 different strains running in my tent at the moment, soon to be 4. Back left - Rare Dankness scotts OG in the Organics matter living soil Back right - Humboldt seeds Amherst Sour Diesel. Also in the OM soil Middle row left - Rare Dankness scotts OG in my own soil Middle row right - Humboldt Seeds Amhest Sour Diesel in my own soil Front - Rare Dankness Starkiller OG in my own soil Delicious Seeds Sugar Black Rose soon to enter in some more OM soil. The Scotts OG's are now 2 and a half weeks through flower. They are clones of the same plant. They were transplanted into their respective soils a week before flip. They came from a regular seed The Sour Diesels are 2 weeks through flower. Also transplanted a week prior to flip. I'm pretty sure I put them in the flower tent too soon but that's no major issue. The Starkiller OG has been in flower for 4 weeks and 4 days now. She came from a regular seed. Only bought 2 regular seeds of this strain, thank fuck the gamble paid off. The first seed I germed and grew out turned out male. So i germed this seed with a clenched nort till she showed sex! As you can tell I'm running the same strains in my soil and the organics matter soil. This wasn't initially intended but I've essentially got a comparison going here. They are clones of the same plants and were very similar in size before being transplanted into their respective soils. Game on! Will do my best to keep you guys updated The Starkiller OG6 points

Hey Crex, coming from an HID background, I fully agree, it played a massive role in the evolution of grow lights. But when it's time to upgrade..... LED is like a new little sportscar, smaller, lighter, sexier. :) Truth be told, if I wasn't limited to space, I'd probably still be running HID. Sent from my CLT-L29 using Tapatalk3 points

@CreX did some measurements on his 250W HPS and the actual draw from the wall was 650W - that is stupid. Let's say 1560w to run a 600W HPS. That is 1.56kw per hour. 12 hours a day brings us to 18.72Kwh 30 days a month ends up at 561.6kwh Let's work on a rough R2.20 per kwh, brings you to R1 235.52 per month. I wouldn't consider HPS, I love my LED's too much. The efficiency is tops and the lack of heat and the extra height you can gain etc. 480W of decent LED's would equal a 600W HPS give or take. Let's say you have an efficiency of around 95% I think that will work out to a draw of around 504W from the wall. The end result costs you R427.68 per month to run the LED's. It's really a very easy choice to make. In a few months you'd have made your money back on the LED's compared to the HPS.2 points

It's going well, I'll take a new pic tonight. @nakes Yes LED My strips arrived so will be building my new light during the course of the week.2 points

Yo, so veg tent first. All just chugging along. I'm excited for the current flowering girls to finish so that I can start the next round with veg period under the Gavita. I have my Vanilla Kush, Pineapple Dew, Jack Herer and OG Kush essentially ready for taking clones. So as soon as my current clones go into the Gavita tent the next clones will be going already. Then when those clones are ready my current mother clones will be of size to take new clones from. Perpetual is the motion that flows the ocean. I'm kak high. Hit up an electrical wholesale company... They will give you a great deal on a HPS flood light for under 2k for a light fitting, cable and chain to hang it1 point

For sure! And there's start up costs... Granted, LEDs are becoming cheaper and cheaper by the year, they have amazing efficiency... Cost less to run... It really is a no brainer... You can get them in any spectrum you want... Geez the list goes on... But if you are on a budget... HPS start up costs are still really low, and the results are decent... But when you work hard and have a bit of extra bucks... Upgrading to LED is a smart move1 point

There are pro's and cons i would imagine, to both hps and led. Big warehouse in Colorado pumping shittons of Gravita watts, just saying. If room is too cold hps is boss, if room is to hot led will always be king, my 2cents.1 point

So quick correction on PsyCLown.. Initial current is 3A but it tapers down to 2.4A~ which brings the watts down to 500w and not 650... Minor improvement... But still very very inifficient. I agree, LED is the way to go... But the HID lighting has given a huge contribution to indoor growing... So it's not fair to be terribly critical. Sadly, LED's are super expensive to buy in the layout.. It's almost offputing... But sourcing the parts and importing makes things much cheaper and cost friendly.1 point

I don't like Hps because of the orange light and I don't like cheap LED's because of the blurple light. I'm a huge fan of CMH best spectrum at the price and use Samsung led to supplement. CMH creates less heat than hps and is more efficient even Gavita launched cmh fixtures now.1 point

I got them from Grohydro they don't advertise the accessories on their website. Basically the DS120 comes with only 1 light baffle intake 1 extraction setup with 150mm flange and 1 cable flange. I ordered an additional light baffle intake setup, cable flange setup and 125mm flanges as I have a 125mm fan. They are ordering rubber ducting connectors to use between ur fan and filter I'll get that later when they got stock.1 point

Hps/Mh is much cheaper at startup but your power bill will soon catch up to a decent Qb/cob setup1 point

I would like to invite everybody to share their breeding projects here with the breeding group if you wish. How to Post: Create your titles in the following manner. (I am open to suggestions this is just my attempt at this) Kinds of threads Lineup - This is a thread where you can post about your projects, you can reserve the second post for pictures to upload for future updates if first post gets too long. I will pin the Lineups submitted by breeders. Lineup thread title - Lineup: YourUsernameOnly Phenohunt - This is where you can post your phenohunts from your breeding projects. Phenohunting thread title - Phenohunt: YourStrainName + Gen - Breeder: YourUsernameOnly Strain - This is where you can showcase your strains that you have bred. Strain thread title - Strain: YourStrainName + Gen - Breeder: YourUsernameOnly For now I think that could keep a nice organised forum about our breeding projects, suggestions welcome. Have fun.1 point

I've been messing round with autos and trichs go the same route as photoperiod strains, busy with a ak47 auto and it's going on 68days and still no sign of flowering yet, my dog topped it for me but it's still going strong..1 point

Lekker bru lekker, congrats to Stoukie for taking this one. Funny enough yesterday I went in to get some water for my veg girls and saw a small spider yeet out the jojo tank tap and saved the fella asap. Had him dry himself off on my finger and let him go on his way. Sent from my G3312 using Tapatalk1 point

I've done this to my previous tent and also used some PVC pipes. After a month the suction on the tent just bent the PVC in a bow and kept it there[emoji23]looking to upgrade to some aluminium square tube for the current tent Sent from my G3312 using Tapatalk1 point

Companion planting outdoors is the way. My marigolds just come up wherever they want. They dont grow tall and are hardy af.1 point

Interesting site I came across... I doubt it will work as an after-measure, but I will certainly dabble with this idea. 1. Marigolds. These flowers are colorful additions to landscaping, but they have a distinctive smell that repels mosquitoes and other garden pests, including squash bugs and tomato worms. Marigolds contain a natural compound used in many insect repellents. Plant some marigolds in the garden among your squash, melons and tomatoes or near open windows and doorways where mosquitoes might be tempted to enter. 2. Lavender. About the only insects you see around lavender are bees. They love the flowers, but other bugs stay away. Lavender has a pleasant scent that comes from the essential oils in the leaves of the plant, but the bugs hate it. Hang some dried lavender in your closet and you won’t have to worry about moths eating your clothes. The herb is a perennial and is drought resistant once it's established, a bonus for areas that are watching their water consumption. 3. Lemon grass. Lemon grass can grow up to 4 feet tall, but the best thing about this decorative grass is that it contains citronella, a common natural ingredient in many mosquito repellents. You’ve probably heard of citronella candles and torches. The plant itself does even better at deterring mosquitoes because it has a stronger smell. Lemon grass tolerates heat and drought but not frost. So in most areas, it’s best planted in a pot that can be moved indoors in winter. 4. Garlic. This herb has long been regarded as a deterrent to blood-sucking vampires and werewolves, but it really deters buzzing blood-sucking mosquitoes. Planting garlic around the garden also will ward off other insects and creepy crawlers. Garlic extract sprayed in your garden is harmless to plants, but bugs don’t like that garlic odor. 5. Rosemary. Though you'll want to plant an herb garden for cooking, rosemary repels flies and mosquitoes. It also has a pungent scent that drives away other bugs, including cabbage moths. It does well in hot dry weather, and thrives in containers, so you can set it in various places around the garden. 6. Basil. This herb also tastes great in your favorite dishes but doubles as a bug repellent. Basil’s strong smell keeps mosquitoes away. And if you put a potted basil plant near your picnic table, you won’t have to worry as much about flies either. 7. Catnip. Many cats love catnip, but mosquitoes won’t come near it. In fact, some studies show that catnip is 10 times more effective than DEET, the chemical formally known as N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide and found in most commercial insect repellents. Roll up a few catnip leaves and rub them on your skin. The bugs won’t bother you, but the neighbor’s cat might. Catnip grows almost anywhere, and it will spread in your garden. So growing it in pots is best. 8. Petunias. These annuals add a bright splash of color to any landscape, but the funnel-shaped blossoms also have a licorice-like scent that repels many insect pests, including aphids, tomato hornworms and squash bugs. But do keep an eye on these flowers because other crawly garden pests are attracted to petunias, including slugs and caterpillars. 9. Mint. Who doesn’t like the taste of mint? It’s a beautiful plant that smells and tastes great to people, but ants and mice absolutely hate it. It can spread quickly in the garden and is hard to remove, so you might want to keep it in a pot. Put some containers of mint around your patio or in your garden, and it will ward off other insects, including mosquitoes. Sent from my CLT-L29 using Tapatalk1 point

Not my recipe... Lemon, Orange, Lime, Raspberry, Strawberry and Blackcurrant Fruit Pastilles 240g Fruit Purée 225g caster (superfine) sugar 95g liquid glucose 10g pectin 2.5ml lemon juice Put the fruit purée, 150g of the sugar and the liquid glucose in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Mix the remaining sugar with the pectin in a small bowl. Whisk the pectin mixture into the boiling fruit purée. Continue to cook over a low heat, stirring continuously, until the mixture reaches 104°C (219°F) on a sugar thermometer. Mix in the lemon juice and continue to cook for 3–4 minutes. Pour the mixture into a silicone mould and leave to set for 2–3 hours in a cool, dry place. Demould the set pastilles and roll them in granulated sugar.1 point
