I put some jiffies on a plate and kept water in the plate to keep them moist. Popped 2 Banana grove, and 2 Girl Scout Cookies into the jiffies, no scuff, no paper towels, no presoak... 100% germination with tap water and jiffies All 4 were completely out of the jiffies this morning, but I didn't snap a Pic. R1600 for 100w of proper LED's isn't terrible actually. The issue with HID is the electricity is going to make you cry aswl we'll as heat in summer, you'll need an aircon and that's further going to wreck your electricity bill. This years cross of focus to me is this F1 hybrid, chocolope haze male onto a bubbleberry female. These were all started outdoors last weekend, and some are destined to a permanent spot outdoors, while I will also be force flowering from mid October.

Heya! So as the title states, this is just another first grow. I'm sure you've all seen many of them. Lets start with some equipment and what I'll be growing and take it from there, obviously open to suggestions as I'm still learning. I don't have a grow tent unfortunately, growing in a storage room of sorts which I've painted flat white. Grow area is approx 110cm x 90cm at a push. I have 4x 288 Quantum Boards in 3000k setup in here, currently running 2 off an ELG-240-54A while I wait for my HLG-480-54A. No extraction or air intake at the moment. Trying to seal up and prevent light leaks and shall be trying to complete this tomorrow. Currently lights are off at night to prevent light leak issues. I have my humidity dome in here too and have a heating pad underneath it as it's very cold. I have added a heater to the grow area today and it seems to be making a decent difference in terms of temps, increased from 17C to 23C. I have a fan inside to circulate the air. RH is on the low side at 36-40% RH so might look at adding my humidifier into the area, not sure how to control the RH with it just yet as I don't have any electronics to assist at the moment. I'm using Freedom Farms soil, Biobizz nutes (fish mix & bloom) & have a mixture of pots but plan on using 20L fabric pots in the end. Currently have 2 bagseed seedlings in there with 13 seeds germinating as per the below: 3x Chocolope (Totemic Genetics) 3x Bruce Banner 3 (Dark Star Genetics) 3x Grandpa Banner (Dark Star Genetics) 3x Sticky Icky (Dark Star Genetics) 1x CBD Critical Mass (Seedsman) All are regular seeds except for the CBD strain which is feminised. I'm hoping not all 12 seeds are female as I don't have space, however I'd like at least 1 female from each. One of my bag seed seedlings might not make it, still busy monitoring it. Before my lights arrived I had to put them outside for some natural sun and my cat seems to really like the FF soil and dug up the seedling, twice. Prior to that she dug up my 3rd seedling and peed in that pot, the seedling died... Not sure if I can just flush the soil with water and reuse it? The stem of the dug up seedling is very thin in one area but still seems to be alive so hopefully it pulls through. Not much in terms of pics at the moment as I've been busy putting my room together and am still busy with that. Although here are the seeds in some rapid rooters and in the humidity dome. I broke off a piece of the rapid rooter and put it inside the hole to try keep the seeds dark and covered. The seeds were soaked for around 22 hours before being placed into the rapid rooters with the exception of the cbd strain which was soaked for closer to 28 hours and was only put into the rapid rooter today. I have 3 plants at the moment, roughly 2-3 weeks old i think. Named White Monopoly Capital , Boerboel and Deez Buds. Deez buds seems to have a genetic abnormality on its leaves. Is it worthwile to continue growing him/her? I have them under a 1000w ( 150w actual draw prob ) Led light 18 hours on 6 hours of. Deez nuts had a little mold on the the soil,so i sprinkled some Diatomaceous Earth on the soil. All pots are 25L. Wish me luck and feel free to give advice.

Hello;) I am a first-time grower and my seedlings are three weeks old-I want to transplant them soon but am not sure which size pots are appropiate and also if I must use one plant per pot? I live in Middelburg, Mpumalanga and am not hopeful that the local garden centres will have organic soil-will a good potting soil do? I would be grateful for any info, thanks;)

I'm enjoying the Organic Matters soil, well worth it if you want some proper soil. I prefer it over the Freedom Farms soil. Good luck with your grow, you can get smaller pots or go for a larger pot right away (like 20L +) Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk

Brilliant-thanks so much;) I just chucked in seeds from the last decent lot that I had-ever the optimist, I have high hopes;)) Middelburg isn't that great but the soil is good and I have plenty of space - just wish I'd done this years ago!!

Each strip is 11.1V run at 1000mA. They are LM301B diodes. I am running them at 1050mA. So they do 11.655w. So the whole light is 163.17w according to my calculation. Sent from my VTR-L09 using Tapatalk

[emoji1690] Welcome and I hope you learn lots of new things. Seeing that you are planting in those 6 pack trays you can let them grow in there until about the 3rd set of leaves start developing. When you germinate, under what light will it be or are you doing an outdoor grow [emoji50]??? Regarding pot size I personally would transplant to one of those 15 cm pots when they are ready . From there you can go bigger etc. What seeds do you have going.??? I've been on vacation to Polokwane but that's all I know outside of Western Cape. LoL. So I'm sorry but I can't help you regarding the Nurseries there. The name Middleburg makes it sound dry and well,....kakkerig. But if none of them can help you with proper soil, try making your own soilles mix. I can always pop into my local Build it and get a block of palm peat and a bag of Vermiculite. Add some seagro to your shopping basket and your set on basic grow medium that will not let you overwater your plants. Anything else, just ask. I'm sure someone else will give some advice. True. I find myself browsing through the site coming accross threads that has that one word or pic in that puts it all together. Or you learn something new. I am being taught new things and having grown for more than 10 years I still learn new ways of doing things. I say keep the light and use it for now, it'll work fine. Yes you do get better lights but for what you paid for it, it's fine. Save up and I'd suggest getting some quantum boards with Samsung diodes when you're able to afford them. Imo they're some of the best value for money LED's available currently. Excellent performance and efficiency, combine it with a high efficiency Meanwell driver / power supply and you've got yourself a superb light which will last quite a while. I've used one of these in a few closet grows way back got like 60g per plant. those were the 3w chips though... but also rated at 100w.

The type of diodes make a world's difference when it comes to growing with LED's. Also LED's are seldom run at their max power handling as their efficiency drops, you get diminished returns after a certain point. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk

By the sounds of it it might not be full spectrum. Do you have/ know how to use a multimeter? For basic lux measurements you can get a lux meter on your phone... Doesn't really give you accurate readings, but it does help with light placing and stuff

What colour is the light? The add says it's full spectrum... So it should be a cool white or warm white colour when it's on. If it's a blurple light, it's prob not full spectrum. Run some tests though... Maybe the manufacturer used some decent diodes and you hit a luck... Start a grow diary and let's see what happens!

Day 79 / Day 27 of Flower A quick update of some pics, will do a more detailed update in a few days. These pics were taken last night. Flowering is going well, buds are forming nicely and they're filling out. I must admit, the bagseed is actually the best looking and smelling plant currently. I agree with @Smelly Joe anything below the scrog net I would clean up, so remove the smaller branches and leaves etc. Look at what my plants looked like after I cleaned them up: Looking back at those pics, they have actually grow a looot since then too!

Well if it was me I would strip off all the growth that is not part of the main canopy. Branches and all and focus on top growth for bud. After some defoliation and selective branch pruning you might end up with enough space to do some LST work Are they in flower yet or have you flipped the switch??? It is a skunk...

Day 72 / Day 20 of flower So I took some photos last night after doing a light defoliation to remove some leaves which were stopping light from reaching bud sites and after a nice watering. Having 6 in that small space is not ideal I feel it will affect my yields. Especially without a scrog net - next time I would like to use my scrog net, I have an idea now on how to water the ones in the back with the scrog net. Day 61 / Day 9 of Flower So I reinforced my tent a bit, not fully done but its something for now. It's helping with the negative pressure and the sides getting sucked into the plants. I did another heavy lollipop / defoliation on the plants, will leave them for now to recover and continue their journey, I should have taken a pic before. Day 52 I defoliste the plants relatively heavily (or lolipipped them). I also adjusted my timer, so tomorrow will be their first day of 12/12 and then they'll officially be in flowering. I did swap out a few plants in my flower tent, I have the following in there: GSC X BB3 GDP X BB3 BB3 Chocolope CBD Critical Mass Bagseed I gave them their last full veg feeding at 4ml fish mix / L. Day 33 I feel this is a bit boring as the pics are so similar, once I have culled the plants I think it will be a bit better as I will have fewer plants to update on and can start showing things in a bit more detail per plant. Having this amount of plants is quite a lot of work! I got my bigger LED driver on Thursday and got around to installing it earlier today, so my QB's are now being run at 333W, quite a bit more compared to the previous 180W. It was really needed as I repotted my plants on Saturday to their final 20L fabric pots and the extra space the pots take requires me to raise the lights to get a better spread, so the lights are still not being run at 100% which is 480W. I doubt I will run the lights at their full potential as there isn't much of a need for it. Probably 360 - 400W at most. I topped all the plants, with the exception of GDP #2 which is still very small and trimmed / pruned them and did some more LST. GDP #2 and GSC #3 were not repotted due to the fact that firstly I do not have more space for them if I put them into bigger pots and secondly GSC #3 is already in a slightly larger pot and GDP #2 is still on the small side and is doing fine in that pot for now. I really need the plants to start showing their sex as I need to cull some plants and reduce the amount I have. Most likely within the next 2 weeks and once that has happened I am thinking I will flip the plants into flower - will see how things go over the next 2 weeks although plants are growing pretty quickly now. I am feeding them at 2ml / L with BioBizz Fish Mix, stopped with the EM Pro as it's not really needed each watering. I used a bit of Cal Mag and Kelpak along the way too and have finally added some sort of extraction to my area as it was much needed due to the humidity being waaaay too high for too long and causing condensation running down the walls on a daily basis so that can only do the plants some good. I will most likely be connecting the fan to an RH probe with a relay to control the RH with the extraction fan and then connect my heater to the temp probe & relay as I feel it may work better than the built in thermostat in the heater itself. I am now using Organics Matter soil, I prefer it over the Freedom Farms soil and the plants I've had in the OM (Organics Matter) seemed happier too and less affected by the low PH I had been feeding them for a while. The fabric pots I got from Plant Matter are waaaay better than the ones from Grow Guru! Both in terms of quality and sizing, I wish I had not purchased the Grow Guru ones.

Thanks, very interesting read and actually does not seem like a ton of maintenance. Interesting on the lower amount of nutes, I guess you do not want tons of growth really. I will certainly be giving this a try!
