So once again, a COB a type of LED, Chip on Board. End of the day, the actual type of LED in place on the COB will ultimately determine the performance. Let's use cars as an example, think of COB as a hatch back and a Quantum Board as a sedan. There are many different hatch backs and sedans. Now think of comparing a Hyundai i10 (a certain type of COB) to an Audi RS3 (another type of COB). Both are hatchback cars but the RS3 has way more power than the i10. The same applies to Quantum boards, compare a Honda Civic Sedan to a BMW M3 - both are sedans (Quantum Boards) but once again the M3 has way more power. It really comes down to the type of LED, that is where the difference comes into play the most. Not so much the way the LED is implemented, although that can certainly have a difference too. One of the main advantages of a Quantum Board over a COB is the source of light. With a COB (or even an HID - be it CMH, MH or HPS) is that there is a single source of light. One light bulb / one LED. A Quantum Board has multiple light sources, the QB's I use have 288 LED's (some a few more) per Quantum boards and in my flower tent I am currently running 4. So that is 1152 LED's in total, 1152 sources of light. This makes a big difference. A simple example is to imagine yourself standing in a room, with 1 light infront of you. Now behind you there will be a shadow. If you add a 2nd light behind you, the shadow isn't as noticeable. It is heavily reduce and will vary depending on the position of the light. When it comes to LED's, the biggest factor in performance still comes down to the LED itself. A car is a car, it gets you places. Some will just do so quicker and with more comfort than others. The same rings true for LED's, an LED is an LED in the sense that they will both produce light although the amount of light which is produced will differ along with how much of that light the plants can actually make use of. The second part being the most important, one cannot judge an LED grow light just based on how much light it actually outputs, the plants need to be able to make use of the light.4 points

Hi everyone I wish you all well today. so I have just completed my first grow I’m still pretty noob and I grew in potting soil mixed with bonemeal and fed moderate amounts of seagro most of the until closer to the end as I could now see the bonemeal burning them. I never used any flowering nutrients thinking the bonemeal would provide enough of the P, I wasn’t happy with the bud sizes ( I’ll post a pic ) I saw some EHG nutrients on growguru site it sounds ‘ amazing ‘ as most are trying to market there product but before I go ahead and purchase the A, B, micro kit I would like everyone’s opinions on the matter, I’ll be using it in coco only grow next ( I’m revenging the same plant, time wreck) and putting it in a scrog this time, but after that I want to do DWC so would it be possible for those nutes to cover me through a coco and dwc grow ? Incase this info is relevant I’m using 10x 15w LED bulbs @2700k 1520 lumens each. thanks ! ps I posted a pic of the nutes im referring to, aswell as a few bud shots2 points

I do not feel as if the early defoliation's had any negative effect on the plants, I do feel that the delay in doing the last defoliation of the large fan leaves had a negative effect on the plants. The bottom buds did not fill out as much.2 points

Your buds don't look bad at all! Iv just finished a grow with EHG, nice and simple to use very straight forward I just followed the recommended amounts on the bottle as my Ec meter was broken and checked my ph regularly I'm sure you could dial it in much better with a working Ec meter. Training your plant well helps you get more grams, I wouldn't know if other nutes will guarantee more grams as Iv never tried but ye I'm happy with the EHG it does the job.2 points

i love how you defoliate the kak out of those plants !!!! so gona do the same next light flip!! great grow man!2 points

My vortex brewer never stops! Im always on the hunt for new soils to add to my teas and store bought amendments that are biologically alive. At the moment I'm making a tea a week and some have really blown me away!! Keep posted to see what works and maybe give me some tips on what has worked for you!1 point

In theory, yes. In practice, it's a lot trickier. Often LED's on boards are wired up in a certain way to achieve a specific voltage range. So for example on my QB's some diodes are in series and then in parallel. My voltage is around 50v for these QB's. Changing the diodes for different ones will change that and it may not work, plus it's going to be a lot of work. The power supplies are set for a specific voltage and I'm not sure you'd be able to adjust the voltage on those built in power supplies. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk1 point

Yeah, I think Hortimix may be cheaper. So rather just get some Hortimix then.1 point

Just some feedback on the COBs, they work well but the spread sucks, which is why quantum boards work out better, from a light distribution perspective. So if you're running cobs, I would suggest at least having some 100w chips. Check out my DIY threads regarding COBs. You'll need a lot of chips. Next thing is, those COBs, when running enough of them, NOT 'light' on electricity. A 100w Chinese COB will cost you around R100 - R150 from eBay, slap it at the bottom of a cpu cooler and off you go. Total cost under R200 for a 100w light. Personal opinion is that QBs are lighter on electricity, better spread and generally 'prettier' than the COBs. If you budget is super tight, COBs may be the way to go, but they come at cost due to higher draw. From a end result perspective, I can't say which is better, I have no complaints and product is comparable to 400W HID, which is what I ran previously. Good luck man.. @Jimmy-zthank you I’ve written that down as I wouldn’t of know how many parts per mill to use so start slow and move up. @CreXthanks for your reply and you have some great thought I will start a journal once I figure out this forum I did I fact take weekly pics of my last grow but I’ll rather start a fresh one here and reply to your last 2 questions, im using 10x Luceco 15watt LED, 2700K, 1520 lumens, and I cut the plastic bulb part off, so 150watts and 15200 lumens in that small space and yes I have this other side of my closet that I will be using with a scrog (will make a scrog coco diary ) I’ll send a pic so you can get a feel for the space. It’s dimensions are 76cmL 54cmB 1.7m H. In the pic is the revegging plant I have my screen ready for the scrog just waiting for her to reveg it will take about 3 more weeks and the baby cheese plant is an experiment with wick passive hydro i would like to apologize as I haven’t figured out how to reply as a pose to making a whole new comment.1 point

I used it in my very first soil & autopot grow. Works very well & you can add a lot before it burns your plants. I would suggest getting a ppm/ec meter to properly monitor your nutrient concentration if you dont already have one. Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk1 point

Wow that tea looks like low tide by the ocean lol. I've been helping some people for a few years to get their gardens up to par. By that I mean digging, planting, building compost heaps, making teas building greenhouses etc, on a lower scale. I've made tea from kelp we picked up on the beach. That alone just makes the plants grow on its own. But fauna and flora gets weird at some beaches..... I will go up to the mountain this weekend and find some good healthy grow areas and get soil from there for the tea. Sent from my FIG-LX1 using Tapatalk1 point

It's all about the diodes, Samsung make some great ones. Lm561c, lm301b, lm351h are all very popular diodes. Any of those will do fantastic in terms of growing and they all have high efficiency. I wouldn't bother with the CFLs. For clones they're fine, once the plant gets bigger you really want to move away. They're extremely inefficient actually, the power consumed and what the plant gets out of the light isn't great. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk1 point

Evening, Yeah that sounds very similar to what I'm using. Keep us updated on the results please. For PM I'm trying the ph swing- dose with acidic and then alkaline. Only started so jury is still out on efficacy. For nasties with more than 2 legs... Currently using a clove mix. Pretty good results on spidermites thrips and aphids. Cloves, garlic and Italian herbs (rosemary, thyme) with soap as wetting agent. It's cheap to make, pretty safe to use/biodegradable and plants don't suffer. I have used a peppermint oil spray previously, it didn't have the desired effect on mites. The clove and tobacco mix is also pretty good. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk1 point

Hi, I came across this natural product that grow operations use in the US. Consting of essential oils and a couple of easily obtainable chemicals as seen below. What do you guys think? Have you used essential oils before as pest control and or for mildew? I have mixed a batch and will keep you posted Sent from my VTR-L09 using Tapatalk1 point

Quite a few of us yes. Perhaps join the CT club, here: https://www.420sa.co.za/clubs/3-cape-town/ I'm using a Bestva LED that looks pretty much like the 1000W one you posted, that + 2 x 100-100W CFLs and 1 * a 100W LED spot-light (super DIY stuff). I could certainly do with a lot more light, but the results have not been bad so far. If you have no choice I think you'll be ok with what you have for now. I.e. don't stop while you wait for a perfect or even good setup. Perhaps consider going direct to flower for faster turnaround on the first grow, may also be better for less light. Which is not to say that I disagree with anything said above, its very good advice. I not sure I'd have got this LED lamp had I been on the forum longer, though perhaps I'd never have started growing if I had to wait to pay 3* more. Personally I'm also looking at what I need to do to improve my light situation, I'd love a better LED setup. I'm just saying I think you can grow for meds so long while sorting things out. BTW once you get to 30 posts, send a message to @ 420sa and ask to join the seed/clone exchange club. I may have some extra clones in the next few weeks as it happens. So just DM me a reminder if you are interested and I'll see what I can do.1 point

@PsyCLown thank you much. Uhm.. yeah about the budget and saving. I am a father of 3 and my wife recently lost her Job. the struggle is real. I dont think i am trusting that LED i have to be honest. but this is my opinion i guess. I have moved all my plants outside now. save about 4 seedlings. maybe i should hold up on the LED and use the one I have. I have learned that Soil make a Maaaaaaasive difference. having said that @CreX I might just possibly be interested in the HPS. sigh. I have no idea. anyone here from CT?1 point

So with rain being forecast and the weather being unpleasant in general I moved the girls into my old food trailer which I've repurposed into my flowering wagon for the 12 hours of darkness, and all the girls kicked into flowering mode over the last 3 days... Ive repurposed some old palisade fencing which I'm using for my raised beds... then then I took a cpl clones at half two this am as couldn't sleep and who doesn't need more plants...haha uk cheese far left, miss a row and its critical Kush hop over a row and its purple Trainwreck and far right the straggling WW that are still to root.... LOL No one seems to be interested in this, but for reference sake it is a cotton stainer, not good for plants. if it were a assassin bug it would be beneficial, as they hunt most pests, especially leaf hoppers & thrips. you see the shape of the cotton stainer's head & the red eyes? those are the indicators, whereas if it were an assassin bug it's head would be more similar shaped to below, & note its proboscis- moveable nose(poisonous & will bite humans):1 point

Day 97 / Day 45 of Flower (Midway through week 6 of flowering) So a very brief update, just on the one plant. My bagseed which @Master_G has temporarily named Tropicana FF - its fruity AF and the it looks as if you will get face fucked (FF) after smoking some with all the trichomes on the bud. I have no clue how long the Tropicana FF normally takes to flower, looks like a heavy indica so I will probably flush this weekend and monitor trichomes and harvest accordingly. I will probably use Florakleen to help with the flush. As far as I understand, it's basically an empty chelate (think of it like a claw) and binds to the nutrients to either make it unavailable to the plant and/or help push the nutrients out of the soil. I think most of my plants will be harvested around a similar time, so will most likely start flushing my plants around the same time. Will take a closer look this weekend. Bud is looking great and smelling superb. The Bruce Banner has some colour coming through too. Not even from the bottom (fattest) part of the main cola: To help give you an idea of the size of the other colas:1 point

Good morning all, In the interests of learning have a look at this ''motherbuffer''. First noticed some munching damage on the leaves, usually outdoors it's typical of a worm or grasshopper. Doubt whether its a common occurrence indoors. Didnt think much of it at first as grasshoppers are very difficult to stop outdoor. 2nd day noticed the damage had progressed...this is not a grasshopper!!! Investigated much closer, scanning every leaf from top to bottom and found this stealthy mofo neatly camouflaged in its little house underneath a fan leaf. They hide during the day when vulnerable and come out at night and munch away in peace and quiet. They can strip a lot of leaf matter in a very short amount of time. So beware and take note outdoor growers. Cheers Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk1 point
