Yeh its true, I think that big one was almost ready to become a ladybug. They love the aphids as well as spidermites (only pests i could observe them with) and the coolest thing about the larvae is that do not fly, so they just hang around the infested plant until the food source runs out. Thanks a lot man, I really need a better camera, and skillset for those National Geographic shots! Well said man, sounds like your compost heap is pumping out the chitin and frass. Those fruitchafers can cause a bit of nag when they pull into the weedplants, but I rarely find them on weed, they always going after some fruit tree by the looks of it. A bigger issue i found is their grubs eat roots, devastating for a small plant in a pot. I dont bother them though, they are not like locusts. Ladybird larvae will usually be around a aphid infestation, this year started off quite bad with aphids, so I have been lucky spotting and observing them. Try growing a rose bush in a pot if you still not having pests for the ladybirds, roses are pest magnets. Ladybuggos prefer to breed and lay eggs nearby a source of water, they need nectar from smallish flowers (like yarrow,fennel,blackeyed-susans, etc) and then off course they need some pests to eat. Sorry for the late reply guys, hope errybody having a lekker holiday season! PS - Did you know? Ladybugs live between 2 to 3 years on average (in nature).2 points

So my new space is slowly developing and I have decided to pop some Aurora Kush seeds. I popped 8 into jiffies and 8 popped out2 points

You got a lot of inner foliage stripping to do. I'd start now and do it a little at a time until February. Strip at least the bottom half meter1 point

1st bash @ selective breeding... So I have chosen the 1st male that's part of my breeding plan. He's too stinky to ignore or look any further at his brothers. The other male I need I will probably choose in early flower. Male 1: Electric Watermelon x 9lb Hammer Male 2: Pineapple Skunk. The 4 chosen ladies that I want to knock up are: Gorilla Girl Sweet Orange Cookies Sherbs Wedding Cake Amnesia CBD I have taken 2 cuts of each strain so each gentleman has a set of ladies of his own.1 point

Update time... The 2 remaining Vanilla kush cookie ladies are doing awesome. The outdoor lady is surviving our hectic heat and crap weather like a champ. The indoor girl is developing some really nice woody, spicy vanilla-ish terps on the stems- a similar scent on the buds would be really interesting. They still receiving seagrow, molasses and AACT nutrient wise with rainwater from the Jojo in between. Did a enriched compost topdressing on the greenhouse ladies to add to the organics and aid water retention a bit. So far so good. Cheers vir eers.1 point

Chiming in late, but hey have to congratulate on how you grow, that's maximizing your sq/m with budz Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk1 point

Morning Greenfingers, The Giant Cookie Birds are growing well and are by far the most voracious plants in the greenhouse. Got some serious terps coming off the sticky stems, from a sharp, herby, zambucky scent on one plant to a spicy cinnamon and sandlewood on another. The outdoor lady has survived some nasty weather and still looks awesome. I'm feeding the outside girls same as greenhouse. Seagrow and molasses in between their tea's Topdressed all the plants last week with an enriched compost mixture to add organic volume and help with water retention. If the stem terps are anything to go by, the buds will be really tasty. Here's to quiet optimism. Cheers1 point

@Meepmeepza Judging by the response theirs obviously something wrong with that soil maybe it's too acidic or something I don't know haven't used it. As a beginner rather get the recommended soil so you don't end up pulling out your hair when funny things happen...1 point

I must agree here. Start with quality soil and seeds from your first grow. I am busy on my first grow and nearly got disheartened by seeds that didn't germinate. @Mambawana and @PsyCLown among others steered me in the right direction and I have a happy plant well into flower (growing in a very confined space). You don't want to struggle from the get go with inadequate soil. Would make growing more of a chore than a rewarding hobby.1 point

Woah, the larvae looks larger than the ladybug itself. Never knew that is what they looked like, pretty cool. So they too eat pests, not just the ladybugs?1 point

Sometimes when we think we're helping, we actually do more harm. Nature had it covered long before we arrived. Very cool to see the ladybird larvae in action, although I have personally never seen them before. Our compost pile is crawling with fruit chafers and all kinds of anthropods.(thanks for the frass) Also leaving some of the celery to flower out, hope to attract some ladybirds as well. Thanks cannabist for your attitude towards what it means for us to get the real FIRE genetics to work with. If your supplier can order from empire breeding company, we don't need to look any further. Expensive but they stock the best of the best. Proper breeding stock. They even stock Loki's gear. On Friday I will be placing an order for a pack of darkhorse genetics original Bruce banner. It's the real deal. Too bad you don't stock their strawberry diesel f2, Bruce's mama. On average a 10pack is providing like 4 keepers and a choice of good studs. All my info is coming from private grower friends in the states that have become cannabis celebs since I've known them. These are the lines they currently working and the offsprings are off the chain. They not into breeding to sell seeds. They in it to be ahead of all the huge cultivation centres that are monopolizing their market. Just to avoid confusion I need to state that I haven't breed any seeds as yet in my growing career. I've come a long way as a grower, grown in many different styles. Since legalisation I started uping my game cos I love having 20 different strains to smoke. Variety is the spice of life. Run after run has always been about improving yield and quality. Nowadays things run on autopilot for the most part. I'm honestly tired off buying seeds and being disappointed with the mediocre results. My friends think I'm crazy and that my quality is up there but I know in my heart it's nothing compared to the real FIRE. It's lacking those exotic terps. So I've decided that I want to start making some seeds just for personal hunting and maybe share it with other local breeders if they interested. The one thing I'm proud off is my grow set up. I now have the facility in place to make seeds, pheno hunt and if need be, take seed making into proper breeding. Who knows where this leads too. Sorry for yapping guys... Peace1 point

I only read your post properly now, ye im keen. Could work something out to bring in seeds this club wants at cost, piggybacking of our normal orders to help with genetic diversity vs cost of seeds in SA. Or just each contribute to shipping. Long term goal then for me would be to sell local stable genetics which the community breeds. Personally never selectively bred though super keen to after watch some of the vids. Def going to start after back from December holiday. One of my cats just killed of half of my outdoor seedlings! Not sure if you guys have seen seedfinder.eu, on my phone so hard to find the link im looking for on their site but it's great for research. Let me know what you guys think.1 point
