  1. @DankFiend Thanks for sharing buddy. Automatic temperature control - the most important part of this exercise, does your aircon have an auto ON function when power is interrupted? If yes then all you need is a temperature controller with probe and a contactor. My veg room climate control My flower room climate control which has a few extra safeties to avoid high temperature scenarios in case of aircon failure etc. This pic is a bit old and have since done a few more upgrades. I think its time I share my full grow set-up so I'll start a new grow diary next week when I cut clones and flip with all my rooms including breeding chamber showing everything from climate control to drainage, how I dampen exhaust fan sound with acoustic boxes and any other little things that will be helpful to those that are as hungry as I am to take things to the next level.

  2. Okay update time! The ladies have pushed through the stretch and have started forming budsites. Will be doing the last pyrol neem spray and then it's onward to harvest! I flipped them on the 28th of December, so this day 16 in bloom and I think they are doing alright

  3. @Dank - been lurking and thinking - i joined 420sa to put my head straight in a 20 year landrace journey. Had one Tutor of sorts but the relationship was very stingy. So I kept to myself to play with growing my own and learning what I could to do extraction. I am with other growers here to make some sort of effort to change my own knowledge, but also to see if I can be instrumental in rediscovering DP in a form we can pip it as an Mzanzi original. So I am keen to test any work that can be done outside. I was looking at a refinement of my own crop I seeded from my own stock this year and got swiped by the weather in a moerse hail storm. Never the less I am of again on new seed planted, but also receiving some help from kzn club members. Plan to look at my own results to see if I can isolate any useful growth for promotion to a pool of possibles from other growers. I am a sativa grower but still have a lot to learn. Keen to pick up any tasks this group needs help with. And thank you for this forum you started. I am not going anywhere in this crazy world and I am keen to see RSA feature in its position in the cannabis nations - why not?!!? Thinking of hooking up a strain hunt in the local hills with locals to see if DP is still on the menu out there as most are growing chronics now. Will see if Ms Kunene is up for it too?

  5. The idea behind breeders sending out tester seeds to forum members is not a new one, it is how I got started getting some decent genetics back in the day, on International forums. Breeders send out free tester seeds of their breeding to get a better understanding of the results. The more plants we as breeders can see get grown out, the better we can understand our strains and get valuable feedback from community members. For the early days I think it could work like this: Breeders can let me know about any potential seed drops that they are planning, this is just a formality, after this I will give you the thumbs up to post about your "new drop" of seeds, post will then get stickied here until all available testers are sent out. The breeder agrees to send the beans free of charge to the tester, the breeder can pay for courier or arrange with the tester to pay the shipping fees, whichever way they decide. The reason for this being that we do not sell any Cannabis seeds here in the group, for now at least, until laws are in place. The tester agrees to do a grow diary here on the 420SA forum under the https://www.420sa.co.za/index.php?/forum/92-local-genetics/ section in the main forum. This will help showcase the breeders work grown by different individuals using different techniques of growing. Some testers might decide to just take the seeds and not bother with doing a diary, if this is the case, breeders can decide whether or not to send them free tester seeds again. Diaries do not have to be updated every week, but a start to finish grow with at least all growth phases. Testers that keep their diaries updated more regularly (like once a week or more) will be favored by the breeders. THE BREEDERS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DECIDE WHO THEY SEND SEEDS TOO. That is the final rule set to ensure nobody tries to exploit breeders here on the 420SA forum. If a breeder is not sending you tester seeds, consider becoming a real part of the community and I am sure your luck will change. Keep breeding and growing 420SA! PS - Any ideas, advice or potential problems feel free to discuss it here on this thread. Ready to start rolling out some testers slowly slowly. Also running this past you @420SA , just jotted down what I was thinking, will update and edit as necessary.

  6. Hi @420sake , thanks a lot for posting! Its great to hear that you are busy with the DP's, surely one of our nicest here in SA, but like you mentioned, need to see what happening in dem hills these days. The idea behind the breeders group was to hopefully get some dank collaborations going, share some beans, and ofcourse breed some beans! I have been a bit busy moving house, but should get more time to spend here on group and 420SA forum. There must be lots of members looking after their DP strains, sure you guys could work together and isolate some killer genetics, as well as improve selection etc. Sorry to hear about that hail storm man, best of luck with the next selection!

  7. That is a swell idea. What is so nice about that area is almost no maintenance required. Pop a bean at grows. Perfect climate. I really do miss the midlands. Found a little spot here that as you walk into the valley, the vegetation changes and climate changes, and reminds of Natal. Good luck and pop those beans.

  8. No, it had nothing to do with that, we are not arguing, you made this statement : ” By no way is this better then having an aircon and dehumidifier it's just the most cost efficient way. I've seen 2nd hand units go for as cheap as 2k on gumtree. “ Which I specifically referenced (you can see), I merely stated that my aircon has both functions and does away with the need to have a dehumidifier and aircon running at the same time. I prefer to drop my temps drastically in the dark cycle, still keeping my RH in the 55+- mark. So I’m able control my climate fine, I’ve never had a case of powdery mildew (I thought I did once, It landed up being masses of trichomes ) or mold. Edit: I had both machines and eventually flogged the dehumidifier as the aircon was more than adequate.

  9. Ideally you wanna get vermicompost... Jamies Garden Shop used to sell it, not sure if he does still.... Then there is this place http://www.wurmbosch.co.za/getmodule.php?id=listitems.php Im sure you'll be able to collect Im sure the doublegrow bags would be good for your AACT's. You could used both EWC and mushroom compost. The more beneficial bacteria and fungi the better

  10. January is a swak month for most of us puzzlers. Fingers crossed for your upgrades. Glad things are still decent in the garden and can't wait to see the results when you reach the finish line. Here in durban we have been going through a heatwave the last couple of weeks. Couple that with HID lighting and my veg room took a beating but I managed to push through and get them into the flower room. Strangely my outdoor gals have seemed unphased and are pushing along like champs.

  11. Grow Room Setup I am resetting my room to make better use of the equipment and space that I have, and to get it ready for me to pass on. So the story is I need to get the room humming before I go away - and someone else looks after the place. Anyway, before getting started I thought this would be a good opportunity to show my baseline - which is to say, where the room is it is at the moment. Hopefully it can help those starting out get some ideas and (more importantly for me) allow me to get advice from the community on how to improve the space and fix the problems I need to resolve in the coming months. I was going to start a new thread, but as this is meant to be a year long diary, I decided it belongs here. The first rule of my grow room - and it is really the only rule of my grow room - is everything to do with electricity happens above waist level, anything to do with water and such happens below. But as I am not good with rules (and they are not always possible to follow), there are exceptions. The room is basic. It has concrete floors which is good because it means I don’t care about spillage and such (which outweighs the bad). it is also untidy and you can usually find a nipped joint and empty nip bottles laying around (I need to improve on that as well) In summer temperature management can be an issue in the room, but I now have lots of goodies to mitigate high temperatures. [1 x plastic (low noise) 6 inch inline fan; 1 x standard metal (noisy) 6 inch inline fan; 1 x 4 inch inline fan (only used when I need to pump cool air into the tent on very hot days); 3 x rotating fans; 1 x Aircon (so far, hardly ever used)] There are two tents now in the room and a small box for cloning and germinating. And between the tents there is dividing cupboard that use as a counter top. In the left side of the cupboard is nutes, and in the the right I keep dry resources, tools, and electrical gear. I have blocked off one end of the counter with a partition (with spillages in mind) - so that on the far side of the counter I have my main power strip. i also keep a small fire extinguisher on the floor in case. The smaller tent is old and fucked - its dimensions are 1.2 x 0.7 (its also not very tall). It has a 600w light inside a cool tube (the ballast can be turned down as well). The metal 6inch inline fan is in this tent. I was exhausting out the window - but the noise levels compromise the stealth of the operation so I need a new solution. [this is where I was exhausting through, now used for the aircon when I turn it on - which is almost never] Behind the tent is is small table for the ballast and power strip for fans, timed lights, and such .For now I am not using this tent but the idea is that it is veg tent. (Although I can also flower in there while the Scrog in the other tent is filling up). Below is tent 2 The second tent is 1.5 x 1.5. I have a Fluence VYPRx in there, but I might try a Gavita 1000w next. The plastic inline fan is in this tent. Like the other tent, at the back is a table for the ballast and power stip. I also keep a reservoir here. (Although when I do RDWC, the control bucket is kept on the side of the tent). I hit a hole into the wall so I exhaust into the next room where air is finally blown through a carbon filter. The room is in a back section of the house used for storage at the moment, so smell is not too much of an issue . Any advice, tips, observations? What I want to figure out: Automate temperature management Water chilling for DWC Improve stealth by lowering noise levels (this means, amongst other things, a better solution for exhausting than out the window for the veg tent) come up with schedule for perpetual grow starting in april with plan for automated feeding. finish clone and bonsai mother box (add fan and drainage solution)

  12. The cheapest(initial + running costs) way to maintain okay enough conditions that should keep you PM free from most strains would be to use a portable aircon. The exhaust of the aircon that blows hot air which is supposed to be ducted outside comes in handy at light OFF at increasing temperatures so that the aircon side can remove humidity. This way doesn't allow the humidity to be in the 50's constantly at Lights OFF but does enough to keep humidity from reaching 70%. Tried and tested no mold or PM. By no way is this better then having an aircon and dehumidifier it's just the most cost efficient way. I've seen 2nd hand units go for as cheap as 2k on gumtree. All the luck and hope you ride this wave all the way to the shore.

  13. I used peroxide during lights off and milk during lights on and it only managed the PM but never took it away. I have now upgraded circulating fans and added a dehumidifier and I haven't seen any PM since A friend of mine is fighting PM with sulfer and he won the battle. I tried thes silica thing but it messed with my PH so I stopped using it

  14. Use to add silica to my waterings in veg for purpuses you described. Maybe I stopped because of ph adjustments [emoji6], the milk/water works much beter than the peroxide for me. Noticed 2 leaves last night again but just sprayed them again. Much much less than when I used peroxide. I'm sure the milk will take care of it within the next week. Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk

  15. The foam/biofilm is only an indicator for me, some of my brews have foam and some don't. Important signs are the fresh/earthy/foresty/mushroom smell and in my case with koipond water slightly fishy. The brew before (breakdown brew) stood for a few hours without air/circulation and went sour and stinky. The anaerobic bacteria made it smell bad and that is what you dont want to give your plants. That brew got chucked. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

  16. Had to feed and do my weekly grow room maintenance, so got some pictures of the OG Kush and Chedawg. hint of a small issue with one of the blue cheese, but it might just be the effect of topping off with water too early. Will resolve I suspect when I make new Rez. Back row, from right to left...OG Kush (clone of the plant on the extreme left) , Chemdawg, OG Kush, Chemdawg, OG Kush (2 plants are much earlier in their flowering cycle). Front row, blue cheese.. Below is a shot of the chemdawg colas from a few days ago

  17. @GGG Now comes the tricky part, lowering the lights out humidity somehow. Without a dehumidifier or ac it is quite difficult. Add a heat source (heater, etc) in the lung room as PM prefers cool moist conditions, so by warming things up you emulating the lights ON conditions when your grow lights are warming up the room and making conditions a little less conducive. Prior to me getting proper climate control I found a few tricks that worked okay as a make a plan. One was to exhaust air from my veg room into the flower room at lights OFF. I'm really glad that the spray is already showing its working. I will definitely try it on my outdoor gals close to the end of the season when PM always pays a visit.

  18. @Mambawana, il keep you posted on the pistols. My temp meter shows highest and lowest and I assumed that the high and low humidity goes hand in hand with temps. As you said and to my surprise the high humidity is when lights are of, thanks for that piece of wisdom. Now I can see if I can illuminate that abit. PM seems to have died down after@CreX recipe was used, will keep track and post progress. What I like about this local forum and 420 is the advise, its relative to where I stay. Appreciate this platform [emoji2936] Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk

  19. Ok. My brother in law has a farm near the Midlands in kzn. I'm thinking of doing something similar to the pic above. We go there every 2-3 months to ride dirt bikes, some of the most beautiful natural scenery I've ever seen. Was thinking of clearing a 25m squared area and drop some seeds. Then check on them every time we go back to ride.

  20. @GGG Hope the spray helps and rids you of that shitty PM. Quite a few guys here have said they used that mixture with good success. I'm interested in seeing if the spraying has any effects on any white pistils cos I've been told by guys here that spraying doesnt turn white pistils brown and personally over the years I've seen just plain water brown pistils so this will be like physical proof for someone like me that's still sceptical about the pistils being happy...

  21. Sprayed some milk/water and let's hope for the best, first pic the DP and no PM, actually only the GWS, waiting for spray to dry out. Interesting the different hight of the plant doesn't effect the bud size [emoji848] I'm between 30-50cm, 3rd pic. Overall good so far. Veg room lekker crowded [emoji39] Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk

  22. Highest temp last couple weeks was 32 and lowest 20, in general its 22-29 depends on outside temps, I replace ample air light on(night) and of. Humid in Capetown you know but there are worst places I hear[emoji39]. No aircon/humi. Yeah busy mixing up some milk/water now Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk

  23. I thought that was a very low dose yes. I can't get my hands on humic acid ( any brand name or just those in the brown glass bottle?), can I start just with the milk/water? Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk
