Aweh 420SA. Been scoping this thread and thought I'd chime in with my 2c. Pardon the disjointedness and my French pls. I believe in the bigger scheme of life there is a price to pay, bigger for some and smaller for others. Economically some can weather this better than others. There are some really sad things happening all over. General. The thing that irks me is that there are some really ''special'' people who have no inkling of the concept of ''unity'' or ''community''. They languidly browse around in stores or stand in groups at the malls talking shit - justpossibly spreading this life threatening pathogen. The lockdown isn't lekker but its there to protect everyone, stay the fuck at home, you could infect others because you can't control yourself or your boredom. Hello....!!! Where is natural selection or karma, can I nominate those mofos pls. Work related. We are on the other side of the coin...the ugly side.... Our industry never stopped working, (blessing in disguise maybe) but the usual high stress environment has evolved into something else, it has become a monster of a thing. Stress, worry, fear, but we do the best we can under very trying circumstances. I can see it in my colleagues' faces after shift, the nervous laughs, the unfunny jokes, its awfull. Shit man, we have ''control measures'' coming out our ears, the shitty smell of IPA hanging in the air- too scared to light a smoke for fear of an explosion..hahaha.[emoji3]. Never want to see or smell sanitizer ever again in my life. Then there's this shit....Last week in an ops meet we discuss some concerning issues with the client, we were frankly told ''do you job, you are just service providers''.....cold hearted pos, never wanted to fuck someone up so bad. On the personal side. My children stay with my ex, being involved in a high risk industry it was decided that they shouldn't visit weekends or the holiday, to mitigate any infection risk. Whattsapp and phonecalls only go so far. Last week I sat outside the gate at their house and chatted to my sons through the bars like a convict, because I would not be able to forgive myself if I possibly infected them. I understand that sacrifices have to be made, we all have to make them, but it's Fuckedup and I don't have to like it. We all have our part to play with this common threat. I would've preferred to stay at home. David Attenborough is cool. Heres my version. Mankind with all its intelegence, refuses to learn from mother nature. As a species we must exist in equilibrium with our enviroment or we will become extinct. Have a good one and stay safe. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk2 points

I've always been hoping and steering to a universal change in perspective and I really hope this has more posetive impact on the big picture than negative. Usually I don't like to quote people, but here's two from, what I would concider some rather insperational people. I hope it brings good energy and provides some motivation. "Though the problems of the world seem increasingly complex, the solution remains embarrissingly simple." - Bill Mollison "Instead of controling the environment for the benefit of the population, perhaps we should control the population to ensure the survival of our environment." - David Attenborough. Words will never seem like enough if your not willing to rise to the occasion and there's no excuse for laziness.2 points

My prayers go out to those that have no more money to buy food to feed their families and no way of earning any income atm. The real worrying part of this lockdown for me is the amount of people that are 'not' on lockdown. I'm seeing lots of people still doing their own thing and not respecting social distancing at all. All this that we sacrificing, let's hope it's not for nothing. @Totemic I like the suggestion on planting some vegetables.2 points

The question should not be who are good breeders, but what environment do you have for growing and what genetics would best fit that environment AND suit your palate for quality of high effect and other requirements. Breeding is often a trade off. If you are growing outdoors its likely that you will not be able to run most indoor varieties because of powdery mildew, bud rot or some other problem like pests. If you have a perfectly controlled indoor environment then by all means go and buy from some good breeders to suit your tastes. Don't stagnate with buying one breeders stuff - you want to explore and educate yourself. Personally I don't run many modern hype weed. Very occasionally I will run something that is currently available to buy. But I'm a sativa lover and I don't like indica to get mixed in too often. Most of my seed stash I made myself or was gifted by friends. There are some breeder packs in there from places like Doc D, Cannabiogen, Ace Seeds but I'm not really growing those anymore. Last bunch of seeds I popped was all different landraces crossed to a Tom hill original haze male. Tried Senegal, Zambian copper, Malawi Gold, Mulanje Malawi, Punto Rojo, Ko Chang Thai, Hmong hill tribe Thai, Durban poison 70s, Zamal, golden tiger, flying dutchmen original haze. Just got to make friends with the right people and search the right stuff that you like and it will come eventually Golden Tiger x Tom Hills Original Haze1 point

Got some more pics for you @PsyCLown. Leaving the switch to after the weekend. Also bumped the EC up to 1.1 and running the LED at just below 200W. It was suggested to me to run at 160W during grow and flower but I want to see what the extra oomph will do. Honestly just kinda playing around.1 point

Now is a good time to plant root vegetables. Sweet potato, turnips, beetroot etc. You'll be thankful a stretch into the coming depression...their is no way the global economy is walking out of this alive. We are a generation that has been spared from global catastophe until now. We've only heard about world wars, epidemics, and the like. Well here's ours...busy taking its place in the history books right next to the likes of the spanish flu. If history is any teacher, this will be the hardest decade or more ahead we will face. As a family we are already a plane crash waiting to happen. It's only a matter of time before we run out of altitude. We were unable to fully prepare for the initial lockdown, never mind the extension, or the fallout after that. This is a 'Phoenix moment'...and out of these ashes, who knows what our world will look like. People may actually start appreciating each other again...1 point

Sweet brother shot for the info, plant is currently in darkness and I shall cut her down by tomoro or Saturday, Wrt the yield I am absolutely curious as to what it would be, ukim using 144watts of led, I have this white widow and the big bud auto which needs about 3 weeks more or so, dont have the slightest clue as to what the yield would be....any guess? Nice man, well done on that auto, looks like it's gona be a pretty big yield then? Hahah I hate procrastinating, but still it happens so often! If it's a straight indica and I know I don't have a lot to do I won't mind, but for the most part I don't enjoy not getting things done. About the dark period, I've done it like a hand full of times with outdoor plants, starting with a plant my buddy claimed as it was still growing under my care and came harvest time he almost insisted I did it with his plant. I couldn't say if it's really true as this is just info given to me, but what I can say is it will not do any harm at all. What I've heard is that it kickstarts the drying process and is a bit of a stress factor, you see as soon as we cut them down they should be hung in darkness, the reason for that is that some sugars and starches and things are more active and mobile in the plant during light periods, so the low temps and darkness will mimic the winter being in full motion, to get them to flower we shorten the day and prolong the light cycle mimicing what happens with the season in nature, so giving only darkness will almost be like forcing her to "finish" quiker, thinking theres no more grow time for her, and also if you let her go in the dark all dry that will also obviously help with getting her to "finish" what shes doing.1 point

What's up Greg, I hope this will help put your mind at ease. I dropped 4 seeds on 27 Feb, all into bleached jiffies soaked in distilled water, in a humidity dome under some nice strong CFLs and on a heat pad under a towel, humidity was between 90% and 95% and temps where 30 to 35°C. All took 1 day to break surface, except one. That one only broke surface 19 days later. In my notes I already declared that one a dud and replaced it, took another week or so for the cotyledons to open. I'll tell you that lady had me rolling around at night wondering what I can do, but all she needed was time... now I just have one extra plant! Some seeds just take their time and one thing I have learnt from popping seeds is don't do anything funny, don't even try do things you think will be good for it if you're not sure it will help, most seeds or seedlings die because of over caring. Goodluck, bud!1 point

I took a quick look over the gemmacert website, it looks like it follows the same route as most these hand held analyzers, uses a database to compare similarities, doesn't test specific product, the problem arises when samples are off of the expected norm, such as a landrace, creates a higher potential for error1 point

The problem is a lot of people don't seem to know what makes a good breeder. They think that throwing together good looking cuts and doing some S1 is what makes a good breeder, "Looks fire so it must be a great breeder" on the other side there is the "Oh, this guy is running classic heirlooms, he must know what he is doing". The real good old school breeders are actually typically the guys in the US who were trading cuts in the underground long before any of the dispensaries started showing up. There are a lot of good podcasts out now by highly respected breeders, and just listening to them discuss the source of their cuts will get you in tune with who is really doing good work out there - and give some insight into the breeders which are publicly praised but were shady fucks in the industry who screwed over other breeders. People see hype more than they do anything else. There's also unfortunately a lot of people still stuck in the 90s, thinking that breeders who were putting out hype strains back then must still be doing good in the game. And because South Africa was quite limited in its exposure to the US underground breeding scene, not a lot of growers here are actually aware of the 'real OGs'. The problem here is that we see European genetics as superior, thanks mostly to the fact that they were the ones who controlled the foreign genetics market here for decades. Look at SkunkVa from Lucky Dog Seeds, that dude was part of the group of travelling 'dead heads' who basically just followed The Grateful Dead around America, and in that community you had some of the best growers of that time sharing cuts between each other, and creating fucking legendary strains. SkunkVA is known for his Chem '91 cut ( worth listening to how it came to be: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zizcd3O92ps ) - but there is very little interest locally in these guys who originated classic cuts. If you're looking for quality breeders that have a good balance of old school but without being stuck in the past look at: - Riot Seeds - Archive - Lucky Dog (he almost exclusively works with his Chem cut though, so not much variety) - Bodhi - Duke Diamond etc There's a lot of other guys doing really good work and still actually breeding with males and females and not just seed making (silvering fems), but the above are some of the more respected guys who typically have the best connections to original cuts. With the Chem '91 mentioned above, SkunkVA himself has said majority of people claiming to be working with the cut don't actually have it (and its his cut). So one can't simply just look at a lineage or cut and take it at face value. To find the best breeders, listen to the originators of legendary cuts and see who they vouch for. You'd be surprised by how small the list really is. Granted my list is a little US leaning, but that's honestly where I see most of the quality coming from - and it makes sense given that the new legal infrastructure there offers such a good platform for breeding development Locally, I do like the work that Jay does. He has an interest in heirlooms, but isn't afraid to throw in some killer genetics from more 'hyped' breeders like OG Rascals (a personal favourite if you're into OG lines). As for which strains I've grown that I liked the most... My favourite strains haven't typically come from the "best breeders" and in some cases were even from dudes whose breeding practices are hated by 'real breeders' - Colin from Ethos has what is considered some terrible breeding methods, but the flower (assuming it doesn't herm) can still be really satisfying to grow if you're doing it for bag appeal or flavour. It's been difficult to get high quality breeders genetics here, so most of the strains I'm looking forward to running have only just made their way into my collection, but I'm definitely looking forward to my: Archive, Dungeon's Vault, Cannarado, Swamp Boys, Thug Pug Just give this a watch before you buy more Dutch genetics (addresses both Reeferman and Sensi mentioned by Chris above):1 point
