Purple comes from one of three things, in order of occurance: 1. Mg deficiency - feed epson salts. Half a tsp per liter. 2. Consistant low temps below 16 degrees. 3. Genetics, although this is rarely the case. I will add that with purpling as bad as you have it, you might not be able to correct it. I would add some Mg and see what happens. Try to not pH adjust your water, especially rain water. Since you are in organics. You may be causing the lockout. Let the soil manage pH. It's only in coco or hydro that you adjust pH imo.

As far as plant variation. I supplied F4 genetics and regulars at that. That alone made it difficult to judge even for myself that knows the line very well. The next growoff I sponsor, I will be providing feminized S1 seeds. That will level the playing field and give more consistancy to the pheno issue.

I had to make a decision as I simply cant water her twice or 3 times a day. She got too big for this pot in organics, and more damage is being caused because of the frequent watering, and pH issues. I will run her again in the ground or in coco, but she still has way too long to go, plus minus 6 weeks. This also is a good stress test. I doubt she will hermi from the transplant as her root ball wasn't damaged, but let's see. She displayed no transplant shock, and is already after 3 days looking much better. I wont be using this white pot again unless I bury it. I dont like the algae that it caused. Algae robs the roots of oxygen. And third day after transplant...her leaves already pulling up.

About day 45 of flo. I also took a budshot of each of the 4 different pheno's. They are flowering slowly but I hope to get a good sativa smoke from these ladies.

Hello The biggest reason you will see the stems go hard is through lack of root space and nutrients. The stems going purple and woody is from the plant absorbing nutrients from the stem to use further up in the plant for new growth. The nutrient that has the biggest affect is phosphorous and then second nitrogen. A stem that has gone woody will not go back to being supple ever again. You will have to monitor stems further up the plant that are still supple to see if they go purple and woody then your condition is worsening. It's also important that I mention that some plants can get purple stems or purple striped stems without going woody and this is more of a genetic predisposition to accumulation of anthocyanin and not a nutrient absorption problem. In your pics above it looks like the former above mentioned explanation.

We ran 2 crosses this season. They were chopped down a couple of weeks ago and dried. We have a few of each cross a couple weeks into veg. Thought we would share this little test with 420sa. Busting open these buds and I'm reminded of why we chose these gals for the breeding run... Let the hunt begin...

Hi Start of week 3 of flower (from first signs of flower) 3rd time I have to defoliate and hope fully the last. Top dressed with rock dust and FPJ, to really push my P & K. With are highly available for the plants. Add water Soluble calcium and water soluble potassium. Having a bit of powdery mildew but mixed up some of the latic acid bacteria with OHN which is Oriental herbal nutrient, used to provide plants and soil microorganisms with micronutrients, which may optimize their resilience to environment stresses . OHN is a mixture of edible aromatic herbs extracted with alchohol, fermented with brown sugar. Used to discourage the growth of anaerobic, potentially pathogenic microbes. Herbs long recognized by many ancient cultures as having prebiotics properties include fresh ginger, garlic, angelica root etc. Then, keep it shelf stable with a bit of brown rice vinegar 1:1000 . Took some really strong and healthy clones of the prized cookies pheno and GG#4 x gsc , about a week and half ago.

The only time I had issues with soil was when I did not PH my water / feeds, once I started to PH my water / feeds in organic soil I did not have any issues. Even with organic soils which are buffered I still like to and recommend one PH their water / feed first. If the airflow / higher temps do not help, I'd also say give some Epsom Salts / CalMag and see if that helps.

Threw 12 of each strain into some coco in solo cups. For simplicity purposes they will be called ASM and WCSM respectively. Early seed inoculation time. Trying out some trichoderma at this early stage for the 1st time.

Well straight up... The rules weren't hard to follow. You gave warnings and still persons did not comply and that did suck... The competition needs to maybe have noob catagory and a "best newcomer" award, but needs to be more suited for experienced growers looking to challenge themselves. There are quite a few breeders on the site that I am sure will love to exhibit their genetics as the staple genetic for a grow off so maybe offer this to some of the local breeders... Give us an amount of seeds you need per grow off, and I'm sure guys will come to the party. Potentially a small buy in for serious contestants to compete for the main prizes , and consolation prizes for other entries that don't buy in.

High guys Last year's Indoor growoff, in my opinion, went relatively well. It was ultimately plagued by a number of issues that prevented it from being a success though. With what we have learn't from last year's indoor growoff I'd like to get your guys input on how we can iron out the issues and get it to run more smoothly. I would really like to keep the growoffs going annually but the amount of effort that was put in wasn't matched by participation and co-operation. It takes a lot to organise a comp of this kind, if the amount of effort that is put in isn't matched by participation then it just isn't worth the effort. Here are my thoughts on what didn't go well last year: People mainly struggled to stay in line with the rules and procedure. With big sponsors on board we had to lay out a procedure and rules, some disagreed with it but I felt it was necessary nor difficult to follow. To those that participated, were the rules too difficult to follow? How can they be improved? There were 2 sponsors who did not honour their prizes. Green Leaf Organics went, and still is, AWOL. Then Sustainable Village SA did not honour their prize. The distribution of seeds actually didn't go too badly, I feel we executed it pretty well. On the other hand many of those who received the seeds didn't actually participate. It may be best if we allow a diversity of genetics but this immediately taints the legitimacy of the competition to some extent. I'm of the opinion that if we don't have the same cultivar, the growoff isn't worth it. I know that even with the same cultivar the variety of phenos can be diverse, especially with a cultivar that is not fully stabilized but it just keeps things fair. There are more points and I will add them in due course. The point is to get this discussion going in the mean time. Would love to hear input from you guys

Hi guys, I learned alot on @420SA the past year and just love the idea that it's local. I'm not sure if it's PH or temps but growth is not happening. Growing in soil ( 1st time and loving it) and much to learn still. My temps range fron 20-30 in veg room and I think it's the low side of the temps that can cause the purple, so the rain water is PH 7-7,1 and I brought it down to 6,3. My in-line fan is on permanently so I thing when lights are of the heater can't keep up with the air being sucked through the room, but il connect the fan to the digital temperature thing tomorrow. Definitely is the most the rewarding plant to grow and has really sparked something, I am planning to grow some veggies at my mom's place as well....getting back to the good stuff, she was drying for 5 days until the smaller branches snapped instead bend and the buds had a crunchy feel, trimming was quite tedious but I was so excited to determine the yield of my first ever plant, she yielded a total of 99g of these frosty beautiful nugs, the buds are dense and firm to the touch and covered in trichs. The big bud should be coming down in a week or 2 depending on trichomes, I have decided to wait until I see some sort of amber before I start to flush I think I did a good job on the trim lol they look good to me.....I have kept all of the trim in a ziplock bag and left in the freezer, will collect trim from the other plant and process it into something, seem some kewl hash making videos on youtube so would like to experiment on that. I agree, a variety of strains makes things difficult. We noticed an issue with the different pheno's in the indoor grow off already (possibly similar issues with the outdoor as well). If no limit on how many grows a person has done, I still feel a combination of post counts and duration the person has been a member on the forum for will be a good way to sift out a few people who in my opinion are less likely to stay as an active forum member and therefore continue to update their grow diary and compete with the competition. What I did find interesting was how many people struggled to germinate their seeds properly and could not compete or had to try get more seeds as they could not germinate seeds properly. So perhaps the person should at least have 1 grow done if this is something we want to try avoid. Keep in mind if a newbie wants to grow along with the more experienced members who are part of the grow off, there is no reason the newbie cannot purchase the seeds from the breeder and grow them as well - they just won't be part of the comp but can still gain the experience and learn from those in the competition as it's still the same seeds and pheno types and they can even germinate on the same dates etc. We can do a separate page to sign up, however if they stop being active on the forum it won't matter and I do not see how it differs all that much compared to someone reading the rules thread on the forum... Unless there were to be questions asked based on the rules so that they need to read the rules to be able to answer the questions and sign up for the competition. This still won't force someone to honour the rules and finish the grow but helps ensure people actually read the rules and there is confirmation that they have accepted the rules. As for a Telegram chat, I am concerned that people may start talking about their grows in the chat instead of sharing the info on the forum for the other forum members. In terms of communication if there is an issue, whether it is on Telegram, the forum via your mobile browser or Tapatalk it's all much of a muchness really. One thing I think could possibly be improved upon is the criteria of which the plants will be judged on. For example, if someone is only growing a single plant at the time (say in a 1.2m x 0.7m tent) they can allow that plant to get larger than someone who is growing a few plants in the same sized tent. Does this mean the person who has decided an entire tent on just one plant has a higher chance of having the "better" plant? Also a plant which has been trained vs one which has not had any training, the one with no training would generally end up taller than the plant which has been trained. Depending on the criteria of how a plant will be judged, the above could affect the outcome and skew how "fair" the outcome is.

We did have prizes for these categories in the indoor growoff. We didn't for the outdoor as very few people grow in hydro outdoors

After thinking about it for a bit I don't think there's a need to permit entrants based on growing experience. I think your suggestion about minimum post count will be the main qualifying criteria. Everybody can have a chance but their participation and ability to follow the rules needs to somehow be confirmed. Perhaps a form of application, a separate web page where the member can apply. On the page everything is laid out, how the comp works, the rules and all. At the bottom the person checks a box that says "I have read the rules and information and am willing to comply to participate" or something to that effect, and then they can apply. One thing we will have to do is be strict. Checking up on people's diaries all the time to make sure they update just isn't possible. Hence me giving up on that for the current outdoor growoff. If the participant fails to update their diary within the specified time frame they will be disqualified without warning. If they have a valid excuse the participant will also need to reach out to me or the mods if they aren't able to update. Perhaps we can setup a telegram group for all participants to make those kinda communications easier.

Mostly been using the FF Classic and rainwater after clones rooted and never had a problem before and never adjusted water either. Good advice so far ^^ Lets go into the color. Red stems can have a PH, environment (transplanting shock for example) or Temp issue. But in general you wait a week to decide what to do.. as long as the plant seems to grow normal. Red isn't the worst color to have on the stems. If you are violet and your plant is also growing very slowly you can have the above mentioned issues: Mag level low, Temp (in general low temp, around 16C), incorrect PH or simply humidity totally off. Other issues which can cause stem coloring are transplant shock, light burn and over watering. If your plant grows normal and just gets color on the stems.. i would guess first on genetics doing the change, just watch those babies very carefully each day. Over all picture of the plants are more on the healthy side, so wouldn't go in panic mode yet. Try to trace back if you caused it.. otherwise.. let it grow and see, would be my advice.

That is very unfortunate.. Next year there should be a buy in as was discussed.. Serious participants only. If you can not ensure more or less a full season grow with at least one plant. Sorry..

It has been great to watch my seeds being grown out. The biggest thing for me was the sheer amount of seeds that went out, and the tiny proportion that bothered to take part stood out. I personally was hoping for more, but it us what it is, and many were just after the seeds I guess.

Dope stuff looking forward to getting involved when I can. Need to pump out my current grow and one more to make the 5 grows, I rate I'll be ready then. Well, if I may input, I think it's way cooler to get sponsored gear and cool stuff over a cash prize. Although an entry fee does weed out (excuse the pun) those who are just taking the piss and aren't going to stick to rules a guidelines which I think is the entire point and joy of the competition. Doesn't have to be crazy. R50 is enough to deter most people.

Our Giant Cookie Bird lady started showing cloudy colours. Luckily not the whole plant, so she'll be harvested in stages depending on her trichs. The seasonal rainy weather and hot windless days in between does not bode well wrt budrot. Inspecting them every day now and cutting the bad pieces out before it spreads. Luckily its keeping to the smaller buds below the main colas. In two minds here, would prefer to push her for another week or two. But that idea is not without risk. We'll see how it goes. The Big Vanilla Kush lady fell gracefully over a 2 day period. Had some small spots of budrot showing up due to the seasonal rainy weather last week. Trichs were cloudy with a few ambers so wasn't going to push my luck too much. Whole house was scented with fruity sweetness during trimming...hahaha. Thanks @Dank for letting us grow your gear.

Another week, and not much change really. Buds are bulking up slowly but surely. She isnt wasting a cm of her branching, there is a mass of flowers everywhere.

I'm trying to get my second setup together, was gona buy a small tent for vegging and all that, but someone asked me why the hell I would get a tent smaller than the one I already have, so that stuck with me hahah now I'm trying to get everything bigger and upgraded, so the setup I have now will then be used only for veg, clone, seeds all the stuff that can happen under a 18/6 light cycle, might even pop a few autos in there. Then use the new setup for flower, sooo I don't wana take too many clones and all that then I have to spend money on caring for them, money I could've saved to buy everything I needed for a proper perpetual grow. From there will think about a 3rd small tent to keep a mother or two, but then I will need a bigger house!!!

I feel the issue with people receiving seeds and not participating happened more with the newer members. So perhaps have a minimum post count required in order to participate and/or they have to have been a member for x amount of weeks / months. Regarding sponsors and prizes, may be best that they send it to you and then it gets distributed from there - that way the prize is confirmed and secured.... Although this does create a slight issue with shipping as someone would need to cover shipping from you to the winner. Rules were pretty straight forward I felt, easy to understand. People are easily able to ask questions and refer back to the rules if need be... Maybe try and do a single consolidated thread with all rules and start dates etc. I recall something being split the last time and there were like 2 or 3 threads depending on what info you wanted - I think it was the prizes and rules were separate.

Mambawana is all about sharing my kzn brother, genetics, buds, gear... anything anyone in need needs... Just don't ever tell his wife she thinks he shares too much. Had to reassure her that I will NEVER share her...

ive been enjoying some tasters of the Bushfire OG this weekend and WOW!! extremely potent, some real sleep medication Amablue cheese 79 days in flower. I am seeing multiple signs of deficiencies (N & calmag)

The Bushfire OG came down and dried for 6 days Gave everything a dry trim last night, buds and yield are tiny but her extreme frostiness makes up for it! Ended up with 28G dry bud. I couldn't be happier!
