Alright. Just spent the better part of this afternoon doing a proper defol, but with reservation. Behold.6 points

What do you want from your weed? Where are your tastes? I love a haze for example. Super energetic for when I want to get busy. They are the most iffi and hardest to grow imo, take long to flower, not a beginner's plant nor really suited to indoor. But I also love kush hybrids. They offer a nice balance and make up my every day smoke. From my own stable, I recommend Bubbleberry Glue, Triple Chocolate, or Bubba kush. All three finish flowering in 8-9 weeks, are terpene packed, high in THC, and express as indica, with decent yields if you train. Perfect for indoors. They are available through Cannabist. In the end the only way you are going to find what you really want is to start somewhere and explore the very vast expanse of what cannabis has to offer.3 points

It comes down to the criteria we judge the pictures against and this is posted on the first post of each competition. Point #1 is originality, we look for pictures which we feel are original and creative. Something you don't see everyday. @trichomechaser you take some amazing pictures and I've stated this multiple times before. Although as has already been mentioned, the type of pictures you typically take are not exactly original or creative in the sense that it feels like something out of a breeders catalogue - go browse some seedbank sites and you'll see a lot of similar pictures showing off a flowering plant. This isn't a competition about who has the best bud shot or best looking flowering plant, it's the best snapshot. I didn't start these comps and was not involved in starting them up or the criteria the pictures are judged on, although I feel they're quite fair. If it were about who had the best budshot then the plant(s) you're growing would play a big role and you'd need a decent setup to get studio quality pictures. This competition needs to be fair for as many people as possible. It's still a competition so unfortunately using a cellphone from 10 years ago with a 2MP camera probably won't cut it as the picture quality will be pretty shitty. Some photography skill certainly plays a role but I'd not the only determining factor as well as the type of camera one uses, I suspect majority of pics are taken with peoples cell phones anyway and that's perfectly fine, although it needs to be in focus at least. This is the criteria the pictures are judged on.3 points

It is an absolute pleasure to my soul watching 32 girlz speeding into bloom presently - we stretched them from end Feb in the nursery. Basically put in two 20W full spectrum outdoor LED spots - bought from Sunfor for the job and driven by an Atom450 built for us by Pitt Industries. Gave me 7 hours a night to play with and we reloaded the generator from a 100W solar panel when the sun was good. With cloud I used Eskom. I am super greatful to @1000Hills Nursery for the experimental cuts - first time for me growing spec genes of superior quality in pots in a 12/12 scenario. We do 3m trees in the garden normally for bho oil and this year is the first time light became an issue due to a bad hail storm end December. It works and I am scoping to buy a second Atom. Means we could do a permanent rotation in the greenhouse - maybe 4 cycles per yer. Yes please Makes for interesting future projects we are planning.3 points

Honestly, for this comment and anyone that wants to ask about how those kind of pics didn't make it. As someone just viewing the forum and participating, I feel that those images are awesome, yes, but there isn't something uniquely memorable about it. You may have taken time and put in effort to take the picture, but honestly it looks like a good advertisement picture for a strain against a black background, which isn't anything out of the ordinary, and isn't that original either. Don't get me wrong, they're beautiful pictures. But this is a competition to judge a winner, not who has the best photography setup. I shoot all of my pictures on my phone and sometimes find myself almost all the way on the ground to find that right angle, lol. So I'm pretty bummed I didn't make nominations either. Just enjoy the spirit of the competition peeps. Who knows, maybe you'll win the next one. I'm a new member here and mean no disrespect, just thought I'd share my opinion as it may make a difference. That's a nice 9 bucket RDWC system that guy has..I mean..had... Although R400 000 is a bit of an over estimate if that is the entirety of that guy's grow and some of those plants look like they are struggling a bit. I also spy a Royal Queen Seeds poster I can only assume came from one of our local seed banks, in fact I might have that same one lying around somewhere Jissis I still can't get over how the media uses the word "dagga". The day that changes is the day that the stigma goes with it.2 points

Update. Soo it's been going good, besides the spider mites that came for a visit but have them under control. Still no nutrients and leaves been fading but that is due to harvest approaching fast. These buds are huge had to do a few on the spot redneck diy ideas to support them as they are getting heavy. Haven't been able to do a clean up of the old leaves but will do it shortly. The top of the main cola seems Abit weird but that might be heat stress due to it being close to the light. Very happy with the results up to now. I will take a picture of the RES, to think a while ago I was trying to run everything sterile. Now my RES would be a sterile growers worst nightmare. *Shot guys for all the information on the forum and to the Tea_King (Crex) for the push I needed to dump that first AACT into the RES.2 points

Another week, some more flower development. The patience is mighty, the sobriety the same. Pumped up the EC to 1.9, with the addition of some Freedom Farms Fire Juice.2 points

I 100% agree As a hydroponic grower i cannot use Bio Bizz, for obvious reasons, but have been using GHE for over a year with incredible results. So i think im going to stick with it for the indoor grow.2 points
-
You tackle it from the wrong side You should put the question in that direction: What fertilizer you guys have the best results with? ^^ My answer would be Plagron and Bio Bizz If you use a very good fertilizer.. your harvest should at least double.. what isn't bad at all hehehe I have a bet running right now, that I can get 1kg (dry) out of 1 m2... lets see how close I get to the target (i hate losing bets, so I take this rather serious)2 points

Same here I take pics with my Iphone 8 does not even have a duel camera. Sometimes I take 50 shots of one thing just to get Maybe one image I want to use. like TheUltimateNoob said on top Sometimes you down low ,other times you try to block out shades and sharp light. its surely nothing like taking a pic with a great camera. like I said before lets be greatfull fot this platform, and enjoy what we doing. have a nice Weekend guys.stay Lifted2 points

@1000Hills Nursery I'm still a novice at growing cannabis, so I'm always happy to learn from more experienced growers. I'll try my next run with just pure coco and see how it goes. Thanks for the info.2 points

I use the Blumat Tropf system, so a drip system controlled by how dry the medium is. This is done per pot basically, currently I'm using 2 carrots per pot and seeing how it goes. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk2 points

@1000Hills Nursery my pots are filled to the max with roots, so they drink it up really quickly. In veg I can get away with feeding every 2 days, but the extra growth from daily feeding is fantastic. With hydro, pot size doesn't matter as much as with organic. You can get away with smaller pots completely filled with roots, as long as you feed regularly. From what I've read online, it's pretty common practice to feed more than once a day if your roots fill the whole pot. I have root tips pushing out the bottom and side of my pots. This happened to me after skipping 2 days when I had a hangover from my brother's bachelor's party. So I play it safe now and do regular feedings. Luckily they bounced right back within a few hours and have been going strong eversince. This eas the closest to a heart attack I've ever been haha.2 points

https://www.growweedeasy.com/exhaust Then once you have a CFM calculated you just match the CFM rating of the carbon filter, but never go over the CFM of the filter otherwise the charcoal won't have enough time to scrub out the smell. I am actually running my indoor grow without a filter this time around, running the exhaust straight outside. Time will tell if it's ever noticeable.1 point

The filter needs to match the airflow rate. If your airflow rate is too high, the filter won't be able to filter properly. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk1 point

Not sure if it's just the pics but looks like you need to do another defol. Quite a Bush you got going there. I did a defol on my plants last night and adjusted them a bit, will see how it's looking tonight once they've adjusted and take it from there but light penetration is already much better. Same like most stuff works down here.. the guy not giving a damn till now.. always got what i ordered. OK, it can take some time.. record was ordered in Feb, even forgot that I ordered the material and in October i got a pick up slip with no idea what it could be. And had a great face palm moment when i opened the parcel and checked the stamp with the date when the parcel actually got send out. Still have 2 shipments of Serenade outstanding not talking of all the seeds i ordered during 420 lock down is rather annoying now.. went to builders to order material (insulation) for after the lock down.. nope.. can't. Not even home delivery.. world really stopped down here.1 point

I say coverage is better... So like @PsyCLown said, raise the lights a bit and up the power. But I'm gonna say it again, you have to be able to measure the light coming from your lights, in order to be able to place lights correctly and at the right height. Simple lux meter takes that guess work away. And then I go for a ballpark intensity of at least 50k lumens anywhere on my canopy as coverage for flower... So with that goal of getting a 50k coverage you can determine how high or low you need to put your lights... Typically I aim for 50k on the outskirts of the grow, knowing that anything closer to the light than the outskirts will be much higher intensity which is also okay...remembering Plants can handle maximum intensity under the sun. If at canopy level you aren't getting over 20k intensity - I'd say lower your lights or raise the wattage. Note - I haven't slept and I'm still partially slizzered from some decent LSD tabs please pardon any ramblings1 point

Lol we can't answer this for you bro. There are just too many to choose from and that's before knowing your tastes and what you prefer. Take a peek at some seed sites and see what tickles your fancy... @Cannabist Biltong and buds are some great places to start. But the deal is... Once you choose the seeds... I, and the members of this site, will make sure the plant gets the best advice under the sun1 point

Sorry for going MIA. They actually came out really nice in the end. Even tho it only received direct sunlight from 1pm till sunset. And ended up yielding 150g per plant (cured)1 point

@KaktusBoer Messed around a lot with coco/perlite mixes in the past. Great combo, easy to flush amongst other benefits. Eventually found plain coco to be best suited to our style. Just way cheaper and alot more forgiving from drying out. But anyways respect on running your system like that. @PsyCLown Nice. I checked some of their stuff in the hydro shops. I didn't look too deep... Stopped at the price1 point
-
@PsyCLown the hydroton is mostly there because I've had it since my first grow and just throw it on top every time. I don't really have any reason left for using it. With regards to runoff, with my first grow I got some nute burn closer to the end from salt buildup in my pots. I didn't have much runoff at the time, so decided to play it safe with this grow. From what I've read, it also helps replenish oxygen levels inside the rootzone. I've noticed my plants start looking droopy quickly if I don't have runoff. I have vegged a few plants without runoff without any issues though, but I like to flush out previous feedings with fresh nute water especially in flower. My wastage amounts to about 25 litres a week max, which I sometimes feed to my cacti. With the lights I figured higher wattage = higher potential yield. I can still touch my heatsink with my palm without burning even at full blast. But I'll totally try it out on my next run thanks man. Great to hear from experienced hydro growers!1 point
-
Nice man! @KaktusBoer why the hydroton on top of your coco perlite mix? I also run coco and perlite with fertigation, although use a different automatic watering system. That is a lot of water and nutes to waste. I must admit, I know with coco you're meant to water until runoff to avoid a nute imbalance and high EC environment in the coco but I have been lazy and so far have not noticed any negative side effects. @Ill_Evan with my QB's (well, we all have the same), when dimmed for seedlings, you can have it like 10cm away and it wont be an issue. I wouldn;t say one is more important than the other but higher up will give a better coverage and in your tent I think that is more wanted - especially with a scrog. So greater distance from the plants and then higher watts to compensate for the distance. @KaktusBoer There is no need to run the lights at their very max, LEDs are more efficient when running them below max capacity. Running them at max will lead to increased heat and a shorter lifespan on the LEDs, higher electricity bill for not all that much more output than a few w less. I don't see much need to run them past 90w per QB (so 360w in your case) when they're often stated as capable of 120W each.1 point

Supplemental light outdoors is essential to control when your plants flip as mentioned by @CreX . A small 10W LED Flood light is all you need in your greenhouse. Or you could do it like a boss and control a whole nursery like @420sake without power from the grid. Photos can be flowered outdoors year round. Well atleast here on the East Coast. Best way being Veg them 24hrs indoors. Throw them outside for almost instantaneous flowering regardless of how short the nights are. We use this method for sifting through seeds to see what makes the cut for a space in the flower room.1 point

Can also sometimes find these 12 inch RAW papers on the odd occasion Usually any fancy tobacco stores in established malls, like those ones that have the full-on cigar rooms. They usually stock all the nice things. Problem is we gotta wait for the lockdown to get off the balls of the tobacco industry before they open again.1 point

I was starting to get a little bit of bleaching from my QB at 200W and a distance to canopy of about 10cm, so I can totally believe @KaktusBoer. Also ended up raising mine but not as extensively, mine is sitting about 18cm now and the plants look a bit more comfortable. @CreX would you say distance to canopy is more important than watts being pushed?1 point

Grrr... humidity... Atleast you got it back around where you want it. No matter how aggressive you defoliate a week to 2 later it's almost like you can't notice you defoliated. I'm also less aggressive these dayz. I eventually noticed when growing the same strains repeated times that they take longer to finish when I defoliate aggressively . I end up with over vegged plants for the reset. And we all know how fast these plants grow in veg once the get going.1 point

Yeah I had to tear myself away from the Discovery channel. The litle spider hunted the lady buggs.. I was perplexed at the fact that he was hunting them.. Kept me bussy for far longer than what was necessary...1 point

So this girl us turning out to be my pride and joy.. I introduced some ladybugs, which I get from my Bilbunella plants, yesterday and while I was watching them in my stonedness.. a small jumping spider came out and made sure we understood that it was his turf..... At least I know she is well protected.1 point
-
Another important lesson learnt with this girl... Her not receiving anny direct sunlight is proving to be more of an issue than what I have hoped.. Mold is eating her up... I've cut most away but with rain and bad weather in the cards I must say that I will lose the fight from here on so a early harvest is the only way.. Humidity is in the high 80s the last week. Most will go for oil anyway so I will cut my losses and harvest on Tuesday... Fucks me off though.. This was one of my better Swazi Bagseed Phenos and would of loved for her to go another 2-3 weeks at least..0 points

Update long overdue. As we all know plans don't always pan out with the plants, this lady was due for flowering a while ago but due to work and unforseen traveling she was not moved into flowering untill two weeks ago. Not totally a bad thing as she got a chance to finish off in winter with hopefully no males around. Repotted her into a make shift crate pot. She took off with the new space and was pushing bud sites all over. She was left out side to do her thing and due to lockdown the neighbor finally got to install his new floodlight for the back, and Bam that's my whole backyard lit up. A few late night braai's and they kept that light on through the night. I couldn't move the plant to the front because the street light is hella bright, no space in the garage and the Mrs just gave me the eye balls when I mentioned bringing her indoors. I finally made some space in the garage and then I saw those buggers, BALLS!! So the neighbor got a lesson in saving electricity especially at night when there is flowering girls around. Luckily I still have a few more seeds and going to pop them into water today. I will continue with this dairy with the new seedlings soon..0 points
