Here’s how you do it: Build a plywood box and make drawers for it. The drawers don’t have bottoms. Buy filter elements and put them in the drawers. Easy to clean.5 points

Are you in cape town? Seeds found in bought weed is not really worth growing. As most of these are un known males that pollenate the plants. Rather get some of @Totemic genetics seeds. All the grow off plants last year was . So you cannot go wrong.4 points

@Saurus I like the idea of a little prolongation area in the top section of the tent for clone domes as indirect light and warmth works best for successful rooting. This tent I have is purely for genetic preservation and renewals of moms. These plants get renewed every 3-4 weeks. When I ran tents only I took cuttings of my veg plants before flip. I then grew those clones in the veg tent. 2 weeks before the flower tent was ready for harvest I took new cuttings from the veg tent. Kept the cuttings in the dome elsewhere in my house where there was ambient light at night. I then flipped the veg plants in the veg tent to get a head start and moved them to continue doing their thing in the flower tent when the tent became available. That would make the veg tent available again for the freshly rooted cuttings. So in other words I didn't keep mom's as it wasn't necessary for a small setup. Either way bro there is no right or wrong really. Do your thing the way you comfortable. Just remember growing is very different from reading thru 100s of grow diaries and articles etc. All the luck4 points

I rate those Lil 50w will work great in your tent Im really a big fan of these cheaper lights for veg - they do the job really well, and iv used flourecent tubes and flourecent bulbs and incandescent lighting and HPS and MH and LED bulbs and spot lights.... They work to an extent... But we're mostly all more expensive than this acdc light overall And still this FL-150-CW is way better than the others for veg, except MH... MH rocks veg! But at 550w from the wall for a 400w fitting, VS 150w from the wall acdc... It's a hands down open book test brotha3 points

So what do you guys think? My conclusion thus far is that nutrient dense soil will make your plants grow faster but this is an ongoing test and we will see what happens at harvest time. This is the first time I am using freedom farms soil and I am super impressed.3 points

Hello all. So I have decided to start an indoor grow. Here's a list of items that I've obtained: 1x veg/clone/mother tent (1.2mx0.6mx1.8m) 1x flowering tent (1.2mx1.2mx2m) 6" and 8" extractor fans 6" and 8" carbon filters 480 watt led grow bars (3500k) (flowering light) Pots, PH meter, Propogation chamber etc etc I know I've left out alot of the finer details but this thread is rather in finding perfect vegging lights. Assuming I have a strain that flowers for 8 weeks, i would like to vegetate for 8 weeks if possible (or less). The lights I'm looking to get to veg from clone are Eurolux LED Grow tubes 9w (2ft). I want to spread out about 14 of them staggered in the 1.2mx0.6m tent. Thats 14x9 watts for roughly 4-8 plants (126 watts). The lights will be able to be lowered etc. Would the weak vegetating light and then extremely strong flowering light make a huge impact on the plants? Maybe when putting them in flowering I will gradually increase the wattage over a week to 480watts? Anyone have experience using those tubes?2 points

Okay, so I fed her a few hours ago and she's doing really well. Can't wait for the buds to start filling out so I can finally see what they look like! I didn't consider the size of the new pot so I misjudged when I would have had to feed her, hence the delayed post. Nothing's really changing, but she is moving along well. She has really good structure but I feel the internodes could've been tighter. All in all, I'm happy with how this Inzane is turning out, and there isn't much longer left. This tree is also due for a defoliation real soon. Enjoy.2 points

I had only recently discovered this technology. I have to share this as it makes such a big difference in my grow.2 points

@1000Hills Nursery this is great info man. Really really great. To be honest this has been a thought of mine but for some reason I had in my mind that if you made a clone of a clone continually you eventually get bad genetics. If that's not the case, I will most definitely try just taking clones from the vegged clones before they go into flowering. I also like that you flip them before even moving them to the other tent. Nice tip. I also forgot to mention that I do have a couple of buddies that can help with legit clones every now and then. Maybe this will help with some diversity. Thanks again man. Pics looks great. Very jealous. Appreciate the effort. Will definitely do a grow log when I get started.2 points

Sounds like you have it dialed in properly bud. I’m Gona grab the unit on takealot as home grow is outa stock.2 points
-
Problem with this unit is you have to set it on temp or humidity. But it helps to keep the temp up at night by swithching the fan off at 20 degrees. I run a dehumidifier pretty much 24/7. And my fan goes on when temp is above 24. Heater goes on below 18.2 points

This time of the year it will start to flower when you put it outside anyway. Green Crack in a 1L yoghurt tub Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk2 points

Why don't you put your fan on a wifi switch with a temperature/humidity sensor? It works like a charm. Less than R4002 points

If you have the discipline to remove and reapply the tarp at the exact same time then go for it.Im not sure how that will affect the actual buds. You absolutely need to control light if the plant is a photoperiod type otherwise she will revert back to veg.2 points
-
A couple of those are tall growing strains bro, so as crex said, read up and learn. If height is an issue you will need to learn to train your ladies to make the most of the space available. You can try mess around with bag seed, but I wouldn't recommend it. Rather get some good beans or a clone even. Growing outdoors is fine, supplement light to keep her in veg, then find spot that has no light pollution during the evening. Move them there when you want them to flower. Lastly, good soil. I like freedom farms green bag or organic matters.2 points

Thanks for the reply guys. This is helping me alot figure out how I'm going to run it. So the idea is to eventually have two 1.2mx1.2m tents which will be purely for flowering 1 strain at a time (4-8 plants on 12/12) with a 480w led quantum bars. @1000Hills Nursery thanks for the response man. So the tent would be split in half just so that the top half could keep max 2 mothers going and a propagation chamber next to them, and underneath is purely veg. So mother gets clones cut and put in propagation for about 2 weeks. Then moved down to veg chamber for about 6 weeks while being trained/cropped etc not to get too big. Then moved into the flowering tent under the 480w. If I need to use a scrog or just do some good training/super cropping etc. I will know when I use the strain I guess. The plants will also be vegging in 5L pots before put into 20L for preflowering and flowering in the bigger tent. @CreX The lights I was thinking of using are2x or 3x 50w flood lights in a space of 1.2mx0.6x0.9m. I'll attach fotos. +-R150 each Thanks again oaks2 points
-
They do have some leds in 3000k, but only 50w versions - so not really worth it imo. This is indeed the right light... I have one in my flower tent currently as I need more lighting there and it's all I had to spare... It puts out decent amounts of light, but I would keep it for veg use only and use a more sophisticated light for bloom. Contact an express dealer and I think they are on special for R3752 points

Hi I just confirmed with them that its free to the first 50 entries. The strain will be the same Auto Deimos.2 points
-
I agree with you clones would probably have been a better test. I might do it on the next run. But clones also have variations. So the test will be hard with small sample sizes. I think if you do at least 10 pots of each soil you might be able to start drawing conclusions. Then you can eliminate the outliers and draw a good median. Oneday when I have lots of space.2 points

This thread has seen a little revival. Can't argue with @Budwizer's build! At the moment I'm taking air from inside the garage as it's winter. In the summer my garage becomes an oven so receiving air from outside becomes more crucial.2 points

Awesome entries this month guys, loving them. All the best to everyone! Also a big thanks to @420SA for hosting these comps, it genuinely adds more excitement to my grow every month since I knew about it. I've only ever seen this kind of thing on international sites in fully legalised and regulated countries, so it's really cool that it's being done here as well. Good day Fam, I came across a local company that has a solo cup challenge Cultiv8Kitz, its starts the 1st of July with 50 competitors. https://cultiv8kitz.co.za/ You must enter via Facebook or Instagram to get your entry. I am not affiliated with them just thought it would be cool to have some members also partaking.(I did ask them if I could share it here, if you do enter tell them CoolJ sent you)1 point

Hi guys, thinking about starting a small, discreet 1m2 grow area in my outbuilding. What i have so far: - 10 x 7 liter pots - Professional potting mix - 200w LED grow light (Edit: This is a 75W and NOT 200W) - some pc fans for ventilation (I might not use these and just leave one side of my "grow area" open) - HO T5 lighting tubes that i used to use in my fish tank.. might add a few globes that are closer to the daylight temperature range. - 2 x 1m2 reflectors - I plan on giving the sea of green method a go. Some questions i have: - What height should i make my grow area? I am considering growing sativa and indica varieties. Would a grow area that is 60cm in height be too low? What should i aim for with 7 liter pots? -If the height of my grow area is taller than 60cm, Will the 2 reflectors be sufficient or would i need to get reflectors for all sides? Perhaps just add white panels to the sides that dont have reflectors - Any other advice you can give a new grower?1 point

Hi everyone Just sharing my Grow diary on the following strains . Planted on 01/04 (critical) and 06/04 (auto and Caboose) Current strains -Dutch passions Glueberry Og Autoflower -T.H seeds Critical Hog (Fem) -Strainhunters -Caboose (fem) This is my first grow so I’ve made a lot of mistakes but that’s how you learn I suppose . My setup -Mammoth G1 tent (1.8x1.1x2.4) -Gavita 750w hps light -6 inch inline extraction fan -6inch in-line intake fan -4x clip fans (non oscillating ) -1x oscillating Clip on fan. -Humidifier (in the Room not the tent) because my extraction is too high running24/7 dropping my humidity way to low. Best humidity I’ve seen is 45% and lows of 10% average around 28% which is still way to low ( been battling getting this factor controlled especially with the heat the Gavita generates) Medium and nutes -24lt Rootbuilder Airpots -Ghe Flora coco nutes (Flora grow ,Flora bloom) -Gold label coco mixed with 20% perlite .(80/20) So i started by germinating my seeds by dropping them in a glass half filled with tap water . After 48hrs I transferred them to a light sealed container in between two paper kitchen towels and put this on the back of my laptop to stay warm. Once roots popped out I planted them straight into final pots .( in hindsight I should have started in a smaller pot and transplanted so I could have seen the difference myself) I decided to run my lights at night and let them sleep in the day but after 3 weeks into my grow being a newb I took bad advice and changed them to run lights on during the day . I did this change by running them straight 36hrs light on to change the times of light on/light off cycle. Here are pics of them starting out. I mixed up my desfran and critical seed when germinating and one didn’t pop . Based on the growth of the plant I guessed it’s the critical Hog that survived . Hence the plant tag says crit or Des Week 11 point

I'm now thinking that maybe the easiest thing would be to buy some auto flowering seeds and put it under my greenhouse / pool cover as it gets full sunlight throughout the day. I'd just have to move it as summer approaches. Are auto flowering strains easy to grow and will this idea work?1 point
-
A tote does not offer much space. I managed to grow 1 auto in a double stack tote but lost all my main colas to bud rot. A very rewarding experience nonetheless...1 point

It's just a test run to see what happens if I try multiple small clones in one tote, like SOG , not sure what I will get. Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk1 point

Excellent idea. I actually went in last week to have a look at this unit at home grow depot. looks like a great little unit with nice features, the only reason I didn’t fit this yet is because I see that it’s a power on/off switch and doesn’t slow the speed of my fans . My thought process behind it aswell is that if it’s using temp and humidity it would be a confusing one. seeing that if fans go off . Heat and humidity will skyrocket quick , then fans will kick in have a buffer until it starts bring heat and humidity down. My problem is that when this happens , my humidity rate is dropping so fast compared to my temps rate. Where as temps starting dropping 0.1c the humidity dropping at a rate of like 10% in that same time frame. so by the time my temps come back down to 26c odd the humidity is like down in the 20s for a while. I suppose it’s better than my current situation of low humidity always , Think I may have to go with this option once I start veg on my next grow. I think once I add my carbon filter ( another rookie mistake , should have bought this in beginning) The Carbon filter should restrict my fan enough so that humidity can climb . Now that my girls are in flower and bigger humidity is a lot better . But in veg and seedling stage I had many days where she was sitting at 10% humidity if not lower ( the hygrometer reads down to 10% I think )1 point
-
Since she runs in the day if I put the extraction fan off and on in 15 min intervals on a analogue timer . She hits 32c max and can hit 80% humidity (too high for my liking) quick in those 15mins that the fan is off. so I just run it 24/7 now to avoid the high fluctuations on temp and humidity. when you say recycle the air do you mean vent the exhausted air back into tent?1 point
-
If it's gonna revert back to veg then that's that's out of the question lol. Don't think I'd have the discipline or the desire tbh haha.1 point

How hot does the tent get with the gavita? Mat be just recyle your air to get the humidity up.1 point

@CreX MH and HPS would be great but I have several reasons as to why I can't/don't want to use them. I will give three of those 50w LED floods a try in my veg tent. Thanks for the help man. Appreciate it.1 point

And read everything you can about growing techniques and best practice methods. A good grower who knows how to apply cultivation tools will grow better produce with limited resources, than a grower with more resources but a lack of knowledge1 point

I took apart a kitchen extractor, the hole perfectly fits on top of my tent and I have 3 levels to control the fan.I just removed the bulb portion lol it works really well but now I have to replace the carbon and possible the filter material. Its ghetto but it works so well.1 point

I crex, could I possibly please have a link to this light, I think I also saw some light from acdc less wattage in 3000 +k , would that also work as a veg/supplemental light?1 point

Thanks for the warm welcome and kind comments . im still kaking myself every step of the way . Hoping to make it a successful first grow all the way through. Thanks for the suggestion. I will work on the grow diary post and use pics from the beginning so the progress can be tracked .1 point

This took me by surprise haha! I luckily live on the 3rd floor, and little gets up there... But even before that, I leave my veg room permanently 100% open And then my flower tent is only closed during its dark cycle, otherwise the tent is also open... So a filter would just be silly for me1 point
-
I don't draw air from outside, just from within my room and I use the light blocking baffles from Secret Jardin - this is actually more for better passive air in take as without these the tent goes into some serious negative pressure and I feel the airflow suffers. @Budwizer has a really awesome and clever solution though!1 point
-
Welcome, grow is looking good! Why not start a grow diary to keep us updated on the progress? You can also ask questions if need be1 point

@CreX Thanks so much man. So let me give you the full idea. I want to take that 1.2mx0.6mx1.8m and basically split it in half horizontally by putting a counter/table in it. So essentially it's divided into two equal parts of 1.2mx0.6mx0.9m. The top will be "breathable" in sense to allow air to flow through. The top part I want to put in two lights that could keep two mother plants in veg while having a propagation chamber next to it too. At the bottom I'll have the space to veg under those tubes. The tubes aren't too expensive, I have a family member which works in the industrial lighting industry and get me them for quite cheap. The housing is also easy to get hold of. I get your point about it being really intricate. I was abit worried that those flood lights wouldn't be enough but I'll definitely check if we have some in stock. Just a question, does the 150 in the name represent the wattage? Also the colour spectrum, 6400k? @1000Hills Nursery dude Thanks for the note. I'd definitely note the tip of not flipping them for a week to get used to the light. That was my thinking. Thanks for the confirmation1 point

Vacuum sealer is critical for eliminating O2 exposure, I'm new to this but I assume the process is similar to avoiding turning wine into vinegar. Vac sealer also compresses the cob, compensating for the natural loosening of the cob due to compaction of the bud. Hence the need to tighten windings after 3 days of vacuum compressed cob bud.1 point

Small update. GDP is ripening up nicely. Starting to see mostly cloudy trichomes, busy waiting for that amber. I'd like to see half amber trichomes before cutting. Royal Gorilla is still a ways away, plenty of fattening up to do and trichomes are still clear and small. I think I won't ripen the Royal Gorilla as much as the GDP, maybe as soon as I spot a single amber I will cut. GDP RQS1 point
