Just built a simple frame from 22 x 44 planks and then skiinned it with white Hardboard sheets. This wall is 2,4m high and 3m across. Grow room in obviously on the other side.

What's the story around using synthetic nutes in a living soil? All information welcome. Motivation for my question is that they use these "synthetic nutes" in big scale irrigation systems on farms. I currently work on a fynbos farm, but have done my share on cash crop and fruit farms and they all do it. It obviously goes directly into the earth and the plants still gets fed. My current boss is a multiple masters degree holder in all things agricultural science at the age of 59 and also the owner of Inteligro. They manufacture and distribute their own nutes and distribute brands like Haifa and such, all specializing in water soluble synthetic plant nutrients and all kinds of other crazy shit. We have a consultant that visits our farm once every 3/4 months and gives us the run down of what to do and feed the plants with, this consultant is twice as smart as my boss. I often listen to their discussions, but only understand about half of what they say. I only apply the stuff, but that allows me to know what it is and it's all the exact same stuff you would use in a normal hydroponic setup, just at different ratios. I know people say to stay away from synthetic nutes when growing in a living soil, but I'm sure it's very much the same as putting synthetic or "hydroponic" nutes on your plants that are growing outside in mother earth. You just have to apply it right. We have an old school irrigation system on the farm, no pumps, all natural. So where we irrigate from we tap into the irrigation system through a manifold then attach a big metal bucket that gets pumped full of pressure and we throw all the synthetics in there and pump it into the irrigation system. Like I've mentioned, we've done this for everything from lettuce to guava trees to fucking king proteas. Consumables, ornamentals, the whole show. Recently finished a permaculture internship on an all organic farm, toughest but best time of my life.

I have always used some sort of chemical salt fertilizer on my outside plants and on my inside coco and hydro setups.I have tried organic but the inherent issue when faced with organics is that you dont know when the ferts will break down and be available and also the different elements that make up N P K values wash out at different rates, so how do you effectively top-up and control this ? I have to say that I have grown "organically only" speaking, and the flavoru and smell was much better than with chemical only grows.This makes sense because I added a variety of organics that eventually when broken down contribute to the terp profile of the plant in some way.Im no expert so that may be way off I stick to chemical nutes because of simplicity sakes,you measure your water ,throw in nutes, stick in a EC/TDS meter, adjust ph, then you are done.Different plants have different nutrient requirements and I find you can really push a plants limit and sometimes you have to because inside grows are costly and you may be chasing an effective g/watt. At the end of the day, you either feed the plant nutrients directly (Synthetic) or you feed the microbes in the living soil that break down and then makes nutrients available to your plant(Organic). The downside of combining the two methods is that your chemicals could alter/kill microbes in the living soil.I have done experiments many times when switching out an organic plant for nutes and the plant gets stunted for about 2 weeks before resuming growth.I guess its up to the type of synthetic fert you use and its manufacturing process that determines how it affects soil microbes.

1 week after putting in pots , they have been growing good one leave here and there that doesnt look up to par. They all started pushing out new leaves and nodes, also not sure if some of them are stretching , all inputs welcome

I use only rain water for my indoor plants. And only well point water for my outdoor plants. I never test the pH. If you grow in an organic medium and have inoculated with an micro organism blend they will automatically pH everything for you. I have no issues.

Amnesia Mom reset... It has been many generations and she's stills an amazing plant... Indoor and Outdoor... Anyone would be able to successfully grow her. Ticks alot of the boxes. Great structure, unmistakable stem rub through all cycles so much so that she doesn't really need to be labeled, not a fussy feeder, early finisher by day 54 is when she's perfect for chop down , big yielder, top bag appeal, smells and tastes like pink grapefruit. Decent high 1-2 hours. Her cons... She foxtails easily... Too much light, during flush and any other unnecessary stresses. Kak to trim. Can be a bit of a mildew magnet...

Have you guys ever seen a dagga surf board. I see alot of people on here or for growing only But there is a world cannabis out there and WE need to support all cannabis businesses. Hemp companies in SA are getting alot of crap from the powers that be and its very difficult for them to sustain their businesses. I was fortunate enough to cross paths with an amazing hemp pioneer who was using hemp to make surfboards and deepsea *flippers*. He made a hemp board for my dad, old ballie surfer from Durbs. It was custom made on the South Coast by South Coast Customs. One of the most amazing things I have ever laid my eyes on. The leaves were from NguniSeeds strain tribal vision and super imposed on the board. I dont think the business is still running and he has moved onto bigger things. But was just reminded to me on FB about this board in memories, so thought I would share. The board is a short board, 6.4in. Its lighter, stronger and faster. An amazing gift from an amazing person. Surfs up, but you cant smoke it.

If you don't mind not having to cut out your own ducting holes then the Mammoth 120 is fantastic the Mammoth also has more accessibility with the side zip that the DS120 doesn't have. I'd probably go Mammoth. It's a good size tent too.

Thanks for the reply. I filled in the contact form asking about stock of a tent and they replied it was in stock however it was not the model I asked about. I emailed again and haven’t received a reply. I would order from grohydro who did reply quickly but they only expect stock in 5 weeks.

Is your tank water brown? That cutting won't make it sadly... The bacteria and shit in the water will rot the stem tip... Cloning needs sterile water or you run the risk of losing cuttings

Why are you spraying pestaside on the plants still? I thought you sprayed already? One application should be more than enough for the little things plants ... I would even spray that shiny layer off the leaves with some clean water. On little plants like this that have a small amount of leaves, I just squash all the bugs I can see and it seems good enough. I would rather avoid spraying your babies with anything while so young

The plants are showing signs on the leaves that something might be off. Any ideas or recommendations? I could only find some Margaret Roberts organic pesticide but not sure if its it which is causing the issue.

Precisely, this isn't a mine is better than yours, or this way is better than that way, at all. If nobody ever tried anything new or different, there wouldn't be new things discovered or even facts or data on those processes tried. So if others are interested more in soil and how to fully get the benefits out of it, I'd be happy to assist with my understanding and experiences. This picture below, shows just how a ground covering plant, planted straight into clay ground / dirt, then just given a watering of Microbes and then watered as needed, and the plant sending this energy through the plants root, has actually built that clay into a healthy thriving environment. When he was told he would have to spend more than an arm and leg for tons of top soils brought in and nutrients used, and so on.

At the moment I have 2 large totes, one with soil and one with coco... I like the coco more to be honest, but I'm getting decent results in the soil as well. But yea, large beds of whatever is the way! Just expensive to buy 400l of craft soil VS relatively cheap to buy 400l of coco.

Thanks for the kind words. To be honest I'm not a big fan of the smells atm... It's too much of a mixture of everything hitting you in one go as soon as the door is opened. But individually smelling them one by one up close and personal really is one of the highlights of growing.

Ah shit man! I have had similar issues! I opted for as few pieces outside the bucket as possible for this reason! But to be honest, my vortex brewer also leaks if I don't fit the pipes tight enough. So my whole system is glued water tight except one conduit and 90 degree bend that I push on and off to drain the thing. I'll try update my vortex thread with more specific things that iv done to get it to work and shit. You aren't the first to wake up to an empty brewer and a puddly floor

Well, fuck. Had her on a towel the first night cause I couldn't find a bucket / drip tray big enough, but the towel couldn't soak up what leaked out. I'm super fucking glad I have my plugs and all electronics raised off the floor, woke up with a puddle around the thing yesterday. Luckily it was just clean water!!! Looks like I won't he able to take it apart completely the way I wanted to, because it's the pvc cement you use to secure the pipe fittings that makes it water proof. So for now I will glue her down and just keep the whole thing like that. Atleast I can disconnect the hose from the air pump and the bucket itself it fitted with a threaded drain plug so I can screw that loose if I need to.

Hi, Thanks for the tag, @SkunkPharm Finishing up backlog on small lights and receiving the rest of our heatsink order from January, next week finally, so am expecting to have the grow bar range back up soon, and new high efficiency veg range after that. If in big rush for a small light, Looking at the links above, the one website is just random chinese crap. I would advise against that. The modugrow one looks pretty sweet. I can't tell what the difference is between their 90W lights, but the specs are solid. It's 1/3 of a standard 240W Quantum board light, for R2k. The QB-75 will be back next week, and is going to be R1250 going forward. Compared to the 90W Modugrow, the QB-75 is about 10% less efficient, and 15W less, but also costs R800 less. So it's a slightly different value proposition.

Hi, thanks for the replies . I’ve got about R7000 to get started but can add on as Months go on. I would be spending the money on buying anyway if I don’t grow my own. I’m looking to grow about 4 To 6 plants indoor at a time. My outdoor grow was pretty awesome. After buying for so long I’ve been smoking my own since January when my first outdoor auto tangematic from fastbuds was harvestEd. I grew way too much too close together that I couldn’t harvest it all on my own before a bad week of Gauteng weather kind of ended it. I grew a lot of autos to.My triple cheese and liberty haze were awesome. My phantom OG and acapulco gold got pm and I ended up tossing it. I’m currently still harvesting a Franco’s lemon cheese but she’s mostly cut down now and have one Swazi regular female and a royalI ICE that’s still a way off and I’m not sure will survive tonight’s cold. I’ve also got 2 blue cheese autos that I’ve just started. I take them out during the day and put them under 2 45w cfl bulbs inside at night. I’ve tried to chose more pm resistant strains for my next outdoor grow with short flowering times of 6-8 weeks and a few longer ones so my harvest is more spread out. I’ve got seeds for Holland’s hope, Church, Pineapple chunk, peyote cookies, S.A.D and LA confidential but might get white label master kush and Afghan kush regular seeds instead. My mind changes a lot . Anyway, nice to meet you all!

That is crazy! How did you get them to varigate like that or do you just graft from an already varigated piece? I've seen a varigation thay was white as chalk instead of the yellow, and it was more like streaks with streaks of green in between, buddy of mine got a cutting and it rooted and shot out green... bummer. I am looking at doing a few lophophora x pachanoi grafts soon, wana do it indoors during the winter. Will be my first graft. I've got mostly pachanoi all over the place, then a couple macrogonus, cuzcoensis, like one or two small peruvianus and couple of lophophora williamsiis. One that's pushing flowers and I hand pollinate them each time and get seeds every year, also got a few seeds a while back, planted like 50 and 3 years later I'm left with one hahah. Gona plant more soon and do Lophophora x Pereskiopsis grafts. Got a ton of pereskiopsis. Then I got two cuts off a mutant Brigesii Penis thing. Will add photo, you probably know it. Greetings, people from earth. I have been "window shopping" on this site for a few months now, just trying to get enough info to get my first grow going. I've had a deep passion for plants my whole life, and an even deeper passion for cannabis the last 13 years. I would consider myself kind of an hyper enthusiast, yep that hits the nail on the head. I want to thank 420sa for providing such a great forum for us locals to gather and share our stories and info on!!! I've always had a plant growing, but only harvested about 5 of them. I've had ghetto setups, all that, never anything amazing. Did a 10 plant outdoor grow last year, with a few OK plants only harvested 4 of them, but that's not where my attention is at. Got myself a 1mx1mx1.8m tent, 360Watt (probably 240True Watt) LED light, a fan, inline fan, carbon filter - all that... got a few clones from a buddy and here we go!!!! Actually, the ladies are all at week 14. Flowering for 5 weeks already. So far everything seems to be 100% as I followed all you guys' instructions to the T! I just thought it's a good idea to jump in and become part of such a great community!!! I have tons of questions, but always end up researching for hours trying to find very simple detail, just "window shopping" here has already made it so much easier finding the right information for a grower from the Overberg area. Anyway, blessed all you beautiful people! Hope you all had a wonderful day and are lucky enough to wind down at the end of all the crazyness blowing your favourite smoke! Growing Goodness!!!

So this is my current Charlotte's Angel. My Medicine plant. She gave me a serious amount of cuttings unfortunately they are all gone now. This one should at least give me 80-100gms. I hope for 12ml of CBD oil. That is enough for 3 months of meds(I need to up the dose though). I was hoping to only grow once, for a years worth of meds, but it seems like it is going to be an ongoing process once again. Bad luck and paranoia once again sinks a good grow.
