,So Cabinet has approved a bill to regulate cannabis. We've all been waiting for this, and now that the wheel is rolling again, it is causing quite a stir of emotion among the cannabis community. With the Concourt judgements suspension ending in about 6 weeks, we will undoubtedly enjoy a brief time where that ruling alone will stand as law. For this bill to be passed, it needs to undergo normal parliamentary processes which have to by law, include a period for public submissions. It is time for us to again respond enmasse when public submissions open. This will be the only opportunity we have to fight for the quantities we will be allowed to possess. See the article below. A bit distasteful tone overall,..... https://businesstech.co.za/news/lifestyle/423624/cabinet-approves-bill-to-regulate-private-use-of-cannabis-in-south-africa/ Cabinet has approved the submission of the Cannabis for Private Purposes Bill of 2020 to Parliament for processing. Justice and Correctional Services minister Ronald Lamola said in a media briefing on Thursday (6 August), that the bill will give effect to the Constitutional Court judgement that declared some parts of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act and Medicines and Related Substances Control Act unconstiutional. “The judgement was suspended for 24 months to allow Parliament to correct those sections,” he said. “This Bill regulates the use and possession of cannabis and the cultivation of cannabis plants by an adult for personal use. “It provides the limit of the quantity of cannabis that may be possessed by an adult and criminalizes the smoking of cannabis in public places. ” The bill will have to face parliamentary consideration and a public consultation process before being signed into law. In 2018, the Constitutional Court ruled that the use of cannabis is legal for both personal and medical use. However, it is currently still unlawful to use it outside of your private home as well as buying and selling it. The national drug master plan publishedin June states that cannabis is currently the most widely used illicit drug in South Africa, with an estimated 3.65% of the population (between the ages of 15-64) using some form of the drug. The data shows that its use is widespread amongst all age and income groups and that various forms of the drug are popular for different reasons. “Hydroponic and indoor produced Cannabis is also on the rise amongst the youth and affluent communities,” the Department of Social Development said. “A newly emerging trend in use is the smoking or eating of different forms of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – a rich resin extracted from the Marijuana plant. Users refer to this practise as ‘dabbing wax’ or ‘honey’.”9 points

I have arrived Okay so I've noticed this thread a while back but I've never had the time to sit and type this out so tonight I got onto 420sa with my laptop and grabbed this opportunity. Back in Grade 6 (yeah, 6) I had this mate that got accepted to study at the Oprah Winfrey academy with a full scholarship because of their grades. We were all really young but this mate had an elder brother that was married to a younger wife. It's about to get real... At the end of Grade 6, we had this huge farewell at their place and almost all of our close friends were there, including my mates family. The night was cool, we somehow managed to get our hands on some alcohol (maybe through the bro's wife - i don't know). About halfway through the night, all of us were pretty smashed, not that it took much, but we were still up to create. For reasons I will never understand, the bros wife saw it okay to give a bunch of 6th graders some weed for the night, and a rolled joint with that along with some extra bits for later. Needless to say, we were on our way to a spot we could have this smoke in peace without risk of being caught. When I say we, I mean about 4 people this time because there weren't many that wanted to smoke, and more that we haven't even told. The joint gets lit, a huge flame engulfs the tip of it and we laugh, fascinated and in a rush by what we were doing. We share the joint amongst the 4 of us and the effects kicked in after the first round. Euphoria, laughter, disorientation, the works... All of the effects from the best highs you've ever felt basically combined into one big sledge to the brain. We managed to make our way back into the house, and directly to my mates room, lying on the bed with our faces mashed into the pillow, feeling the effects of the alcohol and weed combo for the first time, my god, it was quite something. After 20 minutes of telling myself it was the weed that made me feel this way, and not the alcohol, I started to somewhat come-to, able to speak properly and not burst out laughing at every little thing. After that night, I would say I've tried weed a few times from Grade 7 to like 9, and I started enjoying the functional high by Grade 10... Throughout the later years in high school I didn't smoke a lot, but I didn't restrict myself either. Often being the one that would help source the stuff and roll since everyone else rolled like shit[emoji23]. Once I was done with high school (Class of 2013), and into campus, the freedom was unreal. I could do whatever I wanted to, yet I chose to stick to weed. I used it to my advantage, made more, got some for free, hustled my way and just overall did what I had to do to keep going. My use of weed fluctuated between moderate to severely heavy quite a few times and I went through many phases where I had to cut down and control my shit for a couple months so that I know I'm good... I'm strong minded and refuse to let any drug get the better of me. When I felt I needed to stop, that was exactly what I did. I've done a few other substances, but weed is the shit man. Anyway, campus took the better of 5 years, and I've done and learnt a lot over that period, including always reading about growing weed when the thought crossed my mind. My tolerance levels after campus are just effed man... I need a really potent edible to give me any high worth feeling. Keep in mind the standard of weed I was exposed to kept increasing, and I was always finding better stuff to smoke... So with the basic knowledge I've had for a long time and laws being changed, in 2019 I decided to pull the trigger in build my first grow box because I was sick of paying ridiculous prices for good weed. I decided to waste money by going cheap at first with a bunch of cfls but then dropped a decent amount on a proper light and I've never looked back - I will also not cut costs on equipment again, fire in fire out! I don't think I will ever stop growing my own shit as long as I live somewhere that allows it because it's just way cheaper. With the way I grow now, by harvest time and with calculating all the costs, I end up paying like what - R10 per dry gram? I'd take that deal over getting my shit from anyone else any day bro! I can wait, it's fine. With the way I plan to grow, I'll be getting harvests at next to nothing compared to these stupid street prices. So yeah, I guess that's my story. #WhatsYourStory? lol9 points

"Cannabis" used instead of "dagga". That for me is a big win already. We must now really keep up to date on any submissions for public opinion. These cats always like to snake in legislation without really accepting recourse.7 points

As someone who knows a little bit about the law and property leasing agreements, I can already see loopholes unless they have been accounted for. They will need to define "household", otherwise you can just "sign a lease" of one room in your house to a friend and boom. Your limits have doubled. Sign another lease and boom. Your limit has tripled.4 points

So something is happening at least, what exactly does this mean for us though? Same same for now, wait for public submission / opinion at which point we're able to make submissions and give feedback as to what sort of quantities should be deemed reasonable for personal consumption etc?4 points

As a youngster I always wondered what cannabis plants looked like. What a great hobby. I have been growing for a number of years and find it super relaxing looking after those beautiful plants, almost addicted. The smell the difference in each plant it's just a amazing experience every time.4 points

Thought I'd share a few pictures of that UFO LED I disassembled. I replaced the stock fan with a bigger (120mm) PC fan, slapped on a heat sink I found laying around with some thermal paste I had - it's not optimal but it will help with heat dissipation for sure - and propped the fan higher than the heat sink using some wooden skewers since I figured they would insulate well and it's fine since they won't be under any significant forces. I then cable strapped everything together with the power supply taped on top of the fan for additional cooling. The cable ties haven't started melting, in fact they aren't even damaged, and I don't think they're gonna give out any time soon. The replacement fan makes the unit run silently and still remains warm to the touch (a bit on the warmer side though). I also added some connectors to the input of the driver to make it a bit easier to disconnect. It's a small project, but taking apart this Chinese Blurple back then when I did and having a look at the insides (including how the LEDs are connected to each other) gave me the confidence to want to DIY my next light. Hell, I'm pretty sure I could even design a board at this stage, so if it was easier to make my own boards, I would Anyway, I've always been fascinated by electronics since like primary school and studying a bunch of science modules helped a lot when it came to understanding the technicalities when rigging up a light, so I'm always willing to learn new info. Finally I have something that can make use of the knowledge, now to just get some parts and hardware4 points

I like reusing my soils, re-amending them to save money. I have a 50l no till pot that is now going on 4 years old, and has grown 3 plants. With the last one though I noticed the soil performance wearing thin, having to fertilize more regularly. Envirofarm has a product that I'm going to test out on that soil. The only amendments going in will be the Epic 5:2 at their recommended dosage. This should be a great soil reviver or addition to a lean soil mix. Opening the jar you get this organic earthy and fresh ocean smell. Let's see how it performs.3 points

Greetings Fam So I've been around the weed scene for a while now, trying to keep track of whats going on and up to date with the latest laws. I must say, Cape Town has a BOOMING cannabis community and I wish I was closer to there to actively contribute to the scene. The thing is, even disregarding the lockdown, a lot of us can't travel at leisure for personal interest just like that. Gauteng and JHB have their hydro peeps that are growing some absolute fire as well. These places I've mentioned also have like proper cannabis stores and such, with a multitude of secret smoke shops, cafes and dispensaries. Now I do know that KZN (Durban and surrounding areas mostly) have their fair share of spots, but it's nothing when compared to the likes of those in CPT or the accessibility of the spots in JHB. We do have 1 dedicated grow store that I know of (not saying there aren't other based in KZN) but our Canna community just doesn't feel the same. What I would like to see is more community organised Cannabis events that are brought about by the community of growers that are confident enough to host such an event, and it would be awesome if those events can touch base in Durban more often than the likes of the CannaExpo and such. There are many things that can take place at the event but I guess the main aim would be to better connect the network of growers in KZN and hopefully help those that have the means to grow but just don't know how - because lets face it, growing is complicated if you starting off from scratch with just a seed, soil and a want to grow your own. The event should ultimately promote locally produced, quality products to show everyone that the companies in SA know their stuff and can give you the same type of products for a lower cost. Information online can be very misleading and it sets a lot of people on the wrong path from the very beginning. I've met so many people in Durban who want to grow, or who are growing, but are just doing things wrong because they don't understand the basics. For example, not knowing that it's better to compost organic waste and then use the composted mix, or not knowing that your roots need oxygen as well. So yeah... I don't know if what I've said makes complete sense, but i hope you guys get it. For what it's worth, I would be interested in helping in such events or anything in future if anyone reading this does actually take action and get this off the ground (I would if I had the means). Just browsing the subforums and decided I'd leave this here as it seems like the right place.3 points

The defoliation seems endless. These girls always bounce back so quick though. Starting to see some preflower beginning to form. I donked up a bit and one branch seems to be competing more than the rest on one plant. The rest are coming out pretty sweet. I don't really feel the need to attempt further LST on the rogue branch. The stems are super strong as intended so I'll take that over a perfect flat canapoy. The SCRoG net will sort that out in future. Otherwise the outside plant is doing swell as well. Loving the structure so far. Outside3 points

Okay, here we go. For topping your tree, it really depends on how your tree is growing. My first topping is generally done around day 21 of the trees life - at this stage it has the 5th or 6th node just separating from the last. It can be done earlier, but I try to look for when the growth of the tree is accelerating and time this with the topping so it's not always on day 21. I do this to take advantage of the natural growth spurt in hopes to aid the healing... And it works, my trees are always parked back up and growing in a few hours after being topped. When topping, after choosing which node you want to top the tree at, cut the stem between the nodes about 2/3rds of the way up - leaving a nice chunk of stem sticking up in the middle. This is done to provide support for the lateral branches once they pick up some weight and will prevent the main stem from splitting. After the first topping, the newer growth should be ready for another topping in about 1-2 weeks. You can repeat this as long as you like, to get however many colas you desire - just keep it manageable. Here's a link to a guide on RQS if you need some visual aids, and they do mention some other stuff as well. https://www.royalqueenseeds.com/blog-marijuana-pruning-topping-vs-fimming-n621 Sent from my POCOPHONE F1 using Tapatalk3 points

I wish I had more to compare... I'm gonna keep coming back here after each harvest to upload my numbers and compare them to previous runs. Now that I think of it, I'll do some calculations and check how efficient my microgrow ran with the Chinese Blurple. I got around 0.85gpw if I remember correctly, just need to go back and check the rest of the numbers. Sent from my POCOPHONE F1 using Tapatalk3 points

That shot looks pretty nice man, for real [emoji1377] Just zoom in a little with your phone and tap the screen so it auto adjusts focus and exposure, then take another shot. There are handheld digital microscopes that you can hook up to your laptop, PC or mac via USB and have a look at your buds in some real clear HD quality video feed. They are generally above 500 online on the cheap sites though, so you may have to do some looking but the slightly more expensive full HD ones are worth the money IMO. I want one but I don't want to buy it for that reason only. Sent from my POCOPHONE F1 using Tapatalk3 points

Yeah I feel you bro. Although I will admit, there has been more events here in Durban based on what you've said... But the whole vibe around it is full of uncertainty and I feel it's just a bit dodge because like, security, the kind of crowd, and the fact that weed is sold at a lot of these events, so like what about cops anymore... There were 2 spots (I was comfortable at one of them) that I could go to that weren't really far from me but bro, they were still selling weed to the patrons, so who knows what the hell is going on... Cops knew about it, and nothing... It's just becoming a legal way for people to do illegal things and it depends on the tips situation with the cops (if you know what I mean) - which is why I haven't really gotten involved or started anything (besides not having the expertise of event planning). It's part of the reason I chose to start growing my own. Everything that isn't set in stone just depends on a bunch of corruption here, whereas where there is a good community (like CPT) cops like kinda don't have a problem because there's an understanding I guess (from my knowledge - although I could be wrong because I've never lived there) Hopefully this post will generate some interest. This is true, and yes it is an achievement, but a simple 2-sided leaflet at a proposed event could be enough to give everyone that attends the basic knowledge for cannabis growing - in the same way we learnt how to grow that bean all those years ago. I mean, if people stop wasting money on cheap things that don't work, and save for things that do, it would make a big difference. And it doesn't necessarily have to cost money - for example we could teach people how to compost properly so that they can use their own soil, how to accurately identify male & female plants, stuff like that. This is what I hate the most, honestly. People ripping off ideas... Like at least give something back to the guy you got the idea from, lol... But yeah I agree, I may contact some people, or just try to plan one with a member from here, who knows!3 points

My bruh I had this exact thought after seeing your comment on the Zootly cannabis cup group. Firstly, I completely forgot about Zootly to begin with. Had a little look around their site, read a couple diary posts, and saw that they are based in Cape Town, like other industry founders like The Haze Club and Vape Store etc. The way you feel about Durban is the same I feel about where I stay. I claim JHB as my zone just because at the time I had been working there, but I'm actually based in Centurion. Their are tons of stoners here, but I can't say their ever has been a cannabis related event in this city (at least not in my adult weed life or that I'm aware of). We did have one Cannapax store though Just did some research and I see that the last time a cannabis event in Centurion was attempted was by The Dagga Couple in 2016. Link Further, also just read an article on the 420 cafe in Randburg (about 45mins drive from me). So I suppose one can see why I feel a little stranded A good start I would think is right here on the forum. My entry into the cannabis industry started here, and my meeting of the JHB crowd started with meeting and getting to know some members here. There are not many places without dedicating significant amounts of time to learn the basics of growing anything. I mean, all we really did in school was that one bean germination experiment using the 2l bottle in like Grade 4. So if one thinks about it, to achieve a successful grow with no previous experience in growing is actually quite the achievement (pats self on back). The way I see this snakey snake world work, I wouldn't be surprised someone rips the idea to try make a quick buck. This concept is your baby now @TheUltimateNoob, thou must owneth doth precious. If you really want it, send it to the universe and it may just come knocking.3 points

I was a late bloomer, but caught on quick. My first puff of homegrown swazi was at the age of 24. At a friends braai and he showed me his wardrobe full of drying branches. The smell of that cupboard was something I will never forget. He loaded a bong and told me told hold it, for as long as possible. I thought he meant to hold onto the bong. A soaring high hit me and it was love at first toke. I have never been anywhere near as baked, since that evening. I could hardly drive home from laughing so much and when I got into bed I couldn't sleep either. There were whirling mandala patterns spinning behind the lids of my eyes. The next day, i picked out the seed from a branch he gave me, found a big pot and sowed all the seed, in one go. Planted them in July and harvested the following May. 10 months later I had a few spindly buds and it was terrible to smoke, harsh as hell and the effect was non existant3 points

Been smoking since High Schoo (Probably started like 17-18 years ago.. How time flies!)l. Smoked everyday for years. We used to smoke 6 joints in the morning before school between 3 guys and after school we used to smoke until it was dark.. every day... Then i used to go home and smoke again a bit. I probably went through a good few years where the only time i wasnt high was the early parts of the morning lol. I never smoked too much "Indoor" as it was always too expensive and i never really noticed TOO much of a difference tbh so i always just bought "Greenhouse" . I even went through a spell at my first job where i used to buy "location zol' or 'ma-jut' from the hawkers outside which was full of seeds and shit quality.. so used to smoke it with DIY bongs and the high was terrible but intense if you smoked alot! but i kept smoking it anyways even though i wasnt enjoying it, or in the best place mentally lol.. . I literally didnt smoke a joint for that whole year and was just smoking whatever i could from a bong. When i did roll a joint, i used to put it in the bong and pull half the joint in one hit lol.. Been through alot of other drugs also but am clean of all those now. Long story short, those days are long gone and ive actually been smoking on and off for the past 3 years or so.. Been stopping and starting again in Holidays, December etc. Ive actually even stopped smoking cigarettes now and snoke only weed (Smoked cigarettes since i was 10) Then.. the lockdown came and ive been smoking full time again ever since. Bought some good quality stuff just before lockdown and started to build an appreciation for the good quality stuff. Problem was that the good quality stuff is a bit pricey.. so i thought that i could start growing my own batch with some of the extra T5 HO lighting i had around.. plus i also had a decent LED light (Gonna use it as a supplemental light when my babies start flowering).. Started doing some research and ended up here. Wanted to start off with what i had with little to no extra capital.. but here i am now like 8K+ later, hoping i can grow some good bud lol. Im enjoying the growing so far though and learning alot.. just very unsure on training methods etc. and whether i should be training.. what method etc. considering my space. Just topped last night, so im going to leave it like that and see what happens.. Maybe theres small inputs i can do here and there as the plants grow.. will see how it goes.3 points

What I'm hearing is a 8 plant 1.2kg yield challenge As stoked as I am to hear the amounts, which I think is bloody fantastic. 100g possession allowance in public? That's great! Means you can get your 1.2kg stash from house to house in only 12 trips! What I find interesting is that these 600g for singleton, 1.2kg per household numbers were already somewhat leaked in the beginning of the year. Then it seemed like a dream, I am glad that it stuck through. I am going to go through the actual bill .pdf and if I find something noteworthy I'll post about it. I'll attach it here as well. 2020-CannabisBill.pdf So far so good I think.2 points

An update: It’s official: Cabinet wants to let you have 1.2kg of dagga at home – if you don’t live alone https://www.businessinsider.co.za/sas-cannabis-law-is-heading-for-parliament-heres-what-a-previous-draft-allowed-2020-8 The Cannabis for Private Purposes Bill has been published ahead of its submission in Parliament. The draft law simultaneously criminalises smoking dagga in public or selling it, and sets limits on how much dried dagga individuals may own for private use. In its current form, the law allows homes to have dagga stashes of 1.2 kilograms – as long as at least two adults live there. Singletons are limited to 600 grams. South Africans will be allowed to give one another 100 grams of dried dagga at a time, or 30 seeds, as long as they do so for free. For more stories go to www.BusinessInsider.co.za. * This article has been updated throughout. A draft law that lays out the details of legal dagga posession in South Africa has now been published ahead of its submission to Parliament. The Cannabis for Private Purposes Bill is a successor to what was previously called the Regulation of Cannabis Bill, when it was circulated among some interested parties during 2019. The new draft, now approved by cabinet, has seen no significant structural changes, but sets different limits on what will be considered too much dagga to qualify as being for personal use. The Bill set a maximum jail term of 15 years for anyone who deals in cannabis, or provides it to a child. Anyone who smokes dagga in public, or too close to a window, or "in the immediate presence of any non-consenting adult person" may be jailed for up to two years. Smoking dagga around children, on the other hand, can come with up to four years in jail. Cannabis is defined as anything containing the psychoactive THC, and so would include vaping of dagga-derived liquids. Possessing commercial and "trafficable" quantities of dagga would remain criminal if the law were passed in its current form. Legal limits for personal, legal use at home are set to: unlimited for seeds and seedlings four flowering plants for those living alone, or eight for homes with two adults or more 600 grams of dried cannabis if you live alone, or 1.2 kilograms in homes with two or more adults. In public places, possession is set to 100 grams of cannabis or one flowering plant. For purposes of exchange between individuals – as long as there is absolutely no remuneration involved – limits are set to: 30 seeds or seedlings, or a mixture of the two one flowering plant 100 grams of dry cannabis. The draft law sets up a system of equivalency in which two immature cannabis plants equal one flowering plant, and five grams of fresh cannabis is equal to one gram of dried product. That means people will be able to exchange up to half a kilogram of fresh dagga in public, or may gift each other two immature plants. * This article was updated throughout after publication of the Cannabis for Private Purposes Bill, to replace information drawn from an older, unofficial draft of the Bill.2 points

Those are the ties I use bro. Okay so first, sorry for the ambiguity. The first time you're going to LST, you would be tying the main stem over to expose the lower branches... This is where the tree should be like 5 or 6 nodes tall so that it has enough stem to actually bend over and by this time the main stem will have some nice structure to it but still be able to be manipulated. When you're planning to LST a branch, my suggestion would be for you to wait for the branch develop 3 or 4 nodes off the main stem and then tie it down so that you'll be able to cover some decent area and also ensure there is enough internodal spacing between the new growth tips on the branch for your new lateral branches to spring up with room to grow. I was just referring the the main stem nodes and the side branch nodes separately. Effective LST would be tying down the main stem, letting the side branches grow out and then tying those down again... Repeat the cycle until you're happy with how big of a footprint your tree has (keeping in mind the growth spurt it will go through in flower) Then once you flower the tree, majority of the lateral branches that came up during and after all the LST will all sort of become main colas, and end up more uniform.
