@afternoon blazer yo man. Happy to give an update. I ran the full flux mainline on 2 ladies but due to insane growth of one lady I had to flip to flower earlier than I thought. Today is the end of week 3 since the flip to flower. I will also be able to tie down a bit better for a more broader and even canopy spread next time round. This is my 1st indoor grow so I learnt a lot through the process. The ladies grow so vigorously that they will yank stakes from the ground in order to grow vertical again, so a proper tie down without damaging the stem is crucial for the nice horizontal mainline. Hey all, So I was going to wait till my stuff arrived, but I figured I may as well show my grow tent build and then I can update about the first grow later on. I have a bunch of stuff that should hopefully be delivered within the next week so I can start my new grow (Pots, PH meter, soil, seeds, extractor etc). I bought 2 fem seeds earlier in the year and tried with that and some bag seed. But it was just too late to be starting in the season AND I was plagued with issues. But I have learnt a lot and have read even more and I hope that will pave the way to a great grow now. I am also moving indoor hence the thread My next seed order contains some auto's and some photo's. I am going to be starting with 2 critical autos from different seed banks. I want to run a few autos to try out some stuff and see the results. Anyways...to the tent! As I was trying to get this grow up and going with the "least" cost but still a good build, I decided not to buy a tent, and rather allocate that money to lights etc. This is the dedicated grow area. 80cm x 90cm x 200cm (but I could go higher). Its in a garage, so hanging the light should be easy. I decided to use 20mm conduit as I really only needed enough strength to hang the material around the tent. The light I am hanging from the roof. Even if I did want to hang the light in the tent, I think with a bit more roof structure it would manage the +- 3kg LED easily. Here I started on the first flat frame (for the front or back) and am checking the width fits in. Lots of 90 corners and t pieces Frame upright now (back) First support beam in. Sadly I didn't realize that the 90 corner and the T piece don't extend the same length. So when I cut the same width for top middle and bottom, the middle pulled in a little more. Its fine for now, will maybe replace eventually or just upgrade to a proper tent. So here you can see it pulling in, in the middle. Front frame and back Structure now joined front and back. I ended up adding another support which made it nice and rigid. I was resourceful and used "space" blankets AKA rescue blankets. 3 of them got me about 90% covered around. Completely covered. Little gap in front where I will be checking in. Top view down I then rolled out black painting sheeting, the stuff you get at builders to cover the floor when painting. Basically big trash bags. I covered all sides and then did an inset to the bottom as well as a roof that flaps over everything. Finished product, you can see my spot on top where I will connect the light. I ended up using only one of those and hanging an old small chain I had from it as the light has a cradle and single point to hang from. The chain is awesome, because with the carabiner, I can adjust the height quite easily. This doesn't cover the light getting in 100% but probably in the 90% region. As it is in a garage, I do not need to worry too much about light getting in. Currently I am also on a 12/12 flower cycle with it being on 6AM - 6PM. So even if there was outside light, it wouldn't;'t be much. I am considering reversing this on the next grow to get the light on at night and warm the tent ever so slightly for being an LED. But for now, this is where it is at. Tent finished and testing the 3 light modes (veg, veg+bloom, bloom). I hung the light from the open roof rafters in the garage so that worked out nicely. Outdoor plant finishing off flower in there. Sadly this was one of the learning curve plants. Week 5 flower and almost nothing on there. But this one was bag seed and as mentioned, the one to learn on. I am running a fan on #1 inside to get some light air circulation. I have a 150mm exhaust fan on order with ducting. So for now I am planning to pull air out the top of the tent, and passively let fresh air pull in from the bottom. As it is in the garage, I am not sure how fresh this air will be. Eventually I will have a second fan to push fresh air in. For now, if I have enough ducting, I may connect the ducting to the outside, so hopefully it pulls fresh air passively, else I will just let it pull air passively without the duct, from the garage "air". My garage is clean and not an oil filled smelling one, so no real worries there. I also worked out the air exchange for my cubic metres and I should have no issues there. I have also got a small 9w heating pad that I am using the keep the plant a bit warmer at night. Day temps at the moment are around 25 C. At night this is dropping to sub 15 C with winter approaching. The heating pad keeps the underside by the tray around 38C (I have one temp probe there) and the roots are around 20-22C from what I can tell (another temp 60% into the medium/soil). So as far as I understand it, as long as the roots are warm, the rest should be also. By the time summer comes, my air exchange will need to be good as the garage gets hot. But we will see. Also worried that at this point the 150mm fan will be too much and cause too much cooling. But I am not planning on running air exchange at night. Not sure if that is good, or if I should have air exchange when the light is not on? If I do need it, then I will set it up with a timer to run like 15min every hour or something. Oh and the most important bit, building this tent came in at under R450. Hence me wanting to do this, because as a first indoor grow, this should do compared to a 1500-2500 tent. Next steps >>>> Once all my stuff arrives, 2 x 40l pots are going in with the 2 different Critical Auto's. I will toss the current plant out then and give the tent a good bleach down clean. I have some powdery mildew on this plant, so want to avoid that hanging around.

I'm looking for testers willing to do grow diaries on 420sa. I can send 5 people free seeds as long as they pay for shipping. Postnet is preferable. The mother plant is a purple glam kush auto from bulk seed bank crossed with a purple KC'S Strawberry male. This pretty strain flowered outside in winter in the unloved section. But just look at what a cool phenotype she had, almost black. She gave 179 good seeds.

Nice progress... Just wanted to add, that ufo light can be much, much closer to your trees in flower. I had my ufo literally less that 20cm above the tops in my microgrow and never burnt anything. So try to find a sweet spot with height and coverage. Sent from my POCOPHONE F1 using Tapatalk

@Dank How's a little real estate there... Just enough for 1 plant ... And plus inter provincial travel now permitted so I can come once a week for IPM and pruning etc. You just need to water her for me every now and then...

I have no drains but I make sure no rain can get in and that it is moist in there but not soggy. Also thought about just making a pile but I am worried that all this rain is going to wash out the nutrients over time so I decided to go with the containers for now. I mix it through every 1-2 weeks to give it some ventilation though. So far no fungi .

Greetings 420 Fam. I've decided to put this thread together for the newbies to the indoor growing scene and anyone else that it may help. Anyway, it's for everyone to have a look at and hopefully it will give them a little bit of guidance when it comes to choosing the method of training that they want to use on their cannabis tree. Honestly, I wish someone broke it down for me when I started as it would've saved me a few months of experimenting by myself and accidentally coming across new methods somewhere random to try out. Anyway, here goes; Okay, so there's a lot to consider when you're aiming to increase your yield while not outgrowing the space you have available... Let's start with the simple stuff. My suggestion would be to research a bit on what you read here first before committing fully. Here's what you need to consider; - Acquiring good genetics (high yielding plant). Your bagseed flowers may look awesome, but most of the time it's genetics are a big twisted mess and stable genetics will yield you more bud per/m2. - Setting up a hydroponic system will get you a faster growth rate, but not necessarily a higher yield (although the time taken to get it would be shorter by a week or 2). - If you're using soil, you need a well mixed grow medium with enough drainage to ensure proper oxygen concentration in the root zone. - Use a good nutrient line if you aren't using living soil (it doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to work well). - Make sure your space isn't too big for your light (you may end up with airy, smaller buds or just a really slow growth rate if you ignore your limits here). - Ensure your plants get enough direct airflow to develop healthy, strong stems and so they receive ample fresh air. If you've considered of all of that, then you don't have much else to decide. LST works well, but it takes a lot of patience and when using it even with FIMing, but it isn't the most effective. This is because you still have to, in a way, let the plant grow normally and constantly train it to fit your space FIMing your tree will just give you more branches to train. The next 2 methods I'm going to mention are ways of making the plant grow into your space and it sort of has a predefined shape, which requires minimal training and even less once you decide to flower. Mainlining a tree requires less patience, and a bit of confidence when using this method because you will have to use some heavy HST with LST. I've used a slight variation of this on my last grow. I came out with about 204g of top shelf bud off a single tree (in a 70cm x 70cm tent). "Quadlining" has been coming up more recently and I've done this on a Microgrow I had running a while ago. You don't remove as much plant material as the previous method but the results are pretty similar. It requires slightly less time than Mainlining but also works well on maximizing yield... I was able to get 40g from 1sq ft off a single, small tree. Both these methods were effective at creating an even canopy with minimal LST and without the need of a net/trellis, but they do involve HST which means you will have recovery periods that add to your total length of the grow. I haven't tried any other methods, but from my understanding; ScrOG is one of the most effective at getting a maximum yield as this is a more controlled way of creating an even canopy and involves using a rigid screen through which you weave the tree as it grows. This makes maximum use of your space as you can decide what size grid to use and when you think its packed enough to flower. This method comes at the cost of a long veg time and regular maintenance, due to having to check which tops are growing pass the others and getting others in optimal positions. I'm not sure what other yield boosting techniques are commonly used but IMO; I think you're better off running your trees with the mainlining technique. Do some searching on Google to see how each of the methods work and see which one you'd feel comfortable doing. Everyone has their own preference I know this isn't a complete, thorough guide or like a how-to, but I hope it helps some of you. Feel free to also share the link with anyone that has a yield boosting question that can be answered by this post. If you're gonna add information to this thread, all I ask is that you please be sure of the methods you're posting. I've tried different methods and I've compiled this from my own experience. @TheUltimateNoob very true man. So for the next round I will also more actively adjust the stakes and soft training wire like you mentioned. I will also make more use of the training loops in my fabric pots. I also noticed on another thread that you use a skewer scaffolding manoeuvre to flatten the canopy. That might help to ensure more tie down points and less probability for the stakes being pulled out?

Hi there @Bay Seeds, you all well I hope. I would love to be involved with a little project with what would be 5 different grow styles, setup's and lights. I can imagine that's what a grow off will be like. Not sure if I would qualify though as it's only my first indoor grow I'll be done with in 2 weeks. I have a veg cabinet 700 x 500 x 900mm with a total of of 205w of cfl's. My flower cabinet is 900 x 900 x 1500mm using a QB75 bar from@growopz. I'll be adding 2 x 15w strips of can't remember now but it was the latest diode technology not far off Bridgelux. My grow height will be limited to 1000mm to allow for light adjustment. I use soil specially made for cuttings, seedling and grow, I do not use nutes as I can't afford them so I try and find natural ways of treating my plants and generally around our nursery. Borehole water 6.5 - 6.7pH. I will also be doing an outdoor grow under the elements and one in a shade house. Will you be donating ( gotta watch our words with new laws ) feminized or are they autos? What will the criteria be? I've been growing bag seed up to now, once again, can't afford decent seed. I was going to start a grow diary anyway and use the forum to steer me in the right direction in case someone spots me doing something wrong. Nice @Prom if its from a lekker source im sure u are going to enjoy em, some phenos are tastier than others, but its one of my all time favs i skeem.

You could even hang that UFO over the heater style fan, at a 15 to 20deg angle and use it close as side lighting and get under those fans leaves to get the bud sites below. Just a thought

Maybe just check with the guy here who have that fan, and if its silent or has a noise you can live with... I've got a TD silent, 100mm and it is hardly noticeable at all. But I need bigger soon.

Oh wait, it's not organics matter soil, it's grow station. Have not heard of many people using that as their "go to soil". The contents look right though, it's not barky? Just for the sake of experimenting, maybe give the ff premium mix or the just cannabis bags a go next time? Maybe check if you can see anything on the forum about people growing in that soil and see what they experienced..

Started a little FPJ cocktail on Wednesday, some Dandelion, Nasturtium, raw Aloe Vera, a few clover type leaves, some clover roots and a small uprooted male plant. Chopped it up a bit in a 5l ice cream tub, added roughly a quarter cup of brown sugar and filled it up with rain water. Now I try to stir it once every day for at least 7 days. I tilled the mound over again, added more of my home made compost as well as 10l of perlite for a start. Everything I added up to now is mainly to innoculate the soil with beneficial microbiology, increase carbon, as well as increasing food sources for microbes. Without enough food sources, carbon and air available, microbial populations can not thrive.

Yeah, I found either if the seeds are fresh, very fresh, or very old, they tend to have that issue, almost like the shell is to new and taught or old and taught Just to much taught

With guidance from the Peep's on the forum I ended up going the Growopz route and happy. Told the poor dude my grow space, what I had and my lousy budget and that I was considering diy. I added a bit of wood ash, and 10l of well aged leaf compost. I have this box of EcoVit lying around, so added roughly 250g before mixing again. After some tilling i gave the first water, mixed EM ProSoil at about 1ml a liter. Drainage is very poor at the moment, but to be expected with the clay present. I think I saw you mention Seagro. I am an avid fan of Seagro as a base nutrient during veg. Did you use throughout the cycle? And another quick question. I did a test of our tap water and it averages a PH in the low 7 range. Seagro is an acidic solution so can one assume that by mixing it with the tap water the PH would come down to the 6 range? Reason for the question is the fact that I use the manual PH testing kit and I struggle to see the colour reactions. Especially when testing after adding Seagro due to its dark colour.

Hi bro. I think you have a great thread going here. There is a lot of subjectivity when it comes to training methods and an overload of info on the Web. The holy grail being.. max yield, max potency. I eventually decided to go for an 8 cola mainline method on my 1st indoor grow. This after trying out various other LST and HST methods outdoors. I am currently running some different strains in my grow tent and some are taking more fondly to the top and tie down than the others. The washing machine strain from Ripper seeds is an epic pheno with insane growth. She loves the HST and recovers like a beast. Problem I have is that the other 4 strains arent necessarily taking to the HST like a champ. I am stressing that I will lose the advantage of an even canopy. Would you suggest tweaking the topping count per plant as they take to the training and recovery? Or adapt the training completely to include other LST/HST variants? Or should I perservere and just systematically top and train when they are ready without stressing too much on the difference in growth before I flip to flower? These ladies are currently almost 5 weeks old. First top and tie down on 3 of the ladies were over the past 2 days. 2 ladies still to show sufficient growth tip to tie down. Awe. *The lady in the black pot was a late entrant in the tent. She will not be part of the 8 cola mainline exercise.

So....some updates I have been battling a bit with warmth, the 2 heating pads were not enough and I was getting worried as I was getting below 15C. My dark period is now 12PM to 6PM to help with that. I also added a heater, checked that it is not going to burn anything and it now runs for 10mins then off for 20min. And repeats that cycle all day. Raises the "day" time/light on temp to around 23-25C and night time/light off will then obviously drop a little, but not too much. I just need to get another switch, so I can make it turn off for the 6 hours of lights off as it is a bar heater so the light will obviously disrupt it. I had 2 x 25w bulbs, but they only raised the temp a bit. I also automated the exhaust which runs for 5mins every hour. I'll probably increase this come end of veg/flower, but for now the thing is super powerful, so running all the time will just drop the temps too much. I added the ducting for exhaust as well as passive intake with a piece of filter cloth in front. Having the temp and humidity sensor is nice, now I can monitor it remotely. So thanks to @Prom for the suggestion of automation. I went with the Sonoff switches for ease of use. I also hung the fan off the stand and on the frame now. That way the humidifier can go underneath. This 1. Saves space, and 2. when the fan drips water, its not on the fan buttons, but on the humidifier. So much safer. My 2 photos are slowly coming along, and I popped an additional auto. Hoping the auto will be done by the time the other 2 start taking up more space, but lets see. The heater is on a ratchet now too (as well as the light) so I will move those as the plants grow. See the pics
