So thought I would start a new grow diary. I have abit of a mixed bag with autos and photos, but the autos will be moved outdoors as time goes (turns out my landlord is cool with me growing). On the left is Mexican Airlines and C4 from Fastbuds. Then on the right is Banana Daddy and Zour Apples. I am growing in the same 30L Organics Matters soil from my last grow as i never had cash for new dirt, i will wait and see if any problems arise. The Ethos ladies will be mainlined to 8 mains each while the Fastbuds girls might see some LST if required but i plan to let them grow free. All of them will be getting Biobizz Fish mix, Bloom, Grow and Topmax. I hacked up my light so I could move it around for better coverage. I really do need to invest in some proper lighting.6 points

If you’re worried about topping and the stress due to it (which I wouldn’t be ) you can always go with low stress training (it’s very simple) I had a clone gifted to me that I low stress trained , here are some before and after pics This was about a month and a half apart Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

@Psylecta even if you're growing from seed, after a month that plant is going to be fairly well sized and you'd likely have wanted to do some topping before 4 weeks to help speed things up a bit and help with the training. Not sure where you got the idea from that topping will affect the potency of the plant? It does not affect the potency of the plant, however training the plant will affect the yield and the size of the buds. Having a xmas tree with a single large cola and will yield a larger bud / head however the yield would be lower - having a trained plant could yield more although you'd have multiple smaller buds / heads. The size of the bud has nothing to do with the potency of it though. Training and going after a flat canopy helps you make better use of your lighting as well as the plant and budsites will all receive higher intensity levels of light as it will all be the same distance from the light where an xmas tree plant will receive high intensity levels of light at the top and as you go down the long cola the intensity of the light will naturally start to diminish. I am not saying there is a right or a wrong way, it comes down to personal preference and how interactive you want to be with your plants and your grow and so forth, although training a plant vs not training a plant does not affect the potency of the plant. Based on this theory, a mother plant which has lasted years and has had multiple cuttings taken from her and has been butchered to stay a nice size would have next to no potency - we all know this is not the case otherwise we'd not have some of the amazing strains we do nowadays as these special cuts of strains / phenos would lose their potency.3 points

Some decent growth happening. Moved two to my diy indoor setup. Ignore the middle one. Different grow Interesting test to see my lights vs the 3 left outdoor on the cape spring sun Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

I've had similar thoughts but it all boils down to interpretation, because if you live alone that alloiwance gets shredded in half allowing you only 4 plants/600g, they go on to define the max as being 8 plants/1.2kg for 2 adults, so using the argument of having 4 adults in the single household therefore merits the max being doubled won't stick because the max has been defined BUT there is more than enough ambiguity in the definition of a "household" to spin doctor the shit out of it in our favour (especially in this new day n age of subletting/house sharing) But there's many flaws, 8 plant limit would certainly make growing autos somewhat pointless - also what happens if you plant 8 trees in the ground and they take off growing 3m+? You could easily have 3kg growing on the branches & cop can say your 1 plant exceeds limits therefore we confiscating the other 7 even though you well within your plant limit. so yeah...alot of things would need to be clearly defined to avoid bullshit, needless to say we will overcome anything thrown at us, the fight has only begun brothers2 points

Here's what mine looks like so far... Need to get my Al plates drilled and tapped, then it's time for a jack and assembly! Need to find me some compression springs to put between the top steel plates as well.2 points

https://weedmaps.com/news/2020/08/an-in-depth-look-at-the-study-that-discovered-thcp-a-cannabinoid-more-potent-than-thc/ A new cannabinoid has been discovered, and the ramifications could be massive. Scientists funded by the UNIHEMP research project have discovered a new psychoactive molecule: Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabiphorol, or THCP; and they believe that there are great scientific implications for the phytocannabinoid. Phytocannabinoids are cannabinoid molecules that are specifically produced by plants. There are several types of cannabinoids, including endocannabinoids, synthetic cannabinoids, and phytocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids are compounds that are produced within the body by an organism's endocannabinoid system; and synthetic cannabinoids are man-made chemicals that cannot be found in nature. Phytocannabinoids, on the other hand, are a different beast altogether. They are those that naturally occur in plants and are found in a variety, including echinacea. However, the plant species in which phytocannabinoids are most prominent is cannabis. Because of cannabis' status as a Schedule I controlled substance in the US, there are several barriers that prohibit the scientific study of the plant and its constituents. Thus, a considerable portion of cannabis research takes place abroad. Many clinical and laboratory studies of cannabis take place in Israel and Canada, where there is federal research funding to support this work; but, the newly discovered THCP was characterized by a group of Italian scientists. Unlike the US, government funding for cannabis research is relatively commonplace in Europe. The discovery of THCP was enabled by the UNIHEMP project, which is sponsored by the European Regional Development Fund. A multi-disciplinary team of Italian scientists was responsible for the discovery of this novel cannabinoid, led by Giuseppe Cannazza of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The researchers' findings were published in late 2019 in the journal Nature. THCP is 33-times more active than THC Throughout the duration of the project, the group studied a medicinal cannabis cultivar, dubbed FM2, which was supplied by the Military Chemical Pharmaceutical Institute in Florence. Using a variety of scientific characterization techniques, the researchers observed two novel cannabinoids, THCP and CBDP, and isolated them from other cannabinoids that were present. Following this discovery, the group artificially synthesized THCP and CBDP to create reference materials, and the synthesized versions were successfully used to verify the natural expression of the two cannabinoids in the FM2 cultivar. After the confirmation of the identity of the two cannabinoids, the group turned its focus to THCP. To study the compound, they pursued an in vitro experiment with cultured cells. This experiment tested the binding affinity of THCP with CB1 and CB2 receptors, using synthetic cannabinoids as reference materials. It was shown that, when comparing THCP-related results to the previously reported data of other cannabinoids against the CB1 receptor, THCP is 33-times more active than delta-9 THC. This finding is critical because the group also found that the chemical was present in FM2 at 0.0029%, whereas THC was found to be expressed at 3.9%; so, even in smaller amounts, THCP is more active than THC. They also tested the cannabimimetic activity of the molecule. Cannabimimetic activity is a measure of how well a substance replicates the effects of more well-characterized cannabinoids which bind to the CB1 receptor. An in vivo experiment involving mice was performed. Herein, the influence of THCP on body temperature, spontaneous activity, immobility, and pain was determined — the results of these tests confirmed that THCP acts similarly to other cannabinoids like delta-9 THC. Will THCP be important? According to the study, even at lower doses, THCP has more cannabimimetic activity than THC. Further, the group posits that THCP could account for the wide variability of patient responses in cannabis-based therapies, even amongst cultivars with equal THC doses. This means that cannabis' psychotropic effects, which the scientific community attributes to THC, may actually be due to the presence of THCP. Unfortunately, none of the original researchers could be reached for comment. However, experts in the field do have varying opinions regarding the study. Dr. Cecilia J. Hillard of the Medical College of Wisconsin said, “I think it is well designed.” She goes on, “[The study] has two important gaps, in my opinion. First, they should have compared the in vivo effects of THCP to that of THC 'head to head' so that relative potencies could be assessed. Second, I would like to know whether THCP has greater efficacy to activate the [CB1 receptor] in particular. THC is relatively safe because it has low efficacy at the receptor. If THCP has high efficacy (like the synthetic analogs that have also increased the tail length), it is a more concerning finding, as it would suggest that strains making a lot of THCP could be more dangerous to use than those that do not.” Expanding on how THCP could be more dangerous, Hillard continued, “The so-called 'spice' compounds are synthetic agonists of the CB1 receptor. They are full agonists, meaning that they are very strong activators of the CB1 receptor. Compared to THC, these drugs have significant adverse effects and produce significant dependence (addiction). So, my issue is that we do not know yet whether THCP is like THC, a partial agonist, or like the synthetic compounds, a full agonist. And my concern is that, if it is the latter, cannabis strains high in THCP will have more adverse effects than those that are low.” Dr. Samuel Banister of The University of Sydney states, “[The study] was well designed and executed,” concurring with Dr. Hillard. However, he goes on to disagree with the group's assessment that THCP may account for the variability of psychotropic effects across various cannabis cultivars: “While this possibility cannot be ruled out, the known potency differences for THC and THCP at cannabinoid receptors is relatively small, while the difference in abundance of each in cannabis is enormous. The same is true of CBD and CBDP, although CBD requires even higher doses to achieve many of its pharmacological effects. For this reason, I do not feel that minor or trace phytocannabinoids like THCP or CBDP contribute significantly to the psychoactive effects of different cannabis strains.” How this novel cannabinoid plays out in both medical and recreational use is yet to be determined, as much more research is needed. Nonetheless, this new evidence suggests that analytical laboratories in US regulated markets may need to expand their testing panel to include THCP.1 point

What's up farmers, Walked into my lil greenhouse Today and realized I have 8 plants. Just need some clearing up on our laws in South Africa. How many is to many?1 point

So always has been a heated debate. I have personally flushed before - with plain water and with chelated stuff such as florakleen. I have also not flushed and I no longer flush. I feed my plants up until harvest. I stumbled upon this video, still busy watching it but a bit of research has been done on it and so far quite interesting. So far it seems as if there isn't much of a difference, I find it interesting though that with the terpene percentage, there certainly seems to be a trend though - could be coincidence. The longer the plant was flushed for, the lower the percentage of terpenes. However it's still a minimal difference and how noticeable it would be, unlikely I feel.1 point

Im really happy with the progress. They seem to like the greenhouse.. Although my other seedlings seem to stretch more than normal.. but I do not mind the stretch much..1 point

So the law has not been finalised just yet, but no more than 8 plants if there are 2 or more adults in the household1 point

Nothing wrong with HST, as long as its done right it can work well. I personally like to use a combination of HST and LST to achieve the type of plant I want. I know some who use just HST to achieve a similar result to me. Topping a plant isn't necessarily a bad thing, if the plant is happy and healthy the delay caused is minimal to almost none as far as I am concerned. You can easily take a cutting to flower in 6 to 8 weeks with it being bigger than a 20L fabric pot, trained and topped and over 30cm tall from the medium. Most likely closer to 6 weeks. Around 8 weeks if working from seed. You should yield at least 80g dry from such a plant too, a good strain could yield more. I have been helping some newbie growers out, they got some cuttings and 4 weeks in the cuttings were almost ready for flower - just waiting for the plant to grow a bit more but its already been topped, trained and has had the leaves defoliated multiple times. Sometimes doing all of this can actually speed up the growth of the plant I feel - although this is based on my opinion and not actual hard facts and science. The plants really seem to explode after having the leaves cleaned up and the smaller branches at the bottom removed. It no longer needs to use energy to maintain that, can use all of the energy on new growth.1 point

500 watt on what area? I use 430 watt on a 1.2x1.2 meter area and that is more then enough. Testing on reducing to 360 watt for same area... but the main issue with DIY lamps is, you guess your way through a grow on what distance to hang, or you get the tool to measure, what costs as much as a proper grow lamp. But the producers tell you in general what distance to hang for germ, veg and flower. You buy the lamps because of those information coming with. Since i measure the correct amount of light my autos grow 30 to 40% taller... and we still talk same time period. It went that far that i have to change my way of growing and try to learn how to reduce growing speed with light stress. But with the 8 plant max... i might just let them go undisturbed. The Bubblelicious i did outdoor last season, grew about 75cm tall. My indoor Bubblelicious, same Nirvana seeds, are over 1.20 in general, and not done yet Yes, it is very important to have the right spectrum, but you also need the right micro mol PAR on the plant or it will get stressed, to much or to little isnt to good and will affect the outcome.1 point

Made my say remove the limits to the amount of plants and cannabis allowed on one's property. Limits should only be for public spaces. There are no limits to the amount of alcohol or amount of bottles of alcohol one may have at home, or even a limit to how much moonshine one may produce, yet the commercial alcohol industry thrives without competition from the public, think 'craft beers'. They know that the cannabis market is solely in the black market at the moment so this bill is to prevent this thriving market from being a competition to the forthcoming legal cannabis industry.1 point

This Bill has the hands of 'Commerce' all over it! Big Pharma is fucking with your future. No profit for da Gubment, No law will be allowed to be fluanted! 15 Years !!! Its a looong time, for growing a fucking plant??!!?? Someone is supa Scared of Something!!1 point

..yes Edit: Although I'll probably have to rework it a bit to fit the current Bill, but I'll wait until it's official before I put the work in1 point

As someone who knows a little bit about the law and property leasing agreements, I can already see loopholes unless they have been accounted for. They will need to define "household", otherwise you can just "sign a lease" of one room in your house to a friend and boom. Your limits have doubled. Sign another lease and boom. Your limit has tripled.1 point

It looks like bulk seeds repacked. Where are you based? We need to start groups all over the country trading clones. If you have a great phno share it with people in your area. You never know it may evem make it back to you in 2 years time. We have gotten a nice group going in CT. We are swopping out and giving away great genetics so that we share everything. It is selfish keeping great stuff to yourself. Personal gain is over rated.1 point
