I weighed and jarred the 4 indoor soil plants; no training, all under a single 240W QB running at 200W at max. 3x Skywalker OG - 88g 1x Aurora Indica - 26g Total: 114g This was my first attempt with soil and I'm pleased with the result. I already knew the soil plants could have gone way longer in veg but I was forced to flip them early as the hydro plants were getting too far ahead. Overall it was a breeze growing in soil. I think coming from hydro allowed me to avoid a lot of rookie errors like overwatering or feeding too soon. I learnt quite a bit and I think I am prepared to give coco a go as a nice in-between of soil and hydro. I am going to let the hydro plants dry a few more days and then weigh and jar.6 points

So this plant came up by itself on the site of last year's sativa grow. Some type of hybrid, the leaves are massive and the stem is thick and soft. I didn't get the stem in the pic but you can see the leaves compared with a more normal specimen next to it. So what kind of bush might this be? I'm thinking is letting it mature just to see what happens.2 points

Small update here. I've decided to use LST for this grow, maybe a little earlier than the vast majority of the info online recommends. Let us see how this pans out. Stardawg - Day 17 Amnesia Haze - Day 17 ( i think this will need to be redone, there are issues with direction here)2 points

Chances of you figuring out what strain it is, is basically impossible. If you want and like it, then let it grow and flower it out. If you really want, you can take a cutting before flower if it turns out to be something you love - then you can continue to grow it from the cutting(s).2 points

Today my three Transkei origin plants went into their specially prepared holes in the ground. Their roots look fabulous and they went in intact and now look as happy as can be. My mystery purple plant is in a pot and has healthy cotyledons. I have set three more seeds to germinate. They are special phenos from a homey. Two are Durban landrace origin plants with different parentage and geographic origin. The third is a proper heirloom Transkei landrace seed. These three will also go into the ground when they are ready. Pictured here is my first ever batch of bacteria juice; then Holly, Molly and Polly in their new homes. I ended up getting the buckets from Mambos. The price was under R50 each which was what I was after. Alfalfa seeds (untreated, from Agricol) are ready for me to make my first batch of SST, but I will do that once the new seeds are in the ground too. For now I will just water the plants that are in the ground with tap water because the tank water is finished. They have plenty of living nutrition in their holes.2 points

GERMINATION: My first three seeds went into baggies on the evening of 9th September. The first popped on 11th and the remaining two popped on 12th. They are in cups in Western Cape coastal, mountain soil, and the first has popped it's cotyledons. The remaining two look set to pop cotyledons later today or tomorrow. The weather is now suitably above 13 degrees most of the time, so the sprouts will be able to metabolize. Spring has sprung and new leaves are starting to show all around the garden. Of our local landraces, I favour the Transkei. It has a beautiful clean high, creative, sociable and euphorically energizing. I am hoping to do a comparative grow with a different batch of Transkei origin seed and if I get lucky I might get a male out of this grow. I have tried harvesting pollen and it is not easy for me, but I hope to get it right this season if I am lucky enough. I am going to grow in the dark loamy soil in the garden, which is on a mountainside overlooking a bay. I am strongly considering Hugelkulture with some homemade amendments. I will take some Myccorhizae samples from the fynbos and inoculate my soil before transplanting. Last season I developed my own basic kasteel combo bug control juice, which I will treat the leaves with as a preventative measure. I will feed with Lactobacillus, kelp, castings and chicken poop. I will also mix in some bokashi bran when building my pile. If I can get hold of a small quantity of alfalfa pellets I will mash some of those in too.1 point

Hi, can anyone recommend a cheap dehumidifier that works well? I have a 1m x 1m tent in a small room. Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk1 point

Hi guys. Wanted to seek your opinion. Am I sitting with a hamaphrodite plant? If so will it be able to polenate my ladies?1 point

Sjo howzit. I'm ready to share what I've been up to since the last grow. Right from the get-go, I know this setup has flaws. I've got two different kinds of lights, three different strains and two different growing methods. I'd like to say this is on purpose but honestly it just kinda happened. Somewhere between an upgrade and circumstance I've now ended up here. I've decided I am going to do one last hoorah with DWC, going back to my roots from when I first began growing and also use the HID lamps I've had tucked away since acquiring my LED. I really like DWC, it's hellah fun and technical. I just love the amount of control you have with it. However I really want to do a serious ScrOG attempt next and the last time I did a ScrOG it was with DWC and couldn't even finish that grow If not DWC with a ScrOG, what medium to use then? I've never grown in a solid medium before so I'd have to learn soil/coco. So I decided to throw in a couple plants in Freedom Farms Premium Classic and have them grow in the space I had left in my tent aside from the DWC setups, so that I am not a complete n00b when I do the ScrOG. Did I mention I got a bigger tent? I am now rocking a 1.2x2.4x2.05 meter tent and oh boy, I think a ScrOG will do just super.. but that's next time. Why waste time and not just do the ScrOG now? Well, I've got some very nice seeds on the way (enough time for another grow) and I'd like to create a mother from that pack of seeds and then use clones from the mother to fill the ScrOG. I also do not feel like my previous DWC grow was very good either, so I want to get a solid one in before dumping the buckets. The plan is to do 4 DWC cooler boxes, same design as before. They will have 250W MH to veg and 400W HPS to flower. The ladies in the DWC will be mainlined into 8 queen colas each and I am going to be extremely aggressive on the defoliation. No kak cheap branches this time with poopy airy buds. I want 24 thicc and solid queen colas that look like the Grinch took a shit on my desk.. multiple times. After setting up the 4 DWC systems I couldn't help but notice that I had a third of my tent unused. I had already gotten a few extra things to expand my HID lamp setup to accommodate the increase in DWC buckets and number of plants, so I don't want to invest in more HID power. I want to keep the power below 1000W in the tent, I don't think anything more is necessary for what I'm doing. Although I have my 250W LED still, so I decided to just throw that into the tent in the unoccupied space and do two plants of the same strain in soil to learn the ropes. The two plants in soil turned into five plants.. during the propagation stage one seed didn't pop, so I decided to pop more seeds to compensate and got a little paranoid and decided to pop more than necessary in case some didn't germinate.. they all germinated. So now I have five plants in soil, 4 of which are the same strain, 1 is a very long flowering strain. Once again I have done this to myself, putting different strains with different flowering times in the same tent. But mama didn't raise no simp so imma let them finish as is. But bro why not use the 80x80x180 tent you have sitting empty now? It's way too cold to veg under LED and no heating. The beauty of HID lamps in Winter is that you get your photons and a comfortable temperature in your tent all in one! So I've just put the soil plants under the LED in the same tent so they can share the heat. I did however add a small heater with a Sonof switch just to help the temp with the dips at night and these wacky cold fronts. Also because of the different flowering times I can then use this smaller tent as a drying tent as a harvest. Even better, if the 5 soil plants get too big in their corner I can just take a few outside to flower Strains! My first grow and have found 2 of the 18 to be hermi. Might be due to the fact that this grow was from bag seed. O well. Still a nice experience and enjoying the process.1 point

Ya I've heard that GG#4 herms if you look at it funny. I myself have never experienced a hermi in my short growing endeavor.1 point

It is genetic and stress can trigger the hermaphroditic gene, sometimes more easily than others.1 point

Oh yeah. I've seen some crazy heatsinks on monster COBs. Spreading out smaller COBs gives many more advantages as opposed to a singular massive one.1 point

Thanks for the response. Damn and was such a nice grower. Will get rid of this one ASAP. Down to 11 from 18.1 point

I have started messing around a little while I wait for a seed delivery and my designated start date to arrive, recording my experiments as I go. Am new to all things growing so lots to learn!1 point

I have, not to say you wont run into issues but if you do not have a dehumidifier - then you gotta work with what you got. Spraying the plants to try keep possible issues at bay could help. Defoliation as well and ensure ample air circulation inside the tent to avoid stale spots.1 point

This is gonna be cool to follow! I enjoy the indigenous natural vibes going on here. In the earth as plants were intended. Local origin plants. And then a little science to spice it up and make the whole thing pop. Kudos. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk1 point

This winter run I added a humidity sensor to my exhaust fan and it's the first time I had no PM, looks like the humidity spiked when lights went of in the past and then my temp/exhaust fan didn't suck it out and it created a perfect inviorment for PM. That Sonoff sensors are just over R200 if I remember correctly. Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk1 point

@Slartibarfast keep in mind that the ambient humidity will be the lowest you will achieve in your tent. If you want it lower, the only way is with a dehumidifier. So best is to monitor the ambient RH of the room and perhaps even the house, then you know how far off the RH in the tent is compared to the room / house. Increasing the amount of air moving through the tent will help get rid of excess humidity in the tent. Any lower than the ambient humidity, you'd need a dehumidifier. I have decided to just stick it out and go with the flow as I do not really want to run a dehumidifier, so sometimes humidity is high during flower - just monitor for PM or spray something to help prevent PM from occurring.1 point

Any ideas on non-dehumidifier methods to lower tent humidity? I have a 1m x 1m tent and the room is probably around 3m x 3m with a door into the house passage and a single window. I am using ducting to exhaust tent air out the window and have 1 intake open. I have experimented with opening more intakes, opening the room door and increasing the temp on the dry air heater in the tent. Not having much success really. I have 2 flowering plants in the tent and the humidity is usually between 50% and 65%. I use a Blumat drip system for watering so there isn't excess water in the pots. Any advice would be super appreciated Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk1 point

Seedlings started leaning a little towards the window and the light. Weather hasn't been good so they cant go outside yet. Had a duh moment when I realised I already have a perfect germination light in the house already [emoji23] Seedlings are spending the weekend in Widgets tank BS #1 has got a bit yellow around the edges. Think some soil got stuck under the little leaves. He has grown quite a bit. BS#2 broke ground last night and remains in 2nd position so far. Hoping for movement from 3 later and 4 by the morning if their patterns hold. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk1 point
