Hermaphroditism can be a recessive trait in the plants genes, you just dont always know how reactive it is. In some plants depending on past breeding etc(genetic makeup) it may be closer to the surface ie: you look at it funny and it herms. In other plants it might be buried deep or be non existant ie: you can punish that plant with temps, lst, hst and she handles it like a champ. Some herm straight off the bat, others wait untill deep into flower(most evil) cause they can drop secret hermie pollen if you mis 1x effing pollen sac. Boils down to genetic stability, the growers experience with the strain. That's why bagseed can be intersting, but also a crap shoot and sometimes a complete f@#k-up.5 points

What up growmies. We at the end of Week 7 So from 6. We sort of left with 4 2 sunset autos 1 unknown bag Half a sunset auto maybe. Still getting 24 hours of light. 9 hours of full Sun when its available. The other 2 bags that were toped are not gona make it. Long story. 3 plants are growing great. Following the chart for feeding. The 1 auto looks really bleek. But i also screwd up tge watering with that lady. She was annoying me so i starved her abit. Still not flowering. Anyway. Will just wait it out. Pic 1 and 2 sunset autos Pic 3 bag seed Pic 4 problem child.4 points

The hydro is jarred, coming in at a cool 171g The buds are kinda airy though, many many popcorn buds too. This also happened with the last Green Smoke Room Seeds strain I grew. I won't be buying into their genetics again. That brings the total harvest to 285g Definitely the most I've ever yielded in one grow, but also pretty min considering the space and power used. I think it's an easy one to beat and I'll be attempting that in the next grow.3 points

I have a lot of loose seeds from over the few years plus a handful of seeds that I recently purchased off BnB. I am going to germinate all 15 of them and take the 12 best looking ones [or at least the 12 that survive] and pop them into 20L fabric pots with Gold Label 70/30 Coco/Perlite that I just recently discovered. The strains going into the gauntlet are: Zkittlez x Purple Punch - Ripper Seeds x3 Criminal+ - Ripper Seeds x3 Royal Gorilla - Royal Queen Seeds x1 Aurora Indica - Nirvana Seeds x4 Jock Horror - Nirvana Seeds x2 Grand Daddy Purple - Green Smoke Room Seeds x2 Seed drop 2 October 2020 Light cycle flip 17 November 2020 Harvest dates: 1x Criminal +: 14 January 2021 1 x Grand Daddy Purple: 14 January 2021 Everything else: 17-18 January 2021 Flowering times will not be a concern as I have a spare tent that will be used just as a drying tent. I also don't plan on cloning anything yet. When I am done with this bunch I want to decide on a regular seed strain, find a mother and really dedicate to that strain for a while, whatever it may be. So far we got some live ones popping up, the first 12 at least.. I'll update again when I've chosen and potted the Mighty 12.2 points

One thing I must say. Great wealth of knowledge on the forum. Very interesting and fun learning the intricacies of growing.2 points

GT Hydro sell the Gold Line coco, a bag of 45L of 100% coco (no perlite) is R299 I think.2 points

Howzit fine people. So 2 more days for a 2 week cure to be completed. Final cured weight is 13g Did a small sample last night. Smooth smoke. Not the strongest i have smoked. But packs a solid head high punch. Scent is along the lines of lime and sweet. After drying i had it in a jar with a 62 boveda. Burping every 2nd day. After a week i put in the 58 boveda. Really happy with the end product. The yield was abit low. But the plant details state its a low yielder. Also considering my lighting and it was the first Auto - cant really complain much. Thank you to everyone who had a input, suggestion, advise, tips and direction. Only getting better. Pic of the sampled head below.2 points

It is genetic and stress can trigger the hermaphroditic gene, sometimes more easily than others.2 points

Hi folks. So I've been following the forum and learnt a lot from fellow growers. This will be my second indoor run so I thought I might as well start a little grow diary. I have a thing for running different strains and trying to experience some of the fire genetics on offer. So in this cycle I will be running the following: Wedding Gelato - Royal Queen Seeds Purple Queen - Royal Queen Seeds Upper Cut - Oni Seeds Glookies - Barney's Farm Old School - Ripper Seeds Franco's Lemon Cheese - GHSC Chocolate Haze - Royal Queen Seeds *(Back up)* I started germination on the 19th of September with all 6 feminised seeds going straight into peat pellets. No water or wet paper towels for me, I have had 100% germination success with seeds straight into pellets. For some reason I feel handling the seed less during germination might be better. That being said... during the transplant from pellet to pot I accidentally broke the tap root of the Franco's lemon cheese in half.. It seems like the lady started growing sideways and when I removed the pellet from the tray the tap root snapped in half with that said a Chocolate Haze went into a peat pellet as reserve and I transplanted the broken Franco's with the hope of recovery. To my surprise Franco's started growing a new tap root without any cotelydon showing yet. So nursing her back to health now. I cut of the gaas from the peat pellets before transplanting to the final pot as I feel some of the gaas might stunt root growth by not allowing easy penetration through the meshy material. So today will be day 9 since germination and I am seeing some nice 2nd set of leaves developing. I also did a soil tup up today to get some of that stem shooting some extra roots. I will be running a full mainline training exercise in 20l pots on all the ladies bar those that might not like the High Stress Training so much. Looking forward to sharing the experience and getting some experienced growers to impart some knowledge. 19th September 23rd September 28 September1 point

Thanks for the help getting to this point everyone. Proper seeds are ordered and will be delivered soon. Following advice from @Prom I will start growing those at the end of this month. In the meantime I decided to pop some bag seeds to do a trial run. The plan is to grow them for a month in some homemade canna soil I found at nursery not far from my flat according to a google search. I put their details in my Post about Durban supplies. I'll attach a pic . Checked this morning and 3 had sprouted already. 1 had a taproot that was already around 1cm long. Maybe there is something to this full moon thing after all! Moved the 3 sprouts into a seedling tray and watered well. The other 3 are back on the modem. Little tray of joy Settling in on the windowsill till the weather settles1 point

Hey, just thought I'd share photos of my new grow. Growing OG Kush x Cheese and Sour Diesel. Attempting to mainline the OG Kush and just going to top and train the Sour Diesel. Any advice is appreciated if anyone spots anything wrong :D Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk1 point

Good to know. Much appreciated. All the ones I have attempted to grow on the windowsill have tended towards the tall and gangly side. They have all spent the last 2 days out in the sun while it lasts. Will try leave them out through the approaching front and only bring them in if it gets too wet. I still see a couple clear. I would wait until all are cloudy or until the trichomes on the sugar leaves start turning amber.1 point

Must have originated from Thailand... has balls and fooled you into thinking its a lady.1 point

These guys look like they are approaching being ready for harvest. I am think of starting the flush this weekend. So that I can harvest next weekend. Any advice on whether I'm considering doing this too late or early? Taking shots with the digital microscope is quite tricky but it looks like the trichomes are mostly cloudy at the moment? @Ill_Evan are you still going to run those Green Smoke Room seeds despite what you got from them in the last grow?1 point

Generally its always cheaper to do something yourself. You pay for the convenience. Want to service your car, the parts are only part of the cost. The labour is the rest and if you're doing it at the stealerships they charge a hefty price per hour. Same applies to food, growing it yourself is a fraction of the cost to buying it in the shops. Coco is no different. Hydrating the coco, washing it and buffering it and mixing it with perlite is quite a mission and a hassle for sure. So naturally buying it ready in a bag will come at a premium price. As for it being less than R70, depends where you are sourcing it all from but a 5KG brick expands to around 60L roughly and those sell for over R70 for a decent quality brick. Plus you gotta mix in some perlite. So overall you could get what's in the bag for less, but I do feel it the raw materials would cost you more - unless of course you are bringing it into SA in bulk yourself. The pricing on the coco and perlite is similar to the pricing on the soil people sell. R180 for 30L of soil vs R350 for 60L of coco & perlite, which works out to R175 for 30L of coco & perlite. When you think about it, soil is dirt and some amendments.1 point

Yay, there’s the puppy. Beautiful dog! Yes, nr 4 looks stunted and in my experience it won't really recover fully if it's an Autoflower. She's still gonna provide you with decent bud, but it's not going to be a lot.1 point
-
That price is madness. The raw materials for these blends is less than R70.1 point

My first grow and have found 2 of the 18 to be hermi. Might be due to the fact that this grow was from bag seed. O well. Still a nice experience and enjoying the process.1 point

Ya I've heard that GG#4 herms if you look at it funny. I myself have never experienced a hermi in my short growing endeavor.1 point

I weighed and jarred the 4 indoor soil plants; no training, all under a single 240W QB running at 200W at max. 3x Skywalker OG - 88g 1x Aurora Indica - 26g Total: 114g This was my first attempt with soil and I'm pleased with the result. I already knew the soil plants could have gone way longer in veg but I was forced to flip them early as the hydro plants were getting too far ahead. Overall it was a breeze growing in soil. I think coming from hydro allowed me to avoid a lot of rookie errors like overwatering or feeding too soon. I learnt quite a bit and I think I am prepared to give coco a go as a nice in-between of soil and hydro. I am going to let the hydro plants dry a few more days and then weigh and jar.1 point

Some friends of mine have used it and it seems to be great stuff, their plants are very happy. They've used some of the Goldline and then some 5kg bricks too. Plants are happy all around and you can't tell the difference between which coco is which. Their Goldline was the 100% coco though, they added their own perlite.1 point

Hey bru It wasn't rock hard dense but still pretty decent. What I did for the soil was I lightly dropped each pot a few times and added about 2 handfuls of living soil to each. Then i did exactly that...slowly watered. After about a week or so, they were fine. Harvest day for the cocopopo auto and gelato samba auto is today. I'll upload some pics after the chop. They're jut finishing their dark period. I germinated 2 Quarter Pounder Autos and planted them on Sunday. Also using living soil medium. I'll start a new diary for those girls The last picture is of the previous harvest.1 point

Sunday was one week for the trio. Fed one litre water with 1ml each of Root Juice, Acti Vera and Bio Heaven and Kelpack to each plant. Will water one litre water with 15ml coconut water to each this evening. Here's this morning's group shot. And individual shots. Blueberry #2 - The laggard Dashiki - My Daiquiri Lime Queen And finally, Agent Orange, my auto Orange baby! Feedback much appreciated.1 point

Day 25. Everything still looking good. Plants routine hasn't changed. Outside on average 10 hours a day then in the cabinet for 8 hours. Watering when needed, on average every 3 to 4 days. I tried my hand at LST'ing my Jack Berry and some other plants and when I looked back I had trained the 2 Glamberry as well. Holding thumbs. Must say that you can see a big difference in the growth in 24 hours. Looks a bit rough. Gotta start somewhere hey. Sent from my DRA-LX5 using Tapatalk1 point

So we are 15 days in since the 6 seeds were dropped in peat pellets. All the ladies are rooting very nicely. Franco's lemon cheese is almost there but not sure whether this shock early on will stunt the rest of her growth? The back up Chocolate Haze germinated successfully and was transplanted during the week. Still just sticking to very light watering every 2nd or 3rd odd day. Hoping the inherent nutes in the soil will last for 3 to 4 odd weeks. Stand out lady is already identified as Glookies. Super fast growth and very very tight node spacing. On the contrary Widget thanked me for the snack by chowing my most promising seedling and knocking the whole tray over [emoji849] My clever idea turns out not to have been so clever after all. Living (plant eating) animals and seedlings do not play well together [emoji23] RIP BS#1. While fixing everything I noticed plants 3 and 4 had sorta got stuck in their seed shells. I was nervous about cracking them completely off the seeds when I planted them... they didnt want to come off easily and I was scared of hurting them. Was this a bad move? They are both out now but looking somewhat brown. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk1 point

Seedlings started leaning a little towards the window and the light. Weather hasn't been good so they cant go outside yet. Had a duh moment when I realised I already have a perfect germination light in the house already [emoji23] Seedlings are spending the weekend in Widgets tank BS #1 has got a bit yellow around the edges. Think some soil got stuck under the little leaves. He has grown quite a bit. BS#2 broke ground last night and remains in 2nd position so far. Hoping for movement from 3 later and 4 by the morning if their patterns hold. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk1 point

Less than 24hrs after planting I have action. Bag Seed #1 showing early signs of being the 1/6 that may make it all the way. Checked the germination tray and the last of the 4 seeds from 1 particularly good batch of bought skyf has popped. The 2 unpopped are from a diff batch. One more day for them and then bin. Hoping maybe one of these seedling shows enough potential to spend the effort continuing the trial run beyond the one month mark. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk1 point

Just over 11 weeks now. Managed to get see the trichomes up close and personal. It looks like we got another 1 or 2 weeks. Was planning on harvesting the most purple pheno this weekend however I could only manage to find about 5 amber trichomes. Its been a bit of a bumpy ending and it seems they going to have to roll with the punches for a few more days. By now you can imagine the smells of dreams i'm tormented with everyday. Almost there...1 point

Day 18. Other than the one seed that didn't make it the remaining two seem to be doing their job. Minimal water as and when needed then roughly 10 hours outdoors and 8 hours under the lights. I've planted another seed, #4. This time no kitchen paper etc. Into water last Friday, into soil the Sunday and broke soil Tuesday. 10 days old now. I'm not adding nutrients at the moment, still not sure if I will. Off topic. Think I'm in trouble with the missus. She got home yesterday and I'd comandered and partitioned a 2m x 2m section of the garage. Sent from my DRA-LX5 using Tapatalk1 point

Unfortunately I may have to run at least one of them two of the three Zkittlez x Purple Punch seeds were duds, and they were the only duds, so I have only one plant left to cull for my Mighty 12 selection. The Mighty 12 is looking to be so far; Zkittlez x Purple Punch - Ripper Seeds x1 Criminal+ - Ripper Seeds x3 Royal Gorilla - Royal Queen Seeds x1 Aurora Indica - Nirvana Seeds x4 Jock Horror - Nirvana Seeds x2 Grand Daddy Purple - Green Smoke Room Seeds x10 points
