They definitely know their stuff, success doesn't come without it that's for sure. When are you planning on planting this new batch? Do you perhaps have a website? (Wanted to browse through your different strains or are they all logged here on forum?) Again anytime you need a tester am always happy to help local breeders build their name by logging a grow on forum and spreading the word - There's a strong market for localised genetics as I feel 90% of growers will buy local should the genetics be superior/on par with strains sourced internationally & developed with our climate in mind etc, sure the breeder will still rely & have to buy new genetics internationally, but that doesn't mean the average grower should be sourcing their stuff overseas and paying premium+import duties when there's perfectly dank strains/phenotypes being isolated & bred locally There's a huge gap in the market here in RSA which can be easy filled by locals if the government scraps the plant count or issues growing licenses for those that need to grow more than the prescribed quantity - not only does this generate much needed revenue it will also indirectly create many entrepreneurship opportunities for small/medium businesses & jobs will follow whereas only focusing on commercial wholesale/export opportunities like saphra does little to address the dire state of unemployment and lack of opportunity for the little fish in a emergimg market and this is a huge shame - the little guy should be given first opportunity then open up to the corporations instead of letting corporations corner and create a monopoly in the market which in turn will permanetlky shut the lil guy out as these corporations will lobby hard to keep the market to themselves Marx was right with his critisism of Capitalism, its inherently flawed & doomed to fail eventually (especially with central banks printing their way out a crises - highest global unemployment rate ever yet stock markets at all time highs) the laissez faire system will only benefit those who already have and leave behind the have nots, always been like this and little going to change until the revolution arrives That's my political/philosophical rant for the day lmao - time for a joint3 points

@Psylecta I hate paying R1000+ for a pack of 10 seeds when im pulling hundreds upon hundreds of seeds off a single big plant. Made me realize how greedy the big company's are with those giant grow rooms. Thats why my seeds will never be over a R100 for 5. I feel thats fair. I dont mind being the budget seed guy . More people end up growing my strains.2 points

@Batista gorgeous looking stash you had there bud. I'm sold, definitely going to give these bags a try.2 points

I'd also probably go bigger than necessary. Might be a bit tricky if you have multiple strains though. I think also the gram amount labelled for the terp bag should be considered the max with regards to the bag's ability to regulate the humidity.2 points

I've heard capemail hub can be potentially be an issue when sending seeds but mind you this was with regards to incoming international mail (i think) so I'm sure its more SARS/Customs intercepting than actual checks being do be at capemail - will see if I can find the thread, its somewhere here on 420sa1 point

Yip our tax goes to bailouts for SOE's and spent on pointless inquiries like Zondo - the leaks already revealed all the bullshit & corruption, so why when people go on the street to protest the goverments response is a commision to get to the bottom of this lmao and in the process they spending millions flying & feeding these assholes just to have them bullshit their involvement and point the finger elsewhere - all hearsay and finger pointing of everyone's accounts but no investigation from hawks?? would be cheaper to freeze & auction their assets off as proceeds of crime badaboom badabing Lol no need to go to China or Venezuela lol I'm not commie or socialist or for any one system, history has proved none work as intended, capitalism does work for the most part, man couldn't of achieved all the advancements across a variety of fields without it, but at a huge cost to society in general - my only issue with capitalism is only from an ethical/moral standpoint & people like Milton Friedman who believe because shareholders own the company therefore they the only spoke on the wheel that matters.....(like Michael Douglas's character in Wallstreet) if thats the case then companies dont need employees and the shareholders should report for work at company lmao......good luck with that Mr Friedman - can't have profits without employees..... its like the old argument what came first, chicken or egg? One things for sure regardless of who came first, the cock needs to cum first (excuse the pun) for the chicken to lay an egg......am starting to forget the point of this now1 point

@CoolJ Will send more, im prettty sure her buds are going to turn a dark purple blueish color, maby even the leaves. Im just going to use the sa post office if thats ok with you. Are you going to grow outdoor this season?1 point

I agree. I also think if someone is passionate and has the means they are probably at it already, but it'd be nice if the funds were taxable and a benefit to all. Unfortunately the use of our tax in the country is also a contended issue at the moment, so even that as a benefit is misleading. You can take your commie ass outta here and back to China!1 point

@Psylecta @Psylecta All F1's, im pretty sure they will be at least good. Dont think better. The guys from DNA,Humboldt,Dark horse really know their stuff. They use biotech testing to screen for any hermaphroditic traits. So im betting the offspring will be at least be herm free. But yes, this time of year they will thrive. I didnt want to wait for them to reveg. More excited for the seeds.1 point

Moving to new place in 2 weeks or so... then I have a bit more freedom... will still need to be semi discrete while I figure out my surroundings a bit though. Still plan on only choosing one of these to take all the way to harvest Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk1 point

Nice! The plants will finish at the same time, however growth may be a bit quicker with coco and fertigation vs soil and no nutes or nutes and watering every few days. Keen to see how it turns out and what the results are. Variables play a role too, but it will still be interesting to see.1 point

@John Stonedwell Hi and thank you. This is my first soil grow, so I am learning as I go too. I like the idea of growing local strains in local conditions. I like that it doesn't cost a lot to do. The results will be interesting to me. I have bean seeds on my shopping list. Beans and herb seedlings. I'm not going to try to propagate the herbs myself... headaches! What have you got growing?1 point

The one pheno I have is definitely a keeper. It did not strech t much in flower and already has the biggest buds in the room. The other pheno has the same terps but I can see the buds are not as compact but that could be that the light is a bit iffy. Getting a new light on friday for that side Of the tent. That first pheno must be the Ghost OG side of the genetics.1 point

@SkunkPharm I personally prefer fem seeds, growing regs is just a hassle as it means space will be a problem. I will never be able to maximize on my space in my flower tent when regs are involved - something will be thrown out of the mix. However I do grow regs if I have to, if its a good strain I want to grow and only comes as a regular. I also grew some GTH by Rare Dankness, such a lanky plant with huge internode spacing. Made for quite a challenging indoor grow as it was not growing the way I am use to and training was not having the effects I am use to. Eventually I managed to pull over 200g dry from that plant, it got really big too. Neglected a bit as well, but the smoke was decent. I harvested too early as well I feel, but I had no choice. The frost was lacking, the buds weren't massive and not dense either. Could have been my fault though. The smell and taste, I have not had any other plant smell or taste the same. Extremely unique and I found it quite pleasant. The high was decent too, not the most potent but I enjoyed it. With all of that being said, not sure I would grow it again. Stupidly long flowering plant. Probably needed like 16 weeks or more in flower to mature properly - at least the one I had. I'd rather grow it outside too, if I was able to.1 point

I agree there is lots of shit out there. I think if your starting out and you dont have the cash. You go through lots of shit before you realize that you have to pay for good genetics.1 point

Greetings Fam So I've been around the weed scene for a while now, trying to keep track of whats going on and up to date with the latest laws. I must say, Cape Town has a BOOMING cannabis community and I wish I was closer to there to actively contribute to the scene. The thing is, even disregarding the lockdown, a lot of us can't travel at leisure for personal interest just like that. Gauteng and JHB have their hydro peeps that are growing some absolute fire as well. These places I've mentioned also have like proper cannabis stores and such, with a multitude of secret smoke shops, cafes and dispensaries. Now I do know that KZN (Durban and surrounding areas mostly) have their fair share of spots, but it's nothing when compared to the likes of those in CPT or the accessibility of the spots in JHB. We do have 1 dedicated grow store that I know of (not saying there aren't other based in KZN) but our Canna community just doesn't feel the same. What I would like to see is more community organised Cannabis events that are brought about by the community of growers that are confident enough to host such an event, and it would be awesome if those events can touch base in Durban more often than the likes of the CannaExpo and such. There are many things that can take place at the event but I guess the main aim would be to better connect the network of growers in KZN and hopefully help those that have the means to grow but just don't know how - because lets face it, growing is complicated if you starting off from scratch with just a seed, soil and a want to grow your own. The event should ultimately promote locally produced, quality products to show everyone that the companies in SA know their stuff and can give you the same type of products for a lower cost. Information online can be very misleading and it sets a lot of people on the wrong path from the very beginning. I've met so many people in Durban who want to grow, or who are growing, but are just doing things wrong because they don't understand the basics. For example, not knowing that it's better to compost organic waste and then use the composted mix, or not knowing that your roots need oxygen as well. So yeah... I don't know if what I've said makes complete sense, but i hope you guys get it. For what it's worth, I would be interested in helping in such events or anything in future if anyone reading this does actually take action and get this off the ground (I would if I had the means). Just browsing the subforums and decided I'd leave this here as it seems like the right place.1 point

I really wish we had a "dab bar" where they have all the gadgets and you just bring your own herb.1 point
-
Yeah I feel you bro. Although I will admit, there has been more events here in Durban based on what you've said... But the whole vibe around it is full of uncertainty and I feel it's just a bit dodge because like, security, the kind of crowd, and the fact that weed is sold at a lot of these events, so like what about cops anymore... There were 2 spots (I was comfortable at one of them) that I could go to that weren't really far from me but bro, they were still selling weed to the patrons, so who knows what the hell is going on... Cops knew about it, and nothing... It's just becoming a legal way for people to do illegal things and it depends on the tips situation with the cops (if you know what I mean) - which is why I haven't really gotten involved or started anything (besides not having the expertise of event planning). It's part of the reason I chose to start growing my own. Everything that isn't set in stone just depends on a bunch of corruption here, whereas where there is a good community (like CPT) cops like kinda don't have a problem because there's an understanding I guess (from my knowledge - although I could be wrong because I've never lived there) Hopefully this post will generate some interest. This is true, and yes it is an achievement, but a simple 2-sided leaflet at a proposed event could be enough to give everyone that attends the basic knowledge for cannabis growing - in the same way we learnt how to grow that bean all those years ago. I mean, if people stop wasting money on cheap things that don't work, and save for things that do, it would make a big difference. And it doesn't necessarily have to cost money - for example we could teach people how to compost properly so that they can use their own soil, how to accurately identify male & female plants, stuff like that. This is what I hate the most, honestly. People ripping off ideas... Like at least give something back to the guy you got the idea from, lol... But yeah I agree, I may contact some people, or just try to plan one with a member from here, who knows!1 point

My bruh I had this exact thought after seeing your comment on the Zootly cannabis cup group. Firstly, I completely forgot about Zootly to begin with. Had a little look around their site, read a couple diary posts, and saw that they are based in Cape Town, like other industry founders like The Haze Club and Vape Store etc. The way you feel about Durban is the same I feel about where I stay. I claim JHB as my zone just because at the time I had been working there, but I'm actually based in Centurion. Their are tons of stoners here, but I can't say their ever has been a cannabis related event in this city (at least not in my adult weed life or that I'm aware of). We did have one Cannapax store though Just did some research and I see that the last time a cannabis event in Centurion was attempted was by The Dagga Couple in 2016. Link Further, also just read an article on the 420 cafe in Randburg (about 45mins drive from me). So I suppose one can see why I feel a little stranded A good start I would think is right here on the forum. My entry into the cannabis industry started here, and my meeting of the JHB crowd started with meeting and getting to know some members here. There are not many places without dedicating significant amounts of time to learn the basics of growing anything. I mean, all we really did in school was that one bean germination experiment using the 2l bottle in like Grade 4. So if one thinks about it, to achieve a successful grow with no previous experience in growing is actually quite the achievement (pats self on back). The way I see this snakey snake world work, I wouldn't be surprised someone rips the idea to try make a quick buck. This concept is your baby now @TheUltimateNoob, thou must owneth doth precious. If you really want it, send it to the universe and it may just come knocking.1 point

Hey guys, Figured that I would update that my seeds arrived this morning much to my surprise! Well, most of them...one seed was crushed and semi-disintegrated I’d swerve these guys in the future unless these genetics surprise me...but happy I’ve got some (in my mind right now) free beans!1 point

At the moment we still have lockdown.. and any normal parcel not running priority or Express.. has HUGE delays... just to point that out. Communication is a issue down here hehehe I never used SACF.. never even heard of them So can't comment on their reliability. If you are in a rush to get seeds, Marijuanaseeds.co.za are very fast.. is it on stock, CT has it delivered the next day. Rest, there are quite a few. I think making a page to shame dealers not doing their job or scammers, might be a nice addon to the site.1 point

If the strain is bred properly and stabilized there is very little to no chance of genetic abnormalities or weaknesses.1 point

I think the topic of landrace strains deserves a thread of it's own. I'm not even sure they exist anymore from all the human intervention, but that depends on how strict your definition of landrace is. Kinda like the argument regarding organic growing1 point

LOL I'll choon the stomata on underside of your prized bagseed I have grown a decent amount of bagseed out, more than 100 for sure. Is very rare to find one plant that's decent. And even rarer to find someone who is willing to take cuttings of something they have never smoked or flowered. Im saying that out of 10 bagseed plants, you might find 1 or 2 that are okay But with paid for genetics out of ten, you will get 7 or 8 or more decent plants. It's really not fun spending weeks or months growing a plant you think will be amazing! And then after harvest it's not what you are looking for at all. You can carry on doing you bru... But don't for a second think you are doing yourself a favor by not growing tried and tested genetics from well spoken of seed companies.1 point
