  1. Some @Totemic Sure the hype is real on this one, and for good reason. Managed to get 6 of them up and at ’em ... looking forward to these, hope to find some good females.

  2. R1k seems a bit high to me, unless your electricity rate is stupidly high. LED light = 260w draw, taking into account the less than 100% efficient LED driver 2x fans = 120w draw (60w each) Total power = 380W let's call it, however fans are likely more efficient than that and that is also if you run the light at 100% all of the time. I personally do not like doing it like this, dim it during germination and increase watts slowly as the plants get bigger and require more light. I know @Prom just runs it 100% and adjusts the height. Both ways work, dimming lights will help save power though. Average electricity price is around R1.64 let's call it, the tiers actually start at a lower rate but let's assume you are on a higher rate and round up to R1.7 per KWH. Light = 260w x 20 hours x 31 days = 161.2 KWH Fan = 120w x 24 hours x 31 days = 89.28KWH Total KWH a month = 250.48 x R1.70 = R425.82 If it takes 3 months from seed to harvest, even if we round up to R500 for electricity per month that comes to R1500 for 3 months. If you harvest 300g dry, that is R5/g in terms of cost of electricity on your dry bud. Obviously there are other costs to consider as well - medium, nutrients, seeds, sprays, equipment and most importantly your time and effort. Even if you do a photoperiod grow and it takes 5 months from seed to harvest and you manage to pull 300g it works out to 60g a month and meets your requirements. @Stinger96 I was looking into solar recently. It does not make sense to run your grow off the batteries, will cost far too much to run it entirely off the batteries if you have a decent sized grow. I was thinking a grid tied system could work well, however you'd then need to have lights on during the day to benefit from the solar providing power when the sun is out. When the sun goes down then it can draw power from Eskom or if the solar panels are not producing enough power the deficit can be drawn from Eskom. Even if it helps reduce your monthly electricity usage and offers some savings it can be worth it. For a house, typically one would require batteries though as during the day when the sun is out you are at work. So electricity usage at home is minimal, unless you are growing. At night is when you are home and no sun there, so gotta draw power from the batteries and then let the panels charge up the battery the next day once the sun is out again. What causes issues is the bigger appliances, such as the aircon, oven, microwave and geyser. At around 2KW or more each, your draw adds up very quickly and would require a massive inverter. One may not use all of these appliances at the same time, but it is not impossible. Heatwave in summer, boiling hot at 6PM so AC is on, you are in the kitchen busy cooking while the GF is taking a shower. So getting completely off the grid can be a costly experience or requires compromise. A system which works together with the Eskom mains is more ideal I feel and can help reduce electricity costs quite significantly. Just a pitty about the monthly connection fee as that effectively makes your first few units really expensive and it becomes cheaper as you use more - if you factor in that cost which is close to R500 a month. Bleh.

  6. I was super stoked this morning when my package arrived from @Daggafontein Genetics. Not only did they resend me a pack of Gardener's Delight seeds, they also send me a pack of African Buddha seeds and some coir pots as well! That is 5 star customer service right there! Thank you Bob and Daggafontein Genetics. You guys rock! To top it off, all 4 Gardeners Delight seeds that I have planted on Sunday 15th have germinated and are going along happy and strong. No action from the 4 Diesoline seeds that I planted the same day. I also planted 4 Candy IV seeds from Daggafontein on the 16th and 2 of them have germinated and are breaking through the soil. I've made some extra space and the African Buddha will make a very welcome appearance as well... 8. i do see quite a few fat swollen calyx so i would say harvest now and make the best of it. The reveg will mean you will need to cut all the flowers off soon anyways, so might as well cull it and plant some new fire!!

  9. So this is my second attempt at a grow. The first ended in disaster after about 2 days when a worm crawled up out of the soil and ate both cotyledons in one day. I waited a little bit longer before posting this because it took me longer to write the forum post last time than I manged to keep the plant alive. I am growing 2 seeds. The intention is to put one indoor under lights and one outdoors and compare the results (I am going to add both to this grow report).I have planted both in their final 20l fabric pots and have used a mix of compost, coco-peat, garden soil and worm castings as the growing medium. I cut a toilet roll if half and put it over the seedlings to hopefully keep worms out. I am using water from the koi pond to water the plants (is this a good idea)? I dropped the seeds in a glass of water till they sank (took around 18 hours) and planted them immediately afterwards) The seeds sprouted 2 to 3 days ago (2 days after being planted) and I can now see the first true leaves forming. The one plant broke soil really easily and I didn't have enough light on it for the first 24 hours. It stretched quite a bit during this time (photo attached). The second one had a bit of trouble breaking the soil so it stayed a bit more compact and had sufficient light since being exposed to air. Is the stretching of the first seedling something I should be concerned about? Is it going to have long term effects during the grow? Should it affect my decision of which plant to put inside and which one to grow outside? It is about 10cm high at the moment while the other one is less than 2cm.

  17. What medium you running there? - looks very "Barky" - Id be a bit worried the medium is a bit too hot for seedlings, especially since (if i recall correctly) the previous seeds didnt do well because of the medium, wasnt it? Im sure you corrected that if that was the casea already but just keep a close eye as the leaves look a tad bit light for my liking, however might just be the strain

  21. Good question and have often wondered myself. I feel it saves more and forces us to use less hot water. I have the timer on for 2 and a half hours in the morning and I find that the water is still pretty hot the next morning when the geyser kicks on again so not as much energy needs to be used to get the water up to temp again. Climate does help this though with our days frequently being between 30 and 40C. Winter is a different story. I'd have to test the theory to be sure and leave the geyser on for 3 days, measure total consumption and then use the timer for 3 days and measure consumption. Could be interesting.

  22. @Cracks Ruderalis does not have a very high THC content, I believe it is less than 3%. I believe the CBD levels may be higher but not sure how high in terms of percentage, it would vary between strains and plants as well. Depending on what you want to achieve, I'd say get some seeds for a strain which is suited to that purpose. Autoflowers are typically a cross between ruderalis (somewhere in the lineage) and other plants which may be high in CBD or high in THC. Typically one would want to keep the autoflowering characteristics of the ruderalis and then try get the other characteristics of the plant its being bred with. Are you wanting to get high THC or high CBD? Is there a reason you want to go for an autoflowering plant?

  27. You need to check the trichomes as to when the plant is ready to harvest, a microscope or loupe is what you need. However as @SkunkPharm mentioned, it looks as if the plant is revegging, outdoor season right now is veg mode. So either take it indoors and force it back into flower or let it veg, get HUGE and then harvest next year.

  29. Hey guys! I think I may have been doing this all wrong, by this I mean I should have been working out this thing "backwards". After discussing with @Prom what I realised was that I should look at my monthly consumption first as this will give me an idea on what size tent I will need. (Monthly consumption around 50g) Also these were his comments, posted below, (with his permission), regarding running costs. Lemme have your thoughts as well guys. The below text from @Prom does put "things" into perspective for me anyways. From @Prom : "I pulled 300g prime buds from the 1.2x0.6 in 3 months with a non effort grow, nothing but feeding the plants. 50g a month, no Sir, not the 1.2x1.2... way to big for you Autos perfect... you will have a good time, as long as all stays below 26 degrees. The 1.2x0.6 will set you back around 1k a month on electricity.. the 1.2x1.2.. 2k... and so on hehehe so growing your 300g prime buds will cost you at least 3k electricity, plus fertilizer and your work time." "Yes, the lights will run 20 hours a day and your ventilation never stops 24/7. The 250 watt light plus the desk fan and occilating one... should hit you with about 1000 rand a month, Eskom not expected to lower prices. Buying the material is the cheap part. Eskom overtakes your investment cost within a year. Counts for all tent sizes you can buy. Running them is the real pain. So you want to be as efficient as you can.. rest is just wasted cash"

  30. Autoflowers are fussy plants. If you dont know them. The plant will start flowering independent of light cycle. What you have to know is the plant will start flowering as soon as the tap root hits the bottom of the pot. Thus you need to plant them in the pot you want to flower in. I recommend a 20l pot for outdoors. Also they don't want to be fed heavilly. The need a very airy soil. Buy the right genetics. Mephisto, nightOwl and ethos has some amasing flowers.

  31. Welcome @Cracks! Are you talking about autoflowers or pure Ruderalis? I am going to assume autoflowers as you likely want some thc. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners as any mistakes made can set the plant back and affect your yield. However its not particularly difficult, so after you've done a grow or two you should be more than capable of growing some autos without hiccups.

  38. Hey Candyman, sorry to see you are having problems with our seeds. We will definitely replace your beans or give you a refund. I'll DM you next. This is the first we have heard of germination issues this season and we appreciate any feedback we get. We have run germination tests recently on Gardeners Delight and had 28/30 pop successfully and are now healthy plants growing at a rapid rate. I have forwarded your post to Stu (our genetics dude) and will update you as soon as I have his feedback as to what could have gone wrong. Our seeds are from the 2019/20 grow season, harvested in March this year. For reference, the attached images below show our latest test grow. The seeds were planted 0.5-1cm below soil and germinated directly in the coir pots, without a pre-soak as the pots sitting in water keep them moist enough. First signs of them popping was after 4 days. We prefer this method as we don't have to worry about damage during transplant and the tap root gets a chance to properly take hold. We then put the coir pot and seedling directly in the soil. This method has worked a treat. I will be running tests next week using the method you used. Sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment, hopefully we can make up for it. iRiE Bob

If you making reference to the extra sheet at the bottom, from my understanding it's meant to be a splash guard more than holding water I guess, and there for in case. Possibly put a plastic sheet over or under it for safety and protection. Pictures or it never happened Super happy for you
