69 Days From Seed / 23 Days From Flip I always enjoy this part of the grow when the development of the buds are most prominent and observable from day to day I've cleaned up the lower parts of the plants since the last update to allow for easier watering and to focus the energy to the mid/upper parts. Canopy is sitting at about 30cm thick and light penetration for the most part is hitting every bud sight. Watering now about every 3 days. These girls can take a total of 50L to get fully fed. The supercropped girl has also come out very well and I most certainly will add the technique to my arsenal of tricks for future grows. 100% would recommend for eager plants wanting to grow a little taller than needed. I've also only now popped on the carbon filter. Don't want to get the neighbors too excited just yet they're just as excited as I am to test out the assortment of strains I will soon have. Can I call this a dagga lab yet?4 points

This last year or two has been challenging and interesting. I have been the topic of both good and bad conversations. Realizing that it is because people generally don't know who I am, is why it has been such a multi polar experience. I started growing 10 years ago, fumbled around with bags seeds for a year or two, before gaining access to other imported genetics. What started me on my breeding journey was when I was given the Chocolope seeds from DNA genetics by another well known growmie back in 2013, who has undoubtedly touched all your lives in some way or another. I have since bred a few strains over the years, and established a rythem within the micro-breeding sector. The state of Cannabis back then was still rough, and most of my work had to be low key, and there are a few of the OG's on here that have been following what I have been doing. Even now I keep a lot of what I do low key, and within the reasonable limits that prevail. I am a father to two teenage boys, husband to a beautiful wife, and earn my living in the property maintenance sector. Cannabis is my passion though, and where all the extra time in my life pours into, and over the last 2 years I have been gravitating toward a full-time commitment. Sharing this through my seeds, my activism, is part of my drive to free the plant. Doing this has inadvertently thrust me into the public. A place I'm not yet used to or comfortable in as I'm generally a private person. However, I thought it a good place to treat this thread as a Q&A about my breeding. Here are a few that have have already recently popped up: Q: Where do you get your seeds? A: I do all my own pollination, and produce my own seeds. The plants I breed with are selected cuts from the original breeders seed stock and my own seed stock. Q: How do you manage to pheno hunt with so few plants? A: My pheno hunting spans across many growers tents, gardens and farm spaces, besides my own space. Q: Do you sell other peoples work/gear and pass it off as your own? A: No. I see myself as an ethical breeder. I am transparent about the genetics I work with, and credit the original breeder and their work. Q: Do you have any autos? A: No. Although there is a demand for them, to protect the photoperiod genetics I work with, I will not be working with autos at all into the foreseeable future. EDIT: I have since this actually started working on a few autoflower crosses, since making major changes to my setup. Q: Why are your prices so low? A: We are at an automatic disadvantage with our poor exchange rate when importing seeds. This makes it inaccessible to many more than you think. Part of my mission is to make good quality genetics available at prices everyone can afford. So, what do you want to know?2 points

Interesting, just goes to show how everyone is different and how these substances affect us differently. Weed gets me in a very different zone to where I need to be when I want to lift weights.2 points
-
I am the opposite. I love lifting weights when buzzed, especially if I have an old school rock sound track to accompany it. I find i tend to zone out from lifes interruptions and it helps with the mind/muscle connection. I believe arnie was a big time stoner when in the gym.2 points

She looks really good to me bru, you got her nice and bushy. My plant grew straight up with one main cola. As mentioned above, try to open up that canopy to let light through and tuck the leaves that covering bud sites. I can already see the purple bud starting, they are beautiful when trichomes are sparkling and pistils have turned orange. Wait for the smell bru, it's hard to describe but a real treat.2 points

@Chris Jay the way you felt sounds more trippy to me, more like a psychedelic high compared to cannabis high. However it seems some people do infact find cannabis to be a bit psychedelic and trippy, I suppose they just have a natural, lower tolerance to it than I do. Quite interesting I find, but similar occurrences are common - everybody reacts to different substances in a different way. 40mg of cannabis will affect one person in a certain way and another person in a completely different way and the same applies to various other substances. I seldom find cannabis to be energizing, does not rally stimulate me much. However dabs I tend to find more stimulating in terms of the high and when cannabis is mixed with caffeine, the effects are quite different compared to just cannabis or just caffeine by itself. It turns into more of a stimulating high, one where I am able to be more active. I do not enjoy running in general, I'd much rather cycle than run. Never tried to cycle while high though. Gym and lifting weights while high, that was a joke and a waste of time. The weed made me faaar too lazy and gave me a bit of a "I do not care" attitude where trying to lift heavy weights was a complete waste a time and felt like a lot more effort than usual.2 points

Just try manipulate the plant to ensure as many of the budsites get light as possible and that leaves are not blocking the light and also to ensure there is sufficient airflow through the canopy. Doesn't look terribly dense though, so shouldn't be too much of a worry but will still help a bit.2 points

So first two that started outside and flowered just got chopped. One cola plants. Hi guys, My partner will be on the Hotbox show this Thursday to discuss Golden Goose, and to give away a sweet hoodie and a pack of seeds. Which pack of seeds do you think we should give away? Unfortunately Headbanger is out. Not due to the price, but those beans are a little hard to come by. So we would like to retain our stock of that strain for as long as possible. I hope you understand. Hopefully I can get a few suggestions from you guys before Thursday. Cheers!2 points

expert grower my ass! Hehehehe average.. I am a average grower with a bit of experience. Also have to say.. I think the moderators of the board do a very good job, see zero reason why I should have some 'role' here. Beside my English is just not up to the task. Best advice I can give.. enjoy what you do and it will always end well. Have a sexy weekend folks!2 points

The point of a diary is not to brag.. OK.. yes, also to brag BUT... a beginner diary and you had issues before, will help you improve, as it is a lot easier to give accurate advice, when we see more detailed, what you did. I encourage every new grower to run a as detailed diary as they can.. and there are enough competent people on the board to point you already to possible issues... before they even happen. If you still run into trouble, way easier to figure out what happened with a diary.. we learn from mistakes, don't be afraid to make some.. or you miss out I just burned 25 seedlings.. rather bad ^^ fuck ups will happen, doesn't matter if you just start or grow for 30 years. And that is a bit the fun part.. or after 30 years it would be boring as hell ... and it isn't2 points

Hi, does my latest grow look okay health wise? Any risks of growing an auto this big? The plant is a Fastbudz C4 Auto in 20l pot with coco. She's about 6 weeks in and I have both LST'ed and Supercropped a bit. My only concern is that my last grow that was this big ended up growing some really thin airy buds. But that was from a pack of free seeds from Cape Ape. Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk1 point

Saw your attempted hijacking @Heteropyxis and thought of creating a thread about running while high. Its something I have loved doing for zonks. 21km on 400mg in your time is unreal. I am a bush runner and dont do edibles before a run anymore, however my experience many years ago ( 1997 ) was cool and fairly fun. Was asked to take mate to the airport, on the way, hey here some banana bread, munched two pieces myself. Dropped him off, said bon boyage, got home and decided to go for a run as nothing was kicking in. I ran through rush hour traffic almost in the CBD of JHB, was not very used to space cakes, it felt like I was running on air, my sweat was not touching my skin, but a few millimetres off it. It was a mind f#Ik of note. Loved and hated it. Usually I just go for a bush run ,5 -10km max now after a joint. Nice and sensible. Just some interesting information about athletes and cannabis. One of my clients and friends from the states was the 2nd biggest donor to the daggaparty.org.za for voting registrations a couple years ago. Heard about the cause and said where do I pay. Top guy, gun and athlete.1 point

I definetly live on a different planet. I am a couple years too early. I will be here till the end of my days when we can grow/smoke in absolute freedom. I dont really give a shit about the industry, of course its going follow every industry and become an establishment. The activists crying about Dischem selling legal pot now is another ridiculous "cause". Its fnnn wonderful, just like Cannapax was, just like Green Dragon is. These are the risk takers, the guys with balls, that all need support for the development of an industry. Its going to happen with or without stoners/homegrowers/activists. A guy acted suspiciously just yesterday after trying to find me to buy a pool table. He did not realise someone was watching them from the bushes while collecting. He asked about my san pedros while loading, I did give him a cactus as a kind of conscious peace offering and silently wished him well. Strange days, people do weird shit, so my back is up. That is how much I trust. The argument on Sunday night on our local whatsapp forum helped me put things into perspective again. There are many hypocrits out there, and they can be dangerous, cause a lot of grief out there for hippy home growers who just want a chilled life. I mean i was laughing at all the banter, mis information, it was coming from a current pusher in town selling his pure CBD isolate, "according to him is the best medicine out there, and real medicine". Then we have the alcohol, religious, prescription pusher shouting about it all starts with weed and you end up on the street with harder drugs, and then in the morning you have the local "fake hippy" f*9jtard snitching on the other dealers in town. I wanted to ask him how much he is flogging a gram of bush weed for now. In the meantime all of them were probably pissed or recovering from hangovers, pushing their own agenda's, and every single one of them was way off the mark about CBD/THC, even with the help of google, sharing links. Still a long way to go and looking forward to the journey. Haters, hypocrits and bat shit crazies eat my kief.1 point

I think maybe that same cat gave me some DNA genetics gear around 2013 as well. I assume you were also on weed.co.za forum back in the day?1 point

May have gone wayyyyy off topic lol, but I hear what you are saying. People categorize weed and stoners as 1 thing, gateway drug or gateway drug users. While drinking, sniffing, dropping prescription meds. Oh I don't smoke weed anymore, just to come down. CANNA-DOOOOOS! Another twisted reality, constructed by equally twisted demons!1 point

Looks good and healthy to me. Maybe try and open up the canopy a bit to ensure the light penetrates the canopy and reaches all bud sites, as long as you have enough light for the plant then nothing to worry about. What light are you running?1 point

Nice thread, keeping people on their toes, because you never know when a DOOS may be lurking around the corner. Unfortunately there will always be a certain percentage of people fixated on the enhancement of their own lives, doesn't matter how many people they have to step on to get there. But they never do. Anybody who thinks they have got ahead doing someone in, are furthest from the truth. The majority wants to see you do good, but never better than them... How many people have heard that. So THE GREEN RUSH! Everybody feeling like they're late. You think maybe collaboration might be your best opportunity. I thought the same thing, individuals have left me out of pocket many a time. At the end of the day, realizing that people do not enrich you will be your saving grace. Forget the WEED community is the bees knees, everybody who smokes weed is Kwaai... Please man, Canna-doos's are plentiful. They are the reason weed has a bad name. While everybody is trying to fight the stigma, trying to get people to take stoners seriously, these cunts are tearing the walls down. The time is ripe for this industry, but even more so for the scavengers.1 point

The market might be more mature than ours, however that is actually what I like about our local market and communities. We're still at the point where its home growers mostly. No legal dispensaries all over the place like overseas. We are still able to set the framework and determine the market and direction it goes in. Many people are still only getting into cannabis now in terms of growing their own. I find this far more exciting than the US market. EDIT: Generally speaking, I prefer the international forums as the information is generally better and the forums are more active. However there are some exceptions and 420SA is certainly one of them. Sometimes being able to talk to locals is far more valuable than what is available and up for discussion on international forums. The products we have access to locally differ significantly compared to what is available in the US and some of the products available in the US are priced stupidly high locally and takes away the appeal.1 point

All a bit bigger now ^^ .. quite bigger actually. Very much time for a update. I hand in some pictures as soon as I get the time. Ruderalis growing nice and as slow as expected but plant structure looks good. (used fresh soil, lucky me) The soil I cooked was waaaaaaaaaay to hot old man screwed up some of his head calculations by the factor 10.. rounded wrong. Teaches you.. use a freakin calculator. So everything is on flush for 4 weeks now and came back rather sexy. I never ever in my growing life burned plants as bad. Wasn't the nicest picture and I got questioned even more, because I didn't ripped all out and started fresh. (I hate ripping out plants hehehe I always have a little mutant growing somewhere) Now I had a mutant farm but... they still formed buds all starting to hang a bit side ways. The Gelato got hit the worst.. they do not like over fertilizing at all. The Pineapple Express took it rather well. They can realllllly take some The Gelato did his time frame, even it got really pissed off by me. I was a bit busy with other stuff and forgot a bit about the time frame.. was on flush anyhow hehehe no nuts for 4 weeks. Gave a bit TopMax. It was a bit of a face palm moment, when I realized, I haven't checked the Gelato once with some magnifiers. My work sheet said, end week 9 is hit 6th December, and we had the 7th. First plant I checked smiled at me with 100% amber sugar leaves. Rest was also to my liking.. snip snip. Hanging to try for day 4 now. Fastbuds say is 9 weeks.. ^^ I would say 10% was week 8 day 1. Like the last Gelato I harvested after 8 weeks and 4 days. Very much on time. The Pineapple is set with 10 weeks... not sure it will make it to 50% in that time, but have 3 plants just oozing with Pineapple smell.. hope they taste like they smell The Charlotte's Web are also back to happiness and they swing some Indica genes ^^ those leaves don't lie. The Gelato Photos went into a growing competition and left the CW's faaaaaaar behind. Thank god for my light setup, difference in canape is nasty. Also repotted the CW's and Gelato's in 22 liter fabric pots. I get 16 of those easy in a 1.2x1.2 might try a run with those and see how much yield per sqm I get. The smell of the Gelato hanging.. this heavy sweetish chemical smell. Smells exactly like the batch I had before. Can't wait As the seeds are from the same batch.. Auto and Photo plants, I want to actually check potency of both once done. I still think you get more potency into a auto, due to more light you can pump in. But wishful thinking and reality usually wear two pair of different socks The lab will settle this dispute and as the photos came from the batch of autos.. this is a fair compare in my books. Lets see.. my Bubblelicious were flowering for 10 weeks.. on 20/4.. that is like nearly 17 weeks to flower for a photo to get the same energy input. The Gelato with 8 weeks is a fast one.. very curious. I give a little disadvantage to the auto even, by using a very fast one. Sooooo, very curious if the potency of the photo will match the auto. I know the Bubblelicious and mixing it with alcohol is a very bad idea, if you are not used to smoking. Hehehe had some complains about the strength Will visit the Futurama store on the 16th and get my batches tested.. curious what they will tell. The Photo Gelato will take a bit longer.. as I have 4 plants, I want to quickly clone a batch and see if I get taste difference. If I get a nice one, I will throw a batch of free clones to some Capetonians interested. Sharing is caring Short ADDON.. I look for a G28 / Jet Fuel photo ... somebody has and willed to see what we swap?1 point

My primary aim has always been to preserve the genetics. Creating new strains is experimental to me. Giving the genome space to evolve in a controlled environment while I watch and learn. There are many things I take into consideration. THC is strangely not one of them since most of the strains I Work with all fall within the same THC range, and dont really vary from it. Most of the female phenos I select either from my own stock or from the clones I receive, are the standout plants of that run. I decide on the keepers based on the outcome quality of the offspring. I do spend more time selecting my males as opposed to females. For every years grows I plan and collect various genetics. And every year I select 4 or 5 new lines and cross in some of my older crosses. I also focus on finding one pollen donor for that run so males get thinned until one remains. For 2019, my focus was on my bubbleberry line for the pollen. This year it has been the choc gelato line(my standout line from 2018), and next year is still in planning. Generally the best performer from those runs are my keepers that I'll work on again in future. My 2019 Bubbleberry Glue is my keeper from that year for example. The next few months will tell what the 2020 keeper will be. Looking at Slurricane specifically, it has been a standout strain this year. It is also being bred by a micro breeder that is constantly changing his gear up. So they are kind of limited edition. It fits into my mission of preserving the genetics as those seeds will soon not be available.1 point
-
What is your aim when you create new seeds / strains? What is it that you like to look for in a plants when breeding them and deciding what is a keeper and what is not? When do you determine that it is time to change things up a bit and add some new strains into your mix of breeding material? I recall you recently started some breeding with Slurricane for example.1 point

So, I was sitting in traffic looking out of the window of my car and saw something that caught my eyes. A real South African beauty on the side of the road. I felt sorry for her. She had to stand there day in day out and nobody helped her... ....I just couldn't get her out of my head. There wasn't one day I didn't think of her. Till I finally decided to dare it and take her home... ...she was grateful I took her in, but most of her roots where on the streets and she needed a lot of tender, loving care. I honestly thought one day I'll wake up and she's gone... ...but it didn't take long till she felt comfortable at her new home. By now she's the shining beauty she was when I first saw her. These days we're doing everything together. We even go to the beach, smoke bongs and enjoy the view... Guys, I hope you liked my little story. Happy growing and merry Christmas!!! Edit: credit for the last foto goes to @Onion who helped me with this. Thank you Onion!1 point

Guys. This got way bigger than expected I think I may be sorted for a year after this Can't stop won't stop though One objective was to fill the entire 2.4x1.2 canopy. I think mission accomplished. I am very impressed with the quantum boards. When using two 400W HPS I was hitting like R1200 a month on electricity. These three quantum boards are getting less than R700 a month and electricity is pretty expensive around these parts (R2.69/kWh), so anything saved is a win. Beating the heat is also a major win as well. This time two years ago I was eating that heat with the HPS bulbs. Lastly where it counts, growth performance has been pretty comparable. I do still believe the science which says that HPS is unbeatable when it comes to spectrum and bud density/production. But damn man, I have only experienced positives so far with these QBs. The end result of the flowers will seal the deal for me. My expectations are reasonable based off the little test run I did in the last grow with the 4 soil plants under a single 240W QB, and those honestly came out so good.1 point
