Welcome! We have a few vendors on the forum, some have really good pricing on lights. They're tried and tested and reputable companies. Quantum Boards vs LED strips, I have used both but I personally prefer the Quantum Boards due to their form factor and density of diodes. Both are great options, provided you get some good diodes - The Samsung LM301B/H diodes are fantastic and offer exceptional value for money as well as performance and efficiency. There is a reason they are some of the most popular diodes used for growing cannabis. A few retailers sell lights which can be dimmed, this is a nice to have feature but I know not every cares for dimming their lights but it can help save electricity in the long run. If you like the idea of being able to dim your lights, I feel it is a good idea to be able to monitor the watts you are dimming your lights to otherwise its a lot of guess work. I have not seen many retailers who offer a way for you to check the power going to the lights, in fact only one retailer that I know of who offer this - but if you have no desire to dim your lights it is a waste. As for the grow area, well, a concern I have is whether the room itself is light proof? When the lights go off for the dark cycle, since the grow area will be partitioned with plywood upto 1m high, it can allow leak to shine through from a window or the rest of the room depending on what else you plan on using the room for. Also 1m is a bit short IMO, I'd suggest 1.6m tall with mylar or white paint. Taller could work well too. Keep in mind you also need to make provision for air circulation in the room (normal fans are sufficient for this) and then you will want to extract air out of the air and ensure fresh air can get into the room. Plants consume CO2 and you want to ensure the air in the room is being replenished with fresh air and this will also help keep the humidity and temperatures under control. 1.5m x 2.0m is 3sqm which is a decent sized space. Optimally you would want around 1200W of LED lighting for this area, however you can get away with less if budget is an issue. Later on you can simply add more lights as funds become available.4 points

This is hard to say as I feel everyone looks for different things when growing a plant or looking at strains. What I may want in a plant may be something you do not care about or even the opposite to what you're looking. I have yet to find a breeder who just has fire strains. So there are some keeper strains, but at the same time they are not all keepers IMO. You may still need to sift through a few strains or do some research before buying strains to ensure you try get what you really want. However some of the breeders where I have grown out some of their strains previously which I quite enjoyed would be: In House Genetics Worlds Strongest Strains Dark Horse Genetics Swamp boys Seeds Irish Dabs (Pat Keller) Ethos (a lot of what I grew was not as advertised and left me wanting more, however I have seen a few strains which appear nice) EDIT: I must admit, I have grown a lot of, in my opinion at least, average strains and even some really shit ones. I am at the point where I am kinda over growing new strains with each grow I do and want to try find some keepers and stick to growing those alone and perhaps on the odd occasion add a new strain to the mix and see whether she is a keeper or not. The uncertainty when growing the same strain from seed is already something to consider, it is even worse when trying new strains or new breeders. A lot of inconsistencies with your grows and what to expect. The SO has kakked me out a few times due to the type of stuff we have had to smoke. There was actually a batch of Ethos Mandarin Cookies which we just could not smoke. I gave it away to someone who had no bud at all. If you want consistency with your grows, you need to make a plan to sift through various strains, find the plants you like and keep them and take cuttings from them. Just because some breeders sell expensive seeds, does not mean you will always get something good. I have said this many times before. In House Genetics is the perfect example, well known for putting out some frosty strains and amongst some of the more expensive seeds our local seed banks stock, but not all their stuff is good.4 points

I was away from my girls last week for 4 days camping in the Caroo... Had nightmares of Spider Mites and WPM taking over.... Shit man... never again... And when I came back and my brother inlaw told me he misted my indoor girls and hoped that it was cool I gave birth to a alligator...2 points

@PsyCLown Thank you again for the advice, I had mistakenly thought that having an 'open air' smaller grow space in a bigger room would mean that I wouldn't need an exhaust system. But if one is necessary anyway, its looking more and more like I'll have to admit my mistake of painting the room and get a tent. Anyway, feeling a lot more informed on whatever route I decide to take. Much, much appreciation!2 points

Judging by the pictures, they seem fine and I see no signs of re-vegging. Just correct the cycle and you will be set for harvest2 points

For lights you can have a look at@growopz and @Light It Up ( hope I spelled it right). They very helpfull, good product and service. You roughly need 300-400 Watts of QB's per square/meter. Did I read right, your grow space is just going to be 1m high, if so that's to low in my opinion. Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk2 points

Unlikely, I also run QB's but mine are 3000k (so more red, less blue) and I do not have issues with auto's going into flower early. It comes down to the strain and genetics as to when the auto will go into flower. Some do start to flower sooner than others, not ideal if you want a decent harvest as the plants tend to be quite small then.2 points

Ya that's blatant, and they just look so irreversibly tainted by doing shit like that. If you going to buy seeds for the purposes of resale, put some effort into it, grow some out, take some dope pics, understand what your customer is getting and if they would be happy with the resultant bud. I have had a experience with both GSR as well as President seeds. Here's the thing though, and I'm not saying this can't be done, however I may have just had bad luck with it. The president seed - gelato bin ladden auto I grew, being auto's, I assume they are sensitive to the touch. So I didn't do anything drastic at all, but noticed it started flowering around 3 weeks in, Still TEENY TINY... So in the bin it went. I only noticed later on that I had made a switch in lighting, Cool White tubes - 240w Quantum board 3500k to make for a more speedy veg, which was the intention. Soon after seeing all my plants a little too close to flowering, calyx busting, 2/3 pistols quite pronounced, I made the change back to the LED Tubes. Could the Qb's color temp caused early flowering in my Auto, most probably... But is that also where you draw the light with pissy strains that break down in tears if you look at them funny? Most certainly. GSR gelato grew so promising, but then the buds were full of air unfortunately.2 points

Not to stir at all of course, only enquiring why they didnt ask you. If I was approached and was asked if someone or breeder and or company, wanted my pictures, I'd be so humbled and honored. Though it would only be fair of them to ask for your consent first, that's all. Funny enough, just this week one of my pictures had been shared on Instagram, and even though I had given the okay to post my pictures, they still felt bad that the media department had not asked for that specific picture, and I was totally cool with that.2 points

Oh! Yes... Growing is addictive lol... The more I research the more parts and amendments I need and crave... I often find myself thinking about my grow before I go to sleep... And very often lose attention and daydream about growing... Mid convo at times... HI! my name is Richard, and I'm a growing addict. It's so bad, my girlfriend has banned me from any shopping isle with lights or fans or anything that could possibly be used to grow with...2 points

Hi Family, I know there was a post on a thread about President Seeds, and that they use a bulk seed bank and relabeled them as their own. Now today, I see that GSR is using other breeders pictures too, and seen a post by @Ill_Evan saying he doesn't use them anymore, and my thread about them wasnt answered, and see why now. Here are the pictures in question Is this Ethical and right?1 point

Hello beautiful people, I am a first time time indoor grower and after hours of research am still a little overwhelmed by all the lighting options. I have a 2.8 x 3.2m room which I have painted with flat white paint and plan on partitioning a 1.5 x 2.0m corner with roughly 1 meter high plywood and coating the interior with mylar to use as the grow space. I was just in the process of ordering some lights (2 x 4bar 240w LED lights) from onlinegrowshop.co.za but decided to check some reviews before I forked out the dough, and I was lucky enough to stumble into one of the forums of this website. Turns out that onlinegrowshop.co.za doesn't seem to have the most sparkling reputation to say the least... Needless to say, I will not be getting lights through them, but I was hoping that I could get some advice from some experienced growers on which lights to use and who to source them from. I don't mind spending a fair amount on the initial outlay but obviously hope to achieve the most efficient results with regards to running costs, taking into account Eskom's proposed tariff increases, energy efficiency is paramount! Therefore, I am looking at quantum boards and LED bar lights, also I would like to use the same light(s) for veg and flowering and just lowering the lights closer to the canopy for flowering, if that isn't a huge blunder? I wont be using CO2 supplementation at this point but may look into it in the future. I have not yet partitioned the room, so if 1.5 x 2.0m is an awkward size that can be changed. I have a lot of other questions but will restrain myself to the lighting for now in hopes of getting a definitive answer. Please let me know if you have some advice. Stay safe1 point

Last night I actually watched something, where the guys had done experiments, 14 days, 10 days, and 5 days flush and no flush, if I recall correctly. And all the outcome was the same, or such slight differences, it wouldn't make a difference, and the only thing that was better by something at all, was the amount of nutrients used on the longest flush was obviously less and you'll save money. Few other benefits, but they are small or more directed at a specific field, and you can take advantage of that, depending on your method of use, smoking, extraction or whatever. Best watch and only 13min or so long.1 point

Brother, hope you doing fine, because your plants are doing just fine... You are set for a pretty decent harvest for that size plant and she is going to fatten up nicely for you if you keep at it, as you are. Nothing I can see wrong.1 point

You could probably make the room work, but a tent is going to be easier. You want to forcefully push air out of the window, so ideally have ducting running to the window with an exhaust fan - it will obviously look suspicious if anyone is able to view that particular window. Also it won't be 100% light proof, at least it will be difficult to achieve this. In terms of RH, you will never be able to drop the RH below the ambient RH - so whatever the RH is outside, is the lowest you will be able to get it in your grow room without a dehumidifier or similar as the fresh air being pulled into the grow room will be of the ambient RH. If you went for a 2.4 x 1.2 tent (2.88 sqm) then 4x 240W QB's would be optimal in terms of PPFD. For a 1.5 x 1.5 tent then 3x 240W QB's would be optimal in terms of PPFD. If you are at home / wherever the grow is just about all the time, when load shedding hits you can also simply dim down the lights a bit to reduce the load on the generator and allow you to run other electronics during load shedding. This will keep your plants cycle in place. Going back to the room, you will need to figure out a way to hang the lights from the ceiling or something. Might be another challenge which is once again made easier by using a grow tent. I hope this helps, but ultimately the choice is yours as to whether you want to try make the room work or whether you can justify buying a tent and using that, regardless I am sure members on this forum will continue to assist and guide you1 point

@GGG& @PsyCLown Thank you for the responses, the idea for the partitioning is that the whole room is already painted in flat white paint that is quite reflective already I believe and then I just wanted the extra reflectivity of mylar for the partitioned corner (I will also put mylar all the way to the ceiling of the original walled sides of the corner) and still be able to access the plants fairly easily and have easy circulation. If it is gonna make a big difference I guess I should raise the partition higher but then, I suppose, I would need to make a little door. With regard to light pollution and air intake/circulation I am having a flat blackout blind cut for the window which will still allow circulation through the two open windows (1.3 x 0.5m each) but block out any ambient light. I will also use fans to improve circulation, more so during the flowering stage, where I stay it can get rather humid I am hoping that fans will be enough to drop the RH during flowering but I may try other things too. The partitioned corner is on the opposite side of the window. I don't know if its a good idea to line the inside of the blind with mylar as I still want air circulation? Do you think this set up will work? If not maybe I should just end up getting a tent and exhaust system. And just enjoy the blinding white of the room I painted lol. When it comes to lighting, I would prefer to get Ideal coverage and intensity for a smaller area rather than suboptimal lighting for a larger area. Also during load shedding I would want the lights to be able run off a 2kw - 2.5kw generator (I have been speaking to a friend about putting a delayed resistor on the system to handle the spike - dont ask me too much about it cause i' a total noob when in comes to electricity). So for example, if I reduced to area to 1.5x.1.5m (2,25sqm) do you think two, three or even four 240W Quantum Board LED Grow Light (Additional Diodes) from @Light It Up would be ideal, considering that I will not be supplementing any additional CO2? Again thank you so much for the responses I really appreciate the guidance.1 point

Fair enough if you buy bulk seeds it will cost cheaper per seed. But do you really want to waste 4 months of electricity and nutes growing subpar stuff that won't smoke as nice as some decent genetics from a trusted breeder? So honestly speaking bulk seeds might be proper for beginner growers.. but if you know the quality of bud that you want you will struggle to get that consistently from bulk seeds. So on that note I have been burned by President seeds and bulk seed bank and will never again purchase any seeds where I know it was bulk or repackaged bulk. Rather cough up some extra cash and enjoy the fruits of your harvest so much more.. And I don't think it's ethical or treating your clients fairly by flipping and filtering bud pics that do not even relate to the strain in question.. but there's money to be made in cannabis so there will always be some poephol that tries to take advantage of that...1 point

Most of growers make clones if we see its a nice plant, my opinion is that if you are VERY tight on money and you want more for your money go@Totemic, his stuff is [emoji91][emoji91]!! If you make clones like many of us do I believe then R100-480 for a seed is not much, you get so much more back. Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk1 point

It is not really ethical, but it happens and we know it happens. In this case it is the same picture for two different strains... Who really knows what you are actually buying though. This is my personal opinion, the best advice I can give you, stop buying cheap european seeds. All these common dutch brands, try avoid them - fork out a little more if you have to and go with some US genetics instead OR some quality local stuff if you are on a tight budget... I know not everyone is going to agree with me on this, you don't have to. End of the day, you're the one smoking your weed and who has to live with your harvest. I will be smoking my home grown stuff with a big smile. Barneys farms, nirvana seeds, dutch passion, seedsman and the many more out there. If you are really on a tight budget, purchase some quality local genetics like what @Totemic is putting out. I assure you, you will be far happier with what you grow from Totemic than what you may get from the breeders I have mentioned above and last time I took a look Totemic's range is far cheaper too and you're supporting local. Win win win if you are on a tight budget, it's really a no brainer. I am not saying all dutch breeders are but they seem to like to sell jut. You may get lucky and find a gem, however this is likely to be far and few. If people stop buying them, companies will stop stocking them. You are putting all this money and effort into growing, why skimp on genetics and settle for subpar genetics? The genetics make the biggest difference when it comes to a grow, probably followed by your lighting and then nutrients next.1 point

I'll tell you what bru I even caught GSR using one of my pictures for the GDP I grew of there's. They got a better one eventually so they only used mine for a few months but I was perplexed. I had one good grow from a GSR strain but I found the genetics to be inconsistent, but they are at least the strains you pay for. Whether it's ethical to use someone else's pictures without their permission, well obviously not, but they are not scamming people with fake orders or fake seeds. Does flipping a picture and adding a filter with some branding make it fair use? Some would say yes. Oh joy ethical dilemmas!1 point
-
Thanks guys :) Yeah, the plan was to defol in week 1 and week 3 of flower only, but they're in week 2 now and could maybe use another? The cupboard is now 99.9% lightproof, does it have to be 100%? I've read a few articles that stress the importance of having NO leaks, while it doesn't really come up in most sources. Humidity steadily at 55-65%. This has brought some tiny bugs out of the pots. I think they are springtails, apparently they're completely harmless and live in humid conditions feeding off mold and fungi. Hundreds of tiny jumping dots:1 point

I definetly live on a different planet. I am a couple years too early. I will be here till the end of my days when we can grow/smoke in absolute freedom. I dont really give a shit about the industry, of course its going follow every industry and become an establishment. The activists crying about Dischem selling legal pot now is another ridiculous "cause". Its fnnn wonderful, just like Cannapax was, just like Green Dragon is. These are the risk takers, the guys with balls, that all need support for the development of an industry. Its going to happen with or without stoners/homegrowers/activists. A guy acted suspiciously just yesterday after trying to find me to buy a pool table. He did not realise someone was watching them from the bushes while collecting. He asked about my san pedros while loading, I did give him a cactus as a kind of conscious peace offering and silently wished him well. Strange days, people do weird shit, so my back is up. That is how much I trust. The argument on Sunday night on our local whatsapp forum helped me put things into perspective again. There are many hypocrits out there, and they can be dangerous, cause a lot of grief out there for hippy home growers who just want a chilled life. I mean i was laughing at all the banter, mis information, it was coming from a current pusher in town selling his pure CBD isolate, "according to him is the best medicine out there, and real medicine". Then we have the alcohol, religious, prescription pusher shouting about it all starts with weed and you end up on the street with harder drugs, and then in the morning you have the local "fake hippy" f*9jtard snitching on the other dealers in town. I wanted to ask him how much he is flogging a gram of bush weed for now. In the meantime all of them were probably pissed or recovering from hangovers, pushing their own agenda's, and every single one of them was way off the mark about CBD/THC, even with the help of google, sharing links. Still a long way to go and looking forward to the journey. Haters, hypocrits and bat shit crazies eat my kief.1 point

Just a quick word about cannabis and life. Its amazing and crazy times we are living in at the moment, especially for cannabis. Late sunday night I was checking up on an an argument on our local whatsapp group. I seriously thought our community was all for cannabis, but was very stunned at some of the comments, especially from certain individuals who have alot of push in our community. i got involved by posting correct information about CBD vs THC, cause seemed everyone was getting it wrong. but bottom line a person I used to think was cool, was absolutely against cannabis, blaming the " hippy drug culture" in our town on cannabis, it all starts with a joint, telling some guys to shove their CBD up their arse!!! WHat was ironic is the person in question was probably on perscription drugs and definitely has a massive problem with alcohol abuse, and more than likely pissed at the time of the comments. Plus their doctor, is the biggest supplier of cannabis in our region!! Anyway, just be safe out there, not all is canna love. And came to realisation why a few local community members are calling me a drug addict. Back to the drawing board.1 point

Nice thread, keeping people on their toes, because you never know when a DOOS may be lurking around the corner. Unfortunately there will always be a certain percentage of people fixated on the enhancement of their own lives, doesn't matter how many people they have to step on to get there. But they never do. Anybody who thinks they have got ahead doing someone in, are furthest from the truth. The majority wants to see you do good, but never better than them... How many people have heard that. So THE GREEN RUSH! Everybody feeling like they're late. You think maybe collaboration might be your best opportunity. I thought the same thing, individuals have left me out of pocket many a time. At the end of the day, realizing that people do not enrich you will be your saving grace. Forget the WEED community is the bees knees, everybody who smokes weed is Kwaai... Please man, Canna-doos's are plentiful. They are the reason weed has a bad name. While everybody is trying to fight the stigma, trying to get people to take stoners seriously, these cunts are tearing the walls down. The time is ripe for this industry, but even more so for the scavengers.1 point
-
Yeah unfortunately our local town is attracting fake hippies with dreads, who belittle others at their own game. Sad to see the business people who dont even grow or smoke get involved in cannabis, but it was inevitable, and I guess the development of the industry in a professional way. I have unfortunately and finally taken that stance. I loved helping others for many years and probably still will. But yeah, if you not paying me to live my life, I cannot help. Very sad experience recently with one of our local canna groups, like a loving dog that gets beaten when it goes to its owner, finally decided to distance myself and move along swiftly. But bottomline is to canna life you want to live, dont pay tax, grow what you want, plant it everywhere and if you dont like cannabis, you wont like the future.1 point
-
An industry such as cannabis will always attract various types of people. Some will be it in for the love of the plant and will happily assist others where possible. Others just to try and make money and couldn't care about the industry in general, nor about the consumers or the future of the plant... as long as it benefits them now. Many people just looking out for themselves end of the day. I am not sure that contrast will ever disappear, the potential with cannabis is just too high to ignore.1 point

The greenhouse is my personal space, to enjoy one of my serious hobbies, helps to switch off, unplug and slow shit down a bit and I can get lost in there.... My prettier half shares my passion for the herb and we share the responsibilities. She's got the trimming(with my assistance) drying and curing down to an artsy type of science. I even enjoy the sourcing of organic ingredients and amendments as part of the endeavour. I love looking for and finding alternatives especially if they are free, just go look in nature. " If you think smoking weed is addictive try growing it. " Of course its addictive, an obsession and art form. I think the whole process is an art form, each person has their own methods for better growing, popping seeds and even harvest/extraction. Something I do which is creepy is I brush my hand through my females, I think they like it and there is method behind the madness.
