Update on the competition purse. At present we are sitting with a purse of R2200-00 which means that 22 tickets have been purchased in total. These funds will be allocated to having trophies made for 1st,2nd and 3rd as well as cover their courier fees from the trophy maker and to the winners. It's likely we won't see much left after that expense so in all likelihood there will be no purse money allocated to the winners.8 points

So I have 2 seeds that have come up without trouble... The 3rd...i dono... I may have damaged her a bit which would be really disappointing... But let's see... Maybe by tonight she's happier.6 points

Some plants just don't really push the primordial flowers, but I've found that expressing the sex has little to do with time passed, and more to do with how far the plant development is. Most F1 generations are really homozygous, especially when the parents are genetically far apart. It creates a true F1 hybrid. Using similar or closely related parent plants don't necessarily create a new hybrid expression, but just express similar to that line(like all the lines with GSC lines... They are all the same.... The F2 recombination event is an interesting one, and many previously recessive traits become dominant, previously dominant traits either recess or lock in. The F2 generation is never a stable generation, and this is especially true due to the polyhybrid that this line is. There are many directions one can take a line. I'm not looking for different traits, but looking to isolate the current F1 traits and lock them in to a stable F4. Healthy cannabis plants are actually quite resilient against pest and disease as they are aromatic plants with volatile terpenes and cannabinoids. It becomes an issue with plants in isolation to other plants. Pests don't have a choice so they go for the cannabis. In an ecosystem the pests would way rather eat something else. As for environmental diseases like PM etc, epigenetics play a role and generation after generation rewrites their DNA based on the environment they experience as an evolutionary step.6 points

#Tortot 1&2 did some sunbathing again today.. Trying to curb the stretch a bit.. The 3rd bean has not yet germed and I decided to give it till tomorrow morning and then I'll just plant her somewhere.. But she's out of the selection for now..5 points

That's why I'm documenting my grows as best I can. You can be sure I'll be posting up logs for each generation I work on. Taking a new cross and turning it into a strain.5 points

I do not have a favorite strain just yet, however at this point in time I am leaning towards the Sugarcane cut I have - beautiful pheno.... beautiful plant in general. Super frosty, easy to grow, easy to trim and smoke is decent. Will be growing out some more new strains shortly, then will start to narrow down. I am now finally at the point where I will start running the same strains again and on the odd occasion look at trying some new strains out. Scrap the stuff I do not like or do not enjoy growing.4 points

No this is Romaine lettuce. I try to start some every 2 weeks. They then get transplanted into my outdoor/greenouse grow bed. We quite like salads. I try to save money. And keep myself busy.4 points

So I don't know if you guys have something you keep/grow just for yourself. And you don't even like to share with friends. As it is the only thing you like to smoke. I have a White Widow cut that I keep falling back on. What is that one in your stable?3 points

Nah just plain 'ol curiosity...I always feel like i'm excluding the ladies when saying "Howzit guys" and also hate saying "Howzit guys/girls". Maybe i should just say "Howzit" haha.3 points

Hi administrators, my humblest apologies for the late update, I was going to do it two days ago (15/05/2021) when my seeds sprouted but I wanted more development before I updated – no excuses though! Here is my update from last time: *Day #2 (10/05/2021): Checked seeds for development. Also, changed water in shot glass. *Day #3 (11/05/2021): Checked seeds for development. One seed in shot glass split and tap root started developing. I took out the split seed and transplanted into a new container with soil (Black square pot). No progress on other two seeds. *Day #4 (12/05/2021): Observed two pots/containers for development (yoghurt tub and black pot). No new development in both containers, shot glass also had no new development. I changed water in the shot glass. *Day #5 (13/05/2021): Observed seeds for new development. No new development. Watered two pots (soil was getting dry) and changed water in shot glass. *Day #6 (14/05/2021): Checked pots and shot glass for new development. Noticed seedlings in both black pot and yoghurt tub are pushing towards the surface, moving towards the light, this is a good development for me. No new development in shot glass, changed water. *Day #7 (15/05/2021): Observed shot glass for new development. Noticed that the seed split and tap root is beginning to develop - I am planning on leaving this seed in the shot glass for 2-3 days before transplanting into a new pot/container, I will still be changing the water daily. *Day #8 (16/05/2021): Observed containers and shot glass for development. In shot glass, the seedling tap root is developing nicely, I am still planning on transplanting into new container within 2-3 days. I noticed that the seedling i the small yoghurt tub is developing fast and might get root bound soon/outgrow the small container so I am transplanting during dark cycle into a larger pot - round orange pot. The black pot will need to be transplanted into a larger pot in 3-7 days - however the plant first needs to develop more leaves and get stronger before I transplant (stressful on the seedling/plant). *Day #9 (17/05/2021): Just observed seedlings development, watered pots and changed water in shot glass. #NB: I'm using a CFL light (6000k 7W) for my seedlings and start of veg. I will later switch to stronger lights (2x LUMii T5 6400k 24W bulbs) but I was advised that these lights are great for seedlings because they are less harsh on the seedlings - light intensity and spectrum. Before flowering stage I will be getting a new light (LED Full Spectrum Light, 3000k 120W) to optimize the light received by plants during the bloom/flowering stage. Disclaimer: I am sort of new to the indoor grow setup but I've been wanting to start an Indoor grow for years now, I already did all my research in the past and currently, now it's just time to practice what I learnt.3 points

The ladies are going to be dressed with Jamie's Orgasoilux and I will dine them with Biobizz + Biodyne liquid gold microbes. The dance floor is a 1.2m x 0.6m x 1.8m tent and the lights are coming from a 340W rig of 2x LED grow bars and 2x QB panels. With a bit of luck, maybe the ladies will dance[emoji126][emoji1696] Sent from my SM-G998B using Tapatalk3 points

The difference visually when comparing an F3 population to the next f4 population is astounding. F4 you hit a stable output for whatever you were selecting. F4 is a sweet spot. F2 and F3 are still unstable. From F5 you start trading vigor for stability.3 points

Ladies entering week 5 I top dressed abit late and so the ladies got abit hungry. I switched to some organic liquids for the mean time, everything else seems to be going smoothly, my only regret so far is having worried about the stretch to much and should of let them grow abit more3 points

Righty ho. Roots have appeared on #1 & #3 so I think it's soil time. Some of you that have been monitoring my progress since I started growing a year ago will have noticed I have a different light now. A few weeks back when everyone was scrambling to get their beans before the cut off date there was a lot of goodwill and offers of help going about. Was actually a good feeling watching people willing to help strangers. A few of you reached out to help me pay the entrance fee. Thanks to you all for the offer. Then a local guy I support soil wise gave me soil towards the grow, how he found out I don't know. So a big thank you to Jou Ma se Soil although I changed to Just Cannabis at the 11th hour. And the generosity didn't stop there. @Light It Up reached out and asked if I had a decent light and offered me a 240w QB for the duration of the grow. No strings attached, put it back in the box and return to sender after the grow off. Or purchase it if I wanted to. Speechless. I've already quit the pub and smoking next. You know where this is going. Big shout out again to the above, the forum, @Totemic and the sponsor's for such a great opportunity.3 points

Soo, something which I thought of and was curious to get some feedback from everyone else. I suffer from allergies at times, since I have moved over to dry trimming I find that when I trim my body really hates it. I sneeze a lot, runny nose, eyes get a bit iffy too - popping allergex helps but the allergex seems to be rather short lived and only lasts around 2 to 3 hours. I should probably look into an anti-histamine which lasts a bit longer. I guess this makes sense as I normally trim, then hold the bud close to my face to inspect better, then trim some more where needed and with dry bud the trichomes do go all over the place and the leaves if dry enough break into smaller pieces and I guess its the same as dust and pollen and all that other good stuff which my body dislikes. lol Although, I have also heard of people who feel nauseous from the smell of cannabis - be it while growing or dried. Some only with wet / growing cannabis and some only with the dry cannabis. Some get a headache from the smell, or certain cannabis smells. The GF is like this and when I use to wet trim, she could not be in the same room as me. Also I have heard of some people getting a bit of a rash / skin irritation when working with their plants if they have a t-shirt on and perhaps get some sticky trichomes on them or if they are defoliating and are all up in there with the leaves and such. Not sure what would cause this? Perhaps someone knows and could share with us? So just wondering how many of you have similar effects or reactions?2 points

Well understandable with the skunk odour indeed. This is not just catchy strain names. There is a definite gravitation towards the desserty type strains and the fruity strains. Zkittles, Fat Banana, Gelato etc. are all among the most popular strains at the moment. I don't see Black Pepper or Hot Chilli anywhere? Maybe in the future we will have our own Biltong strain... Who knows...2 points

Cool thanks @The_StonedTrooper, it's always good to hear another growers take on this. And I fully agree with doing the bud wash, if anything has been sprayed. I lean towards growing as organic as possible, so I try to avoid using pesticides and fungicides, but unfortunately often there's no choice. I do Jorge Cervantes bud wash, if necessary. @Stefan, if you want to look into this video search his name on YouTube.2 points

Hey @Fridge You dont want the stuff to be thick on the leaves, and leave too much of a layer of the Pyrol, but if you going with a low mix, you dont need to wash it off before lights on. If you spraying anything, neem, pyrol, AQSF, serenade, your aunties home organic remedie, you are going to wash your bud at harvest, with the 3 bucket system, for your safety and health, and your bud will be good.2 points

I wouldn't use anything on the plants that are close to being finished. They are looking good by the way. Apparently the neem does not taste good and can spoil your harvest if applied too late in flower. I would manually remove as many mites as you can if you got some time and patience. If these are outdoors it also helps to put them in a windy spot. As for the others, I would spray them just when the lights go off and then again spray them down with water only before the lights go on again. You see they recommend 20-40 ml/liter of pyrol? I chose to mix in 30ml per liter. Solved the mite problem but my plants showed phytotoxisity for weeks after application. Edit: check out @The_StonedTrooper's reply. Seems like rinsing isn't necessary. I always did for good measure. @The_StonedTrooper, won't it leave a funny taste in the buds? I never did that as I didn't want to risk it.2 points

Thanks, will try it, either way I don't think it's going to be useful to keep them. Thanks for the heads up2 points

DK is definitely pregnant. Still don't have my phone back though, so no pics unfortunately. Vodacom now says they can't get the spares for my phone (after waiting 3 fucken weeks!), and they will just swap it out for a new one. Problem is, they don't have any local stock of that either. So back to waiting. I asked them if I could pay in some money and get the s21 ultra, but they aren't allowed to do that. Aarrghh!2 points

Great topic. Personally mine is the Aurora Indica by Nirvana Seeds. I do however have the fortune of being able to grow multiple strains in bulk so even though it is my personal favourite I have the ability to share plenty of it. It is however not the greatest strain I have. I smoke daily so having a strain that is tasty, good to smoke but not so debilitating that my days are rendered nil is fantastic to have, and that for me is the Aurora Indica. A close second is Strawberry x Juggernaut, a strain @PsyCLown gave to me in seed form. Very clear high, little body high and quite punchy. Definitely a day smoke. This comes second only because I've preferred more body highs or "indica" highs in general, but it's nice to alternate between these two.2 points

all....four? understood that you have extra Tortini seeds which is cool... but you will need to remove one from your selection as it does give you a bit of an unfair advantage in this competition format.2 points

Grow reports are allocated for completed grows. To help others decide whether they would like to grow out the same strain or not. It's basically a summary of a diary with all the data collected presented in a single report. For grow diaries you want to start a diary here https://www.420sa.co.za/forum/42-grow-diaries/ This is where you log a grow that you have on the go. Have a look at the other guys diaries to get an idea of how it works2 points
-
whats up man! so there are 2 spots for grow documentation. the one called Grow diaries is the one where you document a current grow happening at the moment that is not finished yet, so from seed to harvest. and then there is the grow reports section where i think you have been posting, and that is more for finished grows that you have smoked and may have a report about and can then share it with the community.2 points

I have seen my plants show sex on 18.6 before but haven't noticed it that early, might just have to train my eye a bit I understand you say the F2 is where the real hunt begin, but coming from the F1 that is already stable to an extent would they not already be a bit more stable? Are the F2s being bred to isolate traits of the current Tortonis or because you're looking for different traits? I see I see, I guess part of the growers responsibility is also plant health and obviously, or more like hopefully every true breeder will only care to work with healthy plants that are not making their days harder. before I got on the forum and really started growing I remember hearing a lot about this Chocolope strain, everyone was growing it and this was about 2-3 years back. so I know you been working with it for a while. then I joined the forum when, lo and behold, the mastermind behind it all. I feel honored!2 points

Id toss it and start over but if you really don't want to be at a loss, you can try water cure it, you will lose terpene profile but atleast it will be smokeable2 points

Update: Day 2 of veg Not too early to count as veg right? Not a great photo, but also not much to show yet. They were under an old blurple light which explains the stretch. I've now got them under a 120W QB. I'll keep the humidity dome for a while. The temperature in the tent seems to be going from 19-23 so not terrible, but I'll have to watch that as it gets colder here.2 points

Seeds have been put into jiffy pellets which were presoaked and then those were put into a self watering propagator. I opened the jiffy up a bit underneath to ensure good contact with the capillary matting underneath that keeps things moist. Sent from my SM-G998B using Tapatalk2 points

All 3 seeds successfully germinated. [emoji119] Will be keeping them in these net pods until they outgrow them. Currently they are placed just outside the veg tent. They will now be placed in the tent. Sent from my SM-N975F using Tapatalk2 points
