  1. Let's talk stress testing. It's the one most important thing that many of the newer breeders aren't doing. Stress testing should be considered as part of your selection process. I stress test all my plants throughout their life cycle in an attempt to get them to hermi on me. Those plants that survive the stress I consider sexually stable. Stress testing should be an indoor endeavor. These plants really don't express their hermi nature easily outdoors. Intense light All my plants are blasted with more light than they are comfortable with from germination Interrupted dark I Interrupt the dark cycle a few times during the first few weeks of Flowering. pH issues This is one I don't really do as causing pH swings in soil is hard to come back from. Compared to coco/Hydro. Over feeding Simply over feeding N, running the soil hot. Over/under watering Self explanatory. I run my plants on a wet/dry cycle. When I say dry I mean the plant is wilting from dryness. My plants may look healthy and perfectly grown, but they are being grown at their uppermost limits. These are all the most common stresses that plants are likely to be exposed to by new growers or just in general. If you are breeding and you are not doing this with your plants, you are skipping a crucial step in eliminating hermi plants.

  4. 4 June Update Had 2 load shedding sessions. 2-4.30 they were dark anyhow, 10-12.30 I put them outside. Today 10-12.30 I put them outside, if sunny and 18-20.30 they go battery backup mother tent ^^ Just got repotted yesterday, so no feeding. Had issues with the video.. if I still can get things working.. I post it, if not, tomorrow next one.

  5. I I agree, it is a challenge that we need to overcome, as @420SA said, not everyone has the same loadshedding challenges, then in the same light, not everyone has the luxury of taking their plants out. I vote we stick to the rules and roll with the punches

  6. I don't have much to show, apart from my vegging room. The odd branch grows at right angles and is webbed at the join. Some root porn Good luck to all who entered.

  7. I don't mind.. if easier for final judging, please do so. Back from Eskom outage

  8. Ja, I know what you mean. If it's set to come on at power out then when the LS times are in the dark period it will come on, so it needs to be monitored. I run my lamp during the day, just like the plants to be on the same sort of time schedule as me.

  9. Eskom steals 5 hours growing time.. is a word I can put them in the battery backup mother tent. But how many out there have that? I run the videos also with the point to prove.. I am sticking to the rules my plants run 100% indoor with the Eskom exception. In other countries.. you don't have power outages during grow competitions, or at all . Might take those exceptional situations into account.. 5 hours load shedding plus the dark time in the wrong spot.. you can't simply change the dark time to a totally different time window.. that confuses the plant as much as not getting enough. Not good with the short grow time we have anyhow. Don't get me wrong, not complaining hehehe mother tent it is We Germans love to stick to rules.. strange thing hehehe

  11. So.. this escalated quickly lol. I bought a second tent, Mars Hydro 60x60x140cm. This will be for the mother. Then I'll take clones and veg them a bit in my main tent then flip to flower. Not sure if I should lollipop yet or not but I'll get to that when the time comes. Then for now while I'm still looking for a strain that's perfect for me I'll give the mother to a mate so he can flower it and then I'll start growing the mother for the next strain I want to try out. Thanks for all the help guys!! @Adansonia digitata @Prom @CreX @PsyCLown @GGG @Twix Aphen

  15. This week's updates. Still vegging the two biggest, and the Buddha Cheese are still growing.I didn't water since the rains. Humidity has been up high, so the plants have been hungrier this week. I will give more 5 3 5 to the smallest ones, just a teaspoon for the 3 litre potsHigh humidity has been good for the root growth. The pheno hunt is still on. Seedlings are still alive Germination test on the new mixture.Happy growing everybody.

  16. It's a China light from the Centurion China mall. I think it was 3hundies. I went with a cheap offering, which in hindsight wasn't the best choice. Rather get a smaller lamp that can run for longer. I find that at the 2hr mark it starts dimming.

  19. Update: Week 3 of veg - doh! This is probably an upsetting image, my apologies Repotted Probably worth talking about how I screwed up so far. I almost always grow from clones so my seedling stage growing clearly needs work. The ferts I was using for the seedlings had much too high an EC. I was diluting my veg ferts but was not diluting it nearly enough (or testing the EC ) That and being a bit distracted by non-cannabis things the last couple of weeks was enough to cause what looks like N toxicity. I've given the coco a flush and have have started using ferts with a (tested) much lower EC. The new growth is already looking better, so I'm hopeful. As I understand with N toxicity the old leaves don't recover fully/quickly. T1 and T2 have pretty good root systems and despite the horror that is the drooping there, the leaves look ok. So I'm hopeful. I'm estimating that I've lost a good week, maybe more, due to stunting. Its going to be really interesting to see how they do from this point on. Pretty silly mistake, but I'm happy. Just learned something valuable for next time. Also I'm really glad I'm growing in coco, it make the testing and correction very easy

  20. Week 2 Mini Update Things are looking good still, I haven’t changed anything really. The hydro girls have dropped little roots so things should be happening soon. Organic girl is also just chillin' doing her thing.

  21. Hi folks. So I flipped to flower on the 31st of May. I was satisfied with the sizes of the plants taking into consideration the clones in the middle of the tent that will also add to the total yield. I have cleaned up the 6 mother plants and will clean up the clones by the weekend. Then maybe one final clean up at the end of week 2 of flower. Struggling a bit with colder temps and Eskom fucking around but other than that not a lot to complain about. Cleaning up the plants have also introduced me to their unique smells. It's really nice to start to smell the ladies and what they might represent going into flower. Please mind the drooping Twisted Helix.. it turns out she drinks a lot and only got a feed after the clean up. Here are some before and after pics... 22. Yeah, I would approach these girls differently if I was pushing for max yield, although they'll probably still hit a good yield. To me it's important to illustrate that when you are pheno hunting, it's one thing to saturate a space with as many little plants as possible in tiny pots and push single colas on a stick of a stalk if you are only interested in a floral outcome. To me pheno hunting is more a whole plant experience, with its natural expression fully expressed. Part of breeding is also being ruthless with plant selection. On this run only 2 males are still around, and 9 females, so 11 of the 25 left. Any one or more of these girls could go hermi on me in the next few weeks, or show traits I'm not interested in. I may not even find a keeper this round. I may find a few.

  23. Day 1 of 12/12. And we are down to 9. Removed the 4 taller phenos that were back row. They'll flower outdoors. The remaining 9 are +/- 40cm tall, and pushing the 14th node at 7 weeks.

  24. So these lady's was switched Monday , almost a week into flower. Mostly just plain water and once a week a FF Probiotic , did FF Fire Juice last 10 days twice and once a dose of Micorrhizae 2 days ago. From here on just Fire Juice and Probiotics once a week. Let's hope that Zurple Punch doesnt stretch to much , can only raise the light another 30cm. Have a lekker week. Sent from my Hisense Infinity H50 using Tapatalk

  28. Perhaps we should put it to a vote. Whether we allow guys to put their plants under the sun during load shedding hours or not.... We'll really have to rely on trust but this loadshedding BS has the potential to create doubt and unfair advantage if load shedding goes on for extended periods. Which is likely at this time of year. Just an example... I have no LS in my area. Thanks to a factory on my grid that threatened to close if they get LS. If there are others competing who are also exempt from LS then there's an advantage there Some guys might have backup and some not. Tricky one which I must admit I didn't think about at all.

  31. Thanks, I was also surprised when I picked up the cube. It will be 3 weeks by tomorrow. I took the dome off after 1 week and then start with the foliars. I diluted a couple of drops of dip and root into a glass and let them soak it up for 10 minutes before they go into the Rockwool.

  33. sjoe! nicely sized indeed! those stakes will for sure come in handy! i am not sure they have been trained right for an indoor environment, so outdoor may be the way to go...unless you dont mind using like 2 or 3 or your lights and flower them like that. but maybe buy a few new seeds and show this granny what some real weed looks like!!!

  38. It wont be information that would benefit anybody in particular but the farm themselves, a qualified agronomist would have prescribed such a foliar dependent on most probably a sap analysis, i'm sure they would be quite certain that specific crop is deficient in Chlorine. Which would not surprise me, people spray all kinds of shit on their plants given the first inkling that it will do something fantastic. Nobodies scenarios are even slightly similar. There is so much variation. Anyway, if the conversation is about water plants with tap water because you need chlorine from a thumb suck. Ill pass, i'm sure your plants will be happy regardless. We just home growers at the end of the day.

  45. Whats good! Back with a nice little update Clones Both clones seemed to have rooted successfully and survive being transplanted! However, i was abit too keen with the Amablue cheese clone, i put it under light and it burned really badly! Gave that little one a quick haircut for the pic. The Bushfire OG clone as impressive as the plant it came from! What dosage of nutes is safe for freshly rooted clones? Amablue Cheese clone Bushfire OG clone These two will be given away in the coming weeks! Amablue Cheese #2 Day 44 Late last week i topped each arm on the 5th node, since then an explosion of growth has happened! I did a light defoliation to ensure no fan leaves are blocking potential bud sites. The node growth upwards has been really impressive, almost time to flip to flower Bushfire OG Day 40 Late last week i topped each arm on the 5th node too, this plant didn't take too well to the topping, maybe she needed an extra day or two to recover from the transplant. Node growth is good, staying true to the indica genetics! The plant is really short and squat, not much defoliation needed. Waiting for her to catch up a little bit so i can flip over to flower! Amablue Cheese #1 Day 30 Showed some real good growth after the transplant, topped on the 5th node too, will start training this week! Sad its fallen behind somewhat Nutrients Bushfire OG - 2ml/l BioBizz Grow & 0.5ml/l liquid silicon+ Amablue Cheese #1 - 1.5ml/l BioBizz Grow & 0.5ml/l liquid silicon+ Amablue Cheese #2 - 1.5ml/l BioBizz Grow & 0.5ml/l liquid silicon+ All nutrient mixes are PH'd to 5.9-6.1
