Tonight I used the Wood Vinegar, Plants, 1, 2, and 5 weeks into flowering. Smell of the product is good, unlike Neem or Sulfur, and I almost instantly feel hungry now, but not for for any old food, I crave smoked meats I'm not expecting any issues when I view the girls tomorrow, and will report back after their first dose.4 points

Day 6 of Week 13 Update They got both 2 liter 1/3/4 (Fish Mix/Bloom/Top Max per liter) and 4ml Amino Boost per 10 liter. Also gave the plants a Serenade spray.. they need a bit clean up ^^ Not very resistant to PM. Tarryn Sisa4 points

They got their last neem spray tonight.. With lights off Their last sulpher spray.. From next week, if needed. I will continue with Serenade.. Soaked them with some microbes and kelp water and took some more fans that was in the way.. Had to sacrifice two branches that was going to cause issues later on and they are sure sticky and smelly.. Some update pics.. Safe weekend to all traveling to the GardenRoute for the Expo and be safe guys and gals..3 points

@PsyCLown these are great insights regarding wood vinegar. Perhaps we should put up a separate post on wood vinegar so as not to go too off-topic here... Meanwhile, it is very important that one: - only uses bamboo / reed or oak when making wood vinegar - distills the wood vinegar properly Raw wood vinegar will separate out into 3 layers. The bottom layer generally has most of the wood tar, which we use as a wood preservative and to seal wood. The Vikings sealed their boats with pine tar made in the same way. The top layer contains any terpenes which may be carried in the wood. This is why bamboo and/or oak are preferred. Pine contains pinene, which is not great for other plants, even though pinene is also a cannabis terpene. We only collect and sell the pure, distilled middle layer. We have had quite good success with using wood vinegar on a range of plants, including cannabis. However, I am grateful that someone as dedicated as @The_StonedTrooper is also testing it thoroughly now.3 points

For foliar Epsom, I would go no more than 1/2-1 tsp per 5L. So I bought some small baking scoops, they come in 1ml / 2,5ml. They graft well, ill fill the 1ml and smash a 1L spray bottle.3 points

Aug 4 Day 82 of the grow Day 32 of 12/12... 3 days away from half way to Valhalla? For the readers with OCD wondering why I don't have the plants in numerical order... your time has come. From left to right: 1, 2 and 3. Ninja cam view- left to right: 3, 2, 1. Last night they got watered with some worm tea. Worms have been munching avo for a month so this is like worm tea that went to private school. Started at 10ml per 1L water and will up strength to 15ml and 20ml per 1L water assuming no adverse reaction. #1 - frostylocks - definitely the frostiest of the 3 at this point: #2 the runt of the 3 however bud development picking up here too. Besides the purple leaves, this plant is generally a lighter shade of green than #1 & #3. #3 doing her thing. Pistils on one of the heads have started going orange3 points

A small set back for the organiser/s of the Garden Route Cannabis Festival. All the damn sample packages for the judges were confiscated and Leon Meyer was put into holding cells for 2 nights before he was released. The show will go on. Probably leaving tomorrow for a slow toke down stream to the Canna Cup, so catch you guys next week. Stay safe. he3 points

Utilizing the latest evidence and investigations, this series promises to present new information in a hunt for the truth about infamous, iconic monsters and their origins. It features eyewitness accounts and all-new stories while unveiling eye-opening theories about these nightmarish beasts. Wowzers what an intro! I'm intrigued if I may say so myself. That, however, is actually the description from IMDB for the TV program In Search Of Monsters but it seems appropriate here. I'm looking to grow a monster of a tree that could serve as a Christmas tree at the end of the year if things go well. This journal will document the journey. So the game plan is to take one of the Tortoni clones in the veg tent outside when the sun comes around in Spring, with a headstart into veg. End goal is a 200L pot and have 10L, 15L, 20L, 30L and 80L options to get me there. 80L is the biggest I've grown in so this could/should be a personal best for me in terms of growing a tree, especially with the headstart. In the veg tent, we have our clones: 12 Tortoni's - I took 6 cuttings each from Tortoni #1 & #3 from the 2021 indoor grow-off. Despite my noobness at cloning and it getting pretty cold at times I somehow have all 12 cuts alive, albeit to varying degrees of strength. I'll take that as a win, and beginners luck but I'm sure it actually has a lot to do with working with quality material. Something about these @Totemicgenetics having an incredibly strong desire to live - kudos where it is due Biggest plant you see here at the moment, right-centre in this pic is a Critical Churchill seed I had left lying around. The rest are the Tortoni clones. Those 3 in black single plastic pots in the tray were the first to root and are clearly the most developed of the clones at this point. But that's where we are starting from and going to. Thank you in advance to anyone who offers their insights, tips and suggestions2 points

Eish, until the plants get burnt... again. I've been there and done that. Burnt plants from sprays which are meant to help is no fun. As long as you keep it on the lower side, shouldn't be too much of an issue. If you get burnt plants, it's a lesson and do not go that strong again.2 points

Remember I am using a combination of things, including Beauveria Bassiana and Metarhizium to help get rid of the root aphids. Both of these are fungus which work for killing pests as well. The fungus is the pesticide in this case, along with some neem and spinosad which do not affect the fungus. If it was just trichoderma and/or mycorrhizal fungi, then sure. Getting rid of pests would be more important than keeping the fungi alive. Although, how effective is it at getting rid of pests? @The_StonedTrooper I think for this findings you may need to go out of your way to get some pests, to test it out on. lol Thrips, spider mites maybe even some aphids if you can find. No clue where you'd find said pests though.2 points
-
I will most certainly do a findings thread, for the Wood Vinegar. The flower room will be getting this spray only, and will see what unfolds. For the root aphids, yes you might hamper the growth or life of the fungal bacteria in the soil, although we cant be sure how much, and as this is also a soil conditioner, it cant be all that damaging. You'd have to decide I guess, what is more important, killing the root aphids, probably some fungi and having a harvest, or the opposite. Which is worse? Would it even help? My preferred test method will be for foliage spray and not for the soil.2 points

Day 28 Only 3 phenos remain. #1 Been the standout plant since early veg. Her terpene profile is that exact sweet ice-cream on the nose. Her frost development is on point, and she has a large bract size. I'm loving the main cola she is developing too. #6 This is what I would call an average expression of this generation. Nothing too special about her compared to #1. Her terpene profile is also sweet, still developing but not quite that pronounced ice-cream I'm after. Her cola development is distinctly different to #1 #2 This is the gelato dominant pheno. Compact nodes, battling with shade avoidance and not opening up quite as much as I'd like, but the terpene profile is on point, and she has frost and yield development potential. #1 (left) and #6 (right) Overall my main interest is my #1 pheno for this round. The F1 generation gives you the dominant traits of the 2 lines expressed. #1 fits this perfectly, but in the f2s recessive traits from both lines are going to express. This means that while #1 is an absolute stunner of a plant, it may not be the plant here that produces the best set of activated recessive traits in the next generation.1 point

Let's talk stress testing. It's the one most important thing that many of the newer breeders aren't doing. Stress testing should be considered as part of your selection process. I stress test all my plants throughout their life cycle in an attempt to get them to hermi on me. Those plants that survive the stress I consider sexually stable. Stress testing should be an indoor endeavor. These plants really don't express their hermi nature easily outdoors. Intense light All my plants are blasted with more light than they are comfortable with from germination Interrupted dark I Interrupt the dark cycle a few times during the first few weeks of Flowering. pH issues This is one I don't really do as causing pH swings in soil is hard to come back from. Compared to coco/Hydro. Over feeding Simply over feeding N, running the soil hot. Over/under watering Self explanatory. I run my plants on a wet/dry cycle. When I say dry I mean the plant is wilting from dryness. My plants may look healthy and perfectly grown, but they are being grown at their uppermost limits. These are all the most common stresses that plants are likely to be exposed to by new growers or just in general. If you are breeding and you are not doing this with your plants, you are skipping a crucial step in eliminating hermi plants.1 point

oh!! and you gotta invest in a decent sprayer!!! i started like everyone with the R5 hand sprayer that you gotta keep squeezing to get it to spray...nasty nasty sprayers. most stores with a garden section will have either a 1l or 2l or sometimes bigger, pump action pressure sprayer. in my opinion... you need this in your tool kit https://leroymerlin.co.za/sprayer-5l-fragram-with-adjust-nozzel-81455497?sfdr_ptcid=32806_617_621715987&sfdr_hash=dde123ffd47581368350ba565f863cf7&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2NyFBhDoARIsAMtHtZ5jXm6uSbGWavdcm6vxJsD830X7NfzeZ01ihG8Y59HsHSQ2MZ8pYFEaAqg0EALw_wcB https://www.builders.co.za/Garden-%26-Pets/Garden-Hand-Tools/Garden-Spray-Bottles/Garden-Master-Pressure-Sprayer-(2L)/p/000000000000392303?gclid=Cj0KCQjw2NyFBhDoARIsAMtHtZ6bcmBebKFKQYkK4TaDTpMe0NljxlXHg4zmK6zp9EjTsJaCOTVddcIaAp8bEALw_wcB1 point

Day 1 of 12/12. And we are down to 9. Removed the 4 taller phenos that were back row. They'll flower outdoors. The remaining 9 are +/- 40cm tall, and pushing the 14th node at 7 weeks.1 point

Apologies for the kak question but what am I looking at here, besides it being a male? What is it in the picture that excites you? The standing trichomes that are developing1 point

Some plants just don't really push the primordial flowers, but I've found that expressing the sex has little to do with time passed, and more to do with how far the plant development is. Most F1 generations are really homozygous, especially when the parents are genetically far apart. It creates a true F1 hybrid. Using similar or closely related parent plants don't necessarily create a new hybrid expression, but just express similar to that line(like all the lines with GSC lines... They are all the same.... The F2 recombination event is an interesting one, and many previously recessive traits become dominant, previously dominant traits either recess or lock in. The F2 generation is never a stable generation, and this is especially true due to the polyhybrid that this line is. There are many directions one can take a line. I'm not looking for different traits, but looking to isolate the current F1 traits and lock them in to a stable F4. Healthy cannabis plants are actually quite resilient against pest and disease as they are aromatic plants with volatile terpenes and cannabinoids. It becomes an issue with plants in isolation to other plants. Pests don't have a choice so they go for the cannabis. In an ecosystem the pests would way rather eat something else. As for environmental diseases like PM etc, epigenetics play a role and generation after generation rewrites their DNA based on the environment they experience as an evolutionary step.1 point

I have seen my plants show sex on 18.6 before but haven't noticed it that early, might just have to train my eye a bit I understand you say the F2 is where the real hunt begin, but coming from the F1 that is already stable to an extent would they not already be a bit more stable? Are the F2s being bred to isolate traits of the current Tortonis or because you're looking for different traits? I see I see, I guess part of the growers responsibility is also plant health and obviously, or more like hopefully every true breeder will only care to work with healthy plants that are not making their days harder. before I got on the forum and really started growing I remember hearing a lot about this Chocolope strain, everyone was growing it and this was about 2-3 years back. so I know you been working with it for a while. then I joined the forum when, lo and behold, the mastermind behind it all. I feel honored!1 point
