Aweh gromies. Been a busy winter...... Lots of prep done and still to be done. Our first 'natural' growbed(6x2m) Wanted to try keep it as natural as possible. We don't have soil here....only sand, drainage is good but thats it. With all the crap going down in our Province, most materials were in short supply anyway, had to thknk outside the box. Did a 'lasagne' type layering effect with browns and greens with shade net sides to keep the animals out and the organics in. Worked some bonemeal, rockdust and dol lime in there and plenty AACT from the wormfarm. 60 odd days later the humus layer is forming well and the 'organisms' are present. We'll be planting directly into the bed and just keep topdressing with organic material. As the first bed is doing so well we starting a 2nd 8x2m bed. Cheers7 points

I've been lurking around the corners of this group for most of the day like some crazy uncle at a kiddies birthday party. @CreX lead me here after I asked him about grow diaries. This, after a week and a half of paranoid questions and lengthy discussions on growing Married-Iguana's (I may have the spelling wrong). When he mentioned he was a moderator of the site I thought I had fallen victim to yet another proudly South African Marketing gimmick. I have just started my first grow, got my entire setup from a friend who's immigrating, the shit I've smoked out of this tent gives me hope, my lack of green thumbs and knowledge of photosynthesis leads me here. A group of black belts in the art of growing the things I smoke, in tents, under expensive lights. *Your plants look amazing, guys* The name is Martin, and it's a pleasure to be here. I look forward to the "Haha" reactions and the "Don't do that again"comments. Cheers.5 points

We all needed to start somewhere, I too made some silly mistakes when I first started growing. I bought a bunch of autoflower seeds, thinking it would be easier. Luckily I had some members on the forum willing to help and was gifted some nice photoperiods to start with, along with some bagseed to try germinate. Once you are comfortable with the growing process, if you have the money, go for some better and higher end genetics. If not, get some cuttings or find those cheaper gems from local breeders or the cheaper breeders. For indoor, lighting makes a massive difference. Try not to skimp on lights. Then genetics will also make a massive difference, far more of a difference then nutes, secret potions, growing medium (soil, hydro, coco) etc. I feel a lot of products are marketed to try and improve your plants, but ultimately the genetics determine how great the plant can be. The good nutes, environment and so forth just further assist the process and help the plant reach its full potential. If you want frost, no fancy expensive nutes or potions will get you there - genetics will. Just an example2 points

Never heard of them, perhaps try find out what they use to test the sample which is being submitted. What device / type of test. That will help us determine how legit their testing may be, if it's someone use a tCheck, then I'd pass.1 point

Ja and I actually decided against using the DIY electronic timer I had made, becaused I wanted something more tested for the competition. LOL! (I think the sonoffs use an esp8266. My DIY one does too, so I really should have gone that way) The mechanical ones are also a total pain with loadshedding. So yeah, I'm going to move over asap. Thanks. Yes I think I must pull out, it seem the most reasonable option for me. I'll keep posting though, as it will be interesting to see how and when they finish now. It does a bit :) But at least now I know what is going on. My main goal with entering the competition was to learn more. Between the fertilizer and this its been more than worth it for me. So I'm chilled. Thanks everyone :)1 point

Another week and some more bud development. I had already cleaned the lower branches a bit shortly after the previous update. Busy pumping the full flower dose of GHE nutrients now. Think the stretch has finally stopped!1 point

Will do just that . To be fair Back when I got started I knew nothing about growing let alone genetics and breeding. It looked like a solid plan blowing some cash thinking I was investing not knowing that there is a network of professionals around the corner1 point

And then the pics from this morning. Sadly, on opening the tent this morning, I saw my one plant (front left) had fallen over off the wooden stand, and was squished against the side of the tent...so I righted it as much as I could. They are not as far as I wanted them, but work has just been stupidly busy again and my priorities are just not able to cater for the grow right now. But I continue as much as I can Back centre - is the one whose 2 main stems I have removed. Front left - as you can see is the one that fell1 point

Judging Criteria Plants are judged on their condition when the grower states they are finished, however other factors are considered in the process as well, such as: How consistent was the grow - minimal hiccups along the way How well the chosen training technique was executed Maximum utilization of light General good growing practices Plant Condition Judging Criteria Bud size and condition Plant colour Minimal burn Minimal leaf clawing Minimal leaf cupping Minimal pest infection Lack of deficiencies Number of bud sites No signs of stunting Plant size - this plays a roll but plant size must be accompanied by quality. As varying training techniques will produce varying sized plants. The size of a plant won't weigh heavily in judging. No excessive stretching Judging Panel @Totemic @PsyCLown @420SA @Green Leaf Organics - a late but very welcome judge addition1 point

sooooo, just like that some space opens up, been wanting to get a perpetual thing going for a while now. there's an earlier thread of mine where I built a veg box, since then I moved and didn't have space to put it back up. finally got space, but thought it's time to retire the box. still got all the parts so it's just put aside for now. here she is so now this is veg area, got the little 50w flood light in there too for what it's worth1 point

Yeah, sometimes. Finding the right pheno from Ethos, in my experience, has proven to be quite a challenge. Seems one needs to purchase multiple packs of seeds. A lot of what I have tried from Ethos has been a bit disappointing and just overhyped in general. Never found that keeper pheno unfortunately.1 point
