Hi folks, Currently on day 72 of flower and started chopping down the rest of the clones (1 Palomino and 3 Twisted Helix). The remaining mother plants will be getting the chop either on Friday or Saturday. This time round I had to opt for a semi wet trim as I had the PM issue. The Palomino clone is my favourite plant I have grown to date. Just love her looks, smell and resistance. So I went on an expedition through the jungle... My mission, to find the sacred mary-gah-wannas The plants which went into flower in July are stacking nicely. Still early days, bud needs to fatten up. The Black Cherry Pie is a little disappointing, frost is about average at best. Excuse the hair, must have been from me being in and out the tent while setting up the Blumats again. This went into flower end of June so further long into flower. A lot of the frosty stuff went into flower in June - so still to come at least.7 points

Morning guys and gals.. We having a real cold spell.. Was blessed with a heater fan.. But now I realise having fresh air pulled into the room is a must with the extra heat... The tents are in a 6x6 room and stand open most of the time.. With the extra heat it's as if you can smell they need fresh air.. Happy growing and have a great weekend.. For the guys in the Northern Burbs in CPT.. Remember Jeremy Acton is talking on our rights at Interlude Hydro..7 points

Hi, I've been looming around a few days and I would like to introduce myself, hopefully start growing with all of you one of these days. This forum is super informative. I am saving up for my first QB LED and a Decent Tent. Hopefully the hobby will grow from there. And I wil definitely be posting a lot of pictures. For now I have nothing to share, only my thanks to all of you who truly want to help the community grow some lekka dank bud. Sent from my POT-LX1AF using Tapatalk4 points

Super fascinating actually. Just to add....I think there's more than just Big tobacco companies that are worried about cannabis or the Hemp plant. Big Pharma is scared of the plant, Big Oil companies are scared and Im pretty sure there were stories of cotton being direct competition aswell. Pretty sure it was also banned because it was seen as only black folks used it. Trying to supress them. I think Mary Jane has a tough past but she will prevail.3 points

Awesome. Welocme to the forum. Plenty to learn around here. I can't help but ask, what size QB are you planning on getting and from where? Do you have one in mind?3 points

Honestly for many many years i always told everyone the real reason why cannabis was illegal was because if it had to be completely legal than tobacco sells would go down. Im always doing research on cannabis and today I came across a very interesting article title. It read: "The UK's largest tobacco firm says it sees cannabis as part of its future as it tries to move away from selling traditional cigarettes" WAIT WHAAAAT?! A tobacco company tryna move away from selling...well tobacco?? I wonder what the packaging would look like The article further reads: British American Tobacco said it wanted to "accelerate" its transformation by reducing the health impact of its products. In March, BAT took a stake in Canadian medical cannabis maker Organigram. It also signed a deal to research a new range of adult cannabis products, initially focused on cannabidiol (CBD). "As we think about our portfolio for the future, certainly beyond nicotine products are interesting for us as another wave of future growth," BAT executive Kingsley Wheaton told Radio 4's Today Programme. Mr Wheaton, BAT's chief marketing officer, said it saw cannabis related products as part of its future growth. The firm is currently trialling a CBD vape product in Manchester. "I think [CBD vaping] is part of the future, but the present challenge is reduced harm in tobacco and nicotine alternatives, encouraging people to switch." "Marlboro maker could stop selling cigarettes in UK" Releasing its half year results to the end of June, the tobacco giant reported an 8.1% rise in revenues to £12.18bn. It said more than a third of its UK revenues now come from vaping brands such as Vuse, Velo and glo. The tobacco giant also saw its fastest gain in new customers, with users of non-combustible products - such as vapes - jumping 2.6 million to 16.1 million. 'The balance has decisively shifted' Big tobacco companies have tried to ride two horses in their communications to investors over the past decade. They have drawn attention to their efforts to get away from nasty cigarettes, while at the same time pointing to the big dividend payments the sales of those cigarettes support. That balance has now decisively shifted - in the companies' communications anyway - to the former. First Philip Morris International and now BAT have gone all out to stress their move into new types of less harmful products - vaping, heated rather than combusted tobacco, and, in BAT's case, cannabis. Progress is being made. BAT's results for the six months to the end of June show that sales of "new category" products grew by half to £942m. That is still a fraction of its total £12bn in revenue. Cigarette volumes - BAT sold 316 billion cigarettes in the six-month period - actually grew slightly thanks to a recovery in demand in emerging markets. Even though traditional tobacco remains by far its biggest business, the company says it is committed to change, pledging that "ESG (environmental, social and governance issues) is at the core of our strategy." It is hardly surprising that BAT wants to drape itself in the ESG flag. A recent piece of research by the accountancy firm PWC noted the rapid influx of shareholder money into ESG funds, ones that will only invest in companies with the right ethical credentials. It thinks that their combined value will be greater than all other types of funds within three years. BAT's share price has roughly halved in the past four years, from £55 to £27. The ability to tempt some of those ESG funds back into owning BAT shares might to do something to restore that flagging price. Tobacco sales recover Despite its commitment to healthier choices, BAT said sales of its cigarettes recovered in some developing nations following the end of coronavirus lockdowns when sales were banned in some countries. Sales of brands like Dunhill, Kent, Lucky Strike and Rothmans rose in the first half of the year in countries such as Brazil, Turkey and Pakistan. It said overall revenue from its combustibles division - cigarettes and heated tobacco products - fell 3% to £10.5bn. William Ryder, an equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said that there is still some way to go if the tobacco giant is to meet its target of £5bn in revenues from nicotine alternatives by 2025. "For now... BAT is still dependent on cigarettes... Traditional tobacco products still pay the dividend, and will do for some time," he said. REF: Article Source2 points

Funny enough I was at a zimbabwean tobacco dealer yesterday afternoon talking about of all things,,,,, animals. Borrowed a cool book though, The gentle Art of Smoking by Alfred Dunhill. Its a super read, history of pipes, cigarettes, snuff and culture. Wish cannabis was in the book, however I can imagine the reasons it was not. You must not forget big babylon business is not stupid, they have been involved in the cannabis industry before it was legal, I think most tobacco houses have patents already in the cannabis sphere. Lets say we all believe big business has been behind the "war on drugs", I think a good question to ask would be why are we seeing a vaping ban worldwide, USA, South America, Europe and SA to follow in about 5 years? I fully admit it wasn't worth the R200 saving. The guy says he KNOWS I tore it during setup...but it's not torn, it's the stitching. Anyway he's not happy I'm mentioning it, he threatened to come and say something about me. He did offer to upgrade me to the 80cm tent for a R300 charge, but I simply don't have the space...and the obvious. I must black out the window more, it's close to light proof though. Thanks mate, I'll have a go at stitching, but will get the silver/aluminium duct tape as well. You're right, I didn't see the full extent of the mould until I was done. I'll clean it today, haven't flipped yet. A mate is concerned it has deficiencies. No-name, most materials decent, bad stitching. New. But I'm going to drop it now because I don't want some stupid beef and then get stabbed in the head or shot in the scrote or something, all kinds of people out there. You never know. I don't want to get True Crimed.2 points

So a few more pics... A pic of the whole tent, as you can see there are plants in various stages inside this tent. Here are some pics of a Black Cherry Pie by IHG, stacking nicely and frost is coming along. Not the frostiest strain I believe, not on the same level as the Sugarcane and other such strains. Here is a picture of the plants which went into flower on 12 July I think it was...2 points

This is a side view of the F1 pulled out of the pot. It was harvested and left in the pot for around 3 or 4 days so it probably dried a bit more in that time before I pulled it out to inspect.1 point

@The Grass Baas, I dont think they are scared, they are on point and ready to take the market come hell or high water. Big pharma been growing zol in the UK for 15 years already, making sativaX. Read up on GW Pharmaceuticals, hidden facility somewhere in UK. Meanwhile parents are being arressted coming into UK travelling with a few grams of RSO from Canada. Stories easy to find. If you want to go down the rabbit whole, read deep into GW, its scary what they are capable of and what they are doing. I think if you look at "big business", they are all involved in some way already and possibly for a long a time. I have posted it somewhere here and it was part of evidence from the Dagga Couples Trial of the Plant, but cannabis was clearly a threat western culture and made "natives lazy". South Africa started the trouble and it was more to do with racist policies rather than the plant or business, but I rate cotton and the textile industry was under threat:1 point

how was the moisture in the pot with the younger plant? do you only have the issue of the top layer being bone dry with the mature harvest ready plants? if this is the case then it's perfectly normal. pots are same size one with more root mass will mean more water uptake which will cause the water/moisture to never move all the way up to the top of the pot. capilary action will be effected. where as a young plant with less roots will take longer to suck the medium dry and your capilary action will be closer to normal. I would say if you wanted to test the capilary capabilities of your medium, rig a autopot with nothing but medium in it and see what you get? other than that, if you say the F1 medium is right as is and you followed autopot instructions then maybe contact autopot people and tell them you done everything right and there's a design flaw in their product1 point

Here are the prophesied pictures. As you can see, the tops of my colas have elongated, and the leaf tips are soft and rounded, indicating imminent reveg. Absolutely unsure why she is doing that as none of the other flowering plants have any issues with the way they are flowering... Thank goodness I flipped before the flip deadline so I can see how these ladies finish if they fatten up from here on out, I will have some ultra sexy colas that will need some support1 point

Yup, 13 from 15 made it... will mainline all 13 and see what is the result and a little reveg patient.. took quite some time but nice back in veg now..1 point

What an epic weekend, meeting old and new cannabis activists and sharing cannabis culture together. Hard to express the feelings experienced and to be honest it was a very smokey hazey weekend from sunrise to the early hours of the morning. There were about 10 prizes for the growers cup entries, and the overall winner was such a gentleman on top of his craft. Turns out it was a team of two, judges only found out names a couple hours before the announcing of the winners. About 28 strains in total to go through. The winner, Cannaporium from Knysna, took the overall cup with their indoor hydro mandarin cookies. Deon below came to enjoy the festivities the day after the win and we partied and managed to get some pictures with him and his cup. Aaptwak, speed roller 3.2 seconds, had an exciting rolling competition on the final day. I entered my first rolling comp and shaved off 4 seconds off my time. I was hoping to break 10 seconds and did my best kingsize roll at 7.6 seconds, coming in second. RastaOne from Knysna took the belt and title for a 6.5 second roll and his brother came in 3rd. Looking forward to next years event, bigger and better. The old oppikoppis were madness, I barely remember my one attendance. Any of you guys ever go to the Woodstock festival in JHB, they stopped about 14 years ago. The last one was insane in the membrane, police, busts, weed, reggae, hemp and the very stealth cannabis cup on another farm. Mad times, sitting in the rain chatting with a dude coming down from LSD, packing up tents.1 point

We all needed to start somewhere, I too made some silly mistakes when I first started growing. I bought a bunch of autoflower seeds, thinking it would be easier. Luckily I had some members on the forum willing to help and was gifted some nice photoperiods to start with, along with some bagseed to try germinate. Once you are comfortable with the growing process, if you have the money, go for some better and higher end genetics. If not, get some cuttings or find those cheaper gems from local breeders or the cheaper breeders. For indoor, lighting makes a massive difference. Try not to skimp on lights. Then genetics will also make a massive difference, far more of a difference then nutes, secret potions, growing medium (soil, hydro, coco) etc. I feel a lot of products are marketed to try and improve your plants, but ultimately the genetics determine how great the plant can be. The good nutes, environment and so forth just further assist the process and help the plant reach its full potential. If you want frost, no fancy expensive nutes or potions will get you there - genetics will. Just an example1 point

Hi folks, So currently sitting on day 63 of flower and it looks like I avoided a total PM cluster f*ck. The Bubblegum and her clones were removed from the tent and harvested on day 60. Only a couple of days shy of her 9 week window. Trichome was for the most part cloudy and PM only isolated to a couple of leaves that were removed prior to hanging. I will also have to look at the N balance with the next grow. As pointed out by @The_StonedTrooper might have had a little bit too much. Now in the final week and will systemically check trichome for the harvest window. Tortoni #2 Tortoni #1 GSC Palomino + clone Twisted Helix Tent view Bubblegum1 point

Just as a final follow up, this is the result from a 1x1m indoor grow area. I did not veg for particularly long, plants were ~30cm at time of flip. No real training, very low effort. So with a longer veg and better training I'm sure the yield would have been quite a bit higher.1 point
-
Quick update. I've done two grows now under the 240w QB and the difference in yield vs what I was getting in roughly the same space before is incredible. I think its probably a five times improvement with no other change, and that is using a less than 50% of the electricity I was before with the cheaper + DIY lights. I'm not sure 500% would be what everyone should expect, but a significant improvement seems a reasonable expectation.1 point
