  1. The only way to counter that as a small guy would be to grow the dankest bud that everybody wants a piece of and sell it boutique style. Commercialization comes with uniformity and meh-ness. As a small time grower you would have the ability to focus on the finer details and not on scale, outclassing big commerce. Grow the best damn niche shit you can and put the utmost focus on absolute quality so that you can have people banging on your door for more. My

  3. Hi folks. So I came across this exciting article of the first company to get a licence to produce, package and distribute cannabis and related products. They are also looking at entering the psilocybin space which I am very excited for. The company, Cilo Cybin, is also looking at an IPO locally and internationally. I definitely want to find out more about this company but it seems like they got their shit together and also have the capital and expertise to enter into this market while it is in its infancy. Might be a clever move to buy in if the company's strategy looks sound. Enjoy the read. https://businesstech.co.za/news/technology/515352/cannabis-company-plans-listing-after-being-handed-first-rights-to-grow-and-package-weed-products-in-south-africa/

  4. This is quite crazy, seems someone got their fingers in the right pie sitting at a table with the right people. R30/g "Wholesale" price is shocking, these guys are going to make an absolute killing! I worry that these big corporations are going to make it impossible for us small guys to get in on the business once it's all legal. They're being given opportunities that others are still being arrested for, and the only reason I can think of that happening is because someones pockets are being filled with cash. This is great news, and I hope to not come across as a serious downer, but this does make me worry a little. I don't know, is it just me?

  5. Day 5 of Week 16 Update They got nothing... also expecting to be on track and go flush Day 1 of Week 17. The harvest day should be 2nd September, what gives me 5 days to jar and weight the material and finish the grow. I check to have the potency tests done 7th September before Noon. What a rush to get all done in time I really enjoyed this grow run with the time pressure. Learned so much from the people using different fertilizers. What a blast so far Tarryn Sisa

  7. There is a government sponsored facility opposite our bush pub that looks like shite to be honest but it's there. The owner brags about government connection's, spends big bucks supporting local business but charge's 5k/h if you want to chat to him about getting a foothold in the industry. 8. That's just how business works. And there is a lot of things going on behind doors that people don't even know about. Weed is already being sold to pharmaceutical companies for testing and over sea dispensaries and people have no clue that this is actually already happing and with it still being illegal. What my friends company is doing is just hitting that same market "legitimately". But do you think they are really going to be the "first"? You need to drop at least 5M to build facility, everything needs to be to the T with requirements and safety, than you need a head pharmist in charge of all operations and product testing (lab testing not smoking test) all that must be done and obtained before officials come on site and approve it which than after you obtain a license to grow. Not everyone has that type of money But there's also a big number of facilities that are not licensed and are all operating. A big number actually. And guess whos getting a big cut? I won't go to into much detail on how I know this. And the truth is there is no place in the market for us home growers, unless you doing black market, start your own grow facility or know someone in a high position in those grow ops that can aprrove you as a grower and even that you won't sell your stuff. You will grow for them.. So as for home growers to grow and sell their stuff we most probably won't ever see that because than "someone" won't be getting a cut that way

  10. Go to 1ml Grow per liter till Flip. Watch the tips of your leaves. When you see yellow at the very end. Give them twice just water, then go back to Grow/Fish. If you don't have.. you need BioBizz Bio Heaven. The BioBizz range is build around that product, is the key to all the buds I grow. If you do not want to spend the cash on BioBizz Bio Heaven, get a bottle of Canna Pro - Amino Boost (as good or even better). The Amino Boost is 150 bugs for a liter and you would add 2ml on 10 liters for your plants.. also till flip. Very very worth it! I do not Ph my rain water using Amino Boost. If you want to go the full way.. get a bottle of BioBizz Fish-Mix too and swap each feed with Grow. Bloom you get when you flip. The moment you flip, you also give them their first shot of Bloom. The Fish-Mix has some potency, don't toy around with it. 1ml per liter is max you give when using FF Green Bag soil. Flip you give 1 Grow, 2 Bloom and (4ml per liter Bio Heaven or 3ml per 10 liter Amino Boost). When the flowers reach the size of the tip of your pinky, small finger. You add the next product.. Top Max. 1ml per liter. And increase that till max 4ml per liter during the last 2 weeks of flower. The moment you add Top Max is also the moment I go 3ml Bloom per liter and stick to it till the end. You can PM me any time you have a question... I answer when I see and have the time.

  12. So far I've managed to do a max of 4 of the possible 5 sessions a week available to me. I am aiming to do 5 sessions this week but we will see how it goes listening to the body and taking a session off when needed has been a necessary lesson. I am busy nursing a sprained foot, sprained thumb and bruised tail bone working around that during training makes you think a lot more about where you're open and absolutely preventing certain positions for your self to avoid further injury to the same area. Some days I murder dudes, some days I get railroaded. It's the motion of the ocean which makes things feel very fair in general. At no-gi I've learnt a lot of submissions and leg lock play, where-as at gi (which I am coming up to about a month of training now) we haven't technically learnt any submissions yet.. so sometimes I'll whip out some submissions at gi which technically none of the other white belts on my level have learnt yet. They mostly just go for rear naked chokes in the rare event they can get to my back. Sometimes they comment that I'm using hacks, it does feel like a cheeky advantage but hey We are generally told to roll with guys on our levels but there is an open invitation during live/technical rolling at the end of class usually to roll with anyone you want. I got paired with a blue belt once and it felt like I didn't know anything, he just rag dolled me and I just ended up defending the whole roll. The biggest improvement thus far has just been the fitness. In the beginning I'd tap just because a dude was putting pressure on my chest while I was already exhausted. That hasn't happened again in a good month or so now. Since working from home full-time having the gyms to go to on the regular has really been great.

  13. Tuesday 23rd August: week 8 of flower. Ladies still looking good. T3 has started developing a purple color to her leaves. My research reveals this to be a phosphorus deficiency. It must be related to the nutrients I'm giving her because another plant on the same feed cycle as her is doing the same. She's currently on GHE Bloom 3ml/l I'll flush her over the next few days to try sort it out. Photos taken just after lights off tonight.

  15. Hey Fam, @Pantsplant had me thinking, the one that has gotten attacked and a ring to the stem made. Now, if that normally effects trees and the likes, but wouldnt probably effect Cannabis the same way, made me think of the grows I've had, and how this matters? Over the years, I have grown in a few mediums, and different variations of media. Experienced, stems that are like bamboo and hollow, like a straw. Then had stems that have been as hard and dense, as a young pine tree. Would that different stem, make a difference? Out of curiosity, who grows in what, and how do your stems look. Bless

  17. Unless they will replace the seeds which don't germinate at no additional cost to you, I do not see much of the appeal. If you're new to growing then rather get some bag seed and play around with that until you're confident enough to germ your own seeds and maybe start with some cheap seeds. How well will they package the seedlings and what happens if they die in transit? Whose fault is it then and who covers costs? Seedlings are super fragile, at least cuttings are typically larger and more established and hardier and often cheaper than buying seeds.
    2 points
  18. The only real benefit I see is if they take onus upon themselves to replace any seed that doesn't germinate, sort of like an insurance policy. Otherwise, popping seeds is all part of the adventure. At that price tag you could just buy more seeds instead of the service and even the inexperienced should be able to get sprouting

  23. fresh aggressive growth on weed most often has hollow stems, which become filled and hard over time as the plants grow. slow growth normally skips the hollow stem stage and grows solid from the get go... you want to aim for the first example

  25. I'm so happy with the progress these plants have made, looking mighty fine and getting a bit bushy now. This leads me to some questions I hope you guys are able to give your input on. I've got 11lt pots these guys need to move in to. When should I consider doing the move? and then with regards to some LST, should I begin doing that now in these pots or is that something I should only start when they're in their final pots? Topping these plants is also something I'd like some advice on, from what I've read and seen they're getting close to where it's suggested to do this. Lastly I've got a question for the BioBizz man @Prom, these guys are getting thirsty, needing another watering tonight. Do I feed another 2ml/ltr of BioGrow? Should I be giving them this every watering now? Should I be giving them anything else at this point? Thanks in advance, happy Wednesday all!

  26. I did capoeira and ninjutsu for about 4 years in parallel, very different philosophies. The worst was standing in line for body conditioning and getting punched in the stomach to strengthen your core.

  27. hey man, that seems pretty cool. everyday we have a new service or product in the local cannabis market! I feel this one is for the guys with a lot of limitations and a excess of cash. If you're not really all that into learning how to have good success rates with your germination methods and you got $ laying around, this will really help. but I feel in most situations it will be better to pop your own seeds, even if you suck at it, it's a good time to learn something new. especially with that price tag. if you wana pop a 5 pack you gotta pay R100 for each seed, that means R500 just to pop 5 seeds for me? DAMN

  28. I have seen solid stems and hollow stems, could just be cultivars but I watched a podcast and an agronomist commented on it, and he said somewhere along the line nutritional integrity is being lost and the plants growth is being hindered. For cannabis specifically. Not sure how true this is though. But it kind of makes sense.

  33. A cutworm will be orientated on its side when circling the stem, this will leave horizontal bite marks. There are other types of insects that could be responsible but that looks like typical cutworm damage. I see you have other pots nearby.. it could be making the commute nightly (if it's still around). It may have since been killed or could be pupating in your soil somewhere.

  37. You know initially it's exactly what I thought because I've seen loads of plants look like this from other growers but this competition has made me question everything lately. It's been great to have all the experience and expertise of all the other growers commenting on your own grow. I'm really enjoying growing your genetics, so I thank you again. Loving this competition too. I'll definitely be back for the next one.

  38. Ahh I got you, flushing to correct issues makes sense and something I agree with and can totally see the benefit behind. Was trying to understand why you were flushing, whether there was a need to or if you were just doing it because people said so or what etc. I've read articles where they state one should always water coco until I think it was 30% runoff - personally I see this as a waste of time, money (nutes) and just a lot of extra effort. I do prefer to "flush" with what the plants need, so if you fed too high or gave your flower plants veg nutes, then a flush with the right nutes at the correct dose can remedy the issue in coco quite easily. High dose of nutes can burn one's plants and certainly something you want to avoid and try resolve if you accidentally did so, before damage is caused. Flushing with plain tap water and leaving the plant as so, different story and not something I feel is necessary. Same goes for flushing coco randomly just because. I know some like to do it and some recommend it, the main reason I've found is to prevent nute build up and this I can understand and get behind but as mentioned in my experience, generally isn't needed. As @greenkush mentioned, a sudden change in EC isn't great for the plants and osmosis occurs. Some products labelled for use in flushing simply raise the EC to help prevent this, without providing the plants with nutes... In other words, just starving the plants which actually isn't something one wants to do. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk

  39. Ive decided to go back to GHE, also that I’ll be running RDWC. In my last grow with coco and hortimix I found something was a bit off with the batch, after using it for close to a year I just found it far to much effort then it’s worth, having to use close to 220ML of A and B to get the required EC in 25 L of water. Will rather just carry the cost burden with GHE.
    1 point
  40. I’ve seen two schools of thought on flushing to fix something (not the end of life flush, that’s another debate altogether). Some suggest flushing 3 x the volume of your pot with water or a product like GHE / TA Flashkleen. Theory is it will “strip” the media of all salts etc and allow a clean start. Newer thoughts are to flush with what the plant needs at that stage in its life, eg pre-flower, at the correct EC and pH for pre-flower. This serves to flush away excess but at the same time doesn’t shock the root system as much. After growing for a year, I don’t flush anymore. I would if I needed to. But as someone said above, less is more. Don’t overfeed, don’t over water, be ridiculously frugal with feeding and watering seedlings. Keep that coco damp. I’ve also adopted a supplement process to the TA Tri part. I use CalMag, Silica and Epsom salts (on rotation with each new reservoir). Sometimes Biodyne, sometimes Hydrogen Peroxide goes in. All at min (maintenance) dosages and running nutes at 70 to 80% of recommended strength, EC usually between 1.3 and 1.7. I have also started the occasional Epsom salts foliar spray on vegging plants, at a super low EC like 0,2 (that’s with the tap water contributing 0,1 to that) I do this before I see issues, it’s like prevention is better than cure.

  41. Ons Tortoni is hella spear shaped, and to be honest, seems to be filling out nicely. Can't wait to harvest, being the plant that looked the dullest, she seems to be putting out the prettiest. The fatty stack one is going amazing, looks like I'll get a good 6 golfball off her. Pics to follow in the AM

  42. That is amazing ,stem that size in a pot so small. Nice growing. Probably just a outsider marsupial doing some stem art on something so interesting. Yip a porcupine might have knocked it over ( top heavy ) while a field mouse would not be able to.
    1 point
  43. I think it could be a small house mouse or something along those lines/mole/rat. Unlike ringbarking trees, water and nutrients for cannabis flow up the internal part of the stem, so it should not be a problem.

  45. I finally decided to harvest. The 1 Crescendo and Headbanger could of definitely gone abit longer but due to space everything must be Chopped! This was definitely a challenging grow, not being there daily to check up on plants and feeding has cause some problems. The Blumat watering worked great but needs to be monitored daily as I've had pipes blocked abit and those plants sufferred from that only noticing a few days later. Now time to wait and see how they turn out and taste.
