  3. Back crossing is when you cross an F3 for eg. Back to one of the parents. Not just any plant from the same F2 generation, but the exact parent plant(usually the male, but you can reverse backcross onto a female too) You'd do this because a trait(most likely recessive) has popped up in the F3 based on your male selections that you'd like to see more often in the next generation. The goal is to ensure you get a double copy of the gene expression to make it dominant. Backcrossing is a way of stabilizing and locking in traits. It's interesting to note that a backcross brings as much stability as 3 filial generations worth of selections. What makes breeding a challenge is that while you are trying to select for good traits, there are undesirable traits that need eliminating too, so a backcross does not translate to a good cross necessarily and selections will always be important.

  4. Got some closeup shots tonight Trichomes look mostly milky, not too many amber. Pots are still a bit heavy so will make the chop as soon as they feel light.

  6. Finally harvested this Bubba Banana for scale [emoji23] Bud drying in veg tent Moms and tortonis(I revived my 2 tortonis that made their exit previously in my grow [emoji16]) Moved to larger tent for veg and new 265 w 301b qb installed with wifi switch. They are really loving this light and I got the dimmer switch at only 50% on the slider. So I'm waiting on the bud to dry, then going to shift some plants and probably try flower my 2 tortonis and one of the following in that tent(below plants are 2 months old from mail order clones) -frosted apricots -critical mass cheese -crescendo -Slurricane ix -banana mac The plan now is to automate my watering and drainage because I'm tired of manual draining and [emoji97]. I plan on a rdwc system but will probably end up with a dwc if I know myself haha

  7. I havent posted on the forum for quite a while but lets not get into that. Lets rather just get to growing The strains for the season is as follows for now and might change: Chocolate Gelato Royal Banner Slurricane Cheese Blue Kush Berry This grow will be kept to a budget and for any of you that is new to Outdoor growing or maybe just want to see what can be done with the minimum of products, I will show you. Last season i pulled just under 2kg dry bud. Its not much for some, but for me its more than a years bud. I will also add prices and suppliers for those that need it. I will be heading out end of the month to buy my soil mix etc and will mix and share when it comes down to that. Until then have a great weekend and chat soon...

  9. Empty room. You can't burn Sulphur in a running room.. that would render your flowers none smokable.

  10. No probs man, I did a big defol on them a few nights ago, it was just getting too leafy in there. I've got 3 distinctly different plants in the making here... T1, this is the pheno I think looks like yours: T2, she is very tall with big node spacing: T3- the organic girl she is short and stocky with nice tightly spaced buds: Group photo:

  17. Thanks for popping in man. I will be more accurate with the seed selection because they are in storage in the fridge. Monday I will get them out, get them a little acclimatized and on the 1st Sept i will plant them.... I am doing a total of 7 plant as to last years 10. The yield might be little less but i am gonna do some twerks early on to try and achieve close to or equal to last seasons harvest.

  18. I use Aqsf with a wetting agent (fulvic powder). This can control it well depending on when you catch it but most importantly you can spray this on buds until harvest day. Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk

  19. Wow this has been quite the messy grow for me. I'm glad I pulled out when I did. Also found out that my tap water now has an EC of over 1300 (https://www.420sa.co.za/topic/5960-very-high-ec-tap-water/). Most annoying There are some great looking plants, well done everyone (else :) )

  24. Day 5 of Week 16 Update They got nothing... also expecting to be on track and go flush Day 1 of Week 17. The harvest day should be 2nd September, what gives me 5 days to jar and weight the material and finish the grow. I check to have the potency tests done 7th September before Noon. What a rush to get all done in time I really enjoyed this grow run with the time pressure. Learned so much from the people using different fertilizers. What a blast so far Tarryn Sisa

  25. Tuesday 23rd August: week 8 of flower. Ladies still looking good. T3 has started developing a purple color to her leaves. My research reveals this to be a phosphorus deficiency. It must be related to the nutrients I'm giving her because another plant on the same feed cycle as her is doing the same. She's currently on GHE Bloom 3ml/l I'll flush her over the next few days to try sort it out. Photos taken just after lights off tonight.

  29. Week 16 - Day108 (023/08/2021) HORTIMIX-DWC Got back a little later than expected This is the current state of my lady Since i've been gone - I've had my girlfriend do a Once a week res change. Once a week Efekto spray. Once a week H202 spray. Theres some burn on the leaves from H2O2 and theres also some mildew on the inner leaves Ive installed an extractor fan in this tent now, to help with air exchanges, and help with the mildew issues Today she's getting a reservoir change, a defoliation, and a H2O2 spray. I want to switch to flower by the end of this week

  30. Good evening contestant's [emoji91][emoji323] Nothing spesial this week , same watering and feeding. #1 the topped one I'm still liking , #2 fimmed thought it would be closer to #1 size wise but it's smaller and then #3 Xmas tree just might be the best yielded . If I scroll back it looks like we start week 8 tomorrow. Nice shiny dense buds. Sent from my Hisense Infinity H50 using Tapatalk

  32. Alright okes! What a shocker of a plant!! She is still doing Her weird shit and doesn't seem to be slowing down on the pistols! Not a fade or a brown pistol in sight - she truly has me baffled. She is the only plant that's being weird in my flower tent... And I still have no answer as to why...

  33. As deciding when to harvest is quite a decision to make. I go a bit deeper into 'detail' why I do what. And as usual, use me only as a indicator.. I can't walk over water or bend the laws of physics... yet Two sections of the bud.. lower part with sugar leaves. You find very little amber and majority is milky to clear still. Milky is the easiest to spot against the green background. If you know there is a trichome but you cant really define it.. is clear, not amber. How honest you are to what you see is a bit key. Middle part, mix of sugar leaves and calyxes, flowers. Most here is still clear and just started to get milky, no amber to be found. Those are sections from the bud of the post before. Pistils are mostly dry as you see, and if you harvest now, potency would be rather low. Just needs more time to ripen. As you remove all leaf material, also the sugar leaves, while dressing.. just makes zero sense to harvest with the sugar leaves as indicator. When the final material shows the right signs you harvest. Is a nasty waiting game

  35. Long time... The severe cold we experienced in the highveld slowed things down quite considerably since the last update. They have recovered quite nicely, the plan is to let them veg for the rest of the week and flip to 12/12 on Sunday to get them to show gender. Once this has been determined, reveg and selection. If you see any promising plants please feel free to comment, selection is not a strong point. Only 4 will stay in the tent the balance is going outside to do their thing. I have an agreement with a mate to house the best of any males with the intention of harvesting pollen for possible future chucking. 24 July highs and lows This morning. µs - around 1500 PH fluctuates with every new solution, current reading is 5.8

  36. Everyone has a different way of doing their defol, I literally strip my plants bare before I flip. Remove anything from node 3 and below and put them straight into flower. Then around week 2 or 3 into flower, after a lot of the stretch has happened they're bushes again and another defol is required to open the canopy and allow the light to penetrate and shine on the buds. Doing this helps prevent fluff and skits, if you want the fluff and skits then keep a few more nodes when doing the defol.

  37. Nutes are nutes, can be used in soil, coco, hydro - whatever really. GHE has a chart for soil and then a separate one for coco / hydro. You'd just follow the soil chart which is lower strength in comparison as soils have some nutrients in there already, unlike coco and hydro. As for chemicals, well, I get where you are coming from but avoiding them altogether is near impossible. Chemicals... Does not mean they are bad either. They save lives, they help reduce famine. Artificial is not a bad thing either, sometimes artificial is better for nature and the environment even. The plants are the ones processing the nutes, not you and your body and the plants are very happy with the nutes too. Upto you, if you don't want to use nutes then don't I'd let the plants get a bit bigger before flipping to flower.

  38. So here’s quite an update, all the plants have seeds in them. It started with the big one, so I tried to remove all the infected area, but it seems what I thought could have been swollen calyx were actually seeds. And it seem there are lots of them. This could have been the cause of a digital timer that just stayed on one day and that day I noticed the tent still on 3 hours are it should have been off. I’m there daily and would have noticed. Will be done with the comp from here on out, goodluck everybody!
