Hi guys I've been very scarce on the forum of late and just thought I should clear the air before any speculation arises. Firstly, I am in the process of starting a new business and it has been all systems go. There has been planning, ordering, building and a lot more. I just don't have the time to sit down and spend time on the forum at the moment. That doesn't mean I haven't been visiting at all, but when I do there is another issue which I point out in the paragraph below... Secondly, and this has been an issue for quite some time now... and that is site speed for me is really bad.... it takes about 2 minutes to load a page and I have no idea why. Loading a growoff diary is a nightmare that I often flatout just give up on it. This doesn't appear to be the case with everyone so it comes down to my ISP. An ISP change may be the solution but it's a mission and one I'm not willing to try and address at the moment, given everything else I am busy with at the moment. Make no mistake, I am still fully committed to this forum but my livelihood must take precedence at this time so I just ask for your guys understanding and patience. I know I have fallen behind with the growoff as well as forum competitions and will do my best to catch up this week. Please bear with me This does however mean that our SOTM may possibly not run again till later this year or possibly only get going again in Jan next year. So I'm really sorry about that one guys. I have put a great deal of effort and my time into this forum since it was started back in 2014 and I was always worried that there may come a time when I need to drop my guard for a while. That time is now but as I say, this isn't a permanent situation and we will get this forum firing at all cylinders again once the business has hopefully hit a groove. Thanks all for your understanding9 points

Day 45 12/12. I'm at the stage you all were a while back. Watching and waiting. Plants are happy and doing their thing. 4 weeks to go.6 points

And just like that, we are done Plant #1 and the chosen one is as per the pics below. I trimmed up one bud properly to see the bud structure. The rest was wet trimmed of all big fan leaves(final dry trim to come) post drying. So after 11 weeks of flower, she is looking grand. The plant I chose was slightly smaller than the other one, but I felt like the bud structure was nice, good colour, and frosty AF! This is some serious sticky icky goodness @Totemic Thanks for the seeds and the competition, and all the awesome peeps who participated. It's a pity I didn't get to dedicate more time, as I really feel that if I had not neglected them for weeks at a time, that I would of turned up even better results. But it's a testament to the ridiculously good genetics as they really shown through even with the abuse. Soil: Mix of Freedom farms and my own custom blend Nutrients: BioBizz Bloom and Grow as well as molasses and some banana tea at the end Light: Phoenix Sky Sunplus 200 (240w) Th pics don't do her justice really. Apparently 3 were excluded (+ my video) also as I hit the limit but there you go4 points

I've been thinking the growth this week was minimal, having the plants trained you don't have height to use as a reference point . Looking at last weeks pictures here it's quite clear just how much these girls have grown. My methods have caused all the growth of these plants to land up on 1 side of the pots, training this week has been an attempt at rectifying that. Progress is slow but definitely noticeable. My 3 bag seed survivors have been sent to great outdoors. The spot isn't great, it gets some shade throughout the day. I don't have too much faith in them, but I don't plan to watch over them as I do the 3 in my tent. If they don't survive I see it as no loss haha . Interested to see what happens though.4 points

Anther week gone by and Im deceived to cut the veg time from the initial plan of 8 weeks to 6 weeks. So this weeks all about defioliation and recovery before we flip. I quickly found out that leaving your plants unattended for a week is a bad idea The Zkittlez started showing signs of deficiency. To me it seemed like either Potassium / Magnesium or Calcium. Since it's newer growth that's being effected I decided to give it some cal-mag. If anyone else knows what it might be feel free to share. All in all I'm happy with the overall health of the plants, gave them some lollipops for their good behavior and so will be flipping them soon That's it for this week cheeeeeers4 points

what's gooood my guys psy, I see what you saying and it is true, but only to a certain extent. the bigger the fan base the more room for error kinda thing. difference is, it's all opinion based, there is no fact as to say "the best weed out there" that term shouldn't exist, which means you can't say even one guy is wrong in selecting what he likes more. infact, it boils down to simple maths. find the mode. if your liking, on something which is opinion based, differs from the masses it just means you're singled out from the masses. doesn't mean the masses are wrong about anything, because simply there is no factual "best" when it comes to weed. it's all based on preference. you can't tell someone they're wrong because they like something different than you. so, in a situation like this, either we're singled out from the masses or we accept that our opinion differs from the masses, but calling the masses wrong cause it doesn't suit your liking is a dangerous game to play with the black lable poo water, there are similarities and I get the compatison, but again it's based on preference. we have a end product on our hands here. the beer is already shit, so nothing to say about that by itself, but because it's botteled and as a whole there is a fixed price to it and all kinds of fixed objectives that put a beer in the place of being factually compartmentalised as one "product" and that it is better than the "product" next to it. for this reason I totally agree that there are companies that misuse their power. as soon as pricing and packaging comes into play we can jump from opinion to facts. though, we have to take into concideration, the cookies brand did not take the world by storm because of their cool packaging and cheap pricing. they DEFINITELY did not outsell their competion by underpricing their product. they grew out some danky dank that the masses fucked with, this gave them the opportunity, platform and street credit to create a brand for quite a while actually before the "cookies" strain was crossed and brought onto the market. they didn't go from 0 to 100 by creating the cookies brand, in fact they could only create the cookies brand once they where already at 100 and everyone was already fucking with them.3 points

Full house good thing other tent will be available again soon. This weekend the trees-to-be in the back got slight alfalfa mulch island top ups and diatomaceous earth around the stem. Also did some slight defoilation of inner and lower branches. They got some time in the sun outside on Saturday but rearranging the whole tent to get them in and out is a mission yoh it will be easier once some other plants move to the other tent soon and there is more space. This week, they have been fed with Amino boost, very light dose of fish mix, microbes, activera and k50 for silica.3 points

Week 17 Update / Flower Week 11 / Harvest Thanks to 420sa fam for this experience. Being a part of this competition has pushed me to be better and pushed my hardware budget also Thanks to everyone involved and thank you all for allowing me to enter late. Overall I'm pretty happy with the result even with the 16 day handicap. This girl stole my heart right at the end with her colour and vigor. So the time of reckoning is upon us (or me).. I bring forth Tortoni #2 for your judgment and viewing pleasure..3 points

So been itching for an upgrade, as always. The space is coming together as some of you might know. This weekend I’m heading into the automation game. After a lot of research and being a iOS developer and Apple guy, I settled on the Aqara range for now. Got a camera+hub for R1300, temperature/humidity sensor for R350 amd switches for just over 400 each. The first 10 mins went smooth. Pairs the camera and sensor and got this with no fuss. Currently playing with Siri Shortcuts to get a historical graph. Got the sensors output to a file and into Charty, giving me this.2 points

Utilizing the latest evidence and investigations, this series promises to present new information in a hunt for the truth about infamous, iconic monsters and their origins. It features eyewitness accounts and all-new stories while unveiling eye-opening theories about these nightmarish beasts. Wowzers what an intro! I'm intrigued if I may say so myself. That, however, is actually the description from IMDB for the TV program In Search Of Monsters but it seems appropriate here. I'm looking to grow a monster of a tree that could serve as a Christmas tree at the end of the year if things go well. This journal will document the journey. So the game plan is to take one of the Tortoni clones in the veg tent outside when the sun comes around in Spring, with a headstart into veg. End goal is a 200L pot and have 10L, 15L, 20L, 30L and 80L options to get me there. 80L is the biggest I've grown in so this could/should be a personal best for me in terms of growing a tree, especially with the headstart. In the veg tent, we have our clones: 12 Tortoni's - I took 6 cuttings each from Tortoni #1 & #3 from the 2021 indoor grow-off. Despite my noobness at cloning and it getting pretty cold at times I somehow have all 12 cuts alive, albeit to varying degrees of strength. I'll take that as a win, and beginners luck but I'm sure it actually has a lot to do with working with quality material. Something about these @Totemicgenetics having an incredibly strong desire to live - kudos where it is due Biggest plant you see here at the moment, right-centre in this pic is a Critical Churchill seed I had left lying around. The rest are the Tortoni clones. Those 3 in black single plastic pots in the tray were the first to root and are clearly the most developed of the clones at this point. But that's where we are starting from and going to. Thank you in advance to anyone who offers their insights, tips and suggestions2 points

from your statement about the graph, i am not sure you understand it correctly. this isnt a mix and match chart, but more of an info chart. it tells you what your VPD is by charting your CURRENT temp vs your CURRENT Rh. so by saying you need to go above 30 degrees to get a RH of 65 is wrong. an example is as follows. the early veg tent temp is a cool 25 degrees, and humidity is a bit low today at 40% - that means your VPD is 1.41, not exactly ideal for early veg, but it is what it is. if you want to change the vpd to a better veg VPD, you will need to raise the RH with a humidifier to between 60 -70% while the temp stays at 25. OR lower the temp down to 15 degrees while RH stays at 40%. so it is just a chart showing where you are, and indicating your course of action to improve your vpd depending on the phase of growth. let me know if this makes more sense to you...because it can be a very powerful piece of knowledge to carry around with you2 points

A local suppliers, but who is the breeder? If the supplier is just that - a supplier - and not the breeder, it is then in no way their fault but more the fault of the breeder as far as I see it. My experience with autos has also been a bit all over the place to be honest. I feel one needs to be a bit fussier with the breeders and possibly do a bit more research and homework as to which strains are worth while and show consistent results.2 points

Thanks to everyone who followed along and to everybody that pitched in with such great advise and recommendations, it really helped me up my game. It's been about a week since my last update. Since then I've given up on the one cheese seed that didn't germinate, and I've planted another that is looking good and healthy. In this update I specifically want to address the two in my previous post that looked a little sad. In the images below you can see it looks like a gogga indeed had a little chomp on one baby leaf, but that plant is now coming along just fine. The other (one of the Dinamed seedlings) is struggling - the leaves are still very small, a little deformed and also yellowing. I expect a nutrient deficiency at this stage is very unlikely. Could this be related to over watering? For context, here's the other Dinamed seedling which was planted on the same day and given exactly the same treatment (except that it's in fabric pot as opposed to plastic).2 points

Ok, I think it's flat and bushy enough now. I've set the timer to 12/12, 9am off-9pm on. First photoperiod, let's see what happens to this random plant.2 points

Update pic of the young ones. Soon they will go into bigger pots for sexing. Im pretty sure the Pineapple Chunk will give mostly female, I hope. Really hoping for Bruce Banner fems. Havent had a single female from the whole batch. Just for record, the Chocolate Gelato has their own thread due to them being testers for cannabist. So if you are interested in maybe getting that strain in the future, pop in there and check it out. Here is some info I have on those seedlings I do have ready for the season. These are my own personal description of what I experienced : PINEAPPLE CHUNK : Originally got Pineapple Chunk from Paradise Seeds and one pollinated due to a little stress, I guess. The result so far has been pretty good. The buds is hard, compact and trichome covered. After 2 weeks of curing it does smell like pineapple and after grinding it up as well. It gets me pretty goofed after 2 or 3 pipes and taste decent, smooth and citrussy... Blue Kush Berry: Regular Seeds was purchased from Sannies Seeds more than 5 years ago.Might be 8. Got a male and female and tried my hand at breeding. They were bred under cfl's and the plants was small due to stealth. The seeds were very small and about half the size of regular seeds. Cant remember the profile but stay tuned to find out. Girl Scout Cookies x Bruce Banner#3: GSC - BC Bud BB#3 - Dark Horse Genetics Was given seeds by another forum friend/hobbiest grower/plant guru to test and holy shit, I was blown away. Frosty, hard and sticky Sativa dominant lady. Buds was easy to trim seeing that had a golfball type bud and the bud to leaf ratio was little. Easy to trim and a pleasure to smoke. Gets me through a day of pain. Takes away a lot of tension and gets me lekker stoned. A great night time smoke after a heavy and kak day... Bruce Banner #3 Dark Horse Genetics In hopes of getting a female from this one. Haven't grown it out yet but hoping to this year... Royal Banner: Royal Gorilla - RQS BB - Dark Horse Genetics One of my favorite strains to date. Smells sweet with deep aroma. Upon exhaling I get a pleasant cheese aftertaste. Even though all my strains get me high, this one just knocks me from the 1st inhale and when I keep the hash for last,..... Phew . Slurricane Cheese : Was given as a present from a friend next door. Let try and see what happens 1st time growing this one. Also not sure if its male or female So that's it for now. Have a great Saturday and enjoy the rest of this weekend2 points

And for the people interested, the smoke report after 2 weeks on 62%. Bud smells more earthy with a sweet hint of Tumeric. Shredded the sweet smell intensivies quite a bit. I tried to define it a bit more and went sniffing on the spice rack, couldnt find something matching, even the hint of Tumeric is covered more by a smell of plastic foil you had candy wrapped in. Rolled in my usual way, 5 parts weed, 1 part cigarette First toke is as smooth as it should be was on flush. You have to focus and look very hard to find the little sweetness. Mostly a earth smoke, reminded me of the Bruce Banner Autos. The weed might need way longer curing. I test it in a few weeks again. I stick to my point that i dont judge a strain after 2 beans... and unlucky, both had the same pheno swing. Would be a bit like a foreigner says South Africa sucks and just entered customs. The plants i had reacted rather unimpressed to HST, that counts for strong genetics. On the other hand they didnt show resistance to powdery mildew, but also no special weakness to it either. Rather uncomplicated grow run. And reaching close to 15% THC on a first run of a strain, tells right away, there is some UMPF in the genetics Will try a bigger batch of Tortoni first quarter 22. The results i saw from other competitors, wants me to take a closer look Was fun, Thank You very much to all organizers, judges, prize donors, competitors and the breeder of the beans You all rock and hope you have a sexy weekend. This is THE END2 points

Howzit, yoh that looks solid @Weskush, inspired and sad I didn't freaking top after your guys advice. It's too late for these ladies, but I have 2 smaller ladies - OG Cheese and Wedding Cake currently vegging. Will try your method on them, let the experimenting begin - Well in a couple weeks1 point

VPD can be extremely difficult to control though as there are factors which one can often find difficult to control, or difficult to control to match a good VPD. Such as humidity and temperature. In both cases, if you need to lower your RH or temp you often require an aircon and/or dehumidifier. Not cheap and even when you have this equipment sometimes it is not sufficient to ensure the RH and temps are always kept within the set range - especially humidity as the dehumidifier can only remove soo much water at a time and the more plants, the more moisture is being released etc. My room is not always spot on for the VPD. I try control it as much as possible though but well shit. Just gotta make the best of it.1 point

I hope this post is not to late. Please look at this video. I really think it’s the way to go if you want to grow monsters.1 point
-
Yea, getting them taller does have advantages, you're able to defoliate around the legs and manage the air flow better, if you have a decent light that reaches down your plant you could use the extra bud sites to make yourself some massive colas In the end, it's what works for you and your circumstance and your setup. Having a clear idea of when you're going to pull the trigger does help making the decision easier, for now and for refining your method in the future.. so your goal of 35cm above ground is a pretty clear set intent, no need to be conflicted And if you find at the end that it didn't work the way you liked, you always have a metric that you can revise, let's rather do 45cm or 60cm, or you might find no difference in yield between vegging 6 weeks or 10 weeks and you can cut a month out, it's always a learning curve and you'll find your own groove eventually. Good luck dude1 point

@donnob, I appreciate the input, dude! I think I'll give them another week or 2 and re-evaluate.I don't plan to SCROG this time around and I'm aware of the stretch that happens, at this stage they could quadruple in height and still be okay. Plants are roughly 25cm high from soil. My thoughts were to have that reach about 35cm and begin flower, but that would also require me to now stop tying them down and actually start letting them naturally grow otherwise they just become wider. I'm a little conflicted and have been hoping for one of those "when you know, you know" moments .1 point
-
It depends on how you want this to pan out, how much pot you have for your roots and how much tent you have. Are you looking to fill your tent and scrog these guys? In which case I'd probably install the net at your desired height and ride it out until it's full then flip. Are you're looking to top, get a few extra colas and even out your canopy before flower? In that case looks like you've achieved that, to me these girls look mature enough to go to flower, you could give them this week then flip but in the end it's all up to you, your gear and your goals. Can't really see the height you have from your photos but they don't look overly short. Remember the gals are going to stretch during flower also and could easily double or even sometimes triple their height, so be careful not to get them too high and run out of vertical tent space. Also remember the growth spurt in flower comes with root growth as well so vegging too long could constrict your roots. I see you have air pots though which assist in self pruning the roots so I think you should be okay there but maybe someone who's had experience with those pots could comment here1 point

a very good example here is the KK, big hype in america when Wiz Khalifa brought out his own kush cross, it was for himself, a weed that only he likes. this weed is available at dispensaries and it is without a doubt one of the most niche branded weeds out there. not even priced that harsh, yet it doesn't make it into the big time big league market. why not? It wasn't made for the masses, Wiz didn't care about what would sell the best, he made something for himself and it sells accordingly.1 point

Which breeder? Breeders that do not do the work on autos will have these issues. When you cross an auto with an photo period the F1 off spring is 90% photo period. When you take a male and a female from the F1 of spring and cross it again you create F2 off spring. With the F2’s you run them under 24 hours of light. You only breed with the ones that have the recessive traits I.e. the auto flowering trait. Those that flower under 24 hours of light. From the F3 generation you see stable auto flowering traits. The good breeders only start selecting the characteristics that they want in the plant from this generation and breed with these plants. Good auto flower genetics where photoperiod plants where bread to be auto flowers is only really released from F3/F4 onwards. But allot of breeders are only their to make money. You need to be picky with genetics/breeders. Follow the guys on instagram or just look at there pages. Good Breeders normally show you the work they have done on the plants. They are transparent.1 point

Morning growmies. So 133 days from seed and week 10 ish of flower the girls got chopped. Not feeding is evident in the size of the buds but I am happy with my results. Nr 3 definitely had the best buds of the three. Size of the pot good watering regime the correct light and good airflow is some of the lessons I learned from this grow off.. Sulpher and serenade is boss and a must for all indoor growers. This then the last post on this thread.. Manny thanx to all the experienced growers for guidance, @420SA for the opportunity and @Totemic for the beans.. I opted for a semmi wet trim due to my WPM issue. Must say that the Seranade mostly saved the day. Thank you @Prom.. Your a legend. Good luck to all the participants.. This was eppic and looking forward to the next one..1 point

Just anther update, the k-2 & Zkittlez are growing fairly fast soz had to do some training on them, I must also add that supplementing silica has done wonders for training the plants, stems seem "rubber" like making it easier to push them at extreme angles without worrying to much about snapping. Will recommend anyone to try silica if you haven yet Applied some neem oil after the super cropping for the bugs and back in the tent they go for a week's recovery1 point

The Lemon OG Haze No1 died after the second training snips, no clue why, roots and all looked rather developed Rest is fine and most are on 8 mains so far, rest follows tomorrow. Thursday the first should go 16, then I start sorting and pot up to a 10L pot and install a screen for each. Not going 22L this time, check the outcome in pots I use for Autos usually. Cones from Plant 5 and 6 already rooted very strong... i always have some nice and fast rooters.. and the rest just needs those 2 weeks. No idea why.. and I seem not to be able to figure out what i do right and wrong. Perhaps genetic.. will check that on a second batch of clones I take from the clones. If 5 and 6 root again super fast, that could solve my puzzle.1 point

So I received some beautiful clones a while back from @The_StonedTrooper and have been nurturing them into submission ever since . At the time I was in between tents I had to make a makeshift plan but, alas, they ended up starting to bloom on me so it has been a bit of a revegging session as well. But they're all trained, trimmed and ready to rock and roll now . Keen to test out my new BudBox so they will be the first ladies in that new flower tent. I'll give them a week or 2 to recover from the trimming and to administer some IPM before heading into flower. It'll also give me some time to se the new tent up after the comp tent is free to move that out of the way, I have a hydro setup in there so it's not practical to move around. Okay here goes... Strains: Dirty Banana Crescendo Gorilla Glue t Next I potted them in 20L fabric pots with Freedom Farms Premium Classic soil and added some Mycoroot to the holes: Cleaned them up and did some LST: Vegged/Revegged them for a while until they were healthy: Did a big defoliation and adjusted the LST a bit: Now we wait for recovery and for me to finish my new setup...1 point

Day 114 and day 30 of 12/12. As the competition draws to an end here I am. Some are getting ready to harvest while others are gonna push a bit longer then there is one or two of us that fucked up along the way. But finish we will. Just by looking at the killer plants that have been grown the I think the judges have their work cut out for them. Pics are in groups of four #1-#3. Finally figured out the blue bags are drying twice as fast as the brown bag. Gave them all a proper soaking today. For what it's worth I'll be putting T3 forward on judgment day. Bonus is I get to have a sneak peek to what my plants should look like in 40 days time.1 point

Sir, I can neither confirm nor deny the possibility that you are in-fact tripping balls (may the odds forever be in your favour)... but yes that is indeed ducting coming through the light/between the lights intake fan sending fresh air onto the plants. Small oscillating fan bottom right out of frame to circulate air back up to the extraction fan at the top left. Hmm... very good point... so you say an even bigger pot??? I will have to search far and wide... and also apply for a small bond to finance the soil1 point
