Hi folks, So it's been a while since I last posted about my grow but I thought better late than never (and also skipping most of the veg part is more entertaining) This is my 3rd indoor grow and I have learnt a lot from my last 2 grows from fellow forum members. Special shout out to @The Grass Baas @The_StonedTrooper @PsyCLown @Prom @Bay Seeds @Stinger96 @GGG @GreenGrow Garden Route @Weskush for all their guidance and support with the previous grow. I have learnt a lot from you guys and will attempt to apply it with this grow. What went wrong previously? I neglected my plants and encountered the following: - Too much N (nute frequency overall) - Not enough airflow - Not enough defoliation - And a one shoe fits all approach (which doesn't work well with several different strains) What am I doing differently this time round? - Every watering doesn't need to be a feed (let the plant tell you when they need something) - Each strain will have their own frequency of feeding and quantity thereof - Airflow/Circulation is key - Defoliate, defoliate, defoliate... we don't need no nodes stealing energy from the nodes that we want to create into big fat ass nugs - And some IPM for the issues that might catch you off guard So what am I working with for this grow? I decided on a mix of old school variants with some local and international breeders filling the gap. I am running 4 strains of feminised seeds from Old School Genetics courtesy of @Golden-Goose , 2 strains from Motherland Genetics (hope the drama on the photos wasn't an indication of the quality of genetics that they supposedly produce) and lastly some 2 super tasty InHouse strains courtesy of some cuttings from my man @PsyCLown. IPM measures with wood cider vinegar courtesy of @Thrive Strains in play: Old school genetics - White Bubblegum Old school genetics - White Afghan Skunk Old school genetics - Super Silver Haze 98 Old school genetics - OSG Cheese Motherland genetics - Purple Dosidos Motherland genetics - Sunset Sherbet S1 InHouse - Blunicorn InHouse - Jelly Breath Started of with germination on the 28th of September with a 100% germination success rate. I normally go for the 3 topping 8 cola mainline but this time round I decided to do a 2 top manifold mainline which some people call a flux mainline. (Hoping to decrease veg time) I also installed a oscillating fan from the roof of the tent to aid in circulation. Today was the last clean up in the veg cycle and I took clones of each for a buddy to keep for us to see which one we want to keep and work with... I am about 2 weeks from flip to flower and this is the current situation... Here we go with some pictures to tie it up... Seedlings Clones joining the picture Pre clean up White Bubblegum White Afghan Skunk Purple Dosidos Jelly Breath (no before pic taken) Blunicorn Sunset Sherbet Super Silver Haze 98 OSG Cheese Attempt at a level canopy Clones New fan IPM Wood cider vinegar Thank you for reading. I am very excited to see where this grow goes2 points

Thought some of you guys might be interested, Strain Hunters is launching a new movie in the next couple weeks. Here are the teasers, and its very close to home. Exciting times.2 points

Some have been topped and some have not. That's about it. Most of those plants are about 1.5m tall if I remember correctly. I don't want excessive training on the test plants. I want to be able to see them as close to el naturale as possible.2 points

So @CreX did a grow using the gas lantern lighting schedule with great success, perhaps he can share more info here. What else works is to set ones timer to be always on and let Eskom dictate the dark periods for your plants. When load shedding is suspended, change the timer onto an 18 / 6 cycle - that is what I do.2 points

Hopefully by the end of next month all the plants will fully show sex (I've got a few already showing extremly early signs) and I can pull the males and get to transplanting2 points

For interest sake, has any training been done on these plants or they just been left to form a christmas tree?1 point

indeed i have old chap!! it was out of necessity that i tried it - i have known about the technique for long but never needed to use it. my Dad has a small grow as well, but the timer he has for his tent is an analogue timer which loses its time if it loses its power. so what i did was set the timer on to 2 hours off, 4 hours on - and then repeat that 4 more times to fill up the 24 hour schedule. the main thing with vegging, is your plants must not get more that 8 hours of continuous darkness, or it will trigger flowering responses. with this method, even if it is a 4 hour loadshedding, it would not leave you hanging for longer than 8 hours ever . not only does this keep your veggies lekker in loadshedding, it also keeps the pennies in your pocket as the light is only on for 16 hours in a 24 hour period, while fulfulling proper veg growth.1 point

Thanks man apologize if I can't reply to all the posts but I read them all... I understand stand what you saying about the autos being the future as I lve seen and heard of many top level growers focusing only on autos as it grows good weed fast and that's what I wanted but if it's easier to grow photos then I think next grow il be going that way as I understand photos can handle stress a little more which should be a little easier to grow.. More forgiving if i don't get all the steps correct..1 point

woah! I was just about to say that the little bit at the top might not be enough to fill a 30L pot/bag, this is why I was thinking the size of the soil bags sold might have to increase, but you're saying it can fill even more than that without making the bag any bigger? well.... uuh now see ..... now I would like to change my answer. I would like to get a full 30L bag for same price1 point

Whats up broThanks for all the info man will definitely do more research... It has helped me alot so far, even all the information provided by all the growers.. Much appreciated The main reason I started with autos was because loadshedding:( thought it would be the best way to grow weed without having to stress too much about the light going on and off of schedule(no generator yet)... There is so much to learn1 point

Also very hard to check by filling a 30L empty bag, as I did this and came out with enough soil to fill up an actual liquid volume 45L tote to almost full, so you can squeeze way more than what is in there already from factory.1 point

I had a Ram 6inch for my 1.2mx1.2m I just found it very noisy. Switched to AC infinity S6 with Controller 67,best investment I've made, very quiet on low settings and can monitor conditions on a graph.1 point

This is slightly true, but also not, as you know when you water it compacts it too. Unfortunately that has been compressed, and is a different matter all together, Most soils, when wet, will pull / pool together and look less, as there is less air in there now, my understanding.1 point

I would use a RAM 6' for a 1.2x1.2 and an appropriate 6' filter if required.1 point

I guess as a soil absorbs water, it expands in size and therefore in liters. Like coco, you can purchase a 5KG brick and it is small in size but then expands to 50L+ when added to water. I think it is fine to keep the size the same but reduce the price. People are use to 30L bags for soil. Coco typically comes in different sizes, typically 45L to 60L so no standard there really. Makes sense to state that the bag is x L when at a specific moisture percentage though. Also how compact the soil is plays a role too, I always fill up my pots, shake them and bang them on the floor and then top them up again.1 point

Your medium is the foundation of your grow. Start with kak, and it will end with kak. I use Freedom Farms Formula One. I've also used their Classic before, but switched because I prefer using salts. The guys at FF put a lot of pride into their work and it shows. Rather pay that little bit extra.1 point

Missed the Auto part [emoji23] makes a lot of sense now! Ja nee. Agree, could be many many things, from Soil through to seeds and everything in between. I was personally super unimpressed with the Autos I have grown out, some of them stayed tiny tiny. I knocked one pot over while they were babies, the bloody thing sommer stunted, stopped growing, and flowered at around 10cms high with less than 12 leaves. [emoji1787][emoji1787] They can be very finicky. As Crex said, chalk this one up to experience and hope for better next round [emoji106] A good place to start would probably be some proper purpose made cannabis soil. Also a PH/EC pen if you dont have one (cant believe I'm writing this because I still dont have one yet -pricy!) This will help a lot seeing as you already have some very cool toys already [emoji106] Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk1 point

He’s running auto’s…. Are they really that affected by light cycle? I’m mean I see they are flowering… early…. I worry about that builders soil, and notice humidity at 10% (?!) on the hygrometer. My guess is stressed plants due to improper EC / PH, possible over watering or / and over feeding at seedling stage. Possibly that 450w light was too bright early on? So many variables, but this is how we learn. Myself I dig the tech side of growing but I’m still learning the plant man. It’s that green thumb which some people just have and others like myself have to learn. Honestly 2 years ago I couldn’t even grow mould on old bread without killing it. Good luck!1 point

Maybe some more recent pics might help? Bit of variation in heights and sizes is not unusual at all though. Each seed is an individual, with it's own character, same as people. Even brothers/sisters can be shorter/taller. Probably nothing to worry about. If it bugs you lots, maybe try some clones next time. Would give more uniform growth. Not sure how good Builders soil is for growing ganga in though [emoji847] Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk1 point

Assuming that you are based in SA. Outdoor veg time starts now until about January. From then on the plants will start flowering due to deacreasing daylight hours. Harvest window is from March until May ideally. If you want your plants to flower now, you have to introduce less daylight hours, say 12hours or less. Hope that helps1 point

Almost there. Didn’t finish the way I wanted. That pot is tough to grow in Mostly milky trichomes. Any day now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point
