Sorry for the recent bursts of totally random but very baitworthy threads being thrown out by certain "seed companies"... There is one guy, or bot, that is signing up under a multitude of different seedbank names and trying to get traction by using commonly searched keywords in his topic titles. He's proving to be quite persistent as he continues to sign up under more accounts. Unfortunately we cannot ban his IP as his IP is continually changing as well. Please bare with us as we try to handle him. He should give up eventually. If you spot any suspicious baiting topics please report the topic immediately8 points

I've been trying to encourage that, but if by next year someone hasn't stepped up I'll sponsor seeds again7 points

The forum does have a donate button on the home page, and has the store. Regarding the membership fee idk about if any threads or even the clubs should fall behind a paywall, people like using the forum (any social platform actually) because it's free with access to tons of information and advice.4 points

the only thing that will trigger flowering response is an extended dark cycle of 8 hours and longer - Veg plants can take a beating with light cycles4 points

I get you. I just feel that what this forum offers is worth much more than just a free thread. This is weed school man. Look at what guys like Cheeba etc charge for their courses. We get it for mahala.3 points

Adding to that. I am more than willing to contribute to a membership fee or donation to support this forum. Don't know how the other members feel about this. Scamsters will hopefully look elsewhere if it ain't free.3 points

I was just going to say, you may as well try coco then which is inert and will give you full control over the nutes you're feeding to the plants and coco can be cheaper than "cannabis soil". Purchase some 5KG bricks, expand, buffer and use. With coco you need to be on point with your PH though as there isn't anything in the coco to help bufer the PH, I would recommend a high quality PH pen.3 points

We have done one, and while it is awesome to see plants grow into trees, it is a long season and outdoors is generally unforgiving. Makes it difficult to judge. If we do an outdoor I'd love to see what that Chocolope NL male of @CreX added to his aurora kush2 points

Some have been topped and some have not. That's about it. Most of those plants are about 1.5m tall if I remember correctly. I don't want excessive training on the test plants. I want to be able to see them as close to el naturale as possible.2 points

Thought some of you guys might be interested, Strain Hunters is launching a new movie in the next couple weeks. Here are the teasers, and its very close to home. Exciting times.1 point

Has any one ever had a snail problem when growing outdoors. I know egg shells will keep the away from the plant but I want to kill them. Any suggestions?1 point

Well it depends on how many contestants there are, and assume 5 or 6 seeds if they are regulars and 3 feminized seeds. 200-300 seeds would do it with current participation rates.1 point

how many seeds needed for a comp about? i have about a large amount of seeds of about 2 strains (regs) that would love to see get grown out! Its those seeds that came from the last comp where i grew, flowered, pollinated the room with the Chocolope and managed to collect quite a few seeds. if i remember correctly, there were the Grape diamonds and my Aurora kush that were pollinated - i have another strain that i might be able to suggest as well, but need to check some things first. if no breeder steps up to play a part - i will gladly donate those seeds1 point

The indoor grow off was super cool, it would honestly be great if more of the local breeders agreed to do stuff like this.1 point

I have pondered over the idea of a "Supporting Membership" with an annual fee but wouldn't want to keep any helpful info behind a paywall, but rather the membership would give access to exclusive giveaways and such from vendors etc. The community however is still too small and it wouldn't make viable sense for giveaway sponsors I don't think.1 point

It's only a fuckup if you tinkering with the soil constantly or it was formulated incorrectly to start, coco can go south extremely fast. I've grown in all mediums, if you have the patience to hydrate and buffer your own coco it's a no brainer. I've however gotten lazy in my old age and rather just buy FF soil now and run with it.1 point

indeed i have old chap!! it was out of necessity that i tried it - i have known about the technique for long but never needed to use it. my Dad has a small grow as well, but the timer he has for his tent is an analogue timer which loses its time if it loses its power. so what i did was set the timer on to 2 hours off, 4 hours on - and then repeat that 4 more times to fill up the 24 hour schedule. the main thing with vegging, is your plants must not get more that 8 hours of continuous darkness, or it will trigger flowering responses. with this method, even if it is a 4 hour loadshedding, it would not leave you hanging for longer than 8 hours ever . not only does this keep your veggies lekker in loadshedding, it also keeps the pennies in your pocket as the light is only on for 16 hours in a 24 hour period, while fulfulling proper veg growth.1 point

So @CreX did a grow using the gas lantern lighting schedule with great success, perhaps he can share more info here. What else works is to set ones timer to be always on and let Eskom dictate the dark periods for your plants. When load shedding is suspended, change the timer onto an 18 / 6 cycle - that is what I do.1 point

Thanks man apologize if I can't reply to all the posts but I read them all... I understand stand what you saying about the autos being the future as I lve seen and heard of many top level growers focusing only on autos as it grows good weed fast and that's what I wanted but if it's easier to grow photos then I think next grow il be going that way as I understand photos can handle stress a little more which should be a little easier to grow.. More forgiving if i don't get all the steps correct..1 point

I live near Kempton Park so the loadshedding schedule is also 2 hours a day 3 times a day similar to your area. I agrees the plants need 18hrs in veg however I thought it should be 18hrs continuous light and then 6 hrs darkness..Loadshedding can be anytime of the day I am sure you know how terrible it is esp being a grower so there is no way the plants can get the proper light at the moment without a generator.. Won't that affect the plants negatively? I mean maybe send the plants into flower early... Also, can I maybe leave the tent open on then days of loadshedding so there is some air flow to avoid the mildew build up or any other issues in that line? Thanks for your help again mate.. This information is very helpful and will use all of it to try grow some good weed..1 point

This my biggest expense now between grows is the medium I choose to buy. One thing to note in general though, if a bag says 30L it's probably closer to like 25L. So if you're looking to fill 4 x 15L pots you would realistically need 3 x 30L and not 2 bags. So I voted to get same amount in the bag for cheaper, because I also don't want to lug around anything bigger than the 30L bags anyways!1 point

I've been toying with the idea of buying a ''premium'' brand bag of soil, something light for a nice auto I want to grow. My first idea is wanting something like freedom farms classic, and then building up the nutrients with topdressing as I go along the way, I like this idea and it will be easy enough to have a nice vigorous plant without having the plant flower early with some caution. Then I realized their are many different quality autos and this specific one is the Pluto Cut from Ethos. They got these genetics quite right in that department, one breeder explained they were able to introduce hardier sativas less prone to these types of stresses, So I'm back in the I want more overall nutrients. I'm kinda undecided for now, but I am probably purchasing a bag of soil soon. Maybe the less is more approach is the Sexiest. @Prom Cheers boeti1 point

hmmmm I have to say, I don't fully agree with that... I feel the importance of good soil trumps the importance of a good light, and we all know how heavy a kak light can impact a grow. now just imagine kak soil... last thing I wana save a few bucks on is soil. I would gladly rather cough up an extra R30 - R50 for something that'll completely flip my growing experience for the better. there are a lot of examples on this forum alone. such as the "promix" from builders warehouse in a recent thread. there has also been documented "420mix" soil grow that had to be exchanged for freedom farms because in fact a good price does not mean it's a good product. high pricing also doesn't equate to quality in the least, I had the "pleasure" of trying out some Just Cannabis soil when it was all the hype. Paid R200 a bag and it claims you can finish a whole grow with just water... A week in the soil and all I saw was toast. pricing is not a good guidance when looking at quality. and that's what you want, quality. It's gona be hard for a new brand to take my support away from Freedom Farms, because I feel the 3 most important things when buying soil is quality, reputability and consistency. Something I've only gotten true to form from Freefom Farms. For me to stop supporting FF and move over to something new, the new brand will have to provide a better grow experience than in FF for atleast 3 to 5 grows in a row. then they got my support. they can be a bit more expensive than FF too I'll still buy it, because it's an improvement over the already exsisting product. if you could get FF to just make their bags either bigger or cheaper that'll work too1 point

Howzit bru. As much as i would like to support our fellow entrepreneurs, price will always be the deciding factor in determining which brand i would buy. Value for money is where it's at.1 point
