  1. Hi Family, I've been asked to be a product tester and grow ambassador, for a local grow shop Quick Buy n Grow. My first product to test is a seed from Pilchards and Caviar, Surf and Turf. Before I do anything, how do you all feel, if I post the grow here for information and interest sake? All post will be fair, unbiased, and my complete, unpaid opinion. Only the product is provided to me, to test. Thank you for your time all Trooper

  2. Had an itch to start documenting, sharing and learning again. So I'm dusting off the rust and getting back in the grow diary saddle. Haven't really done this kinda thing since the weed.co.za and BTL days. Expect blunt opinions, a bit of pollen chucking and lank dank:) Am running a small outdoor greenhouse. Shaded sides and greenhouse plastic top around slightly raised organic beds. All plants are started in Freedom Farms Classic. Sprouted in trays, transplanted to 1lt bags then to beds. I've always xmas treed outdoor plants but am trying SCROG for the first time. Hoping this will improve quality and consistency. Yield is not a top priority. Would rather have a 3 jars of gas than 1 of jar gas with 5 jars of popcorn. Clones were were vegged inside for a month+ and then put outside in mid December. Been stretching and are in early flower. First trichomes are around the corner. Clones are Terple, Frosted Apricots, Tart Pops, GG4. Seeds were planted in mid December. The goal if for them to push veg and flower a bit later than usual. Trying to avoid the late summer rains and bud rot. A pinch more colour from the lower Autumn temps wouldn't hurt. Seedlings are Banizzle, Blue Dreamsicle, Totomi, Purpsicle and Jungle Juice. First prize is a hip to chest height layer of buds. Maintaining tall plants and broken branches sucks. A lower canopy is gonna do wonders for my back and let me really savor watching the grass grow. Also doing a seed run. Not gonna claim to be a breeder or anything like that. Simply pollen chucking a dank stud on bunch of my favourite cuts. It's dope to have grown enough cultivars to know what I like and enjoy working with. Refining my preferred genetics and pheno hunting is a new adventure. More on that later. Here's a video of where things are at today. The little greenhouse of mostly In-House Genetics.

  3. Veg tent update. I've come to a realisation and have acted upon it. I don't believe I will get a chance to go back to certain strains that are in my stable for a long while and it is eating at my resources a bit to keep preserving them in the small space that I currently have. I am happy though with all the cloning I had to do in order to preserve the mothers so at least my cloning game got an upgrade...or so I thought. So we remain with; Zkittlez x Purple Punch - Ripper Seeds (ZxP) KmintZ - Ripper Seeds (KM) Gorilla Zkittlez - Barneys Farm (GZ) Wedding Cake - 1000 Hills Nursery (WC) The four KmintZ seedlings are doing really well, although I have noticed a small deficiency developing and gave them a healthy dose of nutrients. In general I try not to max out the nutes right away and try work my way up slowly so maybe I started a bit too light. The leaves are looking nice and chonky, fat indica vibes, but as you can see there is some hints of yellow developing on the edges and centre points of the leaves. I saw @CreX mention having similar issues with potassium deficiency and the leaves looking something like this, so I'm keeping that in mind. The coco is not reused. The ZxP clones are coming on nicely. Although they take much longer to root than I had initially planned for. These clones rooted only after like close to a month. Bananas. You can imagine what utter delight it was to finally see roots pop out. As far as I understand I do everything correctly; 45 degree cuts near or on the nodes, double dip (gel + powder), trim the leaves, soaked Jiffys in warm water, vents closed for first three days, vents open until roots appear, spray only leaves from top once a day, if Jiffys get too dry I dip the bottoms of the Jiffys in extremely weak pH'd nutrient feed. I mean they look pretty healthy for sitting in a propagator with no supposed roots for more than 3 weeks so I'm not sure what's not triggering the root growth sooner. My initial thoughts are maybe that the Jiffys are too wet in the beginning, so the clones are waterlogged. On the next run I am going to gently squeeze out a little of the water out the Jiffys before planting the clones. I'm also thinking I need to take some bigger clones.

  4. No need to censor anything, I wanted to give @rdc420 a chance to see where it went. You never know what you might learn. I think everyone's given their 2c's on the strain debate and the topic of semi-auto, so let's agree to disagree. At the end of the day it's a grow diary and we would really like to see your growing progress @rdc420 keep up the updates my dude.

  5. Chopped a few today. Running a bit low on smoke. Photos still in veg. Auto seedlings loving the full sun Veg. Bit overkill with the amount but at least half will be pulled and I really dont mind smaller plants. Salad jars.

  6. Great stuff. Lol and just today I read somewhere that Redro and Pecks Anchovette spread will be discontinued So let's replace it with Pilchards and Caviar Never heard of the breeders before. Are they local? Do we know the parent strains of Surf & Turf

  7. So after 87 days she came down. The one in the middle. Seeds are dropping like popcorn at the movies. F2 hunt shall begin soon. Right is a Pineapple Express auto from fastbuds that took 8 weeks to flower. Nagar to get a handful of seeds from the first calyxes on the main stem. Left is another PE at 4 weeks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. @rdc420 don't delete the thread man, we're all excited to see how this goes as you can see how much attention you already got here! a bunch of us are very interested in this like Evan said, at the end of the day it's a grow dairy and no matter what we call the plant or what people want others to be calling the plant, I am still excited to see what you do with them!!

  11. Apologies if i came across as a doos but seriously. This semi auto thing is getting to me. There is no such thing as also mentioned by some of our more experienced growers on this forum. I like your grow and will gladly follow along but please get over the semi auto part brother. @420SA pls clean up this thread to where the semi auto debacle took off. I would like to see this man's progression and also to keep positive vibes. If you don't mind. Thanks

  13. skip to 4:20 that's really just the biggest coincidence. this video is titled Hydro vs Bio debate, but they end up talking about what we're talking about. the two modern kings of cannabis chatting it up.. Arjans words, not mine, "Real Sativa, I am talking about 15/16 weeks. Not the ones you get in America"

  14. In their theory, I guess they thought, if you flip to flower, the plant stretches and the roots grow, so maybe they thought, it would make cloning easier with faster roots... Not sure, But please, Do Not Try it.

  15. Similar said about feeding the plant bloom the day before taking clones, it make sense to me. Dont do what I heard last month, and give them 24h dark after cutting, I heard this from a grower who was told to do this by a pro grower apparently

  16. Ratios are dependent on what I need more of, and observation from the plant... Or amending through a soil test.
    3 points
  17. i have found that this takes a bit of practice and trial and error. i reuse my coco in the totes, and i reammend with the talborne vita-flower and give a feed of a MKP additive because i noticed that my plants suffer potassuim deficiencies in early veg. maybe have a control pot with your reused soil and see where it lacks... then you can reammend it with the right stuff . ofcoarse this is a time consuming process

  18. here is why your plants are flowering a bit earlier. first you have to know that different strains of weed will flower even if the 12\12 light schedule is not observed. some strains can start flowering with 14-15 hours of light and less dark. typically, the rule is to induce flowering, you need a solid 8 hours of darkness to flower, which leaves as much as 16 hours of light for some strains in extreame cases!! now lets look at the sun guide for south africa, Sun guide , straight away you can see that november has enough darkness to induce flowering, with the best time to start flowering is in March. if you can erect an outdoor light, can be very low watts, then you can trick your plant to then its still full veg time and then when you take the light away in march, you will grow indoor quality outdoor... or what they are calling Greendoor of late. this should also clear up the misconception of a semi auto realizing the fact that some photo period plants can flower in seemingly veg conditions. there are 3 types of cannabis Photo periods - these require a change in the lighting conditions to start flowering - this is 100% controllable Autos - these will flower when they are ready and no amount of different light schedule changes will trigger a flowering response which is built in to the plants biological clock Ruderalis - this is the plant that is mixed into a photo period plant to make an auto, this plant does not produce significant yeild at all and its only value is to pass along the Auto gene to plants that actually do yeild well, there is no such thing as a semi auto, it either requires a change in ligh cycle to flower, or it does not. As for the sativa question... here in sunny south africa, we cant really complain about the weather we have outdoors, and in saying that, if you have a great season with plenty sunny days and minimum overcast or rainy days, the chances are very high that the outdoor plant will not only finish a week or so faster, but will also grow much larger buds than the indoor clone. the sun is so powerful and us indoor growers often take its raw power for granted.

  19. I have a question if you don't mind. If you had to reuse your soil would you reammend with the same amendments and ratios or different ones?

  20. I gotta say, I'm not even 100% sure what's happening here with early flowering photoperiods/autos due to environmental conditions vs genetics. My gut feeling it's a mixed answer where certain plants with certain genetic triggers are influenced by certain environmental factors. In a way you could call all photoperiods "semi-auto" using this reasoning. However maybe the Lebanese strain is simply very sensitive to environmental changes that genetically trigger its flowering period, more sensitive than the traditional photoperiod, and maybe this is because of the environment the strain has had to adapt to, which at first thought doesn't immediately spring to mind "ideal" conditions, "especially adapted for outdoor growing in hot and arid climates, showing excellent resistance against drought and high temperatures". I rate @Naughty.Psychonaut is correct in his assessments then, and I also appreciate the effort you went through to dig out grow diaries to help prove your arguments. Yes, maybe redundantly it all boils down to environmental conditions which trigger the plants to react, but they gotta have that genetic trait, which is what I think @rdc420 is saying. I also think @rdc420 is going on genuine information that they retrieved themselves and from others close to them so let's give them the benefit of the doubt, it's starting to become quite an interesting debate that I for one am actually interested to find the answer to. If we can keep it lekker and civil I think we could come up with something good here. Keep it up.

Russian fruit salad [emoji23] @Prom was right in that there’s not much pineapple smells yet. 28. Nice neat setup, lots of different things going on. Cool to see a video diary imma just watch and type comments as I go I'm keen to see how your Jungle Boys plants come along, especially that Blue Dreamsicle. Purpsicle neh? That sounds dangerous. Cool to see the Cannaclones coming along well. The clone industry is interesting to me. I wasn't aware GSR were also doing clones. I see you do a mix of synthetic and organic nutes, do you separate the two beds or just gooi alas? I'm keen to check up on the diary updates my man

  37. I have will have to give you some sort of idea of what application rates to use when applying, but its really a "it depends'' type of answer. All plants are different and pull differently, So when talking soil-less mix which is just a normal potting soil, the re-creation of real soil I guess. Then things go pear shaped very very fast. They loose their structure fast, its hard to maintain good biology, watering has to be on point for small pots. But if you tick all boxes and the plant has somewhat exhausted all the nutrients in the soil. I will put half of the amount above back in the soil and thoroughly mix in. Id probably leave out the rock dust on consecutive re-amends The smaller the pots, the less room for error in-terms of soil chemistry.

  39. Yea looks good to me, similar to my own just differs on ratios and one or 2 ingredients, I think that will get you through veg and maybe until early flower, I do believe you will have to top dress again tho, hard to tell without "reading" the plants, but will be a good read to find out. Keep us updated

  41. Good day and a well day to all you garden people of SA. I wanted some variety to smoke and I thought it would be good to see how the soil works with different genetics, so I’ve decided to grow these plants in the soil mixed and partially assimilated above, now the new homes of GG #4 Sherbet crasher Animal cookies Quattro kush and one Jelly bean outside to flower i must make a note and inform all that of the 60l of soil above, +- 30 have been added so a third of used soil from the dqxslurri, The soil might need some help towards the end but in all likely hood not as the worn out soil was pretty much on balance with a lack of calcium. This was solely because I wanted a new home for all genetics, and with the short veg time the plants will do well in something less nutrient dense, however, plants would do fine in 100% concentration, but then the ideal situation would require a longer veg, which won’t be the case as we will be flipping in 2 weeks or so I let this soil sit for 2 1/2 weeks in total. the plants were needing the repot.

  45. The semi-auto trait is also found in Moroccan Beldia Kif, which is another landrace plant. Here's a description of this trait [1] : If you are looking for a long-flowering pure sativa, you can try the Oldtimer's Haze from ACE seeds [2][3]. It has a flowering time of 14-20 weeks! ACE also has many Real Sativa varieties with somewhat shorter flowering times.
