The bud structure is very loose and I'm seeing plenty of foxtails developing. This is good for making hash since a large surface area makes it a little easier to extract the trichomes. The leaf claw symptoms are still visible on about 10% of the leaves on the wider-leaf pheno.8 points

Thought Id share how I plan to keep genetics around much longer, She's been up for a 3 weeks now. This is just because I thought there are a few factors that would make this viable, a decent space which is this secret Jardin 80 x 60 x 80, Which I've been having a lot of fun with, doesn't take up massive space but is still a decent size. Some airflow, ok now bathrooms fans work. Then the interesting part the lighting, I wanted to make sure there was some what enough power. SO I initially thought, hmmmm how to do this without the heat. Good old trusty T8s (have done me well in the past), I'm yet to see what these specific OSRAM tubes do, I used to use the china ones, so i'm sure these will graft better. Might even pop some seeds in the new space. All said and done, the light was about 300 bucks minus the sonoff switch. Have a lekke dag mense!7 points

What's good almal I got a little gift from Haifa today some of you might have heard of people growing or trying to grow plants on the international space station. next month Haifa will be sending some of their synthetic nutes as part of a trial to grow some chickpeas in space !!! I am not directly linked to them, they did a little promo to celebrate this big milestone for their company, one of the gifts ended up in my hands and I like it a lot I have no idea what or why the little figurine, but it suits me well heres the website the barcode takes you to https://www.haifa-group.com/haifa-in-space5 points

Bro!!! This plant has to refund my nutrients. [emoji23][emoji23] I feel like stabbing this plant for wasting my time. It’s my first grow ever. I’ll take it as progress, as I will never make the same mistakes again, that could have stimulated this. I just feel disappointed. Jeez!!! At the same time, I’m glad I showed it to the community because I would have left that gay guy there, not knowing he is busy giving the rest plants doggy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

Not much to report. Plants are growing well. Inhouse had some crazzzzzy initial stretch in the greenhouse, but seems to have settled. Could swear they tripled in height from when the clones were put outside a month ago. Jungle Boy's crosses are loving life. The Creamsicle x Hulkberry is putting on some heavy indica vibes in veg. With absurdly fat leaves. Bugs love them way more then any other plant in the greenhouse though. Brewing up some FFJ. Banana, sugar and some molasses. Have ordered predator mites. Greenhouse Foliar Fed: Keplak at 10ml/L as the sun set. Plants appeared greener the next day, but could just be in my head. Soil fed: Flowering- Terra Aquatica Pro Organic Bloom at 1ml/L and Gro at 0.2ml/L. Pinch of cal mag. Veg - Terra Aquatica Pro Organic Gro at 1ml/L. Pinch of cal mag. General: Diluted worm tea and FFJ in between. Observations: Harvested rain water has a PH of 4. Will need to bump it up when mixing. Sticking to borehole for now. Good PH. Weather has been overcast and a bit humid for a month. Plastic roof for the win. SCROG has been very efficient and simple. But could do half the plants and get the same canopy next time. Defoliation is key. Last of the males showing nuts. The yellow sticky strips are not gecko friendly:( Tent Foliar Fed: Keplak at 10ml/L 30 minutes before lights on. Turned off the fans while spraying and then back on when done. Fed: Just water. Observations: The plants were in 1 lt pots for too long and and got too close to the grow light in veg. Would have been better to repot them at about 50cm tall. Taken a week or so for them to bounce back and get growing again. Next run in the tent will only be my seeds. Pollen chucked a male from Masonic to the In-House and Jungle Boys crosses. Really enjoy the experience of F1 plants. They just seem so vigorous. Diversity is also cool. The Blue Dreamsicle that I ran was admittedly a bit tall, but finished way sooner that any of the other seeded mothers. Also yielded double the seeds. Very tempted to back cross it. Nice, I haven't tried any of their stuff for cannabis growing myself either. One of the farms I worked on before uses their stuff to grow commercial fynbos for export to Holland did business with them for a while so made a couple friends. good people3 points

There are better ways to trigger an immune response and I feel you'd want that immune response earlier in flower... Perhaps even in veg. More research likely needs to be done on this for cannabis for us to really know though. Plants certainly start drinking less as they are reaching their end of life. Nutes can also build up in your medium over time, especially if one does not reduce / taper the nute strength towards the end of flower and this can lead to plants being burnt a bit.3 points

Dear Psyclown, Thankyou so much!. 10 out of 10 for that answer!. I feel fully clued up know. Trouble is.......I do get a bit carried away at times. I lived in Spain for a few years and had absolutely no electricity up in the hills. My solar system worked like a dream. I only grew outside, so didn't need too much power. However, the system handled a pool pump for 7 hrs every day , the household water had pumps also. That was 5 years ago. Wow .......solar has moved on from then!. Anyhow, turns out I'll need a lot more power than my old 6 panel system! (Photo). At least now I know what I'm dealing with and what I need to make things work. I'm going ahead with my intended system in the knowledge that I can add extra panels and battery later. I've come to peace with the fact that it will cost me a lot more than I had previously thought!. Just have to wait to get the funds together that's all. Patience is the key. One other thought; What if I scaled it right down to single tent with one plant?. One reasonable plant?. But then I suppose you still have to have the same gear, fans etc. Ah well, my dream of giving Eskom the finger alludes me for now. Thanks again for your valuable insight. Have a lekker weekend. PS, Photos will be sent separately as they are on my pc.2 points

All these babies are autoflowers, will start pulling and culling them in a while. Honestly not growing photoperiods outdoors again any time soon. I planted these Strawberry Vostoks autos in the picure below just as close together as the new ones. Harvested most of the autos in this section. Looking bare photoperiod section doing ok. Those baby autos upstairs will finish before this section. thats why Im not going to grow photos outside again. 3 seasons instead of 12 points

Great debate guys, some interesting takes on the subject. I grow Auto’s in Autopots. All the plants (between 2 and 9 depending) get the same feed because of the common reservoir. This can be tricky when I have a mixture of Auto’s which I usually do (3 of the same seeds 3 times = 9 per grow). A harvest for me takes over a week. I have limited time with my grow so can’t get it done faster. So I have to keep feeding because it might be 8 or 9 days from first to last. Not as bad as it sounds since some mature faster, they come down first. I sometimes do partial harvests meaning I remove all the top bud and will leave the smaller, larf / popcorn for another week to get good light. Anyway to cut to the chase, it’s out of necessity rather than preference that I no longer attempt a final flush (I mean an only-water for 1 or 2 weeks flush). Instead I feed with TA Final Part, which is a ripening agent devoid of any Nitrogen. There is mention above that the plant suddenly start drinking less, much less, towards the end. This is very obvious in the Autopot res which isn’t drain to waste, so the plants only pull what they need. And since they are consuming much less, they naturally “starve” themselves as I assume they do in nature. It follows on then that even if I have a high concentration of nutes (5ml per litre), the fact that LESS of it is going into the plant must equate to a lowering of Nute strength over time. This then might suggest that perhaps those who hand water might inadvertently be over feeding plants in their later stage of life. Anyway, I have discovered that the whole smooth vs harsh thing boils down to your drying process, and the taste boils down to your curing process. I got paranoid I was over drying and cut it a bit short. Some of that bud was harsh. The (almost over dried) bud from the next harvest was silky smooth, burned white ash in spite of having no flush, no period of darkness. They did however have lower temps towards the end. There is a school of thought now that flushing may improve taste, not because of leaching out excess nutes, but because of the shock presented to the plant which can trigger more terpene production….2 points

Just bent the tent. Up potted and defoliated first. Gonna veg for a couple weeks, clone and flip to flower. Bought my Mammoth tent 2nd hand and noticed the rust on bottom polls. Gave them a thorough clean 6 months ago, but reckon it's time to replace after this grow. May take a shot at another cleaning but reseal it as well. Cultivars are not in order: Frosted Apricots - In House Genetics Terple - In-House Genetics Tart Pops - In House Genetics GG4 - GG Strains Running a 240w Quantum board from Light It Up for veg and Fluence Vypr for flower. Freedom Farms Classic, Terra Aquatica Pro Organic, Cal Mag, and occasional worm tea or FFJ. Trying floraflex spreader things for the first time. Optimistic. Slows down the waterings/run-off and should help mulch the top too. Predator mites arrive in a couple weeks. Get a feeling that the In-House isn't going to yield much. Growing Bannizle and Blue Dreamsicle next.2 points

Had an itch to start documenting, sharing and learning again. So I'm dusting off the rust and getting back in the grow diary saddle. Haven't really done this kinda thing since the weed.co.za and BTL days. Expect blunt opinions, a bit of pollen chucking and lank dank:) Am running a small outdoor greenhouse. Shaded sides and greenhouse plastic top around slightly raised organic beds. All plants are started in Freedom Farms Classic. Sprouted in trays, transplanted to 1lt bags then to beds. I've always xmas treed outdoor plants but am trying SCROG for the first time. Hoping this will improve quality and consistency. Yield is not a top priority. Would rather have a 3 jars of gas than 1 of jar gas with 5 jars of popcorn. Clones were were vegged inside for a month+ and then put outside in mid December. Been stretching and are in early flower. First trichomes are around the corner. Clones are Terple, Frosted Apricots, Tart Pops, GG4. Seeds were planted in mid December. The goal if for them to push veg and flower a bit later than usual. Trying to avoid the late summer rains and bud rot. A pinch more colour from the lower Autumn temps wouldn't hurt. Seedlings are Banizzle, Blue Dreamsicle, Totomi, Purpsicle and Jungle Juice. First prize is a hip to chest height layer of buds. Maintaining tall plants and broken branches sucks. A lower canopy is gonna do wonders for my back and let me really savor watching the grass grow. Also doing a seed run. Not gonna claim to be a breeder or anything like that. Simply pollen chucking a dank stud on bunch of my favourite cuts. It's dope to have grown enough cultivars to know what I like and enjoy working with. Refining my preferred genetics and pheno hunting is a new adventure. More on that later. Here's a video of where things are at today. The little greenhouse of mostly In-House Genetics.1 point

Greetings, At some point I will try growing indoors but first will install solar to the house. I am well-known for doing things ass about face sometimes and have just purchased a Solar system. 5kw Inverter, 2.2kw Panel Capacity and 5kwh Lithium Battery. I hope to run a grow inside a 2.4mtrx1.2mtr tent. Do you think I will have enough power to run LED lights, extractor fan etc for probably 10 hrs at least? If your doing an 18hr on and 6 off grow and getting approx +/- 9 hrs sunlight (Winter grow) , that means I will need to run lights etc for at least 11hrs. Will the 5k lithium battery handle this?. Cheers....1 point

Update on the deficiency on the Gorilla Zkittlez. Three of them have bounced back well, two are still in the swing of bouncing back and one seems to be struggling just a bit, but yellowing has stopped progressing. I have given the three plants that are lagging another round of top feed. I think this will get the job done on the two, and I will just need to keep an eye on the one straggler.1 point

Well, I was never directly linked to them. The people on the farm probably still deal with them, but with me leaving the farm about 2 years ago I have lost touch with the rest of the team, just stayed friends with a guy that works there and don't really use big amounts of synthetic fertilizers so don't really go to them if I wanted stuff these days. Long before all that I did 3 coco grows with synthetic nutes, one half decent one, but then did a run in FF green bag with synthetic nutes and I had pretty good results, but then got that "no synthetics in living soil" lecture so stopped using synthetic stuff. all organic these days1 point

Shot bud, I really hope the S1 works with the freakshows, the pollen sacks are starting to form and Im just hoping they actually make pollen. After this cycle im just going to buy a few packs of old school cheese from fastbuds and try to reverse them. No more random auto crosses but just copying things that already work well. Ive got a sealed pack of The Gozer OG from Solfire Gardens that im no longer going to breed with because its photoperiod if thats something you want to breed with. If you ever do feminized autos in the future you can sort me out with seeds.?1 point

Thanks guys! Yip that's the 115l smart pot from Hydrobiz. The material it's made from feels quite flimsy and it doesn't have any handles. Let's hope I can get a couple more grows out of them. Next time I will look for something more robust.1 point

A bit of a TLDR, so did not read every post but will try answer all questions. I have looked into a solar setup myself and have had friends who have gone ahead with solar setups - if you use a lot of power it makes sense to go this route. Firstly, 5KW inverter with 2.2KW of panels is silly, you generally want to try and aim for more panels than the inverter is rated for as the panels efficiency will decrease with time and are the limiting factor as to how much power you can pull from the sun. The weather varies, some days there will be more cloud coverage and power production starts when the sun rises but you won't be generating max power early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the sun starts to set - this is where the additional panels will start to shine and help you maximize how much power you are able to produce throughout the light cycle of the day - as you seem to be aware, winter things change as well and there are less hours of light. So without a doubt, look at adding more panels. Especially if you want to run the whole house and subsidise the grow when the sun is shining. Also make sure that 5KW is sufficient for your house, draw too much and the inverter will trip - your whole house is then without power until you turn it on again. Geyser, kettle, stove, grow lights, fans, aircon, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer TV etc. etc. It can all add up quickly You may need to change your habits in terms of how you use electricity and what appliances you have on at the same time in order to make the 5KW inverter work. This is something only you'd be able to work out as you know what appliances you use and when you use them. Now onto the question of your grow equipment and the draw and the battery. Let's start with the grow equipment, for a 1.2m x 2.4m tent you'd like to aim for 4x 240W Quantum Boards which comes to just under 1KW of power (let's round up to 1KW take the efficiency of the driver into account). You will need to have fans to circulate the air, as well as for extraction and possibly intake as well. 100W to 200W is a reasonable estimation, we'll go with 200W to be on the safe side. Now depending on your grow, there may be additional equipment such as water pumps for automatic watering (often not a high amount of power), aircon, dehumidifier - these need to be taken into account if you are running them. However we can consider a base load of 1.2KW when your tent is running at full power with all fans. So that means 1.2KW (1200W) which is being drawn by your tent per hour. 1.2KWH in other words or 1.2 units per hour. During veg you can dim the lights down to around 400w in the tent and should be fine, in flower you will be pushing the full 1KW of power to the lights if you have the tent full of plants. So for veg, 600W per hour with fans. For flower, 1200W per hour with fans. When lights are off, 200W per hour for just the fans. Lithium battery is 100% the way you want to go, they generally come with a 10 year+ warranty and are able to be discharged more than your typical gel / deep cycle batteries. What is meant by discharge (also known as depth of discharge), well, the 5KW battery is basically a 105ah battery at 48v (105ah x 48v = 5040W (5KW) ). We can use the 5000W figure here to explain DoD (Depth of Discharge): A 10% DoD means the battery has been drained by 10%. So 5000 - 10% = 4500W of charge remaining in the battery. 50% DoD = 2500W remaining in the battery. 80% DoD = 1000W of power remaining in the battery. Your typical AGM / deep cycle batteries can be discharged to around 50% at most and even then they have far fewer cycles which they can handle (a decent deep cycle AGM type battery can handle around 600 cycles). A Lithium battery can be discharged past 50% safely, unlike your AGM / gel / deep cycle type of batteries which can take serious, permanent damage if discharged past 50%. Most Lithium batteries for solar use are able to be safely discharged to anywhere from 85% to 100% - keeping in mind that the further you discharge it, the fewer cycles you will get. As an example, a Lithium battery may be good for 6000 cycles at 80% DoD but only 3500 cycles at 100% DoD. These are rather accurate figures for Lithium batteries as well, I think Hubble and/or Pylontech batteries offer figures similar to the above. As you can see, 6000 cycles is 10 times more usage out of the Lithium battery compared to an AGM style battery with 600 cycles. Also you are able to get 80% discharge out of the Lithium battery (4000W) compared to 50% discharge out of the AGM battery (2500W). Another figure to briefly touch on is the constant discharge rate, not all batteries are able to safely provide the required current for an extended period of time. So you may require multiple AGM batteries in order to safely allow the 5KW inverter to draw 5KW of power from the batteries. You get Lithium batteries where a single battery is able to provide sufficient power to max out a 5KW inverter - one thing to keep in mind when looking at buying batteries for your inverter (or a single battery). So now to the final part of your question, how long will the battery be able to run your grow setup for. Well, I have done the basic maths already so we know that with lights during veg you are drawing 600W of power roughly (per hour) and the battery has a total capacity of 5000W (let's say you want to only discharge to 80% to help prolong battery life, or to keep some power spare incase of load shedding / emergencies). That leaves us with 4000W of power to draw from the battery. 4000W / 600W = 6.66 hours (Around 6 hours and 38 minutes I think) In flower, a very different story. Literally half as the draw is 1200W. 4000W / 1200W = 3.33 hours (Around 3 hours and 23 minutes I think) The above calculations do not take into account whatever else is running and drawing power in the house. If your geyser turns on and it is a 3KW geyser, that is 3000W it can use within an hour and will almost drain the battery quickly, almost to the full 80% DoD within an hour. Fridges & freezers cycles on and off multiple times throughout the day, there will often be basics running such as the fridge / freezer, some lights, router for internet etc. These are often small amounts of power being drawn but it is still there and needs to be taken into consideration. The biggest benefit with solar is being able to run off the panels during the day when the sun is shining and this is where the biggest cost savings will come in. The battery is nice to have, but running a grow off batteries for an extended period of time is stupidly expensive for initial costs (around R25k for a 100ah Lithium battery). When the sun goes down, it makes more sense to switch over to Eskom's grid and keep the battery for load shedding or emergency use and during the day when there is a bit of cloud coverage. If you need to be off grid, the cheaper way would be to have a generator tied to the inverter as opposed to buying multiple batteries. However when it comes to running costs - over a long enough period of time the generator may work out more expensive and it has it's drawbacks too - requires fuel, isn't good for the environment with the emissions, require services & maintenance and it is noisy. However the initial cost of a generator is far cheaper than multiple batteries.1 point

Are feminised seeds not different from regular? Because all I have in my grow space are auto-flowers and feminised photos... I can’t wait to perfect the art of growing for real. I’m sick of learning from expensive mistakes. I was told to plant in small cups before transplanting. I went to the shops bought small plastic cups and planted. Then boom [emoji95] someone here has just told me, planting in clear cups will disturb the roots. And autos needs to be planted in final pots. Can I ever get stuff right???? @Furbrain Depending if its a 12v or 24v setup. Battery capacities are a bit of an enigma, but usually you can only use 50% of your battery capacity. Obviously different types have slightly different specs. You can discharge your batteries to a lower state of charge eg:30% but you can also easily damage them. This is a rough calculation, so feel free to add your 2c. 1.Add up all your power consumers watts W. 2.Devide the total watts by the voltage of your battery. 3.That gives you the Amp draw on the system per hour. W÷Volt= Amps 4. Devide 50% of your batteries' rated Ah by the Amps and the answer will tell you how long your system will run. (General rule of thumb, only discharge battery to 50% for safety) 200ah 12v battery with a 516watt setup. 516w/12v=43amp/hr 200ah/2=100amp/hr (use 50% for safety) You have 100amp/hr capacity divided by a draw of 43amp/hr from the equipment. 100/43= 2.3hrs that the setup can run.1 point

I have 2 x 200Ah deep cycle gel batteries on a 5kVa inverter (No solar panels yet). It just to keep running during load shedding or any other time a poorly maintained transformer blows up in my area. I have a 240w LED, a Dehumidifier and fans / extraction on the inverter. This will run for close to 5hrs tho Lithium would run longer since I understand they can go to a lower voltage without damage. Then I have a generator to charge the inverter if it comes to that. Sustained high humidity is the killer if you are in a humid area so I focus on air movement and dehumidification. I run autos so the light is less critical. My “emergency light” also forms part of my normal lights, so it runs on its own timer and comes on and off like the rest of them under normal circumstances.1 point

Hey bud, sjew fok I can't see any pistils there, but the photo might just not show it. Look at the phots I posted here you gotta get into those nodes man nice and close up. then I just quickly wana adress something else, I see in this photo here.... Are these plants planted directly into the transparent cups? If so I would advise against it as roots don't wana see the light. they prefer it pitch black underground. and if the roots are stunted the rest of the plant will stunt too. then I also see you got a auto in that small cup. I have never grown autos myself, but word around town is they don't do well with repotting and any bit of stress will make them kick in their heels and show you the finger. rule of thumb with autos is to pop the seed straight in their final pot.1 point
