  1. 20 X PKBR into BioLeaf. I plan to aggressively top the plants to prevent them from getting as tall as the previous grow, lost a fair amount of yield due to height even with running the blue spectrum. May need to run it longer into the initial stretch. As per the title will be testing out canna coco nutrients. They're currently under 2 x 720 watt fixtures dimmed down to 20% with a mix of blue diodes to stretch prevention. A few of the clones are a bit taller which will just be kept short until the rest catch up. I plan to use 2-3 nets for structural support this round as well.

  2. I ran into a guy at the nursery that happen to hear what I was going to use the pots and soil for and he grows himself and helped me out with some recommendations. Got 2 20l pots and 8 smaller ones. 4 bags of coco peat 2 bags of loam soil a bag of silica sand but its more like small rocks, same size as the airlite and a bag of airlite. mixed it all up and filled the pots so I just need to wait for the seeds to sprout a root and I’m ready to plant. Thanks for all the help I will start a new thread and post to it as I go.

  3. I really like Quantum Boards, multiple Quantum boards for added flexibility. Also allows for better airflow compared to some other larger lights. Bar lights can be nice, you get loads and can get some which are designed for specific sized tents, however you lose a bit of flexibility with individual height adjustment which can become useful if running multiple strains in the same tent or have plants in different stages in veg etc.

  4. Everyone forgets about Milbeknock when it comes to IPM. It is quite literally a super miticide. Breaks down in 4 days. Translaminar so penetrates through the leaf to kill on the bottom as well. Kills all mite species in all stages of development. One application and done. Is effective even with a non-lethal dose. No tolerance buildup.

  5. something often put aside - is your IPM management supplies. growing invites lots of critters into the environment, some are good, some are bad...and the bad ones are the tough ones to get rid of. a few products that are invaluable would be the following Pyrol spinosad 350sc coppersoap and a good wetting agent these should keep your happy growing experience....happy

  6. All good and well about the dehumidifier. But it also depends where is SA you live. Any where along the coast you will have issues with PM especially if you are beginner. another thing Grow in soil for your first couple of grows. It is way more forgiving than the nutrient/hydro techniques. Invest in Explogrow it may seem expensive but you will not regret it. Research seed sprout teas as a feed if you want to feed your plants. Also buy a small air pump. You can air rate your water with it and brew all the teas you will need.

  8. Hi all Found the forum as I am looking to start growing my self. I have been using extracts and edibles for a while to help with stress, anger and anxiety. Not to big a fan of getting too baked and mostly like it for the medicinal properties. Hope to have a awesome time on the forum and learn as much as I can. Regards Dread

  9. The Pokon nutes aren't the cheapest. For veg, you can get away with buying some Seagro and using that. For flower you'd want to move away from the Seagro and over to something with lower Nitrogen and higher Phosphorus. Edit: what else works well I believe which a few members have done is started using the Talborne slow release pellets and mix that into their soil and I believe get away without feeding nutes during veg. Of course if you notice deficiencies, you can always start adding more liquid nutes then as well.

  10. I'm stuck in my ways brother. I still kind of believe that Gavita double ended HPS is the gold standard for indoor lighting. However, their new CT LED range seems like it might be a game changer. They have put some real R&D into this product. The light it gives off is not "white". It has more red in it than the usual LED offerings. Also, the design of the light makes it a direct 1 to 1 replacement for a 1000w double ended HPS fixture. I'm referring to the real estate it takes up as well as the light footprint. Gavita understands the logistics of a grow room like no other. If you have some spare time, go and watch some of the informational videos on their site.

  11. Its all a mental game. As soon as you run more than 3 hours in a mountain. @Weskushwe should go for a run when the stars align. Planning on running the Tankwa Karoo trail run this year. Maybe the batrun end of march. https://tankwatrail.co.za/

  12. It all depends on your budget range. There are really expensive products but then there are really cheap products. when you buy a tent look for one with metal corners. They last the longest. And always be careful with the zips. Mars hydro is a good midrange tent. Fans: the clip on fans are probably the best when it comes to tents. Hydrobiz is the cheapest. Look for the pole clip on fans extration fan: buy an in-line fan you can get a decent inline fan at AC/DC. My little one has been running for 4 years non stop, except when we have load shedding. Dehumidifier: Check secondhand shops and liquidation businesses. You can pick one up for 2500. lights: well that is up to you. LED’s will last you at least 5 years. So buy good quality. Growopz is a good place to start looking for lights. The is also a couple of startups I think @MrEmay be doing lights bar style and @Light It Up does quantum boards.

  13. Hi all, @Ill_Evan, from you question, "..It would be interesting to hear your take on the above." Not sure what you're asking me to comment on. Is there another post you had in mind? @SAgrower Thanks! Its on the right on desktop browsers, and turns into a little 3 bar button on the left when reduced to mobile size, didn't see that before. ..MimiEMU

  15. Just thinking of using loam soil? my local nursery has and I’ll get some 20l pots then. I also have some plant Nutrients not sure the brand but it is the one I water the bonsai with once every week or so. The seeds are currently in between some cotton. I did put them in water and waited for them to sink before I put them between the cotton. I have some time today to go to the nursery so going to check what they have and I need. My shopping list is as follows: Small pots for planting the seeds when they sprout there first root. 4-8pots Bigger pots 20l at least 4 Enough soil for the pots Lemon juice to spray the plants if they get some mould or insects (was reading it works well diluted 30/70 with water) If anyone has something I missed please let me know! Just a f.y.i only thing I have grown is some jalapeños and I have a Red Maple bonsai witch I bought

  16. I'm looking at growing outdoors for now and not to concerned about yield and getting the maximum out of the plant, that will come with time and experience. I have some seeds to start off with and planing on planting them in 15L pots so I can move the plants in and out if it gets too cold or rains for too long. I got the seeds from my sister in-law she makes her own extract from buds and with that makes a oil I use and she makes edibles as well. I want to start making my own extract and thought to also grow my own cannabis, take out the middle man! Then I can control every aspect of my own product. I'm leaning more towards the high CBD plants I have been looking at some seeds that I want to try but think playing with what I have now and getting some experience and then spend the money to grow specific strains. If I do it now I fear I'll be trowing money in the drain, the seeds I have no idea what strain or if they are more THC or CBD. I have however rolled a joint with the bud and was a nice feeling of calm and relaxation and I was not baked but just mellow witch I like a lot, but not as effective as the oil and I don't like to smoke as I quit cigarettes about 5 years ago.

  20. Yea, they are quite strong and you can get away with spacing the boards out a bit more if you'd like. I find their size works well in a 1.2 x 2.4m and 1.2 x 0.6m tent. As well as some of the smaller square ones -0.8x0.8, 1x1 and 1.2 x 1.2 In a 1.5 x 1.5 the layout of the boards needs to change but it can work well still. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk

  22. So there is the argument and something that i've thought about personally. The 240w qbs are great and work very well, they are just very strong. I'm going to cut mine in half and extent them out to 75cm. Upgrade my 1m to a 1,2m, and move to totes @CreX. Will do 2 strains in each and still have flexibility in that regard. Abit off topic but, indoor growing is all about flexibility, and with soil, you to need flexibility too, so that's the reason for the totes. Will be easier to keep the soil malleable, the size and different states of the soil. But back to lights, bar lights are still cool.

  23. I doubt you will need a dehumidifier. For me, the biggest concern for pm/mold is when I lose power and the plants have to marinade in above 90% humidity with no air movement. Also, it might not be a bad idea to stick with the 240 x 120 tent and then take a phased approach to extra power and lights. This way you won't need to buy a new tent when you inevitably level up.

  26. Many thanks Totemic. Great answer!. I have a baseline now. The 1 M2 tent is the compromise. I'm just trying to imagine 4 plants in there?. I grew quite big plants in 20l pots before, and reckon each one was close to 1 M2. Pardon my ignorance on that one. I better get my arse into gear and fit solar first. Looking forward to trying a grow indoors! Will start looking for some gear soon. 1.0x1.0 Tent, Extractor fan size/wattage?? LEDs wattage/suggested type? Dehumidifier? Passive intake or fan? Anything else you think I need? Really appreciate your help. Sorry for delay in responding.

  28. Yeah, give it a try if you'd like. Make sure there is little to no bark / wood as this often makes the soil too acidic for cannabis. I have yet to find a nice soil mix which I'd use for cannabis (other than the cannabis specific ones) and this goes for my house plants as well - so I often mix some coco and perlite with a bit of compost or potting soil as house plants often aren't as fussy with the bark as cannabis can be. Some soils are too hot for cannabis seedlings and you can burn your plants. I do not know what soil your nursery stocks - perhaps consider doing a bit of a test. Get some soil from your nursery for some plants and get yourself a bag of some soil commonly used for Cannabis and see how the results differ (if they even do). I have seen many new members try grow in soil from their nursery and end up with lots of issues and they end up demotivated because of it, it can also be a nightmare to try and nurse your plant back to health and correct the issues. Stay far, far away from Culterra. I plant seedlings straight into 20L pots, however you can start in smaller pots and pot up when needed. Nice! I have a red lace leaf japanese maple, recently put it into the ground as well as a normal japanese maple and then also a liquid amber. That Bonsai nutes will likely suffice for veg, in flower you may want something with more P though and a decent amount of K. Not sure about lemon juice working for pests, maybe for PM as it will lower the PH of the leaves but take it as it comes. Everyone has a different growing environment, so what works for one may not work for the other or the situation may differ. For now - take it as it comes. There are many ways to grow cannabis, there is not necessarily a right or wrong way. You need to find what works best for you. People can give you advise and guidance and say what works well for them or what may work well for you and your situation, end of the day you're the one doing the growing and it needs to work for you. Maybe take a look around the forum, view some of the grow diaries and see what issues some members ran into and how they resolved the issues etc.

  30. in that case man, you are reaaally in the right place!! that Loam soil im not 100% sure about - but what i do know is cannabis does not like soils that compact easily - so if it does compact , i would get some coco and perlite or either of the two to help loosen up the soil. nutrients should be okay... i know bonsais dont require too much feeding, but in saying that, my first plant grew in a bonsai soil and it was AMAZING!!! get those seeds into the pots as soon as you can and put them in a sunny spot - preferably from dawn till dusk kinda sun

  31. Hi Yes from carb I think I am going to stick to the seeds I have now and not stress to much about it, this wil be my first grow and don’t want to buy seeds that I will probably end up wasting, this is just for the trail and some experience. I’m also not to concerned about the yield have done a bit of reading on the subject and need to see wat a female and male plant looks like, what the growth cycle is and what I can and can not do that will impact the plants. My end goal is to grow some nice bud that I can use to make some extract with but I’m in no rush and will enjoy the hobby and see if it is for me or not. I am motivated to grow for the reason the oil I can by is quite expensive and I see why, think the feeling of doing it your self and succeeding is a rewarding one.

  32. Welcome @Dread ! From Carb? Outdoor growing, well, currently we're in the flowering part of the season. So you can get some seeds going however plants won't end up as big and yield might be slightly on the lower side but still worth while to get a harvest in before it is too late. You can always make a quick purchase of some seeds if you'd prefer to know what you are growing, or use this to just gain some experience before winter comes. If you do not like getting too stonned, then some high CBD strains could be good As a beginner, I would suggest getting some nice soil which has been tried and proven to work well for cannabis. Incorrect soil can lead to lots of frustrations and issues - best to spend a little more and avoid these issues as a beginner. Once you know what you're doing, you can start to experiment a bit more. Freedom Farms Classic (green bag) is very popular and commonly used. You can also reuse your soil, no need to toss it out after a grow. If you are unsure about anything, members on the forum will help guide you through your grow to ensure some success.

  34. I really want to switch to Gavita's new CT2000 LED fixtures, but the initial cost of replacing 10 fixtures is just too much at this point. They are kick ass lights though, and I am a firm believer in the Gavita brand.

  35. https://hydrobiz.co.za/collections/nanolux/products/ledzx-f630-folding-fixture this is probably the best priced light. you can also choose to import direct from china. But that is at own risks

  36. If you are going to invest money into lights you should go for the bar style lights in my opinion. Your plants can grow closer to the light as you don’t have heat issues with this style of lights. You also have a better foot print. If you look at large commercial facilities in the USA this is the only lights they use.
