KmintZ are in! There are four KmintZ and two supporting ZxP. They looking fresh and ready for their flowering journey. I gave them all a nice douse of spinosad before going in just as a preventative to the latest little stint of thrips, of which I saw none of when checking tonight. I got a little fright when looking for more PWM, but it turns out it was just dry milk on the leaves that I rubbed yesterday. Lol me. Otherwise, I haven't spotted any more PWM so hopefully that has been sorted as well. Flower tent looking skits. KmintZ ZxP Gorilla Zkittlez7 points

Hey guys Been a while since I posted cause phone fell and cracked the screen. So it went in for repairs and I got it back yesterday. This morning I snapped some fresh pics of the ladies.... JACKY WHITE : BLUE KUSH BERRY : PINEAPPLE CHUNK : BANNER BISCUITS : BRUCE BANNER : SLURRICANE CHEESE : So that my garden shots for now. They have come a far way since my last update. I so apologize for that but my phone broke during work and had to go in for repairs. Unfortunately, all my info was on the phone and I had to wait for its return. The Pineapple Chunk is taking her time to start flowering, but all the others is in full flower. This is a good platter this season and looking forward to puff them all...5 points

So, the 3 SCH are doing great, JF clones are 4.5/6, although entirely my own fault. I left the zip on main tent down and one of my cats was investigating the rickety scaffolding in a strange very bright white room, and was really surprised to be suddenly showered with wet substrate and small plants... Luckily only one clone was a outright write-off, the .5 was just kinked, so I masking tape splinted and it seems to be ok. You can see it in the middle below. the idea is to keep them all in main tent, until there's something to flower. Then I'll get around to setting up my smaller tent for mothers/vegging. Talking about substrate, the grow medium I use is largely recycled from previous grows, with top ups of whatever it seems to need, including lots of home-made compost. I've seen advice to not recycle, but i've never had problems, and it spends a long time 'ageing' outside in the sun between re-uses. Nutrients; at the moment it's just water for everyone, substrate has enough nutes to get through until 2nd transplant. When I do start, I have been using Green House Feeding powder fertilizer. When that's finished though i'll be switching to their BioGrow version.4 points

The members we have on the forum, especially the active ones, are a tiny percentage of growers here in SA. Unfortunately the forum is not a place where most growers with bigger operations hang out. Also a lot of them like to keep quiet and lurk instead. Not saying we do not have any or that they aren't active on the forum, but there are growers who have been doing this for years in a larger scale and continue to do so. They've generally learn what they need to and will run their own independent tests when needed and seldom need to reach out for help or already have the contacts in place and do not require a forum to do it. I feel there are far more newer growers on the forum and majority are home growers. Some might be larger home grows, however a homegrower none the less. Although we're getting off topic now. I hope such an even pops up in JHB sometime, will be pretty cool! A bit more time to prepare and get plants ready and growing will help though.4 points

Also remember, the Constitutional Court gave parliament 2 years to implement the relevant laws and regulations. That was September 2018. The State of Disaster has most certainly slowed the process, but I also think it became a bigger task for them when they started getting deeper into the proverbial weeds. We are really in a strange place at the moment. We got the legacy growers who already had the necessary capital at the time the SAHPRA medical research license came about and they jumped on that, or alternatively they chose to remain in the shadows. Then the encroaching hobby sector that are pushing the line between personal craft and commercial operation. We also have hydroponic stores popping up nearly every week, some just straight up sell weed under the counter, others take the growers club model and pay memberships and are "donated" their sections. Lastly, every now and then there's a 420 café or event that pops up. I just don't see how dropping any legislation now is going to stop this beast that has been unleashed. Unless they relaunch the war on drugs in a very real way, to the point of putting real government money into it, I don't see them winning. They really gotta adapt to the reality that this plant has been integral to this land for centuries. It's not going away, and won't be controlled in the way that they want. There is also a general angst developing towards our government. Not just in the cannabis industry, but in all walks in life, people are getting tired of the nonsensical decisions and greed within our political leaders. Law and order is cool, but just remind yourself how we got here.4 points

aha how does one go about getting nominated? and who judges that? the 100 judges also first come first in and any ol' Joe can enter, like my uncle who never smoked weed before? people getting offended by everything, we are way too soft these days! When it's a competition there shouldn't be a problem with those terms, if a person wants to get offended when placing themself in a judged-by-the-public situation, they will just have to get over it and learn from the experience. hopefully it helps them grow and rise to the occasion so they can better themself. those that don't learn naturally gets weeded out over time, because no one likes a overly emotional person with a bad attitude. we all get offended by different stuff, but who cares? we can't all bend over backward everytime someone gets a little butthurt about their feelings. there is such a huge hidden network of big time growers right under our noses. every corner I turn I hear about some big time grower I never knew about. it's safe to say that Cape Town has some very serious growers. the likes of which this forum doesn't see too often. I sometimes forget that people have been growing and selling super dank weed around CPT for years and years and years and those growers or their children are still around doing big things. they just don't care to make themselves known. looking at some of the other grow competitions I see people and names I've never heard of, always asking myself "where did this guy come from all of a sudden" forgetting that every big time grower has a number of years of experience behind them, but what they do right is keeping quiet. operating in silence. then they wait for competitions like these and just pop out to steal the show4 points

Only the selected entrants will need to send in their 50g. No. The 10 best will be selected. If some one enters after the selections they will be too late, unless the herb is worth making an exception for and adding.3 points

Ya I don't know, I feel like that's a serious operation, they are just shy of getting the license, which doesn't make much sense to me. I'm not bothered with people who start growing ridiculous amounts and getting caught. Now at least I think there will be a clearer line drawn in the sand as to who is cultivating for the purpose of reselling and who the craft and hobby growers are. If you look hard enough, articles from a couple months ago, you'll find here in WC, Hawks parading about finding some ballie with a 2,4x1,2 and 0.8x0.8 in a garage, no gun, no bullets, no other dwelms. So very possibly, they could be bolstering their services for the real Plantations, after being dicks and looking for the local goofdies I really don't think the illegal market is going anywhere, I think its very possibly getting way bigger than ever before. We've seen how they've gone about it in the states. The illicit operations are scaled up in the desert somewhere and they go MASSIVE! At the end of the day, if you are growing weed, and uncertain weather the amount looks somewhat questionable. NEVER FAULTER. Make sure you have these documents printed and ready to demand your right to cultivate for personal use. Otherwise, you have nothing to claim your rights. 1168492545_SAPS-Circular-Arrest-and-detention-19.11-2(1).pdf SKM_C65819012308440-police-directive-220119 (1).pdf3 points

The cup is open for anyone to enter or be a judge. I don't use word's like best when discussing events.2 points
-
I don't use words like "best" as it may offend someone. If I had to consider every opinion I would never get anything done. 10 strains is a reasonable amount to judge in one afternoon/evening. 0.5g of each strain is also a fair amount to review.2 points

Or maybe this isn't really the place for finding participants and that's already sorted, we can count on a pre-selected bunch of A-grade growers, all 10 of which are some of the best in SA All you gotta do is go smoke some bud and confirm such!2 points
-
Lol , I'm so confused. I don't think they will take any random bud from anyone. There seems to be somewhat of a vetting process where the bud must qualify for entry into the competition, I think by means of a picture or something. And then 10 seats, if it is 10, I don't think it will be a good representation of the best bud in SA. 10 people is just too little and 100 judges is just too much I think you can draw out bias with 25 judges, get more entrants, tell them to bring less bud, I don't know, just another option.2 points

Had an itch to start documenting, sharing and learning again. So I'm dusting off the rust and getting back in the grow diary saddle. Haven't really done this kinda thing since the weed.co.za and BTL days. Expect blunt opinions, a bit of pollen chucking and lank dank:) Am running a small outdoor greenhouse. Shaded sides and greenhouse plastic top around slightly raised organic beds. All plants are started in Freedom Farms Classic. Sprouted in trays, transplanted to 1lt bags then to beds. I've always xmas treed outdoor plants but am trying SCROG for the first time. Hoping this will improve quality and consistency. Yield is not a top priority. Would rather have a 3 jars of gas than 1 of jar gas with 5 jars of popcorn. Clones were were vegged inside for a month+ and then put outside in mid December. Been stretching and are in early flower. First trichomes are around the corner. Clones are Terple, Frosted Apricots, Tart Pops, GG4. Seeds were planted in mid December. The goal if for them to push veg and flower a bit later than usual. Trying to avoid the late summer rains and bud rot. A pinch more colour from the lower Autumn temps wouldn't hurt. Seedlings are Banizzle, Blue Dreamsicle, Totomi, Purpsicle and Jungle Juice. First prize is a hip to chest height layer of buds. Maintaining tall plants and broken branches sucks. A lower canopy is gonna do wonders for my back and let me really savor watching the grass grow. Also doing a seed run. Not gonna claim to be a breeder or anything like that. Simply pollen chucking a dank stud on bunch of my favourite cuts. It's dope to have grown enough cultivars to know what I like and enjoy working with. Refining my preferred genetics and pheno hunting is a new adventure. More on that later. Here's a video of where things are at today. The little greenhouse of mostly In-House Genetics.1 point

Hey man, so the plants I got left are doing well ! The 3 in the ground I've kept and are in early flower atm but due to space limits on this little test grow I had to get rid of the 4 plants I had in the pots (so the 1 grapefruit sourz got gifted but the 3 chocolate gelato are no more as I couldn't get anyone willing to take them in for me) I've gotten a little side tracked with a small project and I'm basically just leaving the plants to do their thing atm I'll do a proper update this evening or tomorrow and post some pics1 point

Above is the police directorate that was signed by sitohle on the 2018 constitutional court ruling. These 2 documents dive into deep details regarding circumstances of cultivating, possessing, transporting etc. In all circumstances the documents site that there is almost no situation where arrests are a suitable way of managing these instances (now with the new understanding of where cannabis fits in). They are the road map for police officers/law enforcement on how to handle all situations concerning cannabis. These documents have obviously not been a topic of discussion at our local police stations, they probably haven't even seen them. Making arrest is what police have to do. It is what makes the wheels spin there. Now imagine government says nope no more arresting cannabis farmers. Its as good as taking money away from them. They can see what's happening to the illicit market better than anyone I suspect. With all our foreign investment, your words fall on deaf ears. Shouting and screaming for things is an earnest way to go about shit, but its not the smartest way.1 point

That shit looks like the dream. As far as I am concerned, on paper, you can spin that farm into within the limits of what the current white paper regulations provide for. At a push, he could even get a few mates to say that he grows for them on their behalf because he has the land and they do not. If he hasn't got any other kak on the property, isn't stealing electricity/water, and pays his rates and taxes, I doubt anyone will give problems. ...unless they a rat.1 point

Cool cool thanks for the clarification yo! Will there be an online presence for those not in Capetown? A live testing vibe or something? I'd love to see what is out there and how the judges weigh up terpines, bag appeal, high and smoke of some of the greatest bud in SA.1 point

Suppose it's a good time to tell my 75 year old neighbour to tone it down then. Dude woke up one day and decided it's legal now. Asked him what the fuck he's gonna do with so much weed and who is going to harvest. Haven't thought about that was the answer.1 point

Thanks mate. Pretty happy with this one, luck of the pheno mostly I guess, but I also did my best!1 point

Considering there are 100 judges, I do not feel it is a crazy amount. As you said 5g of bud per judge in total for the day. Yielding 50g from a plant is not unreasonable. Obviously will vary depending on the way the plant was grown and training done etc. However one can easily yield 50g from a plant, perhaps even more... I assume the 50g could even come from 2 plants, which are the same strains (ideally same pheno)? 100x judges also makes it a bit more fair, helps rule out bias from a small group of judges who may just happen to have a preference towards certain terps for example.1 point

If my grow goes successfully, I need to mail you 10g’s from each strain. [emoji23][emoji23] you literally have been helping these plants grow, remotely. I really appreciate you. In the big tent I have a 110W full spectrum Quantum board and a supportive 50W small led. But the QB is really strong. I am currently using the small tent as a flowering chamber for one plant that is due. It’s just one plant due for flowering that’s why I’m using the small tent. And the small tent is cooler. So I let her spend her dark time in small tent and when it is time for light, I take her to the big tent and take three other vegging plants from the big tent to the small one. Because I have a 150W full spectrum in the small tent. I run just one extraction fan in the small tent and very effective. On the other hand you just opened my eyes to the fact that I can turn one extraction around and make it pull cool air into the tent. Thanks for that. I’ll put that in motion and update you on the results as usual. Thank you thank you thank you!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I believe it's more for very aggressive plants or strains. The leca they recommend for you to put at the bottom of the pots is so that if the roots get too keen on space, you won't risk the drainage holes getting clogged. It's very beneficial for the system to be able to fully drain the pots before it feeds via the aquavalve again. As long as this is achieved, with or without leca, you should be good. In other words, as long as you're not using straight up clay, I think most mediums will be fine. I personally like using this technique because with the addition of the airdomes which I use, I feel the roots are getting the best of both worlds with a healthy medium to retain moisture, and the space at the bottom between the leca to suck up that good O2, plus never having to worry about drainage being an issue. However it's also important then to use the root control discs in the trays and the matrix sheet inside the pot to stop any dirt or dust getting past the leca and messing with the aquavalve.1 point

Hectic wind and the heatwave just after one another really battered the babies. But they will bounce back with a few scars. They handle the wind far better than the taller photos. These two got really beaten to shit. The tall one that was in the other corner got pulled last night and fed to the chickens. Every part of it looked broken or torn up and its still not in flower. If I started autos in that pot today I would still beat the one I pulled to the finish line. But I put 2 T1000 clones in her place. At the back everything is going ok. They didnt get the hectic wind. Trimmed then a few days ago.1 point

Good day fellow cannabis lovers. I have a short story to share on this topic. I have been purchasing seeds for many years now and I have purchased most of my library from places like cannasmiths, BnB's and trophy seeds. I make it a point to try seed banks that I come across and give them a fair go. So some free advertising for these 2 seed banks. Recently I have tried 2 online shops africansmoke and budbuddies. For the africansmoke order I purchased some slurricane seeds from Inhouse genetics so it was a pricey order and the budbuddies order was a small 1 at about 1k with some ripper genetics. African smoke order took 16 hours to arrive at my door from the time of placing the order not the time of payment. Not only was it 16 hours but I received 6 free seeds and half a g of dab. The budbuddies order took a similar time to arrive around 16 to 18 hours and I received 10 free ripper Badazz seeds. So my experience has been more then excellent with these online shops. From someone who has been around the block this was a first. Just my experience. I would say put those bros up on this board!1 point
