  3. everybody likes different things. i know okes who wont touch bud if its not dense enough to knock their china into next week, okes who wont smoke it if it doesnt smell like she flicked her panties at you with her toes, okes who need weed to steam roll them like a potato chip and leave them incapable of simple tasks... okes who sneer at nugs if they are smaller than elmos dick... nowdays if okes cant smell it over the phone from the plug, or if it doesnt shine like diamonds in the baggy..... they just look elsewhere and they will find what they crave its really hard to make everyone happy lol

  4. Hey guys The number of entries in our past few SOTM's have been disappointing... so perhaps we should have a look at running our Plant Of The Month competition again. How do you guys feel about that? Or perhaps something entirely different? Please let me know with your vote in the poll or please reply to this thread with your comments and/or suggestions. The poll options are as follows: I'm keen for a POTM, I have plants going at the moment and will enter the March POTM I would prefer we continue with SOTM I would prefer we continue with SOTM but would like the management of the competitions to be more structured. I'd like something something completely different The standard of prizes at the moment is not enough motivation for me to enter I'm of course fully conscious of the fact that at times my running of the comp has been far short of professional. With late winner announcements etc. If this puts you off entering comps please do let me know as well and I will do my best to find a way to run these comps smoother Cheers

  8. Yeah, expecting far more frost this time. Things have changed a lot in the last few years. Sad but true. The one that won was purely on bag appeal. Could see that many folk picked it as the winner before even smelling or toking it. It was still killa weed. Just wonder if it was the best. Yeah, had a couple of green house entries. Great spot on the pip spoor. True that. Personally chasing terps in my grow. Strong weed is kinda becoming a given. Am preferring flavour over potency.

  9. Sorry bro, the era of smooth smoke and terpenes are over! The cool kids these days only want size and frost!

  10. As far as i know they only test for certain contaminants. Most certainly not for every contaminant under the sun but the best that we have in SA at the moment when it comes to testing according to what i've heard from friends.

  11. I think Qure are the real deal, laboratory standard stuff. I've seen a report before by them, was pretty in-depth from what I remember.

  12. Most plants range around 8weeks after flower with the occasional strain doing it in 7 weeks but we all can agree it usally takes longer. A 9 week or 10 week seems to be the spot for most my plants, that's when I usally look at the tricomes

  13. I have a tent full of beautiful cuts and I still prefer the QK F3. I think @TrophySeeds should bring in some more Ethos regular seeds.

  14. Goodmorning @Michelle Venter it's all about trichomes. when asking about harvesting there should be a bell going off in you head "TRICHOMES TRICHOMES TRICHOMES" what is a trichome you ask? well, it's the sticky cryatally sparkly things that look like sugar on your weed. they contain the compound that make us high and really is the focus here. Yeah that plant has its ways to go still! by the looks of it 2 to 4 weeks also wouldn't cut it. I would say you're only at around week 4 right now, those buds still have some stacking to do. you should think about 10 to 13 weeks in total. Don't look at pictures of other weed and hope and wait till your plant gets to looking like that. you'll wait forever. what you should be looking at is trichomes. where you growing that plant? with indoor grows it's easier to guesstimate a flowering time period, because you control the environment. outdoors things can be a little different as the way the plant performs is completely dependant on light cycle and other environmental factors. sometimes outdoor plants can take a little longer to finish, but what you've got there is a bag seed so this throws us dead in the middle of a guessing game. golden key - bag seed is cool for learning to grow, but if you looking to grow good weed easily, generally stay clear from bag seeds. You're a grower now, you should get yourself one of these, this should take some of the guessing out of the game for you. for now. https://hydroponic.co.za/hydroponics/microscope-loupe-40x/ then you need to study trichomes, they're your guide to when you should be harvesting. Clear Trichomes - Too early - early harvest can cause racey highs and may cause some people anxiety 50% Amber Trichomes (inside buds) - Ready to harvest Majority Amber Trichomes - Too late - late harvest can result in couch lock weed, even if it's sativa it'll make you feel sedated like indica.

  15. Very very nice, I would expect to see a lot of bud looking like this now: However there is more to good bud than just looks

  16. Thank you so much, it's truly an honour and I am very thankful. I will be pressing some flower from the recent harvest and blaze it up with a nice rig from @THCSA Thank you to the judges, @420SA and @THCSA I will post some pics once the set up is sorted.

  19. So unforunately we cant go on with the freakshow reversal. The balls contain no pollen. So yeah it sucks that we wasted so much time on this plant. We tried STS and CS. Removed them to finish outdoors.

  21. QURE does test for certain contaminants eg. mycotoxins, heavy metals, pesticides.

  22. What you treating your plants with... I stand to be corrected, however companies which are able to test cannabis for contaminants in SA does not fully exist yet. I was actually looking for some, there was one I stumbled upon but they're still awaiting approval and to receive the samples to calibrate their equipment with. Also not the cheapest and it just compares it against a list of contaminants, so if the contaminant is not on that list then it won't be detected.

  23. Hmm, it is not difficult to mount a TV bracket but can be a mission without the proper tools. I have a swivel type of TV bracket and it is awesome - it allows you to adjust the angle as well so even if you do not mount the TV mount 100% straight you can adjust it so that the TV is straight and you can pull the TV out and push it in and turn it and tilt it etc. etc. Not something I use all that often, but helps bring the TV a bit closer when you have a small TV lol If you have such a mount, perhaps you can consider doing it yourself?

  27. Two of the sponsors are bringing their test gear for the day. Green Smoke Room Seeds have a Gemmacert and Qure have a Sage Analytics Profiler. All entrants will be tested side by side. We will announce a strongest in show. Maybe a cool trophy too. They will be offering bud tests for the judges. Qure have offered to run full profiles for the 2023 cup, including terp analysis. This would take a bit more notice all round next timeand is certainly on my whiteboard. Potency was an abstract thing to judge at The Amber Cups, as the THC lines become very blurred when blazing or dabbing plenty. So yes... dimensions such as appearance, flavour/smell, burn, effect play very important roles when judging. Cannabis is 420% subjective and I respect that some opinions are held higher than others. The event is open to anyone who wants to judge. Everyone get's one vote. You coming?

  28. i think you mean the pistols are majority browny colour... pistols are the initially white firey looking things that indicate the start of flower, they stay white until they are no longer viable to catch pollen - coincedently because Pistols go brown around the same time as the trichomes go amber, which leads to confusion among new growers... the trichomes are the tiny almost microscopic white little round things on the surface of the leaves and bud circled in red below in your pic, they are mostly clear and cloudy

  29. How do you like that SSC? Is it worth growing if the flowering time shortens? I recon you have to push it to 13 or 14 weeks if not longer. I would start feeding weak molasses solution to keep the microbes active.

  30. Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated. Yeah....i still got alot to learn but i will be checking the trichomes until most but not the majority is amber in colour. Loving this Forum this far!

  32. Just a tip. A trick I learned from an expert , Easiest is to always convert every thing to to WATTS, W = I (Amps) x V (Voltage) if a battery is 12V and rated 102Ah its 1224 Watt Hours, meaning for 1 hour you can draw 1224 watts. From here you can work out for how long. I.e if you have a device that draw 500wats 1224Wh/500wats = 2.4 hours. However there are some caveats. Usually when it comes to lithium batteries, they already display the specifications in Wh. So if you have a 5Kwh battery it means you can draw 5000 watts from it for one hour before its depleted. And Lithium batteries usually are OK with 100% DOD (Depth of discharge) where as other batteries such as Lead acid and AGM don't like being discharged too much. 50% is considered max anything beyond this point does not make sense and causes major damage. So essentially a 12V 102Ah is realistically a 51Ah battery as far as usage goes.. Its rated 102Ah because that's how they test it in the lab and in the Lab try get the most AH out of it for marketing purposes which basically became a standard way of measuring SLA/AGM batteries. With Lithium they don't have to tell white lies and just give it to you as it is. The reason you want a 48V system over 12V is because Current and Voltage is on a scale. The higher the voltage the lower the current draw. Current=Heat. Which also means you dont need extra thick cables. And just because a battery is capable of its spec, it doesn't mean you should draw max current from it because they will get hot and heat kills batteries in not time. They can also put up quite a show if you abuse them , this goes for all types of batteries. Things to bear in mind Type of inverter Pure sine VS Square wave. If you are running expensive lights making use of expensive LED drivers they will become hot and may reduce its life span. you want pur sine wave , Square wave inverters are cheap nasty stuff.

  38. Just for interest, how’s this Matrix Disc (sits at the bottom of the pot with the purpose of keeping bits of coco / soil away from the tray and the valve). Such vigorous root growth even gets around the standard copper root-control disc, which is why I recommend the copper “pot-sock” for proper root control. You can see where the airdome sits. The air domes get completely choked with fine white roots, they love the extra air. Normally I re-use my Matrix Disc but this one is too far gone!

  40. It's a strange wonderland of grey area. The entire Constitutional Court judgement in 2018 originated from a Rastafari lawyer who wanted to smoke cannabis and still practice law, but because how the law works, if you defy the law, you technically can't be a lawyer. So on a fundamental principal of privacy, they ruled that people in South Africa may consume cannabis in private. Even so, it is not legal, because they haven't written the laws and regulations yet. But also, it is not illegal, because the relevant laws which previously dictated the illegality of consuming cannabis have been suspended. It is 100% still illegal to sell cannabis though... [did someone say donation?] So insurance, for example, can do whatever their internal policies dictate because nothing has been made concrete yet.

  41. Yeah, I think it will be awesome for those who attend and I feel it is great that we are getting such events in South Africa. The more events like this the better for us I feel, brings more exposure and with time the backing will increase and the events have the opportunities to grow and improve. If 10 entrants and 100 judges do not work, learn from it and move on and improve it on the next even. Simple as that. I do not feel it will detract from the fun for those attending or entering into the cannabis cup.
