True! There's gona be a winner and chances are good it's not gona be every judges top pick. it's not like the buds will be running a race against eachother and first over the line is the winner lol there are way too many criteria to not be subjective Hell yeah, I would like to be a judge on the day. For now the date is conflicting with arrangements that I am trying to wriggle myself out of before buying a ticket. If I don't make it on the day I'll be trying my best to make it to the expo on one of the other days. I think it's safe to say I am speaking on behalf of the whole community when I say we all whole-heartedly appreciate the moves you guys are making. there are sooooo many of us out here and we all been hoping and dreaming of this since the day we took our first puff, now it's time. MORE POWER TO YOU @THCSA4 points

Will only be running standard tests at the venue with 2 portable units. Qure have offered full tests for 2023 as will have more time to co-ordinate with the growers. This is an opportunity to start somewhere and build for 2023. It's also far more than anyone else in the community has attempted so far. @Khakibos, are you gonna enter or be a judge?4 points

I am pretty sure we did a poll like this a while back, however things change and new products come onto the market. Wondering what nutes everyone is using, I am considering changing over to try one or two others to see how they are. Whether I stick with them is another question though.3 points

TA tri part forms the foundation of my feed routine. I’m tempted by the TA for coco, it’s a two-part…. Anyone have experience with both?3 points

Hmmm... this is a pretty interesting read Found this, there might be a bit of fat added though, what do they go for direct from the supplier?: https://www.growfolk.co.za/brand/netafim/3 points

Hey guys The number of entries in our past few SOTM's have been disappointing... so perhaps we should have a look at running our Plant Of The Month competition again. How do you guys feel about that? Or perhaps something entirely different? Please let me know with your vote in the poll or please reply to this thread with your comments and/or suggestions. The poll options are as follows: I'm keen for a POTM, I have plants going at the moment and will enter the March POTM I would prefer we continue with SOTM I would prefer we continue with SOTM but would like the management of the competitions to be more structured. I'd like something something completely different The standard of prizes at the moment is not enough motivation for me to enter I'm of course fully conscious of the fact that at times my running of the comp has been far short of professional. With late winner announcements etc. If this puts you off entering comps please do let me know as well and I will do my best to find a way to run these comps smoother Cheers2 points

Interestingly enough, there were laws relating to cannabis earlier than 1922, but in the form of crop taxation (which is how the prohibition game started out). It would be a veritable shit show if we removed cannabis completely from written law. We have laws because we cannot regulate ourselves autonomously, it would be lovely (this anarchist's dream), but alas practically unpackable, and indefinitely so, methinks. That being said, I'd definitely appreciate an interview if you are keen. I would definitely like to hear more on your views. My contact details are available in OP.2 points

Most growers say the same thing, they will keep doing what they are doing regardless of regulations. Inevitably some consumers do want surety that the products they are consuming adhere to certain standards, and government is always in the business of regulation. I think the two need to meet somewhere, but legacy stakeholder engagements seem few and far between with regards to government attempting to learn form legacy gowers and legitimising their existing supply chains. No matter who you are though, if you want to sell your garden variety tomatoes to the grocer, you need to prove that you are following GAP and GMP standards, so naturally cannabis will be regulated within the same framework. It is part of consumer protection frameworks. I do like the idea of people growing their own cannabis, I do the same. But I am generally reluctant to use cannabis from an unknown source (enter my later adolescent phase, haha). Case in point PGRs are really bad, there is a reason they are generally regulated in most countries with regards to produce. That being said, the market will saturate quickly, and this will be done via corporate routes. The market can only sustain so many 30-100 million rand grow ops, of which a few are already completed, and a couple more are underway. The government goes for massive return over a short period, not sustainable investment in SMEs over a longer period, generally speaking. This kind of model definitely doesn't invest in socio-economic sustainability, but rather flash profits, which (not to be cynical, just realistic) all too often disappears without a trace, and where there is a trace, little to no accountability. Sad to say, but the 'market' is already lost to those who historically have access, and the few newcomers that manage to squeeze in early.2 points

Considering what I have learned thus far, major players are definitely shaping policy by means of influence, or shear will power in the case of smaller entrepreneurs. It's a mixed bag, but only those that go at it early with everything they have and then some will likely get a sustainable share in the market, and then you have to keep a good game going, because competition is fierce. It's how policy/lobbying generally works, no matter what the phenomenon. If one considers the history of policy, power and smarts dictate no matter which economic system you observe.2 points

@greenkush Mentioned these to me a while back, however I believe you need to use the pressure compensator / regulator drippers and then connect that to the Netbow. When I tried the pressure compensating drippers previously I could not get enough pressure from my water pump for it to work, so you'd need a larger than average water pump I rate. Also you'd need to have it on a timer. Otherwise it looks great and possibly a cheaper option for bigger grows compared to watering systems like Blumats and Autopots - which I feel are perhaps more feasible for smaller grows.2 points

Ahhh this is a good plan forward. Less entry per gram and more growers. I see you are accepting entries... should one just enter and request that the strain be acceptable for your selection, have the strains been listed yet, I may have missed this?2 points

KmintZ clones have been taken! 15 in total. I have also cleaned up the KmintZ/ZxP plants and left between 3-4 solid branches from the tops. The internodal spacing is looking good on one of the KmintZ, I've taken the majority of the clones from this one. There are two KmintZ that seem to be more on the stretchy side. Lastly, I have done a final top feed with preflower nutes before turning the reservoir on over the coming weekend.1 point

GHE is actually TA, TA being the new name. Same stuff, but maybe they dont have a good 2 part for coco?1 point

Nice, thanks, I emailed them going to place an order next week and give them a try.1 point

Maybe I used it wrong, but my plants suffered defs constantly using the stuff, yellow, browning etc. I followed the instructions to a T. Eventually switched back to GHE and now use the bottles as paper weights for my clone domes.1 point

Two of the sponsors are bringing their test gear for the day. Green Smoke Room Seeds have a Gemmacert and Qure have a Sage Analytics Profiler. All entrants will be tested side by side. We will announce a strongest in show. Maybe a cool trophy too. They will be offering bud tests for the judges. Qure have offered to run full profiles for the 2023 cup, including terp analysis. This would take a bit more notice all round next timeand is certainly on my whiteboard. Potency was an abstract thing to judge at The Amber Cups, as the THC lines become very blurred when blazing or dabbing plenty. So yes... dimensions such as appearance, flavour/smell, burn, effect play very important roles when judging. Cannabis is 420% subjective and I respect that some opinions are held higher than others. The event is open to anyone who wants to judge. Everyone get's one vote. You coming?1 point

The growers have spoken and we have listened. Dropped the entrance to 25g. You can enter here https://thehighco.co.za/cape-town-cannabis-cup-application/ Will allow a few more entrants to keep the judges fueled. Here's some pics from The Continental Cannabis Cup a couple of years ago that inspired this event.1 point

Interesting research. Where the government is involved I'm sure all of us have plenty to say. I'll always take the opportunity to raise my insignificant opinions. I feel our governments approach or any other governments approach for that matter on cannabis is just too much of everything. They are burying the plant and tieing it up in legislation and red pink and any color tape they can find. This is not freeing the plant. Before 1922 there was zero law around this plant in south africa, and there is no reason why it can't go back to exactly that. Cannabis should be entirely removed from all written law.1 point
