Hoooozit guys. Thought I would share some final thoughts on my last grow. All the nugs that were exposed to direct light came out extremely dense and hard. Very happy with the outcome. I did however realize that I need to clean up even more. I came out with alot of fluff aswell. Have never experienced this kind of fluff. Underdeveloped nugs that look like leaves with trichome on it and that is it. So we learn. Drying was abit difficult with space. Did not expect so much but we managed to get them hanging with an average humidity just shy of 60%. We had big rains the first few days of harvest but I was not able to stretch the harvest longer than 10 days. Still came out very nice. The following are the numbers I got off the plants. I harvested each set of 4 plants under each light seperately to try get a better understanding of the two different lights and what product I get from it. I will name them "DIY" for the light I buildt and "KING" for the bought kingbrite light. DIY Prime Nugs: 312.7g Fluff: 353g Trim: 326g KING Prime Nugs: 437.4g Fluff: 268.2g Trim: 331g So as you can see from the numbers there is actually a huge difference between the lights in producing dense nugs. I have a feeling the kingbrite having red diodes is what makes the difference. I might actually buy a couple of Bloom booster lights from Kingbrite to supplement my DIY light. Will see. Through the weighing I just learnt what kind of cleaning up I am going to do in the future. Overall I am still happy and having 750g of proper prime nugs. Both batches were also trimmed with a trim bag and was also interesting to see what the bag dig with the fluff. I am defenitely aiming to get 1000g in the next harvest because getting 1g per watt would be very good with these LED lights. I would be over the moon with 1000g. (Just before anyone thinks I smoke kilos of weed, this gets shared between 3 people that are all heavy smokers ). Over all I am very happy with the harvest and how it came out. I give it a 10/10 for bag appeal. The flavour is nice and fruity, not a specific kind of fruit but like a bowl of fruit. In the flowering stages it reminded me of the smell when you walk into the smoothy section of a fruit shop. I love it. I didn't use a carbon filter this time simply because it was not the over powering smell I would get from other stanky strains. I enjoyed this strain so much that my next grow will be half of it and the other half Cheese donated by @John Stonedwell. Super excited for that grow. Will just add it to this diary. Unfortunately there might be a mistake that was made in the transplanting when I was not available and I think we might have the Cheese and Mango mixed under the scrog. Not a problem though. Will still count seperately. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed. Here is some nug porn.4 points

Evening @Naughty.Psychonaut 11 days into flower.. Had a hiccup after spraying Tenazole.. used a low dosage as recommended but plants did not take well to it at all. Cost me a two weeks extra veg for them to recover. Lesson learned. Anyhow, they seem to be over the worst of it. Pics at flip Some pics taken Saturday night after swapping the MH bulbs for HPS Planning on doing a big clean up and defol tomorrow night.4 points

Hey guys Just something to keep in mind. Some of us were not born in the times of the interweb and life is busy these days. Learning how to use these forums are as new as learning how to grow. Plus, I don't know about you guys but I find it takes a long time to type out something that I might need help on. If you have a struggling plant, you got to give the rundown on pot size, soil, nutes, ppm/ec, ph , light , fan, humidity ..... Soldiering on.... ✌2 points

What's up ouens. I can sit here and say I have wanted to do everyone a favour and skip the boring part of veg but to be really honest, I just wanted to make sure I do not have any fuck ups while posting a diary. I know it is part of the game and that is why we are here...... to learn. I had a bit of a fuckup on my first scrog grow so I was abit hesitant. I managed to isolate the problems which I will briefly discuss in this diary and ironed them out with a couple of minor changes. So here goes. Strain: Mango Sapphire by HSO Medium: Coco/Perlite Nutes: Calmag, GHE/TA TriPart and Ripen always fed at a PH of 6.0 Lights: 2x 480watt (DIY build and the other Kingbrite) 10 clones were taken and rooted for 2 weeks. Once they were done, they we moved into small 12cm pots, vegged out for 3 weeks and then only the best 8 would be transplanted to 20cm pots. Vegged for 3 weeks and then transplanted into 20Lt Fabric pots. When the plants were moved into their 20LT Fabric Forever homes, the net was lowered and the tucking began. Once the net was filled to about 100%, the lights were flipped. Day before flip Day 2 of Flower This is where my last mistake was made. Previously, when I flipped the plants into flower after filling the net, something went wrong. I have a slight suspicion the plants did not flip when I flipped and it felt like the stretch went on waaaaay too long before showing any pistils. I think the first bud sites were visible at day 20. This is very late. Even after soooo much defoliation there was still tons of growth coming up. I ended up having a shit ton of bud but everything was popcorn because there wasn't any place for the buds to fatten up. So how I solved it this time was to do a flip but make sure the plants would go into flower. The lights were switched off for about 30 hours and when they came into their first day of flower, I would keep them on an 11 hour on and 13 hour off cycle just to make sure nothing carries on vegging. This seemed to work very well. After day 2 a stretch was already visible and I could see this time it was on the money and that each site would stretch out into their own space. The ladies ended up stretching so nicely that I had to source an extra net very quickly to help support the buds. Luckily @John Stonedwell came to the rescue and donated a second net to the ladies which they were very happy for . The ladies are now on day 46 of flower and should be finshed by the week 8 mark which is in 10 days. They have been getting Ripen until now and soon they will have all the nutes removed with clean water to try get the plants to start fading and consuming the last bit of nutes that is left in them. They will only get clean PH 6.0 water from today until they are done. So far I am extremely happy with the progress. No hickups at all this time. I feel like this was a good grow and that there will be some very nice product coming out. It is smelling unreal in there. Not strong at all so I am not using a carbon filter this time. I would put it on the very sweet and fruity side. Can't wait to taste them. Thanks to all the guys on the forum that I have learnt from, spending hours observing every step they take to try immitate their grows has helped me learn and understand what is needed for a succesful grow. I look forward to sharing the last few updates into harvest and eventually a final report on the dried product. Thanks for watching.1 point

So I've been looking for something to use for my trimming coming up soon as I approach harvest. I've seen a product online called a "Trim Bin", imported product which is extremely overpriced in my opinion. I've been looking for a local alternative to no avail. This has lead me to thinking how easy it would be to make my own if I could just find the correct mesh. I've read that anything from 60-120 micron would be good to catch kief and stainless steel is a good "go-to". Why is no one selling these? Is it not worth the time and effort? What am I missing? And where the hell could 1 purchase said mesh/screen/filter?1 point

Hey @Naughty.Psychonaut All good bud, I'm just starting up and haven't really found my way around everything but I must say everybody has been awesome thus far. Always great feedback and starting to feel the brotherhood (and sisterhood) in the community. Made some good buds already. Peace ✌1 point

I remember seeing that name around yeah, hopefully all is well with the man! oh well, I guess you're right, I know a whole lot of growers and I am the only one in my friend group that uses the forum. one or two guys that are aware of the forum, but they never bothered with other peoples growing and or asking for information to each their own, they say! all good man, no pressure on updating or anything, I just wanted to check in and check up, the community likes to hear and see form the rest of the members! keep strong1 point

I find it the other way around. Using a dynavap I use waaay less herb to get goefed on than smoking a joint. Also found that once I got used to the dynavap, actually smoking amd burning nie just tastes like an ashtray. Where’s my terps In terms of vapes the mighty/crafty seems way ahead of most vapes. The da Vincis also seems great, haven’t tasted yet. But in terms of value for money nothing beats the Dynavap M Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I think I heard on cannabiz news desk, them saying that Haze club had got a date at the constitutional court to finally get an answer regarding their model and legitimacy of such, they said around June/July I think. Then they also commented that it being useful information or not is determined on how they plan to introduce this new recreation commercialization bombshell that has recently been dropped. Making them legit regardless. Something is coming, fingers crossed!1 point

I heard a similar group of guys got taken down in Durban recently. It appears if you are full-on just growing weed for people, somebody is going to have a problem. Although it seems that hydro stores and cafes who supply cannabis to individuals are being left alone for the most part. Kinda fucky, but this is the trend I'm seeing.1 point

From the years I've been here, it comes in waves. I have a mental list for certain people I'd like to see back, @Pat999 being one of them What usually happens is a surge of new guys come, some stick around and learn how to grow that dank dank, some will remain and pass on the knowledge and others will just bounce forever. Some of those that bounce will form offline groups and just work amongst themselves for the most part so that they get the support without exposing themselves at all online. The last super surge was in 2019 just after the Con Court announced we could grow freely at home. I think the next jump will be when they (hopefully) announce grow clubs to be legal.1 point

☺ oh stop it!! Thanks for the kind words brother! don't know if it's just me, but I see a lot less engagement on the site and I wana try call on some of the more recent threads to keep the activity pumping! also haven't seen any activity from some of the long term members that used to interact here on the daily, I just hope everyone is still doing fine and all in good health!1 point

Ja agreed. I have a Cloudious 9 vape which i bought for shits and giggles. Had it for almost 2 years and still going strong and used daily. Great value for money and easier on the lungs. But if i had to toke on the same amount in a joint i would get way more gooft. Not that i don't get gooft from the vape. The vape just provides a mellower, deeper gooft, if you know what i mean. Still dig my vape and having my own homegrown supply definitely helps loads. Always lekker to have a nice selection of smoking utensils, depending on what type of stoned that you're after on the given moment.1 point

Howzit, I own a cheap vape. Called a Vie. I is lekker to smoke on it once in a while. You go through way more herb using a vape. That is if you Have to buy and not growing it yourself. It is very different to smoking a joint or a bong. https://vapestore.co.za/portable-vaporizers/craft-plus-v2 apparently the best. The pax is also good1 point

So this diary has kinda come to an end. I harvested most of the plants last night, both Critical Banana look really nice. Will sample and inspect further once dry and trimmed and decide which pheno I will be keeping however so far I am very keen to run the Critical Banana again. The GG Wedding Mints improved a bit towards the end, I took some quick pics of each pheno. Will run them again and hopefully get better results, if they are not better than I will probably drop them from my rotation. I expected more from them. The In House Strains came out looking amazing and beautiful! Both the Bananium & Platinum Punch, such a rewarding strain to grow as the trim is easy and the buds sparkle nicely. Nice dense nugs. The one Zweet Inzanity ended up hermieing quite badly and pushing balls. The Citradelic Sunset came out alright, big, heavy bud with decent frost. This is a strain I have since dropped though. The one Crescendo was lacking frost and very unhappy, the other one is still in the tent as she went into flower 7 days after the others. The Banizzle and Pineapple Chem are also both in the tent still, giving them a but more time to mature. The Pineapple Chem actually split her stem while I was in the tent, the one cola flopped over. So I had to do some surgery with electrical tape. Yield looks as if it will be really good and frost does not look terrible, nowhere near the level of frost from the In House Genetics plants but a reasonable amount. I will try post some bud pics once some of the bud is dried and trimmed, especially of the GG Wedding Mints & Critical Banana. They were the 2 I was most excited for, perhaps more excited for the GG Wedding Mints but turns out the Critical Banana seemed to be the better plant this time around - although neither of mine had the nice colouring of the pheno I posted earlier in this thread.1 point

Finally I get to run the winning pheno. I have 11 of the PC12 mixed in with Divine Storm and Dirty Banana. We are now at 3 weeks 12/12. Just in time for the flower show to begin.1 point

When you start your regular seeds outdoors this time of year they will almost immediately start to flower. If you have a lot of regular seeds, this is a good time of year to start them outdoors in 1L pots if you simply want to hunt phenos. You can spot the males much earlier. We spotted these 6 females this morning, repotted and moved them to the tent to veg.1 point

What is up folks. So the plaas has come to harvest time. Today was the last day of flower (day 56) and the girls have been getting clean water up until now. Last watering was 2 days ago. They will have full darkness for the next 24 to 36 hours. I will then chop them down, and hang them up sometime tomorrow to start the drying process. The plan is to dry them for about 10 to 14 days depending on the weather etc. and then straight to cure. So far the fade isn't as much as I would have liked and I will probably start my clean waterings a little earlier next time. I did get a little bit of purple popping in the last couple of days of ripening.1 point

There's Hydroworks in Cape Town selling screens. I think they also sell different micron sheets to make your own.1 point
-
Found another place that sells the actual "Trim Bin", cheaper than elsewhere but still too damn high of a price https://www.rockandrolled.co.za/ I see they also have replacement screens coming in. That may even be an option, but interestingly those are only 220 micron. @Naughty.Psychonaut Thanks for the YouTube suggestions. I know Mr. Canuks stuff is great1 point
-
yeah that might be too fine, the picture I posted was just to give a visual representation of what I am talking about, if you click the link you'll see it takes you to the page with all the options from 32T all the way up to 120T. you can choose a less finer one, though I wouldn't say the 120T is too fine, you'll just have less contaminants fall through than with a less finer mesh, giving you higher quality resin head isolation. the ideal thing to do would be to get multiple different screens. don't know if you've seen any of mr.Canuks content on youtube? here is a good video for you to watch right now then I would also recommend checking out this guys videos on youtube, check his whole channel, you'll learn a lot about dry sifting and solventless hash from mark the bubble man. https://youtube.com/c/BCbubbleman1 point
-
@Naughty.Psychonaut Ah! Thanks for the input, dude . Definitely adds a few other options for me. I came across those round baking "sieves" last night and thought it could work. It was a cheaper alternative if I'm remembering correctly. The first option you have here, which you say you would go for, is down at 44 microns. That's super fine. Not too fine, maybe? I found the following site for the mesh, and seems like a good option to me: https://www.happyfish.co.za/products/30x20cm-stainless-steel-woven-wire-filtration-grill-sheet-filter-200-mesh?_pos=1&_sid=3b889bdb6&_ss=r&variant=39881602269368 200 mesh which is about 74 micron. 300x200mm is a decent enough size I'd say?1 point
-
@Martin7318 what's up bud a while ago I was looking at something similar, I wanted to dry sift some larf to make some hash, asked the question and got a couple options for you, https://peasysqueegee.com/?product_cat=screens&post_type=product&s=screen Then the next option would be to contact all your nearest local baking supply stores around you and ask if they can hook you up with this... If they don't have that cookie silkscreen they'll most likely have this.... - it's a baking sift, not a normal sift, this sift screen is way way finer than a normal sift, but this will still let a lot of plant material through - this might be the same stainless steel mesh they use for the "trim bins" last resort would be building your own, I looked at building my own silk screen, as you probably noticed, they're not cheap. Much better price than the 1.5K for a "trim bin". finding silk mesh is harder to do than I thought and what I did find was rolls of the stuff with prices way worse than just buying one of those premade screens with aluminium. what I did find in terms of a screen mesh you could use is this 30cm x 30cm screen with 200 threads per inch, very very very fine will do the job you looking to do, but again not cheap, at least you don't have to buy a whole roll of it. then comes the stretching and securing it onto your border. personally, I am saving up for a set of 3 of those screens in the first option.1 point
