  1. Lol you signed up with the grunterfish profile in Sept 2014!
  2. I’m finally getting back into the swing of things this year and I’ve been busy the last 2 weeks gathering ingredients and building my own living organic soil mix. My first attempt at an organic soil didn’t go well. I think I got my ratios all wrong so I eventually aborted it all I decided to ditch that recipe and base my new mix, for the most part, on a mix that’s quite popular in the states that I chose mainly due to its straight forward simplicity and its low number of ingredients. It’s by a guy called Clackamas Coot a.k.a LumperDawgz. Those are his nicks on some of the big forums on the web. Some will know of him. I’ve done a good bit of reading up on his mix and seen good results. Also found a dude running coot’s mix on Youtube whose plants came out great, he's got a tutorial on his mix which I followed very closely. Here's the video This is the original Clackamas Coot mix I based my mix on: "Equal parts of Sphagnum peat moss, some aeration deal (pumice, rice hulls, lava rock - whatever is sitting in the garage) and finally some mix of humus - my compost, worm castings some black leaf mold I bought from the local 'worm guy' To each 1 c.f. of this mix I add the following: 1/2 cup organic Neem meal 1/2 cup organic Kelp meal 1/2 cup Crab meal (or Crustacean meal when available - it has Shrimp meal with the Crab meal. It's a local product from the fisheries on the Oregon & Washington Coasts) * 4 cups of some minerals - rock dust After the plant is in the final container I top-dress with my worm castings at 2" or so and then I hit it with Aloe vera juice and Comfrey extract. Or Borage. Or Stinging Nettle. Or Horsetail ferns. Whatever is ready. The Rock Dust Recipe 4x - Glacial Rock Dust - Canadian Glacial (Gaia Green label) 1x - Bentonite - from the pottery supply store 1x - Oyster Shell Powder - the standard product from San Francisco Bay 1x - Basalt - from Redmond, Oregon (new product at Concentrates - about $18.00) ." So here’s my mix, it makes around 65L of soil. Some of the ingredients in coots mix aren’t attainable in SA so I have replaced those. My mix below is coots mix doubled so just halve the below mix if you need less soil. This is a test mix and has not been proven yet. I can’t vouch for it yet by any means Base Mix 20L Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss – A lot of growers favour this over coco for multiple reasons. Unfortunately it’s quite expensive here, got it for R60 / 15L at the local Mica so I will probably just use coco next time 20L Perlite – we don’t have lava rock, rice hulls or pumice available in SA 15L Worm Castings – sourced from a local worm farm called Davley Organics 5L Culterra Compost 2L Culterra Topsoil Amendments 1 Cup Kelp meal 1 Cup Flaxseed Meal - replaces neem seed meal which is not available in SA. Flax meal has a NPK of 6-1-1, similar to neem meal’s 6-1-2 1 Cup Shrimp/Prawn Meal – It’s not available in SA but easy to make at home. Prawn shell is easier to find than crab – there are many different soil recipes out there, some are just variants of the more popular ones, but almost all of them contain crustacean meal. It’s a source of N, calcium and phosphorous. Plus it’s rich in chitin which boosts a plants immune system and stimulates microbial growth and activity 4 cups Basalt (Turbo Grow) 1 Cup Soft Rock Phosphate – not in coots mix but a large number of other recipes 2 Cups gypsum 1 cup Dolomite Lime – Used in place of oyster flour not available in SA For those who prefer a visual recipe, here we go... First I start off with my Base Mix First in goes 20L of Sphagnum peat moss Then 15L of Eartworm castings Then 20L of Perlite and 5L of Compost I mixed that up a bit and added 2L of Topsoil Then gave it a good mix with my hands, you'll end up with a base mix that looks like this Now its time to add those Amendments I added the following: 1 Cup of Kelp Meal 1 cup of Flax Meal 4 cups of Basalt 2 cups of Gypsum 1 cup of shrimp meal - I couldn't make up 1 cup of meal with the shells I had this time unfortunately, ended up with about 3/5 of a cup 1 cup of soft rock phosphate That's all the amendments, now give it a good mix with your hands or however you prefer to mix all the ingredients together. Add some water to moisten the mix, don't add too much water as you don't want it too wet. Your mix will look like below Finally I added some worms to the mix to keep it more "alive" and help process some of the amendments ....and that's it. Now I let it sit for 1 month and then I'll put it to use. Got 2 seedlings at the moment which will eventually go into this soil Will keep you guys posted

    My Current Grow

Sorry Thatoneguy, you're the 2nd guy to report this and it is a bug, it has something to do with the height of the images being too much, but there are no such restrictions set in place so I will try my best to get it fixed. Will get back to you on this edit: when you have a chance please try again with one of the photos that flipped. Just to test
  6. Autoflowers have their specific benefits and can be beneficial for the very scenario you're asking about. I'm sure 2 successive grows will be possible if executed correctly and its worth giving it a shot. Start your first grow in September an if that works why not move onto the 2nd grow. Auto's don't make sense to me with indoor growing but they make a lot more sense when growing outdoors
  7. You're still gonna see a lot more mass develop on those buds. You've done well to get that size out of an auto that's the beauty of the sun I guess You don't need to flush any time soon, still a few more weeks to go. Flush her a week or even 2 weeks before the day of harvest. Flushing is still a hotly contested topic P.S I moved this topic to the MarijuanaLogs board
  8. http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/dagga-farming-few-will-be-able-to-fulfil-requirements-20170307 R21 800-00 for a licence to grow ... eish
  9. Are you able to give us a pic of the filter? As far as I know you should be able to change out the carbon pellets...
  10. Agreed. Just a small example is the guideline in the attached image. I'm sure the majority of the growers in this country who are capable of producing medical grade weed are users themselves. Will the MCC constitute daily or frequent use of cannabis as a drug addiction? Very likely yes. Then there's the drug tests which pretty much cuts us out right there, if cannabis will still be classified as an illicit drug then that's that, unless you're willing to give up your self medication to medicate others. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see anything about patients being able to grow their own medical bud. Huge amount of money to be saved if patients can grow their own I think we'll still have a substantial underground medical cannabis movement in this country like we have now, even when the legal industry hits full swing. All we can do is wait on the High Court Dagga case verdict
  11. lol dude sorry to read about your frustrations. It can be tricky posting on forums as they're not as simplified as social networks are I fixed your link so your pic is showing now. In future, on photobucket, copy and paste the share link in the IMG box that you can see in the pic below edit: also when attaching pics to posts make sure they are fully uploaded before you submit the post
  12. I haven't had a proper read of the document yet but I strongly urge anyone wanting to apply for cultivation to be very cautious about doing so, in fact I would only suggest it if you are not currently growing or intend to grow in the near distant future. Not sure if there is a disclaimer on the said document but if there isn't, who knows where your details will end up...
  13. So the MCC have published their proposed guidelines. Have a read Here's the link http://www.mccza.com/documents/84a71af62.44_Cannabis_growth_Feb2017_v1_for_comment.pdf

  17. As mentioned, I think the obvious concern on all our minds will be whether big pharma runs away with this from the get go. I really hope I'm wrong but I can see our government selling out faster than you can say Zupta I think its gonna be really hard for one man micro businesses to claim a stake in such an industry but I would like to see something along the lines of what they have in the states.... dispensaries that grow their own bud and sell it to their patients, properly regulated of course seeing as that's something we won't get away from, but they must be independent. So basically I'd like to know if a dispensary system is on the cards or not? What will be their criteria for anyone applying to cultivate cannabis for the medical industry? How does one disclose their experience cultivating cannabis without the risk of ending up behind bars?
  18. http://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/medicinal-cannabis-gets-the-go-ahead-7842750 Cape Town - The government has given the green light for the manufacture of cannabis for medicinal use – with the IFP hailing it a “major victory” and tribute to its late MP, Mario Oriani-Ambrosini who fought for the legalisation of the drug. IFP MP Narend Singh said a letter sent to him by the Medical Control Council’s working group on cannabis – and seen by The Mercury – indicated it would publish its proposed guidelines on cannabis production for medicinal use following its presentation to the council last week. “This is a major breakthrough and fantastic news for freedom of choice,” said Singh. “Mario had fought tirelessly for this and although he proposed cannabis beyond medicinal use to also include it for recreational use, we agreed to withdraw every clause relating to non-medicinal use in our efforts to ensure it becomes legal." “Thousands of patients are already using cannabis oil, which comes at a premium price, and we wanted it to be made freely accessible so that the patient going to Addington or any other state hospital can request this without the exorbitant costs associated. Patients must have the freedom of choice,” said Singh. Ambrosini placed the debate over cannabis use in the spotlight in Parliament in 2014, making a direct, impassioned plea to President Jacob Zuma to decriminalise its use. He lost his battle with lung cancer six months later. The current framework allows for use of cannabis for medicinal purposes, but under strict regulations which include requesting permission from the Medical Control Council for use in certain exceptional circumstances by registered medical practitioners. Patients may also only use it under supervision. The guidelines to be published will deal with how, specifically, the drug can be produced for medical use. South Africa’s Anti-Drug Alliance said public and professional awareness needed to be improved around the issue. “Health practitioners, doctors specifically, have not been educated or trained on cannabis as a treatment alternative. They need massive education once production becomes legal. ‘‘They need to unlearn a lot of the negative myths around cannabis if patients’ right to cannabis can be fully supported by health professionals,” said the organisation’s Quintin van Kerken. Singh agreed, warning that the production of cannabis could be monopolised if not handled correctly. “Production must be aimed at making it a medicinal, affordable drug for those who need it. It should not be an exclusive drug of choice for those who have the money. That is what we are arguing for.” Cannabis oil use has fanned international debate in medical circles, with advocates of medicinal cannabis claiming its effectiveness in pain management and treatment of diseases including cancer, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. 25. What exactly do you mean by "chronic strain"? "Chronic" is just a general term for A grade weed, usually indoor. I see on the net that there is a strain called chronic but it's probably not what you've got in mind. Probably not that great I remember back in my school days hearing about "joburg chronic", which was just referring to indoor weed, which was non-existent in my hometown
