  1. A phenotype is a variable expression within a strain. While a strain is an expression of the genotype. So when I'm pheno hunting, I'm looking for the best phenotype in that population to carry the genes to the next generation.
  2. Pheno hunting bru. Pheno hunting.
  3. Was a beautiful morning for a farm visit. My chocos have a great head start for the season and I'm sure are going to turn into trees. There are way more females than anticipated buy that's not a bad thing now is it. All the females are strong but there are a few that already stand out. These are about 3-4 weeks in flower, and quite probably will start revegging soon. There is another batch of 100 being planted now for the summer in case they decide to finish up.
  4. Bru you dont need a lot of space to breed. Granted pheno hunting takes way more time, but if you have space for a male and female, you can breed. If you do find a line that produces good offspring, there are many growers out there that will help you pheno hunt.
  5. Joh. 28 years ago I had my first joint at age 12, on and off through high school, and then my 20s came..They were RUFF..Now that's a story on it's own though... Ffwd to 2010 and I end up in a bike accident that practically destroys my left foot. Had a mate visit me once a week for the 6 months I spent bed ridden, and he always bought along a bankie for me for the pain. Started growing from there and the rest is going to go up in smoke.
  6. A little over 4 weeks old. The bushy dense genes of the choco are pulling through. The gelato mom, was stretchy, with a low yield. So hoping the yield genes also carry.
  7. Cooked rice or dry? Wonder what adding cooked whole grains such as barley would do ito fodder for the herd I add quite a lot of the cheapest dog pellets to my soils. Contains 60% plus of maize as filler. Great food source for the phosphorus freeing fungi for flowering.
  8. When I first started mixing my soils, I too layered, sometimes still do. My soil mix on here was inspired by subcools soil. I aim as far as possible with my growing to not need to fertilize as often as with less alive soil. I do it because my soil mix is much hotter than any commercially available soil, and young root systems do have a hard time in it. It's going to come down to how long you "cook" the soil for, and what you put in it. My soil at 2 months is way hot. 4 months better, 6 months even better.
  9. Increasing the size of the herd will get you results. Biodyne, explogrow, other microbe innoculants will do this. Feed that microherd mollasses and other sugars and carbohydrates(teas) to keep them pumping in overdrive. The plant is not necessarily going to uptake more than it needs though.
  10. Well, I'm not too sure on this, but plants dont absorb enzymes from the soil, but produce all the proteins they need internally. Plant roots readily supply the soil with sugars so perhaps they would leech enzymes too. Microbes in the soil make use of enzymes to chelate ions, making them absorbable by the plant. Most of these enzymes are created by the microbes as their means of digesting the organic matter. So what are you trying to do, flood the medium with enzymes, or get the microbes to produce more of them?
  11. Totemic

    Mildew.

That's new thread material bru. Put one up.
  12. Youd need to get them from a place such as chemlabsupplies.co.za Youll have to buy their minimum quantities so it's going to set you back at least R1k. 50g Silver Nitrate AR 500g Sodium Thiosulphate Pentahydrate
  13. That's my soil mix. By no means a rigid recipe either. Many items can be replaced by other similiar items. The reason all the ingredients are in there is to grow cannabis.
  14. STS really is the best method. You only need to spray a plant once every 5 days and only about 4 times. Store bought colloidal silver solutions are too weak. You need a colloidal solution of about 30-40ppm. But you'll have to spray every day, with no guaranteed results. Youd need to make it yourself using DC electrolysis with both the anode and cathode needing to be made from .999 fine silver. Just use STS.
  15. Well. Yes. And no. Taking it deeper into the alles that trigger hermaphodism is what you are selecting out with the stress testing you refer too. Doing it on an F1 generation seems a moot point though. The very nature of an F1 generation will get you the same results, the same alles you are checking for will be either dominant or recessive. Ie. They will all herm under similar stress, or they wont. This stress testing gives better selection results after the recombination event of crossing for an F2.
  16. You could pretty much substitute any high CBD strain, and get the same results imo. Any 10:1 to 40:1 would do.
  17. Sad reality...after a short time trying to work with local genetics, I gave up, and started importing genetics to work with.
  18. Then there were 5. Transplanted to 5l. Three of them have gone outside. They not liking the indoor environment, and have been battling since germination. Looks to be solid Indica pulling through.
  19. Outdoors they aren't noticed much as there are plenty of predators that keep them in check plus everything else nature throws at them. Indoors with no predators + the fungus rich soils we use they breed like crazy.
  20. Give them names...the gnats that is. Karba dust, sticky strips, neem soil drench if you must. I dont personally worry about them as I grow in organics and they are always around.
  21. Every time you get the urge to water, tell yourself one more day. Pick the pot up every day until it feels 90% lighter than wet. It can get bone dry and feather light.
  22. Gorgeous canopy bru. Lekker to see the comeback after your rough ride.
  23. I'd also gladly add any cuts I have to this. I dont keep moms too long. I'm cycling through too many plants, and if I had to keep a cut of each, I'd be spending all day maintaining a veg forest. Just because a plant isnt a keeper for me in terms of breeding, doesn't mean it's a crappy plant. So I'll have clones randomly as time goes.
