  1. Thanks, and the clawing would be a sign of...? The TBK does seem to be clawing a bit but they were just about to go into the dark phase (18/6 schedule). I’ve noticed that she looks a lot better at the start of the light phase than at the end, dunno if the 600w HPS is a bit too strong at this stage.
  2. Sorry for the late update! It’s been about 3.5 weeks since I’ve dropped the seeds in some water and I think they’re doing well. The ASD is growing quite a bit slower than the TBK, even taking the day later germination into account. TBK (right) was transplanted 5 days ago, ASD (left) two days ago. Still no nutes as they don’t seem to need it yet but let me know if I’m missing something.
  3. Hi all, Just need a quick opinion on whether I need to lawyer up on a non-420 related matter. Feel free to DM me if you don’t want to blurt out your occupation here. Thanks!
  4. I bubble my tap water to let the chlorine evaporate but that’s it, I’d rather keep it as simple as possible for as long as possible. Would be interesting to hear if @420SA experienced the same thing with his ASD?
  5. Weekly update nr 2: Yesterday was exactly 2 weeks since I started soaking these seeds, I think they’re doing well. They haven’t received any nutes yet, just AACT on every second watering. I think I might be slightly under watering them but I’ve read that under watering is better than over watering. I wait till the pot is REALLY light before watering again. First watering was done when I transplanted the Jiffy Pellets, second was 5 days after that and the latest one (this morning) was 4 days. The plan is to wait until they reach that same level of “lightness” within 24hrs before transplanting to a larger pot. My bottom leaves are doing a funny curly thing, almost like a propeller, where it seems to drop the one side and lift the other. Pic included for clarity. Does anybody have some advice or reason for this? Fan too strong? It started with the Three Blue Kings but the Amherst Sour Diesel soon followed
  6. @PsyCLown Hi PsyClown, I’m in PTA so similar environment. My germination process (100% success (ie 2 out of 2 )): I soaked my seeds for twelve hours, thereafter I planted them in Jiffy Pellets with a humidity dome and removed the dome as soon as they sprouted. I kept the pellets moist at all times by placing them in a pot tray with a bit of water once a day for about two minutes. The pellet soaks up however much water it needs. Once the first roots poked out the bottom they got transplanted into small pots. That’s pretty much where I am now and they seem to be doing well.
  7. I haven’t used fabric pots yet but the concept is very similar to soil blocks (google Elliot Coleman - Soil blocks), which I have used and that really does provide a benefit over plastic trays/pots. The main thing that every soil block user will tell you, that I haven’t seen or read anywhere concerning airpots, is that the pot/block needs to be raised off of whatever surface it’s standing on so you get airflow underneath as well. Think wire mesh etc. The first root that a plant shoots out goes straight down, when it reaches the bottom of the plastic pot/fabric pot standing on the ground it starts circling or whatever. When it reaches the bottom of a soil block/raised fabric pot it gets air pruned and encourages the growth of secondary roots so you get a nice dense rootball. I would imagine a fabric pot on a solid surface would be pretty much the same as a plastic pot, only the secondary side roots get pruned and the benefit would probably be negligible.
  8. I think it might be a bit thinner than the culterra ones but I’ve had it in my garden for almost two years now and it’s still holding up well. Granted the pots will be handled a lot more, I was thinking of adding a bit of strapping just to reinforce it a bit but at that price I don’t mind making new bags every two years.
  9. If you’re in Gauteng look up Damax plastics. They sell 10m rolls for R50-R60. I was planning on doing exactly this, just haven’t gotten around to it yet.
  10. At what ratios? Might start using this for my vegetables, Jiffy pellets aren’t feasible at that scale.
  11. Interesting post about this topic: https://fieldsofgreenforall.org.za/do-you-still-want-a-license-to-grow-cannabis/ Could you please provide info on these people allowed to export? I haven’t heard about this.
  12. Weekly update nr 1: I think everything is looking good but let me know if it isn’t Three Blue Kings (TBK) sprouted on Sunday morning so that’s three days after being planted in the Jiffy pellet. Monday morning I noticed a root poking out the bottom (this stuff grows FAST). Initially I wanted to keep it in the Jiffy pellet for a bit to let it air prune the roots (read up on Elliot Coleman and soil blocks if you think I’m crazy) but decided against it. This is my first grow and I’d rather keep it simple. I filled my first pot with Freedom Farms soil and watered it with a very simple AACT (homemade wormcastings, homemade fungal dominated compost and blackstrap molasses brewed for 24h). I let it stand for the day and planted the Jiffy pellet with a teaspoon of Micoroot on Monday evening. Watered in with bubbled water and haven’t watered since. Exact same process with the Amherst Sour Diesel but everything just happened one day later. Plants are currently sitting under 600w HPS (I’ve decided against MH for now due to budget constraints, I know it’s not optimal but it’ll have to do) on an 18/6 schedule. Light is literally as high up as it can go at the moment (about 1.5m from plants). Question: 1. At what point can I lower the light? Is it necessary to lower the light at all? TBK on the left, ASD on the right.
  13. Why he got it is a long story but when I was in about standard 4 (95-96’ish) my dad got a non-runner from my uncle. We towed it to our house, parked it and then nothing happened. St 8 I told my dad I want the Mini. He said sure, but you’re going to have to fix it yourself and he bought me a Haynes Workshop Manual. I spent my St8 and St9 school holidays completely rebuilding it. Had it until 2008... I sometimes drove it, most of the time I was fixing it I didn’t have space for it at my place since I had to buy a “more reliable” (read: less fun) car for work so it stayed at my parents place until they moved and I, very reluctantly, had to sell it. I miss my Mini. There’s a Mini Workshop in Benoni who specializes in 16v conversions and there’s a guy around here who has a Mazda Rotary engine Mini (Mazda RX8 engine). That’s just lunacy.
  14. Man, I had a 1275 in a Mini Mayfair (the one with the round lights), you don’t need more power than that. Just avoid straight roads That thing handles like a go-cart, but you don’t need to wear a helmet. One day I’ll have one again.
  15. Excuses excuses. https://www.honeybunch.co.za/products/sew-on-labels
  16. No stickers? Should be a good experiment, following.
  17. Just because someone is paying taxes doesn’t make it legal. All the good criminals pay taxes, well, all the good criminals since Al Capone.
  18. The majority of the light coming through now is: 1. Below the doors where I still need to add “trim”. 2. Between the doors and the side panels is a slight gap caused by the hinges, I still need to add “weatherproofing?” (That foam stuff that comes on a roll with a sticky side). I’ll also add that around the door frame for a tighter seal against the “trim”. 3. Some pop rivets that pulled through, top and bottom where side panels joins floor/ceiling and where the door paneling is attached - aluminum tape. 4. I have no idea how to make the passive intakes light proof, but I don’t think it’s going to be too much of an issue.
  19. Thanks, I think it should work. Exhaust is on the roof (6inch, 240m3/h - works out to all the air inside replaced every 30 seconds), venting outside so not in the same room. Passive intakes will be located on the side panel that you see when the doors are open (4 x (15cm x 15cm) holes, obviously as close to the bottom as possible), this gives me an intake:exhaust ratio of 5:1 which I believe is optimal? That side there’s about 20cm between the cabinet and a wall so that’s the side I’m the least worried about light getting in/out.
  20. Doors are on, still need to do some light proofing
  21. They had the Amherst Sour Diesel I wanted for R100 less than Trophy Seeds but with shipping it was R50 more (their shipping was R250 vs R100 from Trophy Seeds).
  22. Got some work done, baby is sleeping so I can’t cut the paneling for the doors. That’ll have to wait for the weekend.
  23. That’s one of the reasons I chose her, apparently even when you f it up you’ll still get an average yield Three Blue Kings I got because I initially ordered 5 ASD but they made a mistake on their website and only had a 3 pack in stock. When they let me know I just looked for the one with the biggest expected yield.
