  1. @Kgrows Do you have any specific strains in mind, the one I have seen around and researched a bit, is CannaTonic, I have never grown or blazed it. It is a cross between MK-Ultra and G13-Haze. @Trailblazer420 That is a strain I have not seen in a while, used to be a killer cut in London grown by some SA dudes, very nice bud indeed! Barneys farm and 710Genetics stock the feminized version only with BCBud depot stocking some regulars. Tthis year I will be gooing some breeder boxes similiar to the tamato breeding system, just need to employ the correct size mesh to keep pollen inside and unwanted pollen outside. Can do a few strains for testers like this, now just need to go and hit the casino.
  2. @PsyCLown most of the feminized seed people buy have a good chance to go hermie if you give them enough stress. That is also true for any Cannabis plant, however a regular seed from a hybrid or landrace will be able to withstand more stress, even need some chemicals applied to induce male flowers on the female plants. There are quite a few methods breeders use to produce female only seeds. In the end this will all strengthen the hermie trait (just my opinion) in that particular strain. Cookies is a good example of too many s1 crosses. It makes the trait more dominant instead of recessive. EDIT: About mutants, they are usually sought afterin breeding projects for higher thc, bigger buds, things like that, having more chromosomes than a normal cannabis plant. AKA Polyploid
  3. We were assuming that all Chlorine drops the PH of water, not sure if our municipalities are all using ClO2, because it does not alter taste and odor of the water. This only stays in the water supply for a day perhaps. Where i live the water smell like that of a swimming pool. Rand Water randwater.co.za/CorporateResponsibility/WWE/Pages/tapwater.aspx CHLORINATION Even after the water has been filtered it still contains some germs. In order to kill these germs, chlorine gas is bubbled through the water. This is called chlorination. WATER SUPPLY This clean water is then pumped through underground pipes to booster pumping stations. As the chlorine is only effective for 6 - 8 hours it is necessary to add chloramine (chlorine & ammonia) to kill any other germs that might get into the water. From the booster pumping stations the water is pumped into reservoirs and then sold to the various municipalities that supply homes, schools, businesses and factories with clean healthy water.
  4. You can create mother plants from clones, however some growers prefer to keep their mother plant that was grown from seed. Pollen that comes from a male flower on a female plant will have no male chromosomes and will produce female offspring. The next generations will become hermaphrodite a lot easier if plants get stressed, etc.
  5. Liquid chlorine will raise the pH more than powder chlorine. Either muriatic acid or sodium bisulfate can be used to neutralize these alkaline compounds. The pHincreases caused by either liquid or powder chlorine are usually not as great as the drop caused by chlorine gas. In some cases no pH adjustment may be needed. source - gslabs.com/pools_pH.html
  6. @DeeJay that is correct, the more nutrients in the mixture the higher the ppm will be, which on the nutriplex charts is given in EC. Here is a pretty good explanation about EC to PPM - manicbotanix.com/ec-to-ppm-conversion-chart-2/ The best is usually to follow the instructions on your Nutrients as they have done all the testing. After mixing the nutes (according to your plants growth phase), I would then measure the EC/ppm. I would also start a new mix with ph adjusted as plants have used some nutrients, etc. I would assume that mixing according to these (or the interactive one supplied on their site) your ppm/EC should be around where they suggest, if not you can up the dosage, just remember to keep it in ratio. I would also wait for some experienced hydro growers to either confirm or correct all this as I am not currently growing hydro, used to back in the day. All these nutrients are pretty new to me.
  7. I found the Nutriplex info, looking at this chart your ppm could even be a bit too low. I am sure the Hydro growers on the forum will sort this out quickly!
  8. I am not currently growing hydro, but this is spot on, hydro likes being below 6. Looking at the plants, to me it looks like some nutrient burn (but not sure if its possible at 320ppm) as well as possible deficiencies (could be PH related). Does the nutrients contain macro/micro elements? Do the roots look healthy? White and fuzzy or brown and gooey? This system could supply water to the base of the plants via a drip irrigation or something similar.
  9. I would say PH down vir dood. You should probably also take a look at the ppm of the tap-water if possible, sound brackish. Living in a few different places over years I have come to think that sometimes our municipalities tend to "nuke" the water supply if things get out of hand, pathogens are found, or whatever health concern. Taking a shower and smelling like you just got out of a swimming pool is usually a sign that the supply has been "nuked" (for lack of a better word). This usually goes away in about a week or so. Another experiment you can try is to leave a bucket of tap water bubbling (or just standing in sunlight) for 24 hr to 48 hr. Take ph readings and ppm again to compare, if there is a significant change it would mean the "nuking" situation. If PH is not changing I would guess it is the brackish situation. My 2 cents, all just from experience, anybody can feel free to correct me.
  10. I just finished ordering some new studs and girls for my next breeding projects, some new lines and some to pimp up existing crosses i have had the pleasure of working with. It is not always easy deciding which way to go selecting genetics, seed banks, new strains, old proven classics, etc. This got me thinking, what strains would you guys and gals like to see available here on the forum as tester seeds (or breeding stock)?
  11. @PsyCLown This would be for dried product, the bags/jars also need to get defrosted completely before they get opened or the buds will really crumble. Wet product can also be frozen for make live resin extracts and so on. Packing is a personal matter in many ways, I just use oldschool paperbags to avoid trich sticking on plastic. You could probably add a boveda pack, cant see the harm in it. Freezing Cannabis make the product quite brittle, but in my experience if defrosted properly it works for me. There is a lot of different info about this, the question was what to do with tooo many flowers. Freezing is not ideal but it does the job when needed that is for sure. Like mentioned at the top, this would be a COMPLETELY CURED PRODUCT. Lower temperatures like that of a freezer will slow down if not halt completely the decarboxylation process, leading to less potent cannabis over time.
  12. Vacuum seal or jar flowers, kief, extracts, etc and store them in a deep-freezer. Bud can last for years like this. Cannabis can also be canned and stored for long periods of time, just keep temps of storage low.
  13. Looking good @Slartibarfast she seems to be loving the low stress training how is the growth rate now, seems to be going well since the previous pictures.
  14. Welcome to the 420SA forum, no need to feel silly, nobody was born walking let alone running. I have one question, does it have to hydro? In my experience hydroponics has quite a steep learning curve as to just growing some weed in a good soil mix under lights. The equipment is also usually a little bit more expensive when going hydro. This depends a lot from person to person as what works for one grower might not work for another grower, personally I am not too technically minded so the hydro equipment is not always my first choice, I also prefer a bud from organic soil to smoke. With that said, It is a lot easier to get started with hydro than it used to be, a lot of good suppliers making equipment and nutrients more available in SA. There are good hydro growers here on the forum that can will certainly help.
  15. Introduce yourself here, this is the thread where local breeders/growers can get to know each other.

  18. Breeding Cannabis at home as a hobby (or more seriously) is now easier than ever before, thanks to the pioneers that have been tirelessly breeding (and preserving) countless of generations since the early 80's in Holland, US and other parts of the world. We as hobbyists can now start with proven genetics and try to develop new, or preserve certain traits/effects that the Cannabis flowers posses. Feel free to ask questions or share your experiences/resources. 19. These two pretty ladies are in line to become mother plants. The seeds came from a very special Blueberry Kush (F2 generation) that popped up in our grow this year. This specific plant had all the traits of the original stock that came from Cali, on the plant, the buds, and when smoked. I thought I would enter these babies as this strain is responsible for helping (in his words "cured") a few terminally ill friends. AKA - Guff's Meds

Awesome @Doug , I must say the Sativa flowering times are getting super fast, 60 - 75 days flowering, I see Leafly has it listed as a pure sativa. Must have some indica in it though from the Skunk #1 i think. This review of Lemon Pie on Leafly. Lol "This is good stuff. Lately my tolerance has been through the roof but this one had me feeling exremely happy and incredibly horny. Slight citrus flavor with some sweetness but it's kinda tough to nail down. It'd be wonderful if this one stayed around here for a while because I'd definitely buy it again when I run out which looks like that'll be real soon because this is really good."
  23. Eish ja smellin like leaves is not good. From the pictures the sickly plant looks like it could have experienced some lockout, massive difference between the plants. I have no idea to be honest, not sure if it is a genetic thing or like you say, a sickly plant. You could email Dutch Passion with the pictures and ask them for their opinion. I'm sure some members here at 420SA will know the cause, did you grow in coco mix with nutes? I saw on another thread that the guys advise a runoff of about 5.8 - 6.0 if i remember correctly, for Coco/perlie mixes.

High and welcome to the 420SA forum @Doug Picture of the Sour D looks super goood, how is that Lemon Pie, never had the pleasure of tasting it yet! Blessings
  25. Very interesting @BosKoning , it could possibly be a genetic thing, more picture would be cool, did the sickly plant continue to create leaves like this? When breeding Blueberry, some growers say that a person must look for the "mutant", variegated or deformed leaves. These plants usually have terrible yield, but serious tastes and effects. I still find it hard to select plants with "mutant" traits for breeding stock. How is the aroma and flavor difference between the two plants? Any difference in the high? This is all assuming the growing conditions are good and there is no "hot soil", as that can also cause leaves to deform. This is just my opinion, most likely a bit off base!
