  1. So thought this would be a nice poll to do, something the GF and I were discussing actually. We tend to get munchies almost every time we smoke.
  2. Yeah I do, I feel it works well and that a lot of South Africans can relate to it. Our local market differs compared to a lot of other markets. Precisely! I would not be surprised if it was just made up to try and sound cool and add appeal to the bud being sold / traded / smoked. Before i started growing, I would notice that I would get a nice list of strains and some names really just seemed made up, order a variety and without a doubt the differences were minimal to none. Probably the same strain, just given a different name to give the illusion of choice and try create want based on the meaning / desire some strains have. The way in which strains are named, it plays a big role in the decision to purchase the strain or not - especially when you only get a picture (maybe) and a description (which is always appealing). If you are someone who likes flapjacks for example, a strain with the word flapjacks in it could seem very appealing in the hopes that there may be some relation to flapjacks but chances are there is not. Gorilla Glue #4 is a great example, super popular and you saw it being mentioned everywhere and soo many breeders had a GG4 strain or something mixed with it. Chances are majority of those breeders never even got a cut of the original GG4. Marketing works, brands sell - when it comes to weed a strain name alone can have a massive effect and hold a lot of power. In House Genetics kinda hit gold in a way with some of their super frosty strains and I feel for a lot of people they have become the go to breeder if you want frost. On Instagram and other social media places, you cannot smell or taste terps or measure potency. You get a picture, the trichomes / frost can be seen in a picture and it sure does look good. It creates desire and want as it is not very common, yet at least, most beginner growers end up buying cheaper EU genetics and I have yet to see any of those plants come close to the frost Sugarcane puts out. I feel most, if not all growers, at some point want to grow a super frosty strain. Even if it is just once off. If you are someone who buys weed, once again samples aren't really much of a thing without you first buying it. You often buy based on names and/or looks and frost looks good. Simple as that. So whether OG is Original or Ocean Grown, how much does it actually matter? How true does it need to be? What difference is it going to make? It is an interesting topic and leads to some good discussions though Whether we will ever know the truth behind the meaning, I am doubtful. Too much conflicting information and who do you choose to believe at the end of the day?
  3. Baking powder? Do not you mean bicarb of soda / baking soda? Although baking powder seems to be bicarb and a weak acid. Bicarb being a base though.
  4. Geez, this thread guys. @DamDave I started a grow diary a while back where I used some STS (Silver Thiosulfate Solution) - a combination of Silver Nitrate and Sodium Thiosulfate. It works really well and is easy to use. As Prom said, once you spray some on the plant, you gotta toss the plant and cannot consume anything from the plant. OG and it's meaning... Well we still see it now a days I feel, people calling whatever bud they have a specific strain as it sells and it is what people want. People buying a Levi shirt for a couple hundred bucks compared to a cheaper one from Woolies which does not have a brand name on it. Brands sell, the fact we see soo many BMW 116i and 118i is further proof of this. Kak cars and terrible engines, but they are popular as it is a BMW and more affordable compared to some of the better BMW's which have better engines. The name became popular, make up some BS and call it whatever and if it catches on good for you. Your strain, whatever it is, is now in demand as you are referring to it as a more popular strain. Perhaps this played a role in the name and the confusion?
  5. Light proof is a bit difficult, but panty hose could work (a few layers). Would probably be one of the easier options.
  6. I have been using aq sf for my grow and spray it as a preventative and so far so good. I also have some sulphur for just incase, but would prefer not to use it during flower, or at least only use it during early flower before the bud has formed. Milk works alright as a temporary solution, like if you get it late in flower - I'd be happy to spray milk to keep the PM at bay while the trichs mature so I can harvest. Would be keen to try some Seranade, but not available locally and have struggled to find stock overseas to import. @Chris Jay if the product works and works well, awesome. If it is safe to use during flower with little to no negative side effects, even better and has lots of potential for sure!
  7. It has always been like this, as long as it is a picture your took and not one from the internet and provided you have not entered into any previous SOTM, you can use it. So if it's a plant you grew 2 years ago and the picture has not been used, go for it and enter it!
  8. Oh man! This is the theme people love to post pictures of, I expect loads of entries this time around Good luck to everyone and may the best budshot win!
  9. I think a lot can be tied back to Grateful Dead concerts, lol.
  10. I did not know this, very interesting indeed. Ocean Grown.
  11. To help keep the seedling up, you could use some twist ties, paper clip or even toothpicks to help support it. They can all be stuck in the coco and then positioned so that the seedling leans against that and is not on the floor. Hopefully she pulls through and survives, but being an auto any stunting can lead to decreased yield. Photoperiods are generally better for beginners to start with - if there is a mistake or two, you have time to correct it before flowering the plant and can still obtain a decent yield.
  12. Yeah, when growing from seed it is always a lucky packet. Could be one perhaps did not develop as quickly as others and cannot handle the extra nutes. These are things you pick up on overtime and adjust accordingly, use the charts to start with and once you have a better grasp, can start to adjust the ml/L quantity according to the size of the plants and so forth.
  13. I have never used the builders coco, could be something iffy with that coco. Did you buffer it? Rinse it after buffering it? It may be worthwhile getting some explogro or trichoderma to use when planting the seed, these can help prevent damping off and some other diseases. I have never killed a seedling from overwatering, I feel it is easier to kill a seedling from underwatering as everyone on forums always goes on about how not to overwater. I know I was making this mistake when I first started growing and was letting my plants dry out too much in general, never killed any plants but certainly lead to stunted growth. It may be easier for you to purchase some ready made coco - BioLeaf, Freedom Farms and Gold Line all seem pretty decent. Goldline has no perlite in it, you could add a bit if you wanted to but not needed.
  14. What is up with the clawing on the one plant? Have you gone over 4ml/L during veg?
  15. I did some defol last night. Hard to see with the pics, I was in a hurry so did not try take the best pics possible. The autos look much happier this morning, especially the Gelato, not droopy anymore. Before: After:
  16. I'd say give her a few more weeks, if she is more sativa based then perhaps harvest closer to end of April. If heavy indica then early to mid april. She looks quite sativa like though, so I think mid to end April will be a good rough time to harvest her.
  17. Do you have links to those studies? Would love to have a read and try understand the best way to go about it. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
  18. But then what is classified as just enough? Each plant will consumes nutes differently and use different ratios of nutes, some may use more N and Ca than others. Give too little, plant won't flourish as well as it possibly could have. Typically when feeding nutes continuously , they will build up with time. We generally feed plants far more than they need, it's easier to monitor the amount of nutes plants use when doing hydro - nutes are suspended in the water. I believe they do not use much nutes at all compared to what we give them or what the feeding chart states in the bottle. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
  19. Haha, the life long debate as to whether you should flush cannabis or not. Recently study showed that flushing makes little to no difference, if anything thr data points towards a tastier and smoother smoke from bud which has not had a flush. But differences were small. I have not noticed any difference in terms of smoothness or taste between a flush or no flush. I have noticed a far bigger difference depending on how well the plants were trimmed and how well they were cured. Bud which dried too quickly, even after being out into a jar with boveda to add humidity and left for weeks remained a harsh smoke. Leafy bud is often a harsher smoke too. 20. I agree 100% with Totemic. Flush, darkness and products such as ripen I feel are a waste of time and money. You're welcome to try it yourself and make that decision yourself though, but many others have already been there and done that. Learnt thr hard way after much trial and error. We provide this advice in hopes that it might save you some time, effort and money. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
  21. I've noticed the same. Pistils disappear into the bud then go brown, wait a bit longer and then harvest. But I always check trichomes. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
  22. I'd leave the leaves until they really need to be removed. How long has it been in flower for? Bud doesn't look very big, remember it shrinks in size a lot once dry. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
  23. This becomes more difficult and there is no way to guarantee that its actually mature and ready for harvest, so a thumb suck at best. You need a loupe or microscope to be precise and know for sure. The buds will form, then fatten and pistils become small, then a few weeks and ready for harvest. 24. I germinate in paper towel then once it has a tail I put it into coco and ensure the coco had sufficient water to not dry out too quickly but not to drown the seedling. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
