Welcome! It is getting pretty hot and the heat is likely going to remains for a few more months. Only way to really cool things down and keep them cool is with an aircon. I was hoping to get away with out one myself, however the room I have my tents in just retains heat like crazy and this is without the heatwaves. So I will be running an AC for my grow. How big is your tent and how big is the room you're growing in? As for humidity, between 40 and 50 RH is really not that bad. With all the rain my humidity has been just under the 70% mark which is quite high but I seldom struggle with RH being too low - the AC may change that though. Plants should naturally increase the RH as they transpire, you could set your extraction fan to be on a timer (turn on for say 5 minutes every 45 minutes as an example) and not extracting all the time - that will help get the RH to spike a little and not just push all the humidity out the tent, may not make a big difference though.

🎅 Ho Ho Ho - Give It A Grow (Giveaway)
PsyCLown replied to PsyCLown's topic in General Competitions
Ok, that should be all for now. If I someone drops out or there are still left over I'll post here and let everyone know. Will pm everyone soon to get details and arrange shipping. :D Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk -
I'm pretty sure it'll still be fine. It seems quite stable and nothing has precipitated out of the solution from what I can see and my solution is quite strong compared to what hortimix recommend. The powder should keep for years. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk

Hey all, Not really a competition, but I have some Hortimix nutes which I am no longer using and happy to give them away to anyone in need of some nutes. From what I recall I made the mixture stronger (more than 1 packet of nutes into 5L). I am in the JHB area, so if you are interested in the nute drop me a PM and you are welcome to come and collect them. Around half of the 5L nutes left. I did state how many grams of the powder nutes I added to the 5L, but would be best to do your ratios based on the EC of the solution.

It does look really good, however I cannot take credit for that. Not my plant, not my grown... Give me a few weeks and I should be producing similar plants though

@Slartibarfast you do not have to use that metal wire thingy. You could wrap the rope ratchet around the rope and then connect one end to the one side of the heatsink and the other end to the other side of the heatsink. Otherwise use 2 of those metal wire things to connect between 2 sides of the heatsink and then just connect the rope ratchets to that... if that makes sense? That will help give you some extra headroom and give you more stability with hanging the light.

Ahh I see, I misunderstood you there. haha Yea, no other legal option unfortunately. We will have to wait and see how it unfolds unfortunately.

Small grows of 1sqm or less, it's a bit difficult as I feel it becomes harder to justify the cost of the additional equipment and running costs. Also in such a small tent, the space is important. You do not want to place a portable AC or dehumidifier inside as that will take away from your precious space. So best would be to then run them in the same room as the tent, however this becomes less efficient as you are then cooling and dehumidifying the entire room as opposed to just the small tent. When one runs such equipment inside the tent, you do not have the fans running all the time. You have them on a timer so that the cool air does not just get blown out the tent.

Welcome! I agree with @SkunkPharm in the sense that genetics are extremely important. US genetics over the european ones for sure as far as I am concerned. Also you do kinda get what you pay for - R70 seed vs R300 seed is like: VS The first one is also not actually a R70 seed, I believe it costs a bit more. The 2nd one is actually around R400 to R500 per seed. Plants are the same age and in the same tent, under the same lights, getting the same nutes etc. etc.
-
Well, are your plants in veg or flower? How old are they? Also 35cm above canopy should be fine but doesn't sound right that it's the highest you can hang the light - perhaps send a picture for us to see. How tall is your tent and your plants?
-
I am not in Durban, currently no grow going... However temperature and humiditiy, without an AC and/or dehumidifier you will never be able to achieve and maintain RH and/or temp below the ambient RH and temp. Simple as that. If the room you are growing in is say 30C and 70% RH, the lowest you will be able to get it inside your tent would be 30C and 70% RH. I am not aware of anything which will make a significant difference and be able to maintain that unfortunately.

How to store your bud for a year? Jars with Boveda packs is what I use to store my bud. I have smoked some bud after a year in storage and its still good. Otherwise there are those bags as well, forgot the name but @Aeradix stock them as does Hydroponic.co.za

Multi-compartment/2-in-1/combo/perpetual grow tents
PsyCLown replied to stinky's topic in Indoor Growing
I haven't purchased one of those tents. I have owned Secret Jardin tents, Mammoth tent and plan on purchasing a Bud Box tent... Oh, I also had a cheapy chinese tent which was used for drying. Vivosun wouldn't be on my list of tents to own to be honest. I'd rather spend a bit more and buy a different brand of tent. -
Multi-compartment/2-in-1/combo/perpetual grow tents
PsyCLown replied to stinky's topic in Indoor Growing
So my thing with those tents is that I do not feel it suits my needs properly. I feel the way the space is divided is a bit of a waste. It does not allow for me to do a perpetual grow, the veg area is more of a seedling area and cannabis seedlings do not stay small for very long. I'd rather have a dedicated veg tent and keep the seedlings as well as vegging plants inside there and then have a separate tent for flowering. Having one of those tents, if I started plants in the smaller area, I'd likely have to move them to the larger area and veg them there for a while longer before I could flip to flower. Therefore I feel it is a waste and ruins the appeal to having a split tent. If the smaller section could allow for one to veg plants until they were large enough to go into the flower section and had enough space to be able to fill the flower secton from the veg section - then sure. It would in essence be like having 2 separate tents, in a single tent. However... they are once again separate. So double the lights, double the extraction (unless you use a Y-connector I guess) and so forth. End of the day it comes down to a single larger tent which is split vs two separate tents. Much of a muchness, just the two separate tents offer more flexibility. However the single larger is likely going to be cheaper... but I have yet to find a split tent where the veg and flower area are the same size or large enough to justify using it for a perpetual. -
🎅 Ho Ho Ho - Give It A Grow (Giveaway)
PsyCLown replied to PsyCLown's topic in General Competitions
I tried in the oven too, however the end product was not very appealing and I feel that it lost some potency due to this process... unless I fucked it up or the oven I used was very inaccurate in terms of temps (a big possibility). The dab turned quite dark, potency is not what I am use to in terms of dab either and consistency is very running for some reason. I also use the Newport gas, great stuff and not expensive. Around R30 a can normally. If you use the BHO for edibles, I do not feel it is as much of an issue then compared to dabbing / vaporising. I'd rather consume a little bit of butane orally than inhale it. Ideally no butane at all. Would be curious to find out how much butane is left in your product, if any. So if you do ever send it in for testing, please do share the results -

PsyCLown replied to PsyCLown's topic in General Competitions
Butane is a cheap and easy way to extract, but dirty and without the proper equipment good luck getting all the butane out - despite the low boiling point. Vac chamber and preferably a heating pad is required to purge the butane properly. One can try with hot water baths and such, although based on my experience this still leaves a tainted product. Easiest route I feel would be a rosin press, it's solvent-less and easy to use. Just the initial cost is high and yields may not be at the same level as BHO - depending on what BHO extraction equipment one has. You can also turn trim into rosin, just need to turn it into bubble hash before pressing it. I personally feel if one is wiling to work out a bit of money to make extracts, rosin is the better way to go. Actually much cheaper than a full, proper BHO extraction and purging setup. -
Hey all! 'Tis the season to be merry and jolly and I suppose to give to others as well. I also feel that if anyone wants to grow a CBD plant, they should be able to. I have some CBD Charlottes Angel feminised seeds which I am happy to give away to a few members who are keen to grow out a CBD plant. This plant supposedly has THC under 1% and CBD upto 16% but I have seen lab tests where the CBD ends up over 20% actually. So basically you are not going to get much of a high from this plant, but you should be getting quite a bit of CBD. I grew it out and can confirm that smoking or dabbing it, not much of a high at all but certainly does have a calming effect. I will cover the cost of shipping. This will work on a first come first serve basis. Each pack will contain 3 seeds. I am more than happy for everyone on this forum to share with each other - be it the seeds you received or a cutting once you have started to grow the plant out. Ultimately I will be limited by the amount I am willing to spend on shipping as it does add up rather quickly. If you are interested, reply to this thread stating why you would like to grow out this CBD plant and then we can arrange the shipping - I will drop you a PM to get the shipping details. I may wait until all seeds have been claimed before I ship them out - this will make it easier for me as I can then do a single trip and ship them all at once. Once everything has been claimed, I will reply to this thread notifying everyone that the giveaway has come to an end. Keep safe and enjoy the festive season!

Well I know that both@CreX and@Ill_Evan use to run HID and have since moved over to Quantum Boards with the Samsung LM301B diodes. Perhaps they can shed some light on how their grow has been affected and whether they've noticed any difference in terms of bud density. I feel bud density is more strain related. Also@Budwizer will be able to give some feedback once he has harvested his plants - will be nice as he has both in the same tent so just needs to compare same strains on the left to the ones on the right. But even if bud density was better with HID, how much better and does it justify the extra heat and additional power consumption over led? Especially considering we're growing for ourselves, while some of us may aim for cream of the crop bud, boutique bud which would sell for a mini fortune in a retail store its not the end of the world if what we end up with is slightly off from what we were hoping for - is it? I'd much rather worry about the strains and seeds I'm buying, as I feel that'll make a far bigger difference. Pheno hunt for the right phenos amongst those strains. Welcome to the forum! I am sure you will enjoy your stay here Chow

Yeah, you can purchase a 2nd 120W quantum board later on and add that to your tent. This will offer additional flexibility as well. It is actually quite common for people to purchase multiple smaller Quantum Boards as opposed to a single larger one. For example, @Ill_Evan has 3x 240W Quantum Boards as opposed to a single fixture of 720W. I personally prefer it this way as well, it offers more flexibility if you ever need to change your setup or if you want to adjust the height for a few plants only, you can lower a single light. This is exactly what Evan has done if you go look at his grow diary and the pics he has posted of his tent and plants. You will see some of his lights are at different heights due to him running multiple strains and the plants grew to different heights. I also run multiple smaller Quantum Boards and majority of growers out there do the same. Very seldom do you find a 480W or larger Quantum Board light being used by someone.
-
Well, once again it depends on how many plants you plan on growing. I feel the 240W QB is a waste for 1 autoflower. The autoflower wont ever get big enough to fill that 1 x 1 tent of yours. In terms of which QB is a good one to go for, well, really up to you. A lot of them are quite similar but there are differences for sure. Common differences would be the actual QB board itself, there are quite a few Quantum Boards out there which do not use the typical QB288 board, quite a few are starting to use less than 288 diodes on their boards - so less maximum output and less power handling. These quantum boards also come with more of an aluminium plate as opposed to a proper heatsink with fins and they are generally plain aluminium silver, not anodized. While these Quantum Boards will work, I personally would prefer to go for the more traditional quantum board with the qb288 boards as you are getting more diodes from the searching I have done, pricing is about the same give or take a couple hundred. A lot of the Quantum Boards which come with the QB288 boards also seem to have a better heatsink, they have fins on them (once again, not all heatsinks are the same, some have longer or larger fins than others) and the heatsinks are often anodized, which is more of a look thing. I feel it looks neater and cleaner. Then other considerations would be the accessories which come with the Quantum Board, I have noticed not all of them come with the same accessories. I have only seen one seller actually provide a power meter with their light, also not all of them offer a dimmer etc. The Quantum board you linked to comes with a power meter and they're the only seller I have seen who actually provide a power meter with their lights. However depending on how you run your lights, it may not even be needed really. If you plan on dimming your lights, then it will make a massive difference as you can actually tell how much power you are dimming the lights to. Then depending on how competent you are with DIY, some of the Quantum Boards come assembled, some require you to connect cables and some may require you to fully assemble it yourself. While this is not difficult, it is something to consider as not everyone will be comfortable to assemble it themselves or would prefer the convenience of having it fully assembled. In terms of warranty, not something I would be too worried about. Majority of the Quantum Boards come with Meanwell LED drivers which should have a 5 year warranty on them and most provide a warranty on the LED board itself, but the likelihood of anything going wrong is slim. Not impossible, but not a common occurrence.

@Slartibarfast you could even run both lights in that tent and fit 4x 20L pots inside there. Or if you want to get rid of your current light, it may be better to get a 240W light instead then. However if you really only grow 1 plant at a time and it is an auto, it wont fill that tent so you can get away with a single 120W Quantum Board. That light of yours is certainly not 600w, despite what the marketing might state. If you measure the draw from the wall, I would guess it would be around 100 - 150w at most. The Samsung LM301B diodes would be more efficient as well though. So lets say your current Besva "600w" light is actually only drawing 120W from the wall, the Quantum Board would have a higher output despite both lights drawing 120W and this is due to the diodes. To further assist, I guess we need to know: Do you plan on always only grow 1 plant or would you like to grow more plants? Will you considering growing photoperiods? A single photoperiod can be vegged to fill the entire tent space if you only want a single plant in there

Interesting, just goes to show how everyone is different and how these substances affect us differently. Weed gets me in a very different zone to where I need to be when I want to lift weights.
