This one is supposedly 1000x not sure how much of a difference it actually makes compared to the 1600x version.

Looks like pests to me, as @420SA said thrips or mites... That would be my guess too. I'd spray them with pyrol and monitor. Perhaps even do 2nd spray a week later. Make sure to get under the leaves as well.

So currently no fan actively blowing over the QB's? Have you managed to take temperature readings for interest sake? I'd imagine them to get quite hot without any cooling, especially if they're being run at 120W. I also prefer more air circulation in the tent. Last grow I dropped the ball a bit with air circulation though. I wonder if there isn't perhaps a cheap Lux meter one could purchase and use that to compare against PAR figures - the thought behind this is that each phone would have a different light sensor and I suspect that is where the variance comes in? If one were to use the same phone (or model) or in this case the same lux meter, you could see what lux = say 1000 mmol and since they are all the same the variance shouldn't be as significant as it has been with different phones / tablets? Or were the reading not consistent with the same phone / tablet even?

What Equipment/tools do I need (outdoor)?
PsyCLown replied to StonerZN's topic in Starting Your Own Grow
Your buckets are a whole new ball game, quite different when compared to 20L plastic pots too. Keen to see how it goes with your next grow in the buckets. Moving the buckets though, quite different compared to pots. haha -
I use a USB microscope, just a cheapy one but it gets the job done and for me it's far easier than trying to use a loupe. The below picture was taken with this microscope.

Nice article, should help others out in terms of getting an idea on how to set everything up. Single QB's work quite well, I have been running mine as such although want to move over to multiple dual QB setup as it will be easier to manage I feel an still offer the benefits of good airflow etc. @Prom I see you run no heatsink, although you have an oscillating fan above which blows directly over them to cool them down, correct? I still personally prefer a heatsink, however having a fan running over them is actually more effective than a passive heatsink. The cooler you can keep the lights the longer their life expectancy will be - they will degrade less over the same period of time when compared to lights at much higher temperatures.

@felix2000 I feel there are better pots out there. They're messy to work with and will lead to your medium drying out very quickly. It's plastic so breathable only through the big holes. It can also make watering them a bit trickier. If you use them and they work for you, nothing wrong with that. Personal preference plays a role for sure. Normal plastic pots and fabric pots are what I prefer to use. -
@Wulf I have the same PH pen and it works well! The cheaper PH pens do not work as well I find, they need to be calibrated very often and lose their accuracy and require calibration again very quickly. I would also suggest you get some PH calibration solution and storage solution at the same time. This combo has everything you need: https://www.futurama.co.za/hm-digital-ph80-meter-solution-combo/ The storage solution will help prolong the life of the probe on the PH pen and the calibration solution will ensure you can calibrate the PH pen.

Eish, curious and keen to see how it plays out and what the outcome will be. Those who are and have been making use of their services might be in a bit of a pickle now though.

Mr @JeffVader... I think we know one another? I'd also say put something around it to ensure no critters can get to it.

This forum is a great place to find growers who are close to you and to make new friends. For logistics, it makes sense to ensure everyone part of your group is relatively close by. Obviously trust needs to be built. The clubs have the different regions, so perhaps join there and see which other forum members are not that far from you and get in contact. Keep in mind that not every forum member can be trusted unfortunately and this is done so at your own risk.

I assume these are autos? You can do a bit of defoliation where its quite dense to open up for more light to penetrate and reach the bud sites and to help increase airflow. Don't go overboard though. You can likely get away without doing any defoliation as well though.

I have waited for around a week for seeds to pop. So give them some time. I personally prefer using 20L pots, the extra space is great so they can be used again later on for photoperiods indoors. You can always fill the bag half way with 10L of soil if you really do not want to give your autos more than 10L of soil. When I grew some autos I used 20L and they grew nicely and big. I'll likely use 20L again when I grow the last of the auto seeds I have. Regarding PH up and PH down, different people have different opinions. I personally have used PH up and PH down with soil and would recommend you do so if you want to ensure your PH is on point. I know some people do not bother adjusting PH when growing in soil. I have gone as far as using salt based nutrients and adjusting PH with PH down and even have used fertigation with soil and my plants were very happy, grew lovely and the earthworms in the soil (Organics Matter) seemed happy and survived just fine. As for the microbes, well, I do not know of anyone who has actually done any tests themselves or has equipment to do tests to see how much of a difference it makes to them or how much of a difference they make - especially if you do not plan on reusing the soil. That is the other thing, some people like to reuse their medium (be it coco or soil) and others prefer not to - for various reasons. It can be a mission to use it again as it becomes compact and needs to be fluffed out again and can contain extra nutrients and if there have been any issues - pests, mold etc. it can carry through to your next grow. BioBizz is not bad, it is easy to use as well. GHE tri part is also great and very easy to use. Autos for a beginner, they have their benefits but there are cons as well. The main one being that if you mess up and stunt the plant, your yield can end up being affected in quite a significant way.

Looking good, when do you plan on flipping to flower?

I agree 100%, makes it much more affordable. As a group you grow out all seeds, find the best pheno and then share it within the group. Gotta have people you trust in the group though and ground rules need to be laid down. EDIT: Best if everyone in the group contributes, nobody likes a leech.

So Coco for cannabis have a nice calculator on their site: https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/grow-light-calculator/ Below is the size of your tent and what they recommend in terms of usable PPF: Then below is your Quantum Board, provided it has Samsung LM301B diodes and you are running it at 240W: The umol/w figure I got from MiGro from back when he tested it - keep in mind the environment was simulating a tent. Also I doubt you would be running it at the full 240w. Regardless, there is a bit of a shortfall compared to the recommended PPF. 2x 240w QB's will be perfect can have them dimmed a bit then too. Although majority of people do not want to spend the money to spec out their grow area with lights - you can still get good results, I'd say put your plants as close together as possible and as directly under the light as possible and results should be good. I managed to fit 6x 20L pots inside a 1.2 x 0.6 tent - it was a tight fit. So your 1 x 1 tent should be quite spacious in comparison with just 4 plants inside.

Deluxe Sugarcane is awesome, keen to see how the two phenos turn out

The stretch is not a bad thing on an auto, happens often when they start flowering and can lead to a larger plant.

As @Ill_Evan said, the accessories are needed - it's really just the scrog net which is extra which you may not use. The Mars Hydro tent will have fixed positions for the extraction & cables. If you will actually use the scrog net, it's worth the extra money. If you are in a hurry, it's worth it then. However since you can wait around for Black Friday, may not be a bad idea to wait and see if any special deals pop up.
-
@Q9550 how soon do you want to get this tent? Mars Hydro have a 1.2 x 0.6 on Hydroponics for R2400... so a little bit cheaper but no stock currently but I believe Hydroponic are expecting stock sometime soon(ish). But if you need it ASAP, then I doubt you'd be unhappy with the Secret Jardin.

Magic Garden tents from GT Hydro are not good. Have had a few friends who purchased those tents, the zips do not last and light leaks all over the material... including the zip. I have used Secret Jardin tents before, they are decent. I had that exact same Secret Jardin tent and it's good quality and comes with some extras such as a scrog net and you can choose where to position your fans for exhaust and they provide a passive air intake filter which you can choose the location of as well. Also the piece for the electrical cables, you also get to choose where on the tent it goes - they basically supply some nice fitment accessories and a device for you to easily cut out the perfect sized hole for the attachments. Very nice and clever system - works very well. You get a patch it as well, if you ever want to close up one of the holes and these accessories can be purchased separately. Stock is currently an issue in SA, I want to get a Bud Box tent but no stock yet. Mammoth is good too. I have heard decent things about the Mars Hydro tents as well. So depending on what you are able to find and pricing, go with the cheapest perhaps. Although I would not recommend the Magic Garden tent due to the quality - if it were to be used for drying your bud then it should be fine although I'd personally prefer to get a different tent for growing. My 2c

That's exactly it. The Samsung diodes found on most quantum boards are far more efficient than the older tech diodes which are found on blurple and some other led lights. So price per watt when comparing old led tech to new led tech may seem good, however its not Watts which grow plants. Its also not lumens which grow plants. Its the usable ppfd / par and when comparing the usable ppfd of an older led light to a newer led light it becomes clear which is the winner and which offers the best value for money. Especially after you've been running the light for a few years. A 120w blurple light may only have output equal to an 80w quantum board light for example (just an example, not actual figures). That extra 40w adds up in terms of heat and electricity usage over 3 years or so. MiGro actually did a comparison of a few lights based off this. The less efficient lights were cheaper to buy but long term they quickly fell down the list and the higher efficiency lights became the cheaper lights. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
