When is it no longer organic?
PsyCLown replied to PsyCLown's topic in Organic Growing - Growing in soil
Considering the food we eat, I don't think it makes much of a difference. Although I guess we smoke bud and don't eat it, but doubt it. Tobacco industry don't flush, do they? Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk -
When is it no longer organic?
PsyCLown replied to PsyCLown's topic in Organic Growing - Growing in soil
Hahaha, geez ok. This thread has taken more of a turn than I expected. Bringing lights into the equation. The way I see it is that I would classify lighting more as "natural" or "unnatural" as opposed to organic or inorganic. @Ill_Evan I agree that organic would refer to more the nutrients and such, thinking about it now most mediums are natural (soil, coco, water) although maybe not organic per say. Such as the coco could have been grown using synthetic nutes. @Dank which brands? Curious to find out about this. In my mind I feel organic vs "non-organic" (not inorganic), is more about the nutrients which one gives their plants. However as mentioned originally, often there will be synthetic nutes used at some point in the grow, even if its just for supplementation. People stating organic bud is tastier, well, at what point does it get affected? When changing nutes? What if you go half / half with BioBizz and Greenhouse Powder Feeds for example? Correct me if I am wrong, but reading on this forum and watching YouTube grow videos of people overseas. There seems to be a "hype" of sorts about "organic" cannabis. People using soil specifically and then top feeding with amendments which are slow release or using BioBizz nutes or trying to male super soils so you do not need to add anything else. Then you ask yourself, what is the actual benefit? Why is it done like this and the answer I have always found is that organic bud "tastes better". Although at the same time I was thinking about these Grow off competitions - I love them, think its a great idea and I have enjoyed participating in it. The one category is for the best organic grow. How far could one push it before your grow is no longer classified as organic? I feel for a grow to be fully organic, it's not going to be easy to achieve. Not indoors at least. Perhaps more so outdoors. -

One can have microbes and use synthetic nutes. I feel that when people think of organic, they think of soil - however you can use soil and have nothing else organic in your grow. On the flip side, you can do hydro or grow with coco / perlite and use organic nutes and feed with teas and have tons of microbes - it may not be the most ideal environment due to the lack of organic matter to break down however it is possible and there are people who do this. @Ssomeguy you feel an indoor grow is not organic, I assume considering the environment? -
Welcome. If that is a picture of you, I'd remove it. If its not, then it's very random? What do you need help with?

What is structured water?

@MrB what did you end up doing? I like to use the pistil colour and calyx size as a guideline and then when I feel it is starting to near harvest time I start to check the trichomes and I harvest according to trichome colours - check trichomes on various colas at different points on he bud (not just the top, or just the bottom).

I think it really depends on the auto plant itself though, as long as it does not start flowering too soon and has vigorous growth and is not stressed by the toppings then it should be fine. I had 2x Daquari Lime seeds planted at the same time and the one started flowering at week 3 and the other at week 5 or so. Those extra 2 weeks of veg make a HUGE difference. @AcidAlice what plant is that?
-
Very nice! What size pot is that?
-
I wonder what is required in order for this to happen and whether it will just happen and how do you find out whether you will be one who has their criminal record expunged?
-
Ok nice, so with a plant height of 70cm and a 20L pot brings you to around 1m tall. I do not imagine your spacetote to be that tall and have enough distance from the light to the plant to prevent light burn and good spread. Although with lots of LST (Low Stress Training) you can try and keep the plant short, perhaps try get a scrog net of sorts inside there and spread the plant out instead. Will be tricky with an auto due to the limited veg time, may not work too well actually. Other LST methods can be used though, tie down the branches to keep it short.

Thanks, I must keep that in mind when getting an aircon for my plants. Is it the 9000 BTU or 12000 BTU Defy which you have?
-
Yeah, soil is something which does not ship well. Too expensive.
-
I had to Google what a Spacetote was, I am not familiar with these small grows. I struggle with the space I have and can squeeze 6 plants into my flowering tent. I can see your light, although what is the box above it with the pipes and all? Also what is the max height your plant will be able to reach inside there and are you growing in soil in a pot? EDIT: Is it not easier to just purchase an 80cm x 80cm tent? You can get them for under R1k for a decent quality one, won't have height issues and it's built for the purpose. In terms of space consumed in a room, height wise it will be a little more but overall not much more floorspace being consumed.

Very nice! Should get some good teas from there, but will it be enough? If you are able to get some Organics Matter soil, it may be worth adding that to the mix. I feel it's a very good soil, I have even found some earthworms in my Organics Matter soil. I prefer it over the Freedom Farms soil personally, it's cheaper too.

Does your AC start cooling as soon as it receives power? If my portable AC is on and cooling and the power goes off, when it turns back on the AC is still in the "off" mode and needs me to turn it back on in order to start cooling again. Wondering how you bypassed this if yours originally worked the same as mine? I have an STC-3008 up for sale in the classifieds, brand new. Basically the same as the STC-1000 but it has 2x temp probes so allows you to have both a heater and AC connected to a single unit at the same time basically and you can set each one separately. Very useful units indeed!

I stumbled upon the Haifa stuff previously, I liked their MPK but none of their veg nutes really stood out. Will be curious to get your feedback on it. I am trying out the Hortimix now for veg, so will see how it goes.

I think part A has 41g of magnesium per kg. How does that compare against the Flora series? You suspect you've been ending up with a magnesium deficiency? Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk

I am not listening to their guide, it's super weak if done that way. I measure according to my desired EC, if I had to follow their guide I fear my plants will start showing terrible deficincies. I have actually mixed my mpk solution stronger so I can use less concentrate to reach my desired EC. I mixed 500g into 6L of water. Then I add until I reach the EC I want. I also don't run nitrogen throughout flower. I like to cut it earlier on and then use just P and K and then flush. How has your veg been when using hortimix according to their guide? Also their dosage does not give you the EC they suggest on thr table. To get to an EC of 1.0 I probably use around 40ml of A and 40ml of B into I think it was 7 or 8L of water. I had to got pretty heavy. Next time I'd like to try mix the concentrates stronger, would need to find the saturation point for the nutes. Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk

Very nice... No perlite in that Just Cannabis soil? Curious to see the outcome, pitty they are not all clones though as I feel that may give a more accurate representation of how the soils compare. Regardless, still very cool and I want to see the results! haha

Welcome and enjoy your stay! What sort of micro grow do you have a mind? A small 2.4m x 2.4m tent? There is tons of great info on this forum, read the various threads and ask if you are still unsure or need some customized advice.

Why not a portable aircon? That will drop your RH and allow you to control the temp better with these hot African summers. In terms of what is better, I am not too sure but if you want a dedicated dehumidifier get one which allows you to at least set a specific RH. I suspect the power consumption will be the same for a dehumidifier vs aircon, or at best not much of a difference.

Interesting, I know they said somewhere that part A and B shouldn't be mixed together without being diluted otherwise it will fall out of suspension - as you experienced in your res and then it sits in the bottom. I've mixed high doses of mpk with calmag (not their part B) without noticing issues. I'll be playing around with thr Hortimix a bit more going forward. I assume it's the type of P, K and Calcium which is present in the mix in which case it could happen with other nutes too using the same "type" of nutrient. That GTH is looking superb! Cannot wait to see the size on her just before flower time.
-
That is the problem, isn't it? Seems as if there is soo much goodness out there, how do you grow them all?
-
One more thing, the longer you allow the plant to veg for, the larger it will get but the larger the pots need to be otherwise the plant may end up root bound. Autoflowers don't need more than 20L pots, you could probably even get away with 15L pots.
