  1. yeah hahah well we are discussing on how to compare this correctly, because you mentioned I should consider the time it took him to root and all. I guess in all situations before comparing anything that differs so much and has endless variabilities you should standardize things or find common ground between the subjects atleast. otherwise you be making poor comparisons.
  2. yeah everyone pops seeds different, and clones may differ in size and all that. I would say, to ease things out and make it fair, look at both sides and what would denominate the main factor, which would be getting a plant started. So in a sense, if you didn't do "that one thing" there would be no chance of there being a plant. In my opinion that would be, in the case of growing from seed, taking the seed out its package and placing it in the medium/ shot glass/ paper towel/ whatever it may be, the important part is you are getting the seed going. that is Day 1 with seed. to me. day one for clones should be the day you slip that freshly cut wound into the medium it's gona root in/ bubble cloner/ coco pellet/ rockwool/ whatever. because this would also be "getting a plant started" and I feel this should be looked at the same as putting the seed in the medium...
  3. wow fok those are nice results bud!! not gona argue with that you can totally disregard what I am saying, because I am agreeing that you get good results, but remember "the exception proves the rule" and there is probably a good reason why we are all not using vinegar and why you got asked why you using the stuff. the air bubble hahah I try not even shaking my pen when I clean it and stuff just to save the tech inside that little bit longer. my pen came with a book with instructions and a box of stuff to maintain it, it cleary states don't shake the pen too vigorously or hit the sides of the pen against anything., though people say the one they have is indestructable, that again is an exception and it proves the rule, you hear WAY more stories bout them going to shit for no reason. lay them down without use for too long, fucked. swing them around, fucked. drop them once, fucked... they are quite sensetive little toys and the people who make them clearly warn a person to look after the thing as if it's a baby. I keep mine upright in a jar at all times, so the storage liquid don't run out. gets new storage liquid weekly. literally 2 drops, easy. gets cleaned and calibrated once a month or so. done.
  4. yeah, I get what you mean, but if you wana get technical, he didn't come in with an unrooted clone, he put an already rooted plant into a bigger pot to start off with. I take it as he got a clone from somewhere, be it his friend, his other tent, his aunty or whatever but the taking of the cut and the rooting of the clone wasn't shown as part of this grow. this is actually a valid topic of discussion hahah, if you get a clone from somewhere and go straight to a bigger pot and you are out giving reports on how long to veg a plant, do you tell people the included cutting and rooting time or do you just give the duration of time since you got it? cause in this case, and many others, I have seen the clones quite big already and can be concidered a month old plant already, so if you veg them 2 months to fill a space you should be saying it took you 3 months? so mr. coolJ is actually at 8/9 weeks veg and not 6 weeks? add on - if we pop a seed and it's at 1 month we don't disregard that 1st few weeks as part of the plants life, but we do with clones? or should we start counting Day 1 of Week 1 only when we can start feeding it and call it a plant already?
  5. duuude fuck yeah that is awesome, you're doing a heck of a job promoting youself here as I am also looking into buying some mantis pots for myself!!! they so sexy man! what will be the product lines of focus for you? more equipment than nutes and stuff? I see you got your know how on those nutes man, plants are exploding with growth! all the best brother and may your business thrive just like those beauties that you got thriving there!!! add on - looking at the mantis pots that freedom farms sell, I can't find the ones with the big cannabis leaf on. I am looking online so maybe just not spotting them. Do they have the ones you're using?
  6. oh yeah the "hybrid hydro way" will speed things up a bit yeah. good on ya mate, excited to see the rest!!
  7. uh oh.. was the tip burn before repot? I would say hold back on the calmag man. your medium should really have enough. give microbes just once a week. rest of the time. clean water. it's veg and you're in organic soil that claims it's fully loaded, first signs of def you should run into is N and your plant will turn slightly yellow, this should only happen well after a month of giving just water. only then you can start adding stuff, I would say some Biobizz fish and grow, alternate between the two 1ml/L. but you gona have to flip those ladies soon, sooo.... just plain water for you, once flipped you can do 1ml/L of biobizz bloom, wait about a month before adding any N or any CaMg
  8. Vinegar can actually be used to kill some unwanted weeds in the garden, it's suggested to spray them, because getting vinegar on the soil will even be bad luck for the plants wanting to grow there in the future. so you're kinda using a herbicide to feed your plants unless you're a real sciency guy and wana know a bunch about compound analysis and chemical interactions and put in the time to study the products you giving your plant, don't refer too much to alternatives. stick to using products that are made for plants, even then you'll have to study your products carefully so you don't mix the wrong stuff and what not. this will teach you the dicipline and importance of knowing what's going in your plants. only then I would say to allow yourself to dabble with alternatives and try to save a few rands here and there. first you gotta pay the school fees man.
  9. just a heads up, there's been a few reports about that soil being a bit too hot, so keep your eyes open for burnt/curled leaf tips. keep feeding dosages low and increase slowly over time. although for the first month in that soil you should be good just giving clean water, no feed.
  10. hahahah it's a nice coincident, hope he keeps milking it, looks like he's one of their ambassadors or something I got a whole bunch of those stands myself, love em, but they don't make my plants look like that I was thinking maybe the pots will help!
  11. yeah got the man kit out with storage solution, 2 x calibration solution and ph up and down. hopefully he will put in the effort to look after his antiques
  12. @mantis the guy certainly knows something we don't!! I got a question, maybe its been asked before and maybe it's just so obvious that I'll be making a fool of myself, but hey I take notion in the whole "there's no such thing as a wrong question" thing do you have anything to do with the mantis brand? I like those pots!
  13. awesome! now when watering in future, just pinch the material pot between thumb and index finger, give a slight tug as to pick it up, but what you're actually doing is just checking the weight. top soil should be dry about 12hrs after giving anything, plants leaves will still be perky when medium is light and close to completely dry, you could even wait till you see a little bit of droopyness before you water again and this would be healthier on your roots than keeping them wet. although, idealy you wana water right before they go droopy also just checking, did you perhaps add some myco life to assist the roots? not talking bout root stimulators or phosphates or "root juice" or any tipe of feed for that matter, that would do more harm than anything right now. just some microbial life to help break down the soil and ease the transition for the already compromised roots into their new environment. I always keep mycoroot on hand, or well in the fridge... I also keep some eco-T around, or anything with Trichoderma species in it. Explogrow and Biodyne also good options.
  14. interesting story here, I have a friend who dusted off some probes his grandad had in his garage, must've been the shit back in the day, cause it had this leather covered box with the name written in gold, some german or swedish name we couldn't read. shit looked expensive even for today. each pen still takes one single AA battery, this guy pops it in some calibration solution and I shit you not 100% accuracy, took a minute to get there as the tech was a bit delayed, but hey, it worked!!! I almost burst out in laughter but then realised it's not even funny, how the hell....? even when it turned on when putting the battery in, blew me away! this thing must have been in storage over 10 years, maybe muuuuch longer, the plastic even looks like it's going brittle, the probe was onviously drier than a you know what.... and the rule of thumb with the probes are "if it dries, it dies" this thing was on point with both calibration solutions.. luck certainly is a factor here, cause in a production line up where millions of the same thing gets made repetitively, you're bound to have that one in each 1000 or so that will be put together better than the others. it's the same with a defective slip up, sometimes you buy something and it only lasts a month, because of a slip in the production line, but sometimes the slip up may result in a better end product.
  15. woooaah good golly, sooo since May 13 till today I count as 49 days, it took you a month and 10 days to fill up a 1.2 x 1.2 tent with 5 plants in 15L pots? I get that clones take about 2/3 weeks shorter veg time than growing from seed, but this is impressive! plants are looking damn good too!
  16. another cool thing bout Blue labs, they switch off by themself. when they read and the value still changes it will stay on, but if it was at a constant value for longer than 1min or so it shuts itself off. I also got those drops, they work fine and will help you for sure when I got oily/sugary substance such as molasses in the water I don't like to use my blue labs pen, don't wana risk any film build up on the glass probe, even though I keep it extra clean with fresh tap water and fresh storage solution after every 3 uses I just don't wana risk any harm to the pen, make it last a lifetime
  17. yeah. I think you got the best one made yet brother hahahah batista, if you wana get another yelllw one I would say research and find atleast 10 or so guys who have used the yellow one and get their opinion. I am certain you'll find that a healthy percentage of the people who have them have thrown one away, it's simple, look at the price and tell me those will last forever and I will ask you why we all don't have a cheapy. answer will come back, because they cheap and don't last.
  18. as of yet I do not have a tank, when I expect rain I put buckets down all around the house, old schoooool style! so I don't let it stand, collect and 24hrs later should be used and rest goes to under roof garden. got corrigated zinc sheets on the roof, clean gutters all around, but still interested in the ph and ppm. got a few buckets collected, will do the tests tonight
  19. did you mean in the screen of the thing? so the enclosed motherboard area got water in? the potassium chloride the trooper is refering to is the probe liquid, it needs to be kept wet at all times. those yellow cheapies don't last long, heard only about 6 months if looked after it properly and calibrated each month. after the 6th month it wont calibrate correctly anymore. your situation seems like it might have been dropped in water or you submersed more than just the tip and water got into the body of the pen? my blue labs equipment is all submersable and waterproof, if you buying a new one I would like to recommend to look at the blue labs one. if you thinking bout sticking to growing any kinda plants I would suggest getting a pen that will last you forever and it stays accurate aslong as you calibrate it.
  20. uh oh, I been giving rain water a couple times now all willy nilly, haven't checked its ph at all. it wouldn't hurt the probes? I read that I should only be reading tap water, no filtered water or RO water, can't remember if it said anything bout rain, but I been using it only on tap water as I know that's safe. it may even be that the rainwater has a high ppm too then flushing with it may also cause more harm?
  21. oh yeah, ahead of budget is always a good feeling! nice one man! what size is it? 15cm looks like you gona have to make sure the end of that duct is completely out of that room, I assume it's a 10m length? have it go out the room and around a bend, remember the co2 will travel upwards so ducting pushing co2 always perform better when going up and never down, especially if it's such a long way to go like you got there and every bend will decrease airflow so keep all these small things in mind. if the end of your duct is close to the end of the room you might have a problem with that air just coming back to your room. with tent guys we always gotta exhaust to another room or preferebly outside, because if that air goes in the room your tent is in it will just suck in the same air again and again and essentially same with your situation. but yeah, you heading the right direction brother Next on your shopping list is probably a tent? maybe some more material pots also and then gona build a 10k worth LED setup for 4K from local aluminium and digikey imports.
  22. ECOSIA, they plant trees for every few thousand searches if they really do or not I don't know, but what I also like is the suggestions is not like google shoving useless negative info down my throat and pouring stress down on me, instead it shows me crazy accomplishments in the nature department all over the world. you can also keep track of the amount of trees planted by your searches, it's my default browser everywhere.
  23. 7m is deeep woah, I would say you getting co2 build up there, to take the guessing out the game you can ask around you for someone with a co2 reader... I would say to know that conditions are optimal your best bet would be to get a tent with all the right equipment, that will certainly improve your conditions without doing any testing and playing around. Start off by letting your medium dry out between waterings. lifting the pot to feel if it needs water should be fine for you. we got 40L pots tucked away under a massive cannopy and scrognet behind other plants, and we still gotta lift our pots every now and then to test when to water. specially now with the rain and extra high RH and pots taking forever to dry out, for you to lift your pot should be no trouble at all. I agree with batista, look at the earlier pics of the white stones, even the ones that aren't covered in dirt are less white now. perhaps do a runoff test by testing what you put in, water till first runoff and read that. I would say ph and ppm, whatever those stones might be treated with could carry undesirable compounds. do you know the ph of the water you're giving? I know they say not to worry bout ph in organic grows, but my tap water sits pretty at 9.8ph and this has caused me problems in the past. now the light, to get the most out of it you gona have to provide reflective walls and because it's such a little light you gona have to bring those reflective walls right up to the side of the plants so you really get some penetration from the sides and bottom. preferebly from all sides. this brings me back to getting a tent.
