Looks good, and following. Keen to see how this grow turns out. I kindly got gifted a White Widow clone, so busy with that in my tent. And then to liven things up, decided to run 2 autos in old soil (but beefed up a bit) outside and see what comes of it. Will also be keeping an eye for deficiencies. Good luck!

New Auto Grow (first attempt from seed to harvest)
Live Canna replied to Tee_Aitch_See's topic in Grow Diaries
Nice grow so far. Also thinking of adding more light to my grow. Will start with one QB75 and eventually get to 3. Should be a nice spread and wattage for my tent. Re the dry dry soil. What was said earlier is correct, if its super dry then it struggles to retain and all the water runs through. So what I like to do then, is water (say if you usually water 3 litres) 0.5 litres at a time, every 5-10 min till all 3l are done. That way you are slowly saturating the soil and you will come right. I have found with a lot of mediums if you just chuck it in, you almost see the soil 'avoid' the water like that special hydrophobic material or whatever it is you get. Good luck with the rest, looking forward to seeing more. From the plant you already harvested, how dense were the nugs? Looked like a lot of bud. My grow is also nearing the end. Not tooo much bud, but dense as lead. -
So I agree with what most of you are saying here, but I think the common thread is that everyone is different. I have a mate who is notoriously bad on cannabis. It just affects him the wrong way. And recently I convinced him to try some edibles, but being the big guy he is I opted to give him a 10mg dose over 2.5 or 5...and well it still didn't sit well with him. Eish! So it can often also just be down to the person. But I also feel like smoking it would be better in terms of the effects coming on. And for them to apply the same concept as edibles (just shorter). i.e. have a few puffs, give it 10-30min and then see how you feel and then you can always do more. I feel like that is more reliable than edibles for the first time where it can take hours based on numerous factors.

Compost Teas and how often I can use them
Live Canna replied to Live Canna's topic in Organic Growing - Growing in soil
Thank you! Thats some solid advice. I am still new to these little microbial life guys, but what you say makes a lot of sense -
Hey hey all, So as some of you may know I have had my Bubbleberry and Bubba Kush in my DIY tent for some time. Sitting in 20l fabric pots with Freedom Farm soils and Biobizz (Grow and Bloom) nutes. The Bubba Kush got the boot to outside as it had some bananas, so I wasn't going to take the risk. The Bubbleberry is in week 7 of flower and started with the yellowing of leaves (yellow with brown/dark curling tips) already. I figured it was needing something and was not done yet, but considering the PH going in is as per FFs suggestion as well as nute schedule. I then decided to buy a bucket and an air pump and brew a tea. I used 2 cups of compost, 1 cup of worm castings, couple ml of bloom and 2 table spoons of molasses to 10litres of water. I fed the bubbleberry this and she seemed to like it as finally the buds are fattening a bit. They were only as thick as my index finger, but some are starting to swell now. My main question here being, can I feed the same tea recipe (fresh of course) again? I assume as I am really only feeding the microbes I can't really overdo it? I also took the left over mulch from my tea and top dressed the plant with it. Some recent pics attached for reference. Thanks!!

Might be best to pull some fresh air from outside then if the room has such a high humidity? What is your set-up?

They are looking good and nice and healthy! Your biggest one there you could almost start with LST. I prefer to have atleast 4-5 nodes out before I top or perform LST.

Thanks for the explanation. So I ordered in May which was (to me) "post hard lockdown"...so maybe they resolved their issues? I don't know...not good business regardless based on that feedback, but I had a really good experience.

Strawberry Banana Cheese - First Grow (indoor)
Live Canna replied to Orcanic's topic in Grow Diaries
No worries, happy to help with what I have learnt in my short time. I find there is so little out there sometimes (especially in saffa land) and to find your specific grow medium + nutes, + XYZ and to compare is then difficult. The Lemon juice works really well and Baking Soda for PH up works well too. (used it the other day for the first time). -
What have I missed here? I order from them back in May (albeit it from their local seed site buyseeds.co.za) and even spoke on Whatsapp to someone. They helped me by supplying a variety of pics of options. I ended up ordering some others, and then even got a bunch of seeds for free. Order came promptly in less than 48 hours, service was great and attentive. No issues whatsoever. Has it gone to shite since? Why? I was looking forward to ordering again.

Nice grow so far! They are looking healthy So I have been using the green bag from Freedom Farms too with BioBizz nutes. Using Grow and Bloom. I started feeding around week 3 or when they have at least 4-5 nodes and that worked for me. FF says to water between 5.5 and 6.0 as the soil is buffered against drops but not rises in PH. So maybe get a PH metre and keep an eye on that. I have been watering at around 5.6-5.8 (Using a BlueLabs PH Pen) recently (cheap soil PH metre said my medium was at 7.0..but its not that accurate with the difficult to read lines, so I reckon it is lower as the plants are happy) and no complaints from my ladies. I started with Bloom in the same week I flipped them to 12/12. When they were in veg, I found the 1ml of Grow per 1 litre of water got me almost to the right PH. And then I add around 1ml of lemon juice (per 1 litre of water) which drops it another 1.0 or so. I am using store bought RO water. Cheap enough if you refill at the water shops. Other than that it's been relatively easy growing. So I am sure yours will be too. Good luck! Will be following -
I'm also quite keen to try Fastbuds actually. Been looking for some better auto genetics, and every seems to speak highly of Fastbuds. Re the OP and topic, just put it down to learning, I had issues with my first (last minute) outdoor attempts. My next grow has already gone a bit better

Thanks bud, really appreciate it. Yeah the colours are crazy. Will definitely be trying her again at some point to see if I can get some better bud growth. So if you look at the 2 diary links I posted for the photos you will get the idea. But I followed 2 slightly different approaches. 1. The Bubba Kush. >> https://growdiaries.com/diaries/61752-bubba-kush-totemic-grow-journal-by-live-canna I topped her twice. I basically topped and then pulled down branches in hope the lower node would catch up, which it did. Then the lower node, on that (lower) node also grew up, whilsts I kept pulling down the uppermost node. So thats where I got the odd shape, but she is relatively flat. 2. The Bubbleberry. >> https://growdiaries.com/diaries/61754-bubbleberry-totemic-genetics-grow-journal-by-live-canna This lady I topped, and then pulled the first two growths (once grown a bit) flat as if I was basically mainlining her, but without the sticks on the actual branches. So purely by LST. Then all the lower nodes on those 2 main branches starting shooting up and I topped those again creating more branches and every time pulling down. Then at some point I basically let go, and let them rise up to create the shape she is now. You can see this all quite clearly in the grow diary. Let me know if that makes sense. Happy to help with what I have learnt so far in my first proper grow. I must say though, I feel like what I did to the Bubbleberry worked a lot better. But this is all plant and strain dependent also. The bubbleberry is IMO definitely more on the Sativa side, while the Bubba Kush is more indica dominent. -
DIY Grow tent (and first indoor grow to come)
Live Canna replied to Live Canna's topic in Starting Your Own Grow
Thanks bud! Agreed, it is definitely getting warmer! Yeah, I am looking at getting a 75W V2 from Grow Opz as soon as the funds allow, and that will also help, as my light is not the best. But I am going to run with it for now. Also now that it is getting warmer, I will be able to remove the heater soon and then I will have more space without worrying about burning the plants (literally). -
Cool Cool, I have sent them a message now
-
Are they still able to build the 75W? I see it is sold out on their site, but I would be keen on getting one in the near future.

Oh and here are the 3 diaries should you want to see the full progress https://growdiaries.com/diaries/61752-bubba-kush-totemic-grow-journal-by-live-canna https://growdiaries.com/diaries/63067-original-orange-bud-auto-bulk-seed-bank-grow-journal-by-live-canna https://growdiaries.com/diaries/61754-bubbleberry-totemic-genetics-grow-journal-by-live-canna -
DIY Grow tent (and first indoor grow to come)

Tall nicely trained one is the Bubbleberry. Shorter stockier is the Bubba Kush, and the the flowering small one is the Dark Devil. + pic of all of them in the grow area. -
DIY Grow tent (and first indoor grow to come)
Live Canna replied to Live Canna's topic in Starting Your Own Grow
Hey hey, its going thanks My auto got destroyed by the cat in its early days, so I had to plant another. This threw my timing off for the 2 photos I was running at the same time. Fast forward to today and the Auto is almost done but definitely struggled with the cold and lack of light between 3 plants >> not doing that again . BUT she has some beautiful looking bud, even though there is not much there. (I will attach pics). Then my Bubba Kush and Bubbleberry are rocketing!! The Bubbleberry is one of the most perfectly trained plants I have done and they are both primed and ready to flower. I have switched to 12/12 as of a week ago. (will attach some pics too). So they are going to be monsters. I could basically just fill the tent with the Bubbleberry, but I am going to try and keep both in. Else I might boot the Bubba Kush to the outside. Loadshedding has of course messed me around. And then this week, I changed a setting on one of my switches, and this, with the power coming back on, started the heater cycle (but it was in the dark period). So a 'red element' heater going on and off every 15mins or so has no doubt hurt them for the few hours it was going. But I hope it has no lasting effect. Time will tell. Thanks man! Some solid tips there. Issue I have been facing is that the garage is just too cold..eish. All the air is cold but the heater has been working. Looking forward to summer though! -
Here you go, this is where I got it from.

So I use Lemon a fair amount. I am growing as 'Organically' as possible and thus prefer what is around the house. I have found that 1ml of Lemon Juice in 1000ml of water generally lowers the ph by 1.0 point. I use BioBozz nutrients. So when in the veg cycle and only using 1ml per 1litre of Bio Grow I need to add lemon juice. When in Bloom, and using 1ml of Grow and 1-3ml of Bloom I seldom add Lemon juice. But it depends on your Ph you are wanting to get. More recently I have been watering at a ph of 5.6 in line with FF suggestions (albeit it on the low end). I have not had to raise the PH yet, but I also heard that the Bicarb/Baking Soda method works well.

So I am using Freedom Farms normal organic soil, not the premium. I also noticed when I got my soil PH metre and also tested run off with my PH pen that my soil is sitting around 7.0 to 7.1. I have been watering around 5.8 - 6.2. But as you rightly say, Freedom Farms recommend 5.5 - 6.0 and this is because they have it buffered or something against lower PH, but not high. So I think if you water below 6.0 you will get into the right range. 7.0 is not horrible, but a few 0.1s lower would be better. I am also using BioBizz. Plants look nice and healthy on my end, no deficiencies. I use Grow and Bloom. With grow alone I still need to drop the PH and I just use Lemon Juice for that, nice and organic in a sense Here is the excerpt. Ideal watering pH for Freedom Farms Craft Soils Ideal pH 5.5 – 6.0 Pure coconut coir has a pH between 5.8 – 6.8. A substrate/soil pH of between 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal for plant nutrient uptake under both organic and inorganic fertiliser regimes. Freedom Farms Coco coir is buffered and charged with natural amendments. The high Calcium content of our amendments maintains the pH in the 6.5-6.8 range and will prevent a decrease in pH (substrate acidification) resulting from fertiliser application or waterings at a low pH. The soil pH is therefore buffered against decreasing pH. On the other hand, an incremental increase in pH resulting from tap water (pH 7-8.5) use can cause the soil pH to increase above the optimal range for nutrient uptake. The soil pH is therefore not buffered against increasing pH caused by using un-pH’d tap water. Watering with a pH of 5.5-6.0 will ensure the pH of the soil remains in the optimal range of 5.5-6.5.
