SSA’s First Indoor Grow using Unidentified Bag Seed
Sacred Seeds replied to Sacred Seeds's topic in Grow Diaries
On the upside! I have a nice big house with a very large en-suite bathroom and I don't have to deal with the extreme heat in a wendy house. This time I want to invest a little more in decent lighting and concentrate heavy on climate control.:thumbups At least I have a permanent job that will help me maintain my hobby financially. -
Now that you call Divine Intervention! What's the chance that you find a mature plant at your new residence? I agree with @CK that you did the right thing! Good luck looking after your new found "resident".

Hey Guys! I moved to a new area in December and started a new job in January. I've been hectic busy. When I wanted to eventually log in to my 420sa account, I couldn't remember my password. I also had issues with my email account, a broken phone & my pc crashed. Lol! That wasn't the worse! All my plants died because my new residence's water is much harder. Anyway I've learned a shit load and I'm getting ready to start a new grow. -

I am so pissed right now! Not for the first time I forget to type in notepad. I have lost 30 minutes typing out an update! I now no longer have time to re-do it as I have to leave! Don't you hate it when that happens? Anyway all my plants are sick due to environmental issues and I needed some advice. I will try and post it later when I get back. -
I tend to agree @GLO I think a small part of the problem is Anonomity. I personally don't want some of my cannabis smoking friends to know that I grow my own, even though we use Avatars. So I wouldn't suggest the website to all my friends. Maybe admin can consider targeting a more global audience.

@TK IMO the 12/12 rule ONLY applies to indoor growing. What I have found out this year is that if your plants has been vegetating indoors for more than 18 hours and you move them outside even while there is 14 hours of light to only 10 hours of darkness, it will still flower. It usually takes 4 - 6 weeks before the plant will start re-vegetating. That's why I moved all my indoor plants outdoors under a fully shaded area on 1 December. On 22 December i moved all my plants into partial sunlight. They've been getting some heat stress but I'm sure they will recover. The most important point is that my plants wont re-vegetate because Summer solstice started on 22 Dec. That means the days will only get shorter until the winter solstice.

A very Merry CannaXmas to all 420SA members!

@CerealKilla Sorry to hear about the loss! We all learn by our mistakes! IMO If you dropped that seeds in water for more than 24hrs and watered it shortly after placing the seed in the CCPS then there is a high chance that seedling's roots drowned. I recommend dropping the seed in water until it sinks, remove it asap. Weigh a jiffy before placing it in water. Plant the pre-soaked seed in the pre-soaked jiffy and weigh it again. Thereafter check the weight of the jiffy every day until it reaches about 5 grams more than the "dry weight" that you measured before. That would be the point that you water the jiffy again until the roots just about shows through the jiffy. You will have to check it every couple of hours because root growth is quite rapid at this point. Once the roots have lightly penetrated the jiffy, then you can plant it into a Styrofoam cup (with holes for drainage) filled with CCPS. That is the process that I used successfully. you can repeat the process of weighing the Styrofoam cup and watering only when the plant is close to dry. Hope this helps! I must say Alice is looking good. She recovered well! :thumbups You should get ready to re-pot her into CCPS.

My best recommendation would be to transfer your plant into CCPS mix which wont need any nutrients for the next 3 months! I've stopped giving all my plants nutrients since I bought it 2 months ago and I have been watering straight from the tap with no issues. I have 3 different mediums that I've been testing for a bit more than 2 months. Medium 1 - Straight Coco Compact Potting Soil Medium 2 - 50% CCPS / 50% JGS mix Medium 3 - 50% CCPS / 50% Coco Perlite I have also moved all my plants under a shaded roof that gets no direct sunlight on 1 December and they are all still doing well. I will be transferring them to direct sunlight on 22 December which is the day of the summer solstice.

Just re-pot the JGS mix into bigger pots which has been filled up with CCPS at the bottom and around the sides. I wouldn't advise adding any form of nutrients to the CCPS mix because its proven to have all the necessary nutrients. Hold onto the CMNP until your plants show that its lacking Calcium and Magnesium. Chances are that you wont need it at all,

Definitely looks like a female! :thumbups

I was planning to use the fridge for flowering but now that I have moved all my plants outdoor its not necessary for this current grow. That gives me enough time to complete the fridge and iron out all problems before my next grow.
-
Yes it looks like nitrogen deficiency. My biggest concern is the JGS mix not doing its job. @CerealKilla has had endless issues with his JGS mix and I too have amended my mix so that it could be efficient. It could be that his previous batches were fine but IMO there is no current evidence that his current soil mix is any good.

UPDATE - 1 December - Due to not being able to control the heat indoors, I moved all my plants outdoors under a roof with permanent shade. Its been 8 days outside acclimatizing to the excessive ambient heat and strong wind. They have had no direct sunlight for 8 days and they are doing well even though some of the leaf tips were slightly curled up due to heat stress. I am still watering all my plants with plain tap water. All new growth is looking healthy so far. I will be leaving my plants in this shady spot until the summer solstice which is 22 December. I will be transferring all my plants out in the direct sunlight on this date. -
Well everything went well until I found out that my fan is producing too much heat inside the fridge. So I have changed the design slightly so that the fan is mounted in the chamber where the carbon scrubber will be. In this way the heat does not affect my plants. Lately I haven't had a lot of time due to external factors but I haven't given up on my project yet.

Welcome @Billybong!!!

@CK This should not be happening with a JGS mix! I suggest you go back to Jamie and ask why the soil is lacking certain nutrients. Just my

I think a video clip is a brilliant idea! Please consider it @Reaf! The Death Squad needs an audience:-bow

Plant Of The Month November 2015-Closed
Sacred Seeds replied to 420SA's topic in Monthly Competitions
Meet “The Orphan” who was the late bloomer and turned out to be a lady. I transferred her from coco/perlite on 7 October 2015 into 15L of Coco Compact Potting Soil to test their claims that I don’t have to feed any nutrients a few months. I've only been watering from the tap with no problems. So far so good! -
@syk0t1k Check out this link http://www.420sa.co.za/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=644.0;attach=3193;image I bought Coco Compact Potting Soil from www.hydroponic.co.za It already has nutrients added so all you have to do is add normal tap water. My orphan plant was transferred nearly a month ago into it and there is no indication that my plant is lacking ANY nutrients. It's most probably my healthiest of all my plants.

Fucken cool design! Thanks Skollie!

I hear you but don't quite comprehend! I will already be using one shelf to move the plants from the top down as it grows. I'm using the large 150w CFL bulb which is quite heavy. I'm not going to build a reflector (yet) as the space is already very limited and it could potentially increase the heat in my cab. My plan is to mount the CFL in front of the fan, so all the heat that accumulates will be extracted immediately. Instead of a reflector I will consider lining the "roof" above the light with Mylar to help reflect the light. I think it could still work if I mounted the CFL from the top (and not from the side) which would have more even weight distribution.

I have a pair of those yoyo cords but I actually want it to be fixed. This will allow me to put the plants on the highest rack closest to the light and drop the plants using the rack as it grows taller.

SSA’s First Indoor Grow using Unidentified Bag Seed
Sacred Seeds replied to Sacred Seeds's topic in Grow Diaries
Sorry that I haven’t updated my grow for the last month. I basically kept on watering the 2 small plants in the Styrofoam cups every 2 – 3 days with the usual nutrients. . The 5 in the Autopot are also doing well still. 1 October 2015 - Transferred the bigger plant in the Styrofoam cup to Outdoors to a 15L Soil pot with JGS mix. I gave that one to a friend to look after in his garden as space was starting to become a problem. I continued to water the Orphan in the last Styrofoam cup every 2 days with the usual nutrients. 6 October 2015 - I used “The Orphan” as my guinea pig (The late bloomer that turned out to be a lady) for the CCPS. I transferred her into 15L of Coco Compact Potting Soil to test their claims that I don’t have to feed any nutrients a few months. I watered her with plain tap water and the drainage was very good. Hopefully she will settle well into her new home. 8 October 2015 - I added some Coco Compact Potting Soil at the bottom of the Autopot to feed the 5 ladies. The 3 females that I had growing in a medium size pot were also transferred into in to a wider deeper pot which is now in an amended JGS mix. This pot I also watered using plain tap water. The “Autopot 5” and the “Orphan” are now the only hydro babes. 17 October 2015 - Up until now all plants are doing very well and have not been watered since transferring to JGS amended soil. The Hydro Babes are flourishing too. The fridge flowering cabinet will hopefully be completed in the next few days. -
So eventually I'm at a hurdle! Take note that I just flipped the picture upside down to mimic where everything will fit. So nothing is mounted. The little brown box is only there to temporary support the E40 light fitting. The fridge wall is a very thin plastic. Mounting the fan and light due to its weight might tear the inside of the fridge wall panel. I cut one of the fridge shelves to the bottom width of the fan to act as support. I will then put a moerse lot of silicone at the back of the fan to seal it and hold it in place. I still have to wedge it with a small piece of wood so that the black part at the bottom of the fan fits snugly to the fridge shelf. I think that should hold the fan in place. 1. How do guys suggest to mount the light fitting? As its going to be quite heavy with the large CFL Bulb hanging horizontally. 2. Do you think the inlet pipe should stay vertical or should I turn it to the direction of the plants which is horizontal?
