Not sure if this will work but an idea that can also help is by placing excess water in pot tray. The soil and fabric will slowly absorb the water and thus creating more moisture. Not sure if that would create a situation that can cause mold/algae forming underneath your pots though.

@Roasty do you add milk to your rice water to isolate lactobacillus? Lactic acid bacteria thrive and feed on the ammonia released in the decomposition normally associated with foul odors. So if you need to decompose or ferment wastes less foul odors, lactic acid bacteria is the specific bacteria to use. Can this be used to safely compost dog waste?

@Onion this was such a great read. I like how confident you are in exactly what you need to combat all these environmental challenges! As a beginner organic farmer(very loosely titled but got to claim what you want), I really enjoyed how you explained your rationale behind your methods. I’m forced to watch many YouTube videos often just being able obtain a grain of info per video as many don’t explain why and rather ‘I use this’. Will definitely be anticipating each update. The in-house slurricane was one of the best strains I’ve smoked, me and bud smoke a nice one blade joint and got stuck at a robot during load shedding. There was a traffic officer directing the 4 way robot and it was so amazed how he controlled the traffic he had white gloves and all the strain was so good that even being stuck in traffic was a fun time

Hi all, can you please help with suggestions with an air pump for 20-50l buckets. I’m not sure what to look at to determine what makes a good pump. I plan on using a airstone and just a simple preparation. I’ve read about the vortex systems but for now, I’ll probably upgrade in future to such a system but for now would like to just try making tea itself. forgive me if this has already been posted somewhere, had a quick scan and didn’t see it.

Wow, we an international forum haha. I’m half Polish with my father being Polish, however, 3 of my mother’s sisters married Germans. One of them stays in Cape Town but the other two stay in Germany, I believe in Hamburg and Frankfurt.

I agree, the access to cannabis in South Africa will probably mean we won’t have this Spice enter our market, but you never know. I watched that documentary on Netflix called the business of drugs that also highlighted how dangerous this can be. But the one thing you could identify it was that it was sprayed on a herb(not cannabis). This is quite worrying in Germany as you won’t be able to easily identify it

@PsyCLown thanks so much, the seeds arrived today! Will start growing them in Feb so excited to grow them but have a few plants on a 12 hour light schedule at the moment. In this time ima prepare my soil to be perfect for these girls. C3 has suspended their services upon advice from their legal team and has instituted a declaratory order to have the High Court clarify whether this is a legal means of business. Apparently this will happen within the first half of 2021. I honestly, cant see how it can be illegal as these companies are basically allowing many who cant grow and grow on their behalf for either technical skills, space, effort, etc. anyway, regardless how you feel about it, it will be exciting to follow what comes of this as it will be the first case in South Africa that deals with commercialisation of cannabis.

You can get a 1kg for about R50 - you’ll probably need a container as well to extend the length that it lasts which I’ve seen you can get a polystyrene cooler for R20. The dry ice can last about 4 months but I would say that it wouldn’t last 4 months in the tent environment due to excess heat. Should at least last for flowering. I might try this out over the summer and will definitely make a post evaluating whether it can be used for the long term.

How are these lights - 600w under 1k as well? They have different sizes from 50w - 200w. I own an Apollo 8(think it’s 280w true wattage) and use a 1.2x1.2 tent. Was thinking of getting two of these as a supplement light to get the most of the full space of the tent. What you guys think?

My temperatures are also getting a bit too high at moment(28-30 Cape Town) during the day when lights are on. I’m considering getting dry ice and placing in front of my fan as a quick fix on hot days. Apparently it does work and can also increase the co2 in your tent. Obviously I’d also need to invest in a AC at some point but it may be something to look into as well. I’m a newbie to growing so take my advice with a pinch of salt and maybe do further research should you consider it.

@Prom those buds look amazing! I’m looking into extraction more and more especially with CBD for purposes of edibles and tinctures. I know this may be a difficult question to answer but your opinion will suffice. If I were do an extraction method that would extracts the CBD/THC directly into a carrier oil(decarb, slow heating in carrier oil) , am I wasting the majority of potency of buds. I understand that with a more controlled extraction such as alcohol/butane extraction I will have more control in the dosages I would take and able to extract a higher yield, but in terms of yield wise, is there a substantial difference in percentage of extraction between the DIY method I referred to and alcohol/butane extraction? @PsyCLown please feel free to add your opinion as well. thanks guys

@Onion I’m a bit late to the conversation but I agree that there is some ‘BAD’ parts of the bill. As an example if I have a child, I’m not allowed to consume THC otherwise I’ll go to jail for 15 years exhaling out my window can get me into trouble as well. Safe to say those ill intended anti-cannabis neighbours will call the police for every J you light in your yard. maybe the way they meant to draft it was that to say you should have exercise caution when consuming cannabis with children in your household which parents already do with things such as cigarettes, alcohol, electrical equipment, etc. These are terrible provisions and I submitted my opinion(through public opinion on the govs website) regarding these and a few other provisions.

@Green Leaf Organics Thank you so much for sharing this. This is so well written and constructed and great to give an enthusiast like myself a basic understanding of organic living soil. Is 3 hours sufficient time for tap water to dechlorinate? In your article you refer to a ‘few hours’, can it be as little as 3. I’ve aimed for 24 hours but it’s has been loosely applied and wanted to know what’s your minimum recommendation. Also to make the super soil mix (250l) can this be stored for 6 months or so? As long as I continuously look after it by mixing it around every week or so and a water with AACT and molasses? I Really found this piece of great help. Would love to learn more as soon as I start understanding more.

@JeffVaderAre you using the vermipure with every water? You should only use it once a month as it is a vertilizer activator or even 5 weeks apart. I don’t think the soil is the issue, I think you have been misusing that tea. By constantly activating the soil you might end up in a result where your soil is too hot or that you PH is not balanced. The soil doesn’t need much other than a bit of this at different stages of the grow. If you still wish to make use of the soil contact Jamie and ask him for the Dirty Hands inc. feeding guide, it helped me a lot. my apologies if you already know this but main aspect of living soil is that the soil feeds the plants and not the water and by enriching your soil with every water it may have ended too hot

What an amazing gesture!!! Ive been amazed by this strain since seeing it, especially it’s potential to make concentrates such as oils and edibles. If there’s still seeds available I would love to get the opportunity to grow it, I’ll definitely share it amongst Cape Townians through cuttings or remainder of the seeds(should I get perfect germination).
